These photos were taken last October at a Frederickson Farms car show in North Scituate, Rhode Island. It was the last automotive event in what was probably the worst car show season I have ever witnessed in all of my years attending these venues since I was in my twenties cruisin’ back and forth to car shows and cruise nights in my own muscle cars, show trucks and hot rods
2020 was horrible for automotive enthusiasts but we did have some opportunities to enjoy our classic car and truck hobby and vehicle culture regardless of what the pandemic had in store for us all. This article is titled; Cabin Fever. Normally, that term applies for the winter months that we are locked inside our homes hoping spring arrives soon so we can get back out there and cruise the car show and cruise night scene with all of our friends. Cabin Fever in this case also includes the past eleven months most of us just stayed home and didn’t venture far away and in most cases flat out avoid large gatherings afraid of contracting the virus. That’s a very long time to be cooped up in our homes and not cruisin’ in our coupes, muscle cars, show trucks and hot rods. With a vaccine available now and soon distributed to our region in the coming months we can at least see the light at the end of this long tunnel sometime later this spring and summer months. Let’s keep the faith and hope that soon we will all be leaving this cabin fever mentality behind us and venture out and about with our rides and start showcasing and attending area car shows
and cruise nights without fears and anxieties associated with the Coronavirus. We will overcome this virus and enjoy life once again on the road headed to an area car show or cruise night where we all belong all week and weekend long all cruisin’ season long.

First Impressions of the Returning Legend By ZOE VALENTINA Greetings Motorheads, it’s your favorite leading lady, Zoe Valentina!! It’s been a while since I’ve done some writing around here but recently, I got the opportunity to “Test Drive” a new 2021 Bronco Sport so I decided to share my experiences with those who have been wondering what all the buzz is about. Our test vehicle was generously provided to us by the good folks at Stoneham Ford (www.StonehamFord.com) in Stoneham Massachusetts, with a full tank of gas and the understanding that we would take all the time we needed to show the features and capabilities. The Bronco Sport will probably be the most popular model to the everyday end user as it provides all the necessary amenities in a good looking, affordable package plus a few luxuries as well. At first glance, 16| Motorhead Magazine - February 2021
you can see our “Outer Banks” package stand out with its gloss black wheels, LED headlamps & tail lamps, and unique badging. An optional “Outer Banks” equipment package also adds the Bang and Olafson sound system with 10 speakers and subwoofer, HD Radio, power moonroof, and wireless charging pad. This adds up to quite a bargain compared to the other vehicle options in this sized SUV class. It really is an excellent bang for your “buck”, and trust me, this horse is no slouch. Power for the Bronco Sport is rated at 181hp and is churned up by a peppy 1.5 Liter Eco-Boost engine and transferred through a smooth and precise 8 speed automatic transmission. The interior was quite roomy up front with plenty of head and legroom for my beautiful Mom and was also spacious enough for my rather plump Dad, Motorhead writer Ed Yessaian. The middle row had enough room for the two child seats that my brother and I require and most importantly my parents had enough room in front of us to position themselves away from my brother

who likes to kick the seats in front of him, if he can reach. Around town the Bronco Sport is surprisingly quiet and got a ton of attention almost everywhere we went. It exhibited remarkable handling and braking capabilities and will no doubt have no problems conquering travel in new England winters. Overall, I can honestly say that I highly recommend the new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport if you are in the market for a small four-wheel drive SUV. Til next time- Zoe V rollin’

“MEMORY LANE” “Like It Was Yesterday”

I then knew nothing could ever change her mind. I told her to start by calling a funeral home, and she would probably have to go to many town meetings to be granted such a request for a burial in a cemetery. She said thank you and she would start making calls right away.
Many years back before I became a Funeral director, I worked for my dad, he owned a burial vault company. For those of you who don’t know what a burial vault is, it is a concrete structure that is put in the ground that a casket is then lowered into. Every casket in every cemetery is required to have this, for two reasons. One to protect the casket and second for ground support. Now getting to the story, the phone rang…on the other end of the line was an old ladies voice asking if a car would fit in a burial vault? I first thought it was one of my friend’s playing a joke. This was way before we had caller ID. After I had asked a few question’s I then knew this was for real. I told her a car would not fit into a burial vault and it would not even fit into a septic tank, and I also said that I don’t think a cemetery would even allow such a thing. She replied “oh dear”. My next question with much excitement was what kind of a car do you want to bury? Hoping it was a good one that I could talk her out of, and could buy. She replied it’s my baby… a 1962 Corvair I bought brand new and when I die I want my casket to be placed in the car and buried. Well needless to say, I almost dropped the phone. The thought of putting such a car in the ground never to be seen again is just as bad as having it crushed in a junk yard. I wanted to find out more. I asked her name and she said Rose. I asked the biggest question, why? Why would you ever want to do this? Is the car rotted out and not worth anything? Don’t you have children or a grandchild you would want to leave it 20| Motorhead Magazine - February 2021

Many years later, Rose passed away and my dad was called to lower Rose and her beloved Corvair into the ground at the bottom of the hill at Pocasset Cemetery in Tiverton RI. (Above photo of my dad.) The Corvair was a popular car in the 1960s before it was buried by the rise of the muscle car and the 1965 expose written by Nader, who said it had serious steering and control problems. But to Martin, a talkative and no-nonsense woman who served as a police matron tending to female prisoners at the town jail, the low-slung car with four front headlights was a gem. She was laid to rest next to her husband, with a headstone showing a picture of her and the car.
The widow and mother of three, who died Saturday, drove the flat-looking rear-engine white car around the town of Tiverton, population 14,000, for 36 years. “She just loved the car. She didn’t care what it cost to fix the car. If the car was broken, she wasn’t one to ask you how much. ‘Just fix it,’ “ recalled Tiverton Auto Body owner George Murray. Mourners at her burial at Pocasset Hill Cemetery grinned through their tears as six police officers acting as pallbearers slid the inlaid wood coffin into an opening in the rear of the Corvair, which had been altered to accommodate the casket. The car was then lowered into the ground with a crane. It took up four burial plots. THE SHY STUNTRESS Shy-Anne Boisvert was born and raised in Rhode Island. She is 23 years old and has been stunt riding since July, 2020. Shy originally had a 2015 Yamaha R3 in October of 2018 and traded it in the following May for a 2019 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200. She thought she would be stunt riding on that motorcycle right away but learned it was a little harder than she originally thought. In April of 2020, Shy bought a 2017 Honda Grom from a friend and set it up fully with the best parts she could find. She installed MK Stunts, Brembo and Z&Z parts on her bike. Shy immediately had to take 3 months off from riding after buying the bike so she couldn’t begin riding until July. In a short time, from July until now, she has been to Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York
State to ride. Shy started riding because she saw a group of kids from Connecticut, called the Eastcoastin’ Crew, pulling wheelies on their Harley’s and wanted to be the first girl on the east coast doing what they were doing on their motor-cycles. There could be some out there she said but does not know of any other girl doing what she does on a bike. Shy doesn’t personally know any girls that even ride like she is, doing stunts, and never mind doing them on a Harley. Now that she has been riding, she has met many, many people who share this passion and would do anything to help one another. It is a Continued Next Page

close family once you’re in it and worth every minute. Shy’s family is very supportive and proud
of her. As proud as when she graduated from high school or had children. It makes her happy to see her dad smile the way he does when she rides so she could never give up this passion. Shy currently sold her Grom to have a bigger bike, and she did have an R6 but under some circum-stances beyond her control she is no longer in possession of that bike and she is always looking for another one just like it. She still has her Harley and feels as though she is ready to start stunting with that bike and will be trying to pull stunts over the winter season. Shy also hopes to get in contact with business owners who have ample parking lot space to host events for people attending from all over the coun-try to come and ride. She wants to have that event open to the public. In her experience, 99% of peo-ple love to watch these riding events and especially their children. This is more than a hobby for Shy. It’s a passion and way of life for her. She will be riding until her body no longer allows her to do so.

The weekend of the North East Auto Show was intriguing with new models introduced from all makes to say the least. What really hit home with us was the all new 2015 Camaro Z28 on the showroom floor. Not only did it bring back memories from when it was first introduced in 1967 when the Chevrolet Camaro first
This new version of the original bad boy holds a whopping 7.0 V8 engine (firing off at 505 horsepower and 481 foot pounds of torque) that is pulled forward by a six speed TREMEC TR6060 transmission and a rear wheel drive high performance TORSEN helical limited-slip differential. JASON CHAMPAGNE When I was growing up, I was always around cars, trucks, heavy equipment, anything with a motor. We were always swapping out engines and working on different types of vehicles. The first muscle car I ever saw was my Uncle’s split bumper Camaro. I’ve always loved the rumble of a loud exhaust and doing burnouts puts the biggest smile on my face. The first vehicle I ever bought was a 1963 Chevy Step-side Pickup truck. My Father brought me to see it. It had some rot and rusted areas here and there, the paint was faded and everything else just looked worn out. But it did have a 283 with a 4 speed and straight pipes, which to me was the coolest thing ever, at that time. So I made a deal and took the truck home. has always been a 1970 Chevelle. To me Chevelle’s were the ultimate muscle car-the King of the streets. After seeing the Chevelle in the movie, “Dazed and Confused”, I fell in love with the car they called “Melba Toast”. Many years later, with the help of the team at Conti’s Auto Service & Motorsports, my dream came true. I now have a completely restored 1970 Chevelle of my very own. James Conti performed most of the work and fabrication on my Chevelle, with the help of his brother, John Conti, Jr. and their father, John Conti, Sr. They did a complete “body off frame” restoration. The frame was boxed to provide more support for the new 572 Big Block Chevy “Blueprint” engine and “Rossler” Turbo 400 transmission. James fabricated a complete “Stainless Works” stainless steel 3.5” exhaust system from mandrel bent U-bends and straight pipe. Hours and hours of cu�ng, fi�ng and tig welding made for a nice loud roar you can hear from a mile away, especially when the “Doug’s Headers” electrical cutouts are wide open. The “Moser” 12 bolt GM rear end has an “Eaton” posi-traction unit. Stopping power is provided by “Wilwood” vented disc brakes and 4-piston calipers all around. The super bright “Dapper Lighting” LED headlights allow me to see further than any Halogen bulb could, if I were to drive past sunset. The ride is fast but also smooth with the “UMI Performance” upper and lower tubular control arms in the front and “Currie” rear adjustable upper control arms. “KYB” shocks and “Moog” coil springs also contribute to the smooth ride. A “Dakota Digital” instrument cluster was installed to brighten up the stock look of the dash. The Conti family did everything they could to make my 1970 Chevelle what it is today-the car of my dreams. It’s everything I’ve envisioned and more. Now you can find me cruising the streets with my wife by my side and my kids in the backseat on a nice sunny day.

SEEKONK, Mass. -- Veteran Modified racer Jon McKennedy is planning to make a push for the Tri Track Open Modified Series championship in 2021. The former series champion (2014) took a few years away from fulltime competition, but seems to have found the right combination to make a comeback and chase his second title.

“Driving home, pieces of the car on a trailer were falling off. After started looking over the car, I couldn’t tell which pieces had fallen off the car or off the trailer. While removing the body from the frame because it was no longer needed, I was astonished by the fact that the nuts and bolts did not break (unlike some of the newer vehicles I’ve done).” Upon inspecting the car, it was noticed that the brake system had brake shoes on the outside of the drum, and the brake system was a hydraulic system and not mechanical… surprising to see on a 1920s car. While researching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang through books, magazines, the internet with friends, and of course the movie, Eugene found out that the car was about 17 foot long. “I purchased a model car that was about 5 ½ inches long and scaled from 5 ½ inches to 17 foot to begin building on the Grahm Paige frame.” Beginning with the steering column that was initially on the left side of the car, it was moved to the right. “Problem with this was I had to turn the steering gear box upside-down and all the steering fluid ran out!” A plug was reworked to fit the original hole, and a new hole was made to retain the fluid. “I had to re-machine the connect arm down to a different size to transfer it from left to right.”

For many years, Eugene Weide has been restoring classic cars and entering car shows. “Over the years, I watched the spectators and the children. The children seemed to be more interested in the unusual and older cars, such as the Model T’s, 1920s, and 1930s. I wanted to build a car that would spark the interest of the kids.”…A car built out of wood!

The inside of the car was all wood framing that was rotted, and there was no floor, but the frame itself was good. “The owner of the vehicle came out to meet me and stated the vehicle was a 1928 Grahm Paige and was asking $750. All I was going to use was the frame, wheels, and steering column and offered him $500. He accepted.”
Eugene discussed the idea over with his fiancé. She stated “why don’t you build Chitty?, that has wood in it”. He replied “you find me the wheels, and I will build you Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (thinking she would not be able to find those wheels). My fiancé likes to talk with her customers at work, she asked around where she could find these unusual wheels. She came home one day and said ‘guess what, I found the wheels’.” Eugene drove to Saginaw, Michigan and saw a rusted out four door sedan that looked like it needed to be junked, but it did have wooden wheels. “I couldn’t really make out what kind of 40| Motorhead Magazine - February 2021

Construction of the body was helped first by drafting it out on paper to the specs from the 5 ½ inch model to the 17-foot original. The build was started with a cardboard template. “Halfway through, I realized I needed an engine that had to exhaust from the left side just as Chitty did in the movie.” Five junk yards later, he found a Chevrolet Iron Duke 2.5 with an automatic transmission. “I manufactured my own engine and transmission mounts and made a drive shaft to fit the rear axle.” After building the crossbar and firewall, Eugene fabricated the front of the car out of cardboard. He purchased 4x8 steel, 18 and 20 gage and manufactured all the steel parts for the car from the cardboard patterns. The fenders, hood, radiator shell, and all the metal parts were all made from this steel. This was the first body step. Second step was to build the wood framing for the back of the car. “After building the wooden framing I purchased 4x8 sheets of African mahogany plywood that I cut into 2 ½ inch wide strips. From past experience working on wooden cruisers, I knew how to steam bend the wood to my desired shape.”
Needing to get more detail for the car to be as precise as possible, Eugene watched the movie over and over. “I probably watched the movie 100 times looking for detail.” He noticed that the car in the beginning was different than the car in the middle and at the end of the movie. “This was driving me nuts, my mind was boggled by this fact as I couldn’t figure out why the details were so different. The steering wheel was different
colors, the windshield was brass in one scene and silver in another. So I put the build on hold until I could figure out why the details were different. Come to find out they actually used 4 different cars in the movie…2 with engines and 2 without. The 2 without were in the boat and flying scenes and the 2 with engines where of course for the driving scenes. All 4 cars were different, so I took the best of the best and that is how I built the car.” Handmade is the name of the game for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The headlights were rolled and welded. Lenses are out of cut glass. The two small lights next to the windshield are made out of propane tanks, spray can tops, and flared muffler pipe. The steering wheel along with
the six control levers on the dash that control all the functions of the car such as the ignition, the wings, the lights and the cooling fan are mahogany. “I did all the upholstery myself by tuffing pattern with buttons.” The wing arms are made from square tubing aluminum that pivot on the center point at the sides of the car powered by an electric motor gear. There are threaded rods that make the wings go in and out with wing fabric cut from parachute material. The two metal doors that open and close when the wings are exposed and put away. “The windshield is manufactured from my old shower door with custom handmade fancy wing nuts on the brass arm supports for the windshield and a brass bracket on the cowl.” The horn is from a brass

My fiancé would even be taking pictures of me building the car through the garage windows like you would see in the movie when the kids were peeking through while Dick Van Dyke was building it. It took me 1 ½ years to build this car. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s first official showing was on May 1st, 2010 in the Loyalty Day parade in Standish, Michigan. Since then, I’ve shown Chitty Chitty Bang Bang all over Michigan in car shows and parades. The best

The Holtsville, New York, driver, and two-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, announced on Friday he will compete for Jimmy Paige in the six Tri Track Open Modified Series events. Bonsignore will drive the same No. 00 he drove for Paige in the 2020 Tri Track finale at Stafford Motor Speedway, where the combination finished fourth in the Modified Classic 81. “I am really excited for an opportunity to run the Tri Track Open Modified Series in 2021 and drive for Jimmy Paige and his entire team,” Bonsignore said. “I enjoyed racing with them at Stafford, and loved the family atmosphere.” The combination will begin their tenure together at Monadnock Speedway in the Tri Track opener on Saturday, May 1. Bonsignore is no stranger to Monadnock -- having won the Whelen Modified Tour event at the track in 2020. Paige and the No. 00 team have also shown plenty of speed at Monadnock in previous events. Bonsignore will also compete with the team at Star Speedway (May 22), Seekonk Speedway’s annual $10,000 to win Open Wheel Wednesday (June 30), Star Speedway’s annual SBM (July 24), Monadnock (August 14) and Seekonk’s annual Haunted Hundred (October 23). Bonsignore will also compete for Ken Massa Motorsports, chasing his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title in 2021. ACT & PASS RELEASE UPDATED INFORMATION FOR ICEBREAKER, NORTHEAST CLASSIC Waterbury, VT — The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and Pro All Stars Series (PASS) have released the latest round of information for the Thompson Speedway Icebreaker on April 9-11 and the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) Northeast Classic on April 17. Both events are expected to attract some of the biggest, most talented fields of the year as they kick off the 2020 New England racing season. As part of the updates, ACT and PASS also have created a new Thompson Outlaw Open Modified Series information page. Teams and fans can visit www.acttour.com/outlaw-open-modifieds for the latest about all six of the big-money events, including the 46th Annual Icebreaker and the $20,000-to-win Thompson 300. This page will be updated throughout the year. The Northeast Classic also has an information page at www.acttour.com/northeast-late-model-classic. The biggest piece of the puzzle now available is the complete TourType Open Modified rules. The Icebreaker is headlined by a 125-lap, $10,000-to-win Outlaw Open event. The inaugural Northeast Classic

At NHMS, built engines must use a 3.98 maximum and 3.74 minimum gear. The range for spec engines is a 3.83 maximum and 3.63 minimum. No restrictor plate will be required at either track. Finally, ACT and PASS have released the rules and entry form for the 8-cylinder Street Stock Open at the Northeast Classic. The rules are nearly identical to what was originally planned in 2020, with the only change being that a 3.73 maximum gear is required. The 25-lap Street Stock Open will pay $1,000 to win with a total purse of more than $7,500. For this year, he looks to attempt to break into the top-five, and hopefully Victory Lane. “The Tri Track Open Modified Series has probably the toughest competition out of all of the races and series I have ever run,” Kocenhash said. “We are still learning every race out. Not having a manufactured car has added to that learning process, but at the end of last season, I think we got it a lot closer.” Tri Track confirmed six races for the new season last week, including two stops at Monadnock Speedway (May 1 & August 14), two at Star Speedway (May 22 & July 24) and two at Seekonk Speedway (June 30 & October 23). “The smaller, short-tracks are what I like the most,” Kochenash said. “I feel like racing is better. It takes some factors out, and you have to concentrate more on your setup and tire management. I like all three of the tracks on the schedule because each one is a little bit different.”
This year’s Thompson 300 is the first time the event has been held since 2005. Previous winners include Northeast racing legends Richie Evans, Geoffrey Bodine, Ron Bouchard, Jimmy Spencer, Mike Stefanik, Steve Park, Mike McLaughlin, and Ted Christopher.
Kochenash, a regular on the Race of Champion Modified Tour during this career, finished top-10 in two of the three races he ran with Tri Track last year. He was the youngest driver to compete in and win a Late Model race at Mahoning Valley Speedway at the time.
The return of the Thompson 300 is the finale in the six-race Thompson Outlaw Open Modified Series. The opener of the series is the $10,000-to-win Icebreaker 125 on April 10 and 11. The goal for the season is simple: hoist the big trophy at the end of the eight-race slate. The season begins in February, at New Smyrna Speedway’s World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, and ends at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 16. The team will also compete in a select amount of additional ARCA Sioux Chief Showdown events.
Based in Mooresville, North Carolina, the team announced on Monday the addition of Diaz as a full-time competitor in the ARCA East Series. Diaz will chase the championship driving the familiar No. 74, and as part of the ride, Diaz, and his family, will bring equipment and sponsorship to combine with the already established group at Visconti, proven to win races and run inside the top-five. J-Team.” The J-Team Home Improvements performs bathroom and kitchen remodels, basement remodels, trim work, vinyl laminate flooring, decking, tile work, and any home repairs that are needed. “Growing up, I loved the A team. It ended up playing a huge part in naming my company. I always wanted to do a van similar to the A Team and use it as my work vehicle.” He knew it would be a difficult task to find the right van, and when this 1977 GMC G25 Vandura came along, Jason knew it was the one. He is the second owner of this van. The original owners picked out every option for it, and the first thing they did when they got it off the lot was cut in the Martin sunroof. Soon to follow were flares, wheels, and more upgrades. They used it to go camping across the U.S. and haul motorcycles for a club. Etch reflects back to a simpler time when he could wash and wax his muscle car GTO before heading out to an area car show or cruise night. Make a quick stop at the local Dunkin’ to pick up iced coffees and muffins for himself and his friends waiting for him to arrive on the scene. Etch would have a trunk full of Motorhead Magazines to pass out at these events to all of his friends published every month along with thousands of his kids safety coloring posters and products reminding kids and families to Buckle Up! for Safety. Classic Rock Radio Station, I-105.5 FM cranking on his car stereo playing all of his favorite classic rock songs on his road trips back and forth to every cruise night and car show. Now, he has to drive for his life in his wanted muscle car. Etch decides it is time to find a gas station and fill up his gas tank before he is driving on just fumes. He would also like to check his oil and fluids if it is at all possible before being spotted by law enforcement searching the area for him and his wanted GTO. Etch eventually rolls up to a full service gas station and the attendant rushes
outside to put gas in the classic muscle car. Another attendant heads out the front door of the gas station to check out the ride pulling into the gas station. A couple of teenaged girls are following close behind. “Wow! This car is beautiful. Haven’t seen one of these on the road in quite some time,” said one of the gas station attendants. “We used to work on these old school muscle cars in shop class at our high school but they stopped that awhile back saying we need to focus on new computer tech and electric cars and trucks coming in the future. I felt physically sick when our shop teacher told our class that was the future of automobiles in the USA.” Etch feels like he has been hit by a ton of bricks when he thinks about electric vehicles and vehicles that drive themselves coming in the not-so-distant future. The gas station attendant and his friends are walking around the GTO taking photos and videos with their camera phones and posting them on their social networks for everyone else to see what they see filling up at the gas station. Their posts are receiving a lot of “Likes” and

He glances back in his rear view mirror and sees the teens still taking photos and video recording the GTO. Etch looks left, then right, then behind him. He drops the Goat into low and mats the gas pedal. The rear tires are spinning wildly leaving a huge billow of smoke from the burning rubber. The exhaust is so loud the two teenaged girls stop taking photos and videos to cover their ears with both hands. The teen boys are laughing and still video recording as the jet black GTO fishtails onto the blacktop and disappears around the bend out of sight.

Porsche Taycan Turbo S Vs Lamborghin

Spoiler alert: The Lambo wins the award for the best soundtrack. 873 kilograms (1,924 pounds). That’s the exact amount of extra weight the Porsche Taycan Turbo S has to carry around compared to the Lamborghini Huracan Evo. Surely this is a recipe for failure in a drag race, right? Not quite, the electric sedan’s massive torque of 1,050 Newton-meters (774 pounds) kicking in instantly when launch control is activated helps Porsche’s EV offset some of the fat it has over the Lambo. DragTimes lined up the two high-end VW Group products at a drag strip for the best two out of three. The Huracan’s 5.2-liter V10 represents the highlight of the golden ICE era about to sunset as
naturally aspirated engines are heading to extinction with each year that passes by. In the other corner, the Taycan’s extremely powerful dual-motor represents the future as we shift towards greener vehicles without sacrificing performance. Other than being all-wheel-drive cars belonging to the same German automotive conglomerate, the two models have practically nothing in common. A drag race doesn’t tell the whole story when it comes to a vehicle’s performance, but it speaks volumes about the insane straight-line acceleration the Taycan Turbo S is capable of despite its heft. On the other hand, the Porsche certainly lacks in the soundtrack department compared to the sweet noise delivered by the Lambo’s mid-mount-
