ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

Danilo Mezzadri is an ACUE Distinguished Teaching Scholar and Professor of Flute at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is also the president and founder of the International Flute Workshop (Italy and England) and the Southern Flute Festival (Mississippi). He serves on the faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Michigan), Festival Mar de Minas (Brazil), Festival de Música Contemporânea Plurisons (Brasil), and Victoria Chamber Music Festival (Canada).

Mezzadri has appeared to great acclaim as a soloist with over forty ensembles, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Pró-Música Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, and Camerata Florianópolis. He has also achieved success in numerous competitions, including the International Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Competition, Michigan State University Honors Concerto Competition, and the Brazilian International Flute Association Competition. He holds the position of principal flute with the Gulf Coast and North Mississippi Symphony Orchestras, and he regularly serves as a guest teacher and soloist throughout the Americas and Europe.

Danilo Mezzadri is the innovator behind the Spider Log interleaved practice system, which provides graphic feedback to aid in the development of repertoire and technical mastery for young musicians. He earned his bachelor's degree at the Escola de Música e Belas Artes do Paraná, where he received the First Prize Award in his graduating class. Additionally, he holds a bachelor's degree in public law from the prestigious Universidade Federal do Paraná. He furthered his education at Michigan State University, earning a Master of Music degree in flute performance, a Master of Musicology degree, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance.

Sabine Klein received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in piano performance with University Honors from Carnegie Mellon University where she studied piano with Natasha Snitkovsky and violin with Saul Bitran. She completed her studies with the degrees Master of Fine Arts and Zweite Diplomprüfung in chamber music performance from the University for the Arts Mozarteum Salzburg, writing her thesis on color-hearing synesthesia. Her teachers included Erika Frieser, Aloys Kontarsky, and members of the Hagen Quartet.

Prior to coming to University of the Pacific as collaborative pianist, Klein was employed by the Norwegian National Opera Oslo as repetiteur, member of the orchestra, and soloist/chamber musician for smaller touring ensembles. While in Norway, she taught at the Steiner School Nordstrand.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES

Klein has appeared as chamber musician and recitalist on WQUED FM Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Concert Society recital series, the Norwegian National Opera’s chamber music series, in various venues across Northern and Eastern Spain as well as in Germany, Austria, Sweden, and the United States. Locally, she has served as pianist for the Townsend Opera Players, Stockton Symphony, Stockton Opera Guild, and Stockton Chorale. Sabine Klein also enjoys playing viola and joined the Folsom Lake Symphony in 2020. Kontarsky and members of the Hagen Quartet.

Prizewinning flutist Brittany Trotter leads a diverse career as an educator, soloist, and collaborator. She joined the faculty of University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music in the fall of 2021. Trotter previously served on the faculties of Dickinson College, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Duquesne University. She is program chair of the Mid-Atlantic Flute convention, competition coordinator for the National Flute Association (NFA)’s Junior Soloist Competition (also serving on the development committee of the Umoja Flute Institute, NFA’s career and artistic development committee), and publicity chair for the Flute New Music Consortium.

Trotter has been awarded first prize in numerous national and regional competitions including the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition in woodwinds in the states of West Virginia (2017, 2016), Wyoming (2015, 2014), and Mississippi (2009). She has also competed as a semifinalist in the 2017 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Trotter has performed in the flute sections of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, and Colour of Music Festival Orchestra, among others. Equally versed in post-classical contemporary and experimental music as well as electroacoustic music and interdisciplinary works, she has performed and premiered new works with the Pittsburghbased new music ensemble Alia Musica. music.pacific.edu
