County to host 27 mass vaccination clinics between January and May. More than 36,000 residents were inoculated at the Civic/Convention Center which represents more than half of the vaccinated county residents. Prolonged winter weather combined with ongoing electric outages prompted the City of New Braunfels to establish a cold weather Warming Center at the Civic/Convention Center for those without power, stranded motorists, and anyone in need of electricity. Fischer Park Nature Camps and Preschool Discovery Programs both hit record enrollments in 2021 with more than 600 students engaging in outdoor learning. Das Rec and the Landa Park Aquatic Complex provided over 1,490 swim lessons to the community 182 kids participated in the youth basketball league and 158 kids participated in the youth volleyball league at Das Rec

• Das Rec held the first maintenance week to include
pre-pandemic levels and Kinder Care and other services re-opened to normal operations. February 2021 Winter Storm River City Athletics (RCA) took over management of the Landa Park Dolphins Swim Team. RCA also manages the Surge Swim Team at Das Rec. The Dolphins program was back in full swing with more than 230 swimmers taking part in the summer league and 74 swimmers made the cut for the State Swim Meet in College Station. July 4th fireworks returned to Landa Park, bigger than ever thanks to sponsorships from HEB, ReMax, and the Hill family.

The City of New Braunfels was selected as a finalist for the 2021 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.
Brody Dillard, Golf Course Superintendent, was named South Texas Golf Course Superintendent’s Association Superintendent of the Year.
The “Recipes for the Soul” cookbook earned an Arts and Heritage Award from the Texas Recreation and Parks Society in March 2021 and the Dry Comal Trail earned the Planning Excellence Award.
David Guerrero and Brandon Chiuminetta were recipients of the 2021 Core Value Awards from the City of New Braunfels.
