ED YESSAIAN Photos by Prime Time Video and Photo It’s hard to believe that we have just concluded another race season, here at New England Dragway. Personally, once the season eventually started, I found racing my only escape from all that 2020 threw at us. And one thing is for sure, the staff at New England Dragway was absolutely phenomenal. Every single member of the team went above and beyond, every single race, to ensure our safety and enjoyment. I took part in a bunch of specialty events throughout the season, but as always, my main focus was on the Outlaw 10.50 series. I have been involved in this series for over ten years, first as a spectator then eventually coming into the True Street division. Eventually, I made my way to Fast Street, where I currently reside with some of this index’s all-time greats like Ron Pomerleau and Ed Miller, and occasionally an appearance by the legendary Bob Dugan. The season itself is usually ten races but with the first two cut out, the racers had eight opportunities to put themselves on top of the mountain. The following five gentlemen stand victorious before you at the end of the 2020 Outlaw 10.50 season…

TRUE STREET 12.50 With five wins this season, “The Machine” Ron Childs took a commanding lead and never looked back. One of my favorite things about Childs is that after every single race he goes on social media and takes the time to thank his friends, family, and especially the New England Dragway staff. Childs finished this season with a career of 39 Championships and 417 total wins (he once laughed at me when I told him to aim for 400 wins). He said his secret this season was his ritual of dedicating every race to his three girls Emma, Savannah, and Mia. REAL STREET 11.50 After three “Runner Up” rankings in the past few years, everyone’s favorite good guy, “Fireball” Ralph Blackburn finally hammered down the Real Street Championship. Blackburn had three wins on the season and held the lead for the majority of the year. Charlie Rice claimed “Runner Up” with a great showing for this season as well. FAST STREET 10.50 With four wins and one runner up finish this season, Andy DeCastro successfully defended his 2019 Fast Street Championship. Runner up for the 10.50 group was resident sweetheart and the Queen of Fast Street, Michelle Sandford.

SUPER STREET 9.50 For the first time in many years, the 9.50 group had a decent turnout and some great competition. Charlie Robbins would eventually capture
the top spot with three wins on the season but past Champions Gregg Boudreau and Scotty Erickson gave him a run all season.
WILD STREET 8.50 This index came down to the last round of the last race with Larry Dufresne, Jon Sandahl, and Bill Sanford all in the running. At the end of it all, Bill Sanford secured his 4th Wild Street Championship.

GREG’S 1977 TOYOTA CELICA

When you think of a classic muscle car I’m sure the first vehicle that comes to mind is a GTO, Camaro, Chevelle, Mustang or Charger and not a Toyota Celica. Well, in this case, that applies. This is Greg Andrews’ 1977, Toyota Celica, and it packs a punch. To start with, this Toyota has a 2001, 5.7L LS1 removed from a C5 Chevy Corvette and nicely fitted into the engine compartment of this muscle car Toyota.
really looks great with this paint scheme and color. The engine compartment is fully painted as well for that real muscle car look. When you add those Edelbrock valve covers on this LS1 engine it’s hard to believe it’s sunk into a Toyota Celica engine compartment. Greg obviously spared no expense building his car and I admire his creative approach to building a unique one of a kind muscle car that stands out above the rest on the roadways in New England. A Lakewood Bellhousing sits neatly between the LS1 Chevy engine and a TKO600 5 speed transmission. The Toyota also features a shortened Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle for that push we all love in our own muscle cars. A custom aluminum drive shaft gets the job done between the engine, tranny and rear end. A 1985 Toyota Celica cross member has been modified with LS1 mounts taken from a MK3 Camaro. This rare Toyota also features a Moroso front sump pump oil pan, 1st Gen RX-7 (FB) radiator, aftermarket oil cooler and stand alone wiring harness. The exterior features fiberglass Smiley front and rear bumpers with fiberglass front lip and fiberglass 3 piece spoiler. “LOST ANGELS” By ROB MAY and RON MORIN While Los Angeles is in the South West part of the US, here we travel to the far North East part to celebrate Emergency!, the tv show (1972-1977) based on the Los Angeles County Fire Department. In Maine, we find “Lost Angels”, a Squad 51 history and education project. Photos by Dan Mayotte, Paramedic, detail this Squad 51 replica from the TV Series Emergency! Ron Morin tells the story behind this fabulous vehicle. This platform became possible by purchasing a 1972 Dodge from Alna Fire Dept. in Maine and an original Paramedic Rescue Body from California.

“While searching for a utility body, I came across the body on eBay that had been in a storage shed for more than fifteen years. We flew to California and dug the body out of a storage shed, and with come-a-longs (1971 style) we loaded it into a rental truck and drove back to Maine.” The body required some work; however, the cab was in immaculate condition with only 7,980 miles on it. “We applied the graphics “LOST ANGELS” FIRE DEPT, RESCUE SQUAD.” It’s very simple lettering, as to not duplicate the original trademark of the L A County Fire Dept. Emergency! Era Ambulance By ROB MAY and JIM COGDILL Keeping an unique NE and SW theme going for EMERGENCY!, Rob May finds an ambulance of the same seventies era as the vehicles from the tv show in Smyma, Delaware. Jim Cogdill owns this outstanding example of a 1970 Chevrolet Suburban Wayne Sentinel. The unit has a 350 engine along with a TH400 trans. This ambulance served its life in Missouri at a hospital transporting patients to and from the hospital helipad. In 1995, the unit was sold to James Eaton a local mortician. Mr. Eaton had given her a new lease on life until he retired and decided to sell her. “I purchased the unit in July 2019. Today she is used for parades and car shows. I have won several awards for it. She is the hit of the party so to speak. We had one like it on the volunteer squad I belonged to, and that inspired me to buy this ambulance. This vehicle has certainly brought back a lot of memories for sure. Watching Emergency! on tv made me get into EMS. As Emergency! was ending on tv, I had joined our volunteer squad in 1978.� An interesting note is the fact that The Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellflower, CA is restoring an ambulance that appeared on Emergency!

TRUCKIN’ SCENE By JIM WEICHERDING
2020 will soon just be a bad memory and with the New Year just around the corner, hopes for a better 2021 is on the minds of many of us right now. I gotta say how much I missed seeing all of those classic pick up trucks cruisin the streets this past year. You will be seeing a lot of trucks on the roads soon but most of them will be set up with plows instead of cool grills and front bumpers. I have yet to see any classic pick up trucks with a snow plow on the front ready to push snow out of our roadways and driveways across the region. We have made it through a trying year and I’m sure most of you reading this article right now would agree with that reality. Hot rod trucks are more than likely safely parked in their owner’s garages or maybe even getting some upgrades over the next few winter months. Whether you are a Chevy, GMC, Dodge or a Ford Classic Truck enthusiast you are probably chomping at the bits to take your ride on the road and cruise to the nearest automotive event in your area. Ever since I was a teenager and able to drive I’ve owned a pick up truck. I actually learned how to drive a standard truck while working at Sunset Orchards in Scituate, Rhode Island when I was only 14 years old. I had to learn how to drive the big 1950’s field truck around the orchard to retrieve apple baskets to sell to customers and apple drops for apple cider production back in the processing building behind the store front.
I’ve also had more than my fair share of classic muscle cars and hot rods over the years but driving a truck really tugs at my heart strings. I’d like to see more truck only vehicle shows happen starting next cruisin season besides all of the classic car shows. I know it’s traditionally called a car show and trucks are more than welcome to attend but I’d still like to see some truck only automotive events in 2021. Maybe around the months leading up to Halloween in September and October we could see some Truck-Or-Treat Events across the New England area and even nationwide next fall. I’ll see what I can do to help make those venues happen here in this region. Happy Truckin’ Holidays!

STAR SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES FULL 2021 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

EPPING, N.H. -- Star Speedway’s 2021 schedule includes multiple major events, a full slate of weekly racing series divisions ready to race for a championship and the thrills and spills of staple shows to begin and end the season. Fans will get a taste of Supermodifieds, Late Models, Modifieds, Midgets, Super Late Models, Trucks, Street Stocks and more over the course of more than 22 events of racing from April through October. The schedule is headlined by two events for the Tri Track Open Modified Series (May 29 and July 24), including a new Memorial Day weekend show and the 10th annual SBM Classic in July. The 56th annual Star Classic returns, with a three-day show from September 17-19, while there are countless other special events including memorial races and extra-distance shows planned. The Granite State Pro Stock Series is back at Star for two dates -- May 8 and a new Sunday special as part of the Star Classic weekend, September 19.
the Bunny Brawl and end with the title battle on September 26. The Street Stocks will continue to run their 50-lap race to end the season at the Howler, October 23. The EXIT Realty Pro Truck Series rumbles into the New Hampshire oval for two dates of their own, slated for events on August 7 and Star Classic Sunday, September 19. The North East Mini Stock Tour returns to Star three times -- including dates on June 5, August 7 and September 26. The annual NEMST 4 Cylinder Nationals main event will be run during their September date, moved from Classic weekend. Two Wild And Whacky Wednesday night races are set for June 23 and August 4, with both nights showcasing 4 and 6/8 Cylinder enduro races. The Six Shooters join the June show, while the August race is headlined by the Mia’s Jewelry Boutique Slingshots and spectator one-on-one drag races. NELCAR returns to Star with their Legends Cars division in 2021, with dates on May 8 and Saturday, September 18.
Continuing tradition, the season begins with the Spring Bunny Brawl on April 24, and ends with the twoday Howler weekend, October 23-24. Star will give teams, drivers and fans one week off each month during the season, with off nights scheduled for May 22, June 12, July 17, August 28 and September 4. The J&S Paving 350 Supermodifieds will continue to honor some of the best of the past at Star Speedway, with six special events as part of their 10-race schedule for 2021. A champion will be crowned on September 11. Major memorial events planned include the inaugural Dennis McKennedy Memorial race as part of the Star Classic: • Bob Webber Sr. Memorial (May 15) • Jen Garland Memorial (June 19) • Krupski Cup (June 26) • Marco Turcotte Memorial (July 24) • Jim Belfiore Memorial (August 14) • Dennis McKennedy Memorial at Star Classic (September 18) The Ken Izzett Construction Late Models are back with their own ninerace slate, headlined by an Independence Day weekend special on July 3, a 75-lapper, and a 100 lap feature on August 21. The Late Models will also return to the Star Classic, this year as part of a Friday slate. The Late Model champion will be crowned on September 11. The MLM Diagnostic Fast 40 series return for the Woody’s Street Stocks as part of the division’s 16-race schedule. There will be four races in the 40 lap series (April 24, May 29, June 26 & August 7), while the season will begin at
The three-day Star Classic will honor the late Bobby Webber Sr., beginning on Friday, September 17, headlined by a 100-lap race for the Modified Racing Series, joined by the Late Models, Pure Stocks and Slingshots. On Saturday, the day full of winged warriors is back with the ISMA 125, Dennis McKennedy 350 Supermodified memorial, NEMA Midgets, NEMA Lites and NELCAR Legends Cars. On Sunday, the weekend ends with a 100-lapper for the Granite State Pro Stock Series, races for the EXIT Trucks, Classic Lites, Street Stocks and Six Shooters. The Six Shooters will run 13 races, headlined by the Don & Aline Coster Memorial (July 10) and the Liz Paradise Memorial (October 23). The Slingshots are set for 14 battles of their own, with a 40-lap special scheduled for part of the August 4 show. There are 13 races for the Pure Stocks, races for the Classic Lites, and multiple enduro races for the 4, 6 and 8 cylinders. The track will hold two swap meets -- one to start the season on April 17, from 7-4 p.m., and one in the fall, a two-day special on October 30-31 from 6:30-3:30 p.m. The 2021 schedule is subject to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. BOB POMPEI My father’s cousin, John Cestrone was the owner and operator of a neighborhood Shell Gas Station on Academy Avenue in Providence. Cousin John earned the affectionate nick name “Jonny Shell”. In the early 60’s, I would spend weeks in the summer with Cousin John and his son John Junior at the Shell Gas Station. It was my summer camp. That experience, I believe, planted the seed and influenced me to develop a love for cars and speed. While at the station when a customer would drive to the Gas Pumps for fuel and ring the bell when running over the rubber hose, cousin John would say, Robba, “All Your Power” suggesting I should go out and take care of the customer. In those days, being in that environment, drinking coca cola out of a glass bottle and eating potato chips was just so enjoyable. With high school, college, military service and marrying my high school sweet heart, Shirley D’Errico Pompei, two beautiful daughters, a career and all the responsibilities of life, my love for speed and cars was put on hold. In the early 80’s Shirley and I meet Rose and Jim DiNunzio who become our lifelong friends. Jim and Rose loved cars, corvettes in particular. And as far back as I can remember Rose drove a new Corvette every 3 to 4 years. Rose and Jim helped us find a matching numbers 1961 corvette that in 2017 earned a Zora Arkus-Duntov award. The Duntov award recognizes individuals for the restoration and preservation of 1953 -1974 Corvettes. In the late 90’s I meet Rich Hallam, we actually worked together at Action Automation. If you
look up Hot-Rod in Webster’s dictionary, you’ll see a picture of Rich Hallam. Every conversation with Rich has to do with cars and speed. Now my adrenaline is pumping and my hidden passion for cars and speed comes alive after being dormant for almost 35 years. Rich introduces me to Jim Petrarca and Jimmy Jr. owners of Providence Street Garage. The Providence Street Garage is where you want to take your Hot-Rod, Classic car, corvette or Gasser to be 32| Motorhead Magazine - December 2020
built, restored or serviced. They do it all! Jim Petrarca helped me prepare the 61 Corvette for final judging of the Duntov award in
San Antonio, Texas. What’s next you ask, Jim finds me a 1932 Ford Steel Body Five window Coupe that we built into the little Deuce Coupe with a 1952 Oldsmobile Rocket Engine and a 1956 Oldsmobile theme. A great car but not fast. We need speed. As I got older the Willy’s body style, history and speed really caught my eye. When I mention Willys immediately people look at me and

say “The Jeep”! NOT! The Willys Corporation made Cars and trucks until 1942 when the company went Belly up! That was the same the US entered the Second World War. Our Government was looking for a manufacturer to build the Army Jeep. The Willys Corporation was contracted for that job and the Military Jeep as we know it today is the Willys Jeep. In the day, late 50’s early 60’s, Willys was very popular because of its lite weight, straight front axle with leaf springs front and rear, it became the go to body and chassis for Hot-Rodders who love to run the ¼ mile. We started the search for a 1940-42 Willys steel body. While we found a few online by the time we secured the car, had it delivered to RI and start the build process, it was just not cost effective. As time went on I grew impatient and subscribed to several Gasser magazines. I noticed a regular repeating add by Troy Thompson from Roland’s Rod Shop in Portland Oregon. Troy’s specialty was manufacturing Willy’s body parts that were no longer available or hard to find like, fenders, dash panels, glove boxes etc. On Troy’s website he displayed a Willys that he hand built. A few phone calls later, Jim and I are on our way to Portland to meet Troy and qualify his quality and capability. As luck would have it, Troy had a “Title” for a 1942 Willy’s Coupe that was partially there and somewhat recognizable. From a cowl, a couple of front fenders and a hood, Troy built the car you see today. Troy is a true craftsman. Troy has a relationship with Darryl Schroeder owner of Schroeder Speed and Custom in the
garage in South County to keep our toys safe, protected and maintained. The Willys was delivered there and for the next two years Tom and I with some coaching from Jim Petracra completed the build and prepared the Willys to be race ready. A few weeks ago at a Nostalgic Race Weekend at the Lebabon Dragway in Lebanon, NY we made our Inaugural run. We had a great weekend of racing, Tom and I both drove, raced. Youth has its privileges. Tom’s best time in the ¼ mile was 12.12 seconds at 109 MPH. This is a Vintage Willys metal carburetor fueled Gasser with nothing special about the engine, a basic 392. We were told at the track that in the day, this car would be considered real fast. We are looking forward to some fun racing weekends in the summer of 2021. Portland area. Darryl had the jigs and fixtures to build a perfect boxed chassis for the Willys body. Darryl and Troy worked together and had a model block of a Chrysler Gen 1 Hemi engine that was used to set the motor mounts and position of the firewall wall. While all of this was going on Jim and I secured a FabTec rear end complete with axles and shoe brakes. Jim secured a TKO600 five speed manual transmission. We sent those parts to Darryl to mount on the chassis as the body was fit in place. The process in Portland took about 2 ½ years. Finally in September of 2018 we took delivery of a 1942 Willys Gasser with no engine, no drive train, no glass, no wiring or an interior. EMERGENCY! IN DETROIT, MI
By JIM SUVA and MICHAEL HACALA Emergency! in Detroit, MI‌where we find both Engine 51 and Squad 51 replica/tribute vehicles. The Michigan Squad 51 was purchased in the summer of 2020 by Michael Hacala, who was inspired by Emergency! and became a Paramedic in 1986. Thanks to Michael for the photos. Jeff Yaroch, a firefighter and fan of Emergency!, purchased the engine in the Los Angeles area in 2002, brought it back to Michigan, and spent the next 3 years restoring it as a tribute to Engine 51, including a complete paint job and new decals.
The Engine 51 is a 1972 Ward LaFrance which is an actual exLA County Fire Department apparatus. It was one of a large order of Ward LaFrance engines in 1972 that was delivered to LA County and served as Engine 90. Randolph Mantooth (Paramedic John Gage from the TV show) was at an emergency vehicle event in Detroit in 2018 with the engine and signed the glove box. Soon after, Jeff took the signed cover of the glove box with him to an Emergency! event at Los Angeles County Fire Museum and added the signature of Mike Stoker, the one Emergency! cast member who was an actual LA County firefighter. Jeff shows the Engine 51 at selected fire apparatus shows and fire department events around southeast Michigan. The actual TV squad is a 1972 Dodge D-300 dually with an automatic transmission; this squad is a 1991 Dodge D-350 dually powered by the original 180-hp 5.9-liter V8 engine and manual transmission. This vehicle was originally purchased by the University of Arizona in 1991, and it spent over 20 years as a maintenance truck on the school’s campus. After its college service, a Paramedic in California purchased the truck and did the conversion to Squad 51, including a complete paint job (including inside the cab) and retrofitting the front end to a 1972 grill, headlights, and birdbath hood. Soon after, the vehicle was sold at auction to a vintage vehicle dealer, but never sold. It spent over 3 years jumping through at least three dealer auctions from California to Florida. In June of 2020, the squad failed to receive even a single bid at an eBay auction. A month later, Michael purchased the squad directly from the dealer and began repairs and additional restoration to period-correct details. He added six new tires, the chrome grab rails on the utility box and upgraded to a Federal TwinSonic CTS light bar used in the show. Additional, TV-era upgrades happening this winter will include cab roof marker lights, license plate frame, and the same siren used in the real squad. EMERGENCY! By ROB and GEORGINA MAY Alarm bells ring, firemen and paramedics respond, ‘KMG365’, and Emergency! begins with two vehicles leaving station 51. Flashing lights and sirens resonate in Bellflower, California, the home of the Los Angeles County Fire Museum. Inside, the original three “Emergency!” television vehicles are proudly on display. They are the open top Engine 60/51, the studio owned Engine 51, and Squad 51. Georgina Garcia May Photography moves us back to the Seventies. The show spanned 1972 to 1977 plus 6 follow-on tv movies to 1979. Thanks to Gil Garcia, museum board member, for the tour and information. (Thanks to Paul Reber and Paul Schneider for the lead). Station 51 is the home to the firemen and paramedics assigned there. It is a real station in more than one way. Station 127 on 2049 east 223rd St in Carson, California is the “home” to the fire station 51 in the TV show and remains active. A plaque near the front door honors Robert Cinader, producer of both Emergency! and Adam12. The exterior of the station clearly resembles its television appearances. (A new structure has been built on the adjacent lot). Rampart General Hospital also continues to host patients as Harbor General Hospital on the corner of Carson St and Vermont Ave in Carson, CA. Even from a few blocks away, the main building reflects the 70s famous icon. The emergency room entrance has some minor mods, and a few 38| Motorhead Magazine - December 2020
additions have been added elsewhere. Initially the Los Angeles County Fire Museum was a county garage at an old collision center. Visitors attended monthly open houses. Bellflower, CA offered the purchase of a new building in their town to base the museum. The grand opening at 16400 Bellflower Blvd was held on July 14, 2018. Sadly, it is temporarily closed. On the top floor is MAYNE Events center. International fans of the show from Europe, Japan, Australia, and more have all visited to view and talk about Emergency! and the original three vehicles. (It is only fair to

mention the vast inclusion of non-Emergency! artifacts at the museum are available for viewing). Universal Studios had a fire station of its own – number 60. Engine 60, an open top engine was utilized during the first two seasons. This truck is one of the last open top engines used by Los Angeles County Fire dept, a 1965 Crown Firecoach. Mike Stoker, the only actual fireman on the show, was the only one allowed to drive this county owned vehicle. Engine #60 transformed into #51 for the show. ! how #60 became #51 for the show and back to #60). Now the station at Universal Studios is numbered 51 (another way station 51 is real). Product placement is the name of the game in television (and movies). In 1973, Ward LaFrance donated the hardtop Engine 51 to Universal Studios. It was a full model and not just a television mock-up. The “on-screen” advertisement worked as LaFrance models were contracted for use all over the United States. After the show, Yosemite National Park acquired this #51 and placed it into service as Yosemite Engine #7. A restored 1937 Seagrave was traded for it to
return 51/7 to the museum. Meticulously bolt by bolt piece by piece Engine 51 was returned to its TV glory. Note details down to the correct period era markings on the fire hoses ‘E-51 1973’ have been placed. Watching the episodes over and over and stopping the video to individual frames helped with the restoration. Several actors have autographed the Engine and the Squad.

‘KMG365’ responds from Wisconsin, Rapids, WI. Years ago, Paul Reber and his family went on a trip to the LA COUNTY FIRE MUSEUM (Bellflower, CA) and eye balled the original station 51 vehicles that are restored and displayed there. Paul was also integral to having Rob and Georgina May receive a recent private tour at the museum setting the basis for our Dec 2020 tv vehicle theme features on Emergency! “When I was a young kid, an exciting new show called EMERGENCY! was introduced to the world showing the skills and adventures of LA County firefighters at station 51. Our family was hooked, and we faithfully waited for the next episode to be aired. Years had passed by and the show was forgotten by me, until I caught reruns on a retro TV station, and it brought back the memories of my youth. I became a volunteer firefighter in the village of Port Edwards, Wisconsin and after 8 years transferred over to the Grand Rapids volunteer fire department in Wisconsin. Being in the fire service and a sheet metal worker, I came up with the idea I wanted a Squad 51 replica. I then started to research and plan my build.” Paul found a correct wheelbase body/ chassis in Bristle, Tennessee. “I borrowed a truck and trailer from my two friends, and we went on a road trip. It took me 6 years to build, but this truck is an almost exact
replica of the Squad 51 used in that show. I built the box, running boards and back bumper myself in my shop.” All other work was done locally in Wisconsin Rapids area. It features the correct California Twinsonic light bar, a 440 cubic inch engine and an automatic transmission. The truck also has tools and equipment in the box including a K-12 Saw, Bio-phone radio, Defibrillator, drug box, stokes basket, SCBA air pack’s, replica shirts with badges, name tags, paramedic pins, patches, jaws of life, correct Chrysler power unit, and more. The replica Squad 51 is signed by Randy Mantooth (Johnny Gage) and Robert Fuller (Dr. Brackett).

As we all transition from one season to another, that also includes a transition to a New Year, I’m sure the future is something we are all thinking about and many of us are planning on what will be in store for us in 2021. I’m imagining a better year next year and during the next few months many of us will be working on our rides with new features, upgrades and customized add ons that separates one vehicle from another when we are able to head out to the cruise nights and car shows. We will more than likely be shifting gears when it comes to our rides. I see many changes in the same vehicle I see roll into area car shows and cruise nights, year after year, and that’s fine by me. It’s nice when owners make upgrades and changes with their rides during the long winter months. I’m a big fan of motors rising high above the stock or custom hoods on our rides and I don’t know many Motorhead’s that don’t appreciate a monster 50| Motorhead Magazine - December 2020

motor blocking our views out of our windshields. All that chrome reflecting the sun for miles in all directions so bad that the vehicle driver needs to wear thick sunglasses just to see the road in front of them. Most car show and cruise night spectators and classic car and truck owners need to wear sunglasses just to sneak up on the motor to get a better glimpse of what’s under that particular hood. If it has a hood at all. Supercharged and blown motors are awesome in this writer’s view. There isn’t anything like it when it comes to classic muscle cars and hot rods. It doesn’t even matter what decade the vehicle was manufactured when it comes to big motors sticking out of any hood. It just looks so cool! We Can Fix Plastic Tanks
Etch never thought that driving a classic car on America’s roadways would lead to a death sentence but here he is fleeing for his life. The GTO swerves recklessly from one lane to another as bullets fly by on all sides. Etch glances upward at the top rim of his windshield as he races under the overpass at a high rate of speed. The police officers run to the other side of the overpass and are shooting at the GTO but it just won’t stop. Etch continues to swerve from one lane to another on the open highway trying to avoid being hit by one of those bullets. Etch sees another off ramp exit sign just ahead of him and he realizes that he needs to get off of the highway and return to the backroads of New England as soon as possible. The bullets fired from the police officers revolvers have stopped. For now. The captain turns to his police officers and stares at them in
disgust. “Why are we trying to stop this guy? What in the hell did he do wrong? We should just mail him some traffic violations in the mail and put an end to this crap!” One of the other police officers replies, “We can’t do that. The Feds want him behind bars and his classic muscle car towed into the nearest scrap yard.” Captain, “Really? Then why aren’t they out here trying to catch him?” The police officers head back to their vehicles and sit confused about what they need to do next to stop the Outlaw GTO and its driver. Meanwhile, Etch cruises down the backroads of Rhode Island heading to a not yet decided destination. The sun is shining high above him and his jet black GTO on a beautiful day. Etch reflects back to a simpler time when he could wash and wax his muscle car GTO before heading out to an area car show or cruise night. Make a quick

Classic Rock Radio Station, I-105.5 FM cranking on his car stereo playing all of his favorite classic rock songs on his roads trips back and forth to every cruise night and car show. Buckleupallofus Toys For Tots T By JIM WEICHERDING The recent Buckleupallofus Toys For Tots Toy Drive Event helped generate 100’s of unwrapped toys to be dropped off for kids this Christmas. Thanks to the Buckleupallofus event partners, I-105.5 FM Classic Rock Radio Station, Sandy Motors, Motorhead Magazine, NRINOW.NEWS and Staples Stores, this event was a huge success. Staples provided 1,000’s of Jim’s Child Safety Coloring Posters to toy drop off locations across the state of Rhode Island, the Toy Drive Event and their in-store counters for customers to take home to their kids. That’s actually happening throughout the holiday season. Normally, the Toys For Tots Toy Drive puts toy drop
boxes in area businesses from November thru December hoping people will stop by with an unwrapped toy. This year marks the 5th year that the radio station and Sandy Motors had a toy drop box in the business but were absolutely amazed by what happened when we hosted an actual Toy Drive Event with Buckleupallofus Child Passenger Holiday Safety theme along with a live radio broadcast. The toys received in the event’s four hours surpassed all other toys collected in the previous years, combined. Jim also wrote an article about the Toys For Tots Toy Drive Event in Motorhead Magazine that helped attract many of his Car Show and Cruise Night buddies to arrive with toys for the kids.

On December 3rd, the Massachusetts third-mile announced the full schedule of events for 2021 -- one that will mark the 75th anniversary of full-time racing. Seekonk Speedway looks forward to welcoming fansback to the grandstands safely, as the recent vaccine announcements for COVID-19 are welcomed newsand talks continue with the state of Massachusetts. “Our schedule includes a bit of something for everyone who is a race fan in the region.” Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development at Seekonk Speedway, said. “We’re excited for all of our special events, but above all, we can’t wait to welcome back our great fans and get our premiere Saturday night divisions back on the track in 2021.” The season opens with two Test & tune sessions on April 10 and 24, while opening weekend returns on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. Saturday will include the Classic Car Show & Swap Meet fans have come to love, with burn out drags and race practice. On Sunday, May 2, the engines fire in a race competition for the first time with the Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sportsman, Trucks and Spectator Drags. The season rolls from this starting point in May all the way through October, with more than 45 events planned. Of the touring divisions included, two of them will visit Seekonk more than once -- with the prestigious Tri Track Open Modified Series bringing their top Modified talent for Open Wheel Wednesday (June 30) and the Haunted Hundred (October 23). Both races have a large purse and always attract the best Modified talent in the region. New for 2021, the American Canadian Tour (ACT) will also join the Haunted Hundred, along with the return of the Pro All Star Series (PASS) Super Late Models. All three races as part of the season-finale will be 100 laps, matching the Haunted “Hundred” name. PASS, New England’s premier touring Super Late Model division, will return to Seekonk for three events overall in 2021 -- including the big $10,000 to win race on Wednesday, July 28. PASS will also help headline the two races that will close the season -the annual Fall Classic, with a 150 lapper on September 25, and the Haunted Hundred. The track welcomes back five Thrill Shows to the schedule -- with a show for Memorial Day (May 29), Independence Day (July 3), Mid-Summer Spectacular (July 31), Labor Day (September 4) and the Pumpkin Smash (October 9). Note that all Thrill Shows are on Saturday night’s -- giving weekly competitors the night off. There will also be a special event on Sunday, August 8 -- headlined by the return of Monster Trucks and the first ever Spectator Drag race -- where drivers will double up and actually race for multiple laps together on the track, instead of just in a one-on-one format. As part of the weekly slate, track champions will be crowned in all nine divisions. Championship battles for all divisions except the Pro Stocks will include as part of the DAV Fall Classic weekend on September 24 and 25, as the Fall Classic returns to a two-day race format, with a practice session on Thursday night, September 23. The Pro Stock title battle wraps on Saturday, September 18, on Ocean State Oil Night, allowing drivers to compete with PASS at the Fall Classic. The Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series returns after a year off due to COVID, with a three-race, extra distance, set of races for all of Seekonk’s divisions. The Pro Stock Triple Crown Series races will be 60laps, while the Late Models will shift to 45 laps.
