Tony Santos’ tip: It’s important to understand that things constantly change and you’ll never really be ready for those changes. Accept the fact that you don’t know all the answers all the time, and even if think you do, be open to other ideas, suggestions and ways of approaching things. – Health Services Administration, Dilworth, Minnesota

I chose MSUM because it had a family feel when I walked through campus. People look like they’re having a lot of fun. – Ryan Siems, Business Administration, Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Create CONNECTIONS Dragons create meaningful connections with each other – peers, friends, faculty and staff, and campus co-workers. Connectedness is achieved through a variety of fun and engaging opportunities that take place in a learning environment that lets you get intimately involved in all aspects of student life. It’s created by a small, personal and invigorating campus that helps you build affinity and develop relationships with people in your major, your organizations, your living environment and your friend circle. As you connect more with the people you surround yourself with, the more vividly will your unique MSUM story emerge.

Kara Brusven’s tip: I love the campus and how friendly everyone is. Everything is laid out nicely and is very accessible. It’s easy to get around the community as well, and Fargo-Moorhead has a nice, small-town vibe. – Commercial Music, Pierre, South Dakota

@msum_stlf

As part of the learning community, it was really cool to meet others with the same passion. My Dragon Mentor organized events, and we collaborated on films together. – Brandon Heim, English and Mass Communications, Aberdeen, South Dakota

Living on campus means you’re minutes away from classes, campus activities and athletic events. The relationships you form and the experiences you share residing on campus will positively impact your college experience and beyond. Join one of 18 Learning Communities to live with others in your major. You take several common courses with your floormates, have an assigned faculty member who provides academic guidance and career mentoring, and live on the floor with a student mentor who provides additional community support. In addition to communities for specific majors, several themed communities are open to any major.

Food is right around the corner, too – breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. Enjoy an assortment of healthy food from garden and deli selections to comfort food and pizza, plus a whole lot more. On your campus visit, make sure to stop by one of our dining locations and enjoy a bite.

Emma Monson’s tip: Make sure to get in line early on Thursdays for MSUM’s famous and delicious chicken tortilla soup. Pair it with a grilled cheese sandwich and you’ll be in heaven. – Undecided, Fargo, North Dakota

Students who live on campus earn higher grade point averages and are more likely to graduate.

What’s not to love about FARGO-MOORHEAD? Nothing, really. Students from small, rural communities love Fargo-Moorhead because it’s safe, easy to get around and has a lot of green space with plentiful local parks. Students from large, metropolitan areas love Fargo-Moorhead for the same reasons. They’re also surprised by the community’s ample opportunities for internships, part-time jobs, recreation and entertainment. They say Fargo-Moorhead has everything a large city does, just on a slightly smaller scale. So, whether you’re a long-time local or a big-city transplant, you’ll find numerous arts, live music, coffee shops, fantastic eateries and unique shopping options to keep you entertained.

Every college student has a unique list of favorite things to do in Fargo-Moorhead, but here are our top choices: ▸ Downtown for chic boutiques, interesting restaurants, historic Fargo Theatre, Sandy’s Donuts and more.

▸ The Trifecta can be reached just a few blocks away – Starbucks, Tutti Frutti and Qdoba. No need to say more.

▸ Buffalo River State Park and MSUM’s adjoining Regional Science Center gets you back to nature.

▸ Escape Rooms (there are four) are liveaction games to test your analytical skills and teamwork.

▸ Coffee hopping at Twenty Below, Young Blood, Red River, Stumbeano’s, Bully Brew, Beans, Red Raven and more.

▸ Teaberry is a quaint deli serving international tea. With fantastic smoothies and a variety of board games, it’s a great place to hang out.

▸ Sports teams at the three local colleges, plus Fargo Force hockey, FM RedHawks baseball and Invaders football.

Andrew Jason’s tip: Recognize the opportunities that are available in the community and take advantage of them. – Editor, Spotlight Media, Mass Communications Alumnus, Blackduck, Minnesota
