2020s Boathouse
These are the Pennants that were awarded to all members of the winning crews to put on their blazers
From 1952
Copy of the training advice from the coach given to the rowers Craig Cup Winners in 1952This photo is from 1955. It was the first time a Methody crew rowed at Henley in the Princess Elizabeth Cup.
The account is from Bow. Harry McMahon, Captain of Boats
We were closing rapidly on Chester in the last 100 metres when Victor McQuoid, at six, caught a monumental crab and disappeared out of the boat. We floundered for a few seconds. I called a start from my position at bow .....; "DO A START. ARE YOU READY. ROW!" Peter Stratford at stroke, son of Rowing Master Ferdie Stratford, obliged by doing a fast start. The crew responded beautifully and a dozen or so stokes later we were beaten by half a canvas. We learned later that even if we had 'won' we would have been disqualified for not finishing with a full crew.
Photos and reports of the event were all over the back pages of the national dailies the following day.
