editor’s note Hello Myanmoreans, Well here we are, the week before Thingyan Water Festival. I’ve heard so much about this celebration, I must say it’s both overwhelming and exciting at the same time. There are many places and options to celebrate this Water Festival. He have included in this week’s pamphlet a list of venues, in case you still have not decided. We also have included places that will be opened during the festival. For those who like me, will be experiencing this for the first time, we have included a Survivor’s Guide and a list of emergency numbers - just in case. Better be prepared, we say. THINGYAN FESTIVAL SURVIVOR’S TIPS: Wear something appropriate. If you’re planning to be out, it’s guaranteed you will get wet. High heels, long flowy outfits that restrict your movements are not recommended. Protect your eyes and ears. The water, especially the high-powered hoses, might be potentially harmful - pair of plastic sunglasses and a towel is recommended to protect your head. Do not drink the water used to spray at you. These are water from the lake – enough said. Do drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated. We said water - not alcohol. Consume alcohol in moderation. NEVER drink and drive. Keep your valuables at home. Only bring what is the most necessary. Your phone and money will get wet so a waterproof bag is recommended. Use your common sense – move away if you see a potentially dangerous situation.

new opening TITU’S INDIAN BANANA LEAF RESTAURANT
WHAT IT IS Titu’s, a South Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant, is now open. Geographically, South India is in a tropical zone. Thus, their food is generally infused in spices, with rice being their staple. Soup and yoghurt-based dish usually form a complete meal. Located just behind Traders Hotel, Titu’s is a simple and non-pretentious family restaurant with chefs flown from Chennai, giving you an authentic and down-to-earth South Indian fare. ATMOSPHERE It’s a dream come true for a man, known to his friends as Titu, who wanted to open a casual but good South Indian restaurant. One suspects it is a ploy by the owners to keep the décor very simple, so that it gives focus to their strength – the food. By all accounts, their tactic works. As you walk in, there is a food counter that shows you the feast of the day. Your Thali (a meal made up of a selection of various dishes) comes with generous portions of dishes served on a banana leaf. Not into rice? No worries, their chefs can whip up fresh chapattis for you. RECOMMENDATION If you’ve never had a fish head curry then let your maiden experience be at Titu’s. If you are familiar with it, you would not be disappointed as it is their Signature dish. The fish meat is tender, especially the flesh around the cheeks. For those with big appetites, the biryani set – spiced yellow rice, chicken curry, raita, pappadum and a big portion of chicken served on a banana leaf, will satiate your hunger. Try eating with your bare hands – some folks swear it enhances the flavour. Still have room? Go for their Kulfi ice-cream – similar to a frozen yoghurt but with a denser consistency. PRICES Prices range from 2,000Ks to 6,000Ks. The Fish Head Curry Signature Dish is at 15,000Ks. Titu’s does not accept credit cards at this present time.
