ADVERTORIAL FEATURE

PURE ELEGANCE Pilastro is designed to inspire a modern classic style and to add elegance to any table.

The simple, beautiful glass products in the Pilastro series— the carafe, wine cooler, cocktail shaker, drinking glasses, and bowls—have already adorned many homes. The latest additions include a tall-sided serving bowl and a tapas set. These new products maintain the same simple, sophisticated design language as the rest of the series, which was created by Francis Cayouette. The inspiration from the Art Deco style of the 1920s is evident in the decorative yet simple design, enhanced by a grooved surface that looks both understated and extremely elegant simultaneously. The tall-sided Pilastro serving bowl is perfect for serving salads, fruits, or as a decorative bowl on the kitchen or dining table. It features a design that seamlessly fits into most modern home decors and complements any dinnerware. The Pilastro tapas set consists of three bowls and a small tray. These bowls and the tray can also be used individually— for example, as skincare product bowls, jewelry trays, key trays, and tealight holders. The bowls are also excellent for individually plated desserts. By mixing the serving bowl and tapas set with the rest of the Pilastro collection, you can complete the ribbed glass expression and create a harmonious table setting.

MARKET FOCUS: GLASSWARE Right: The DRH Collection’s Anton Studio Designs will see new lines including extensions to its Empire collection with new shapes and a new colour – a deep, rich blue.

Crystal clear The crucial elements in the creation of glassware are design and durability. While trends change, the need for products which are durable and high quality remain. PH sits down with some key suppliers to find out what the latest trends are, and what’s important to both consumers and HoReCa when selecting products.

W

hen looking at the factors influencing both consumers and hospitality purchasing choices for glassware, it’s a simple and somewhat unchanging formula of design + function, with cost increasingly bearing weight on decisions. Michael Holmes, vice president of Anton Studio Designs and director of The DRH Collection, expands: “Like many other industries, much of the innovation for tabletop is shaped by fashion trends. As such, the broad answer to what is important when choosing glassware is ‘form and function’ and of course, cost. Wanting to find something which fits in with their home aesthetic and table setting, in order to add to their look and style. “And here it could be anything from colour, surface design, or even just sticking with the tried and tested classical shapes; all have their own merits and it very much depends on the desires of the consumer.”

The LMFV group has seen an increasing emphasis on cost. Pavlina Nikolava, trade marketing and digital manager for the UK and Ireland, explains: “As budgets tighten, consumers increasingly seek products that offer a taste of luxury without breaking the bank. With a rise in home entertaining, there’s a growing desire to enhance living spaces with affordable indulgences or little luxuries that deliver tangible value. “Consumers prioritise design-centric items that seamlessly integrate with their environment, seeking pieces that make a statement in the home, while still offering good value for money. Aesthetics are, and always will be, important for consumers.” Wassim Raouf, marketing director at CityGlass, agrees: “Our manufacturing hub specialises in crafting top quality glass goods that cater to a wide variety of market requisites. “We prioritise accuracy, excellence and costeffectiveness throughout our diverse range of glassware. By amalgamating classical artistry, with state-of-the-art technology, we consistently deliver exceptional products.” In terms of the design element, there are some key trends highlighted at the moment, which differ across different territories. Masayuki

MARKET FOCUS: GLASSWARE Seki, international department of housewares, Ishizuka Glass, tells PH: “In Japan, we have seen a boom in collecting retro items over the last three years. Many people, especially younger generations, collect retro design products. We released the Aderia Retro series three years ago and it became a boom here in Japan. “The design of this series is simply printed flowers or other objects with various colours. The designs were very popular 40 or 50 years ago, so the Aderia retro is a re-make of those old designs.” Coloured glassware is also seeing a resurgence. “We’ve noticed coloured glassware is becoming incredibly popular with consumers looking to add pops of colour, mixing and matching to achieve a contemporary look when designing their tablescape,” observes Pavlina. Entertaining at home is having an impact, Pavlina says. “We also see consumers moving back to entertaining and hosting, a nicely decorated table has become a big trend for this. There has also been a shift towards home bars and mixology, our Manhattan and Jazz designs fit perfectly with this theme – the Manhattan design reflects the New York skyline, while the Jazz takes inspiration from piano keys.” Gin took the UK by storm over recent years and is now spreading further afield. Michael continues: “Though the gin trend may have peaked in the UK, we are finding that not only is it still on the rise in other nations, but also that the glasses themselves are more of a must-have within people’s cabinets – and are being used for more than just G&T, and instead work perfectly for certain cocktail concoctions.” Glassware trends have also taken a sidestep into the hot beverage category. Maryna Doig, operations director, Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Wilmax, comments: “Thermal glassware is in itself a trend. And one of the main trends is textured thermal glass. We always had a big variety of plain and double wall glasses in our collection. Now we are launching a series of glasses and jugs with a segmented/stripy texture and glasses with a hammered texture, adding in total 150 new shapes to our already extensive collection.” Influences for glassware come from a wide range of places. Masayuki outlines: “The retro boom was led by coffee shops and restaurants originally. Especially some coffee shops which emphasise the atmosphere of old style. “After we confirmed this boom, many TV stations came to our factory and interviewed our designers about this series and it accelerated the boom even more.” Pavlina furthers: “The dining and hospitality landscapes are always evolving, establishments often serve as trendsetters, influencing consumer preferences and shaping the mood of tableware design. Duralex recognises the pivotal role that

hospitality settings play in setting trends, as these venues curate experiences that resonate with consumers and inspire them to recreate similar environments at home. “By observing these trends Duralex remains at the forefront of design innovation, ensuring our tableware collections align with the evolving tastes and preferences shaped by these influential settings.” Michael highlights other areas of influence: “Trends are driven via many sources – be it social media, television, and of course the hospitality sector too. And where better to find some amazing drinks being thought up, discovered and presented in the most amazing manner, other than in restaurants and bars – and doubtless these make it into many homes too.” Travelling is another influencer in the sector. Maryna explains: “These days consumer travel a lot. They don’t only pick up trends from their local tea and coffee shops, but also from their travels. We are looking at these travel trends and adding products for consumers to bring their travel memories to life in their homes.”

With its high quality standards, Eternum clearly stands out from cheap suppliers.” Although the hospitality sector took a huge knock during the Covid pandemic, it is bouncing back driven by investment in the sector and the continuously changing lifestyle of consumers. “People are out socialising again, perhaps more than they were before the pandemic. Tourism is also recovering, which is good for the hotel industry, and therefore good for our business,” says Brice. But the Eternum brand is not just for the hospitality and catering industries. Over the past two years, the company has been growing its retail business. “We are in a unique position that we can offer retailers not only our full range of Eternum branded products, but we have a complete made-to-measure personalised service. The timeless Classic collection is ideal for restaurants and private dining tables with a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. Made of 18/10 stainless steel, this cutlery contains an alloy of 18% chrome and 10% nickel which makes it more resistant to scratches and signs of daily use. Specially designed for the most demanding users, Signature cutlery is destined for the best tables worldwide. This high quality cutlery is made of pure 18/10 stainless steel and is finished with a superior polish. As consumer tastes change, so does the cutlery and tableware they want to use. With its own manufacturing plant, Eternum is in an enviable position of being able to quickly respond to trends; and to set trends itself. “We’re seeing a large demand for coloured cutlery,” says Brice. “So we’ve introduced a number of colourways into our Young collection, including copper, black, gold and champagne using PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition), which still means cutlery has resistance to surface wear,

Eternum at Ambiente Eternum will showcase its latest new products at Ambiente in Frankfurt at the end of January. Visitors can see these new ranges and the rest of the Eternum range at Stand D11 in Hall 12.1. To celebrate its centenary, Eternum will launch Cento in its Signature collection at Ambiente. A unique design by Nick Holland, it marks Eternum's craftmanship and expertise: thanks to the hot forged technology, it was possible to create the central line raised and keep it extended all the way to the bottom of the stem, giving Cento a unique appearance. A new innovation for Eternum is the Gastropan in the Gastronum collection. This advanced nonstick, scratch-proof, 3-ply masterpiece simplifies cooking. With an additional base for extra stability and faster heat distribution, it's versatile across all stovetops. Also new in the Gastronum collection is a matt black teapot, coffee pot, creamer and bill tray. Left: A matt black teapot, coffee pot, creamer and bill tray are new in the Gastronum collection.

even with professional use.” A growing segment of Eternum’s business is its expanding steak knife and tableware collections. “We always say we are specialists in cutlery, but it’s actually more than that. We are experts in stainless steel,” says Brice. “So in recent years we have introduced steak knives and a range of tableware accessories under the Gastronum brand. Thanks to its 13% chrome steel content, our steak knives offer a remarkable cutting edge and durability over time.” With 100 years of history behind it, Eternum really is a cut above the rest and looking forward to the future. “Our growing retail presence and our ability to adapt to changing market conditions means the prospects and future of our products and brand are absolutely excellent,” sums up Brice.

Meet me at ambiente Right: Visitors will be able to see and touch all the newest introductions..

Ambiente is one of the largest international trade fairs for consumer goods, bringing together buyers and suppliers from all over the world for five days at Messe Frankfurt from 26 – 30 January. And when it comes to household, tableware and kitchen the Dining section of Ambiente is the unrivalled number one worldwide.

mbiente Dining is growing and remains the most important global marketplace for international new products and ranges for the table, kitchen, and household. “The registration level in the Dining segment is great – the western area is overbooked in terms of space," says Thomas Kastl, director Ambiente Dining. “We are delighted about many returnees and exciting new exhibitors in all product groups. The big brands – the big players in the industry – are all there.” Table and Table Select will once again be in Halls 12.0 and 12.1 with new exhibitor Gers van Well and returning exhibitors Bormioli Luigi, Narumi, Noritake, RCR, Rosenthal, Royal Tableware and Seltmann-Weiden to name but a few exhibitors. Cook and Cut will be in Hall 8.0, Modern Kitchen and Baking in Halls 9.0 and 9.1 and Clean Home and Storage Solutions and Top Deals and Collections in Halls 9.2 and 9.3. Hall 11 will be dedicated to HoReCa again, with the big names such BHS Tabletop, RAK Porcelain, Steelite and Villery & Boch all exhibiting. The HoReCa Academy is back in the North Foyer of Hall 11.0 with a tailor-made lecture programme. New this year is Hotelier's Day on the Monday. The day is aimed specifically at hoteliers, restaurateurs, chefs and F&B managers. Among other things, the Hotelier's Day includes trend tours in German and English with visits to exhibitor stands of interest to hoteliers and restaurateurs. “Ambiente Dining offers even more potential for

new contacts and synergies: wholesalers and retailers or commercial traders, specialised contract business and hospitality buyers, outfitters, project planners, distributors or hoteliers and international hotel chains, caterers, chefs, F&B managers and restaurants will all get their money's worth in Frankfurt,” says Thomas. A new exhibitor this year is Scandinavian homeware and giftware brand BosilunLife (Hall 9.3, Stand B51) with its pioneering new recycled ceramics. BosilunLife's approach is in perfect harmony with a market hungry for change. As global awareness of sustainability grows, its use of recycled ceramics presents a concept of the future where

Spotlight on Ethical Style Sustainability is becoming an important purchasing consideration for more and more consumers. This means the topic is also on the agenda for retailers. But the field is wide and the abundance of products is confusing. The Ethical Style programme of Ambiente aims to make it easier for visitors to see which suppliers have sustainable product ranges. Companies can register to be judged by and an independent jury of international experts for the Ethical Style mark. The judging takes into account various aspects of sustainability such as environmentally friendly and recyclable materials, resource-saving manufacturing processes, craftsmanship that preserves traditions, as well as future-oriented products and processes and socially responsible working conditions. A total of 374 exhibitors at Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld will be entitled to use the Ethical Style label in 2024.

20-21_Tablewares.qxp_PROGRESSIVE ELECTRICAL 14/01/2024 22:41 Page 2

FOCUS ON: AMBIENTE eco-consciousness and authentic design seamlessly intersect. “The question on everyone's mind is whether recycled ceramics are just a trend or the start of a major industry shift,” says Helder Olivier, the creative force behind BosilunLife collections. “This material offers a unique blend of durability and design versatility, appealing to a growing segment of consumers and businesses who value both aesthetics and environmental responsibility. It's about crafting a legacy that honours nature.” His sentiment resonates with the ethos of a brand that originated from a friendship united by a vision of sustainable elegance. Kohn Chen, the visionary CEO of the duo, adds, “We're inviting everyone to join this movement, to embrace a future where every item we use reflects our respect for the planet.” From a first timer to a veteran exhibitor, Villeroy & Boch’s Dining and Lifestyle Division (Hall 11.0, Stand B10 and B11) will once again be exhibiting at Ambiente rolling out its new tagline: Where Hospitality meets Home. Together with Christian Haas, Villeroy & Boch is continuing the successful designer cooperations of previous years and presenting Afina, a unique collection developed for both retail and the hospitality sector. Afina impresses with an exciting flowing shape that gives the porcelain a unique floating appearance, as well as with a subtle relief inspired by rays of sunshine. With its striking design, the new La Boule will be a real talking point at Frankfurt, and will also be revealing a surprise with a new size and thus a different function. Reflecting the continuing trend for pottery tableware, the Lave and Crafted collections are being extended with new products and a popular trend colour. New shapes and colours are also being added to the two best-selling collections of Manufacture Rock and Boston.

“We are very much looking forward to interesting conversions and discussions with our customers,” comments Andreas Schönfelder, sales director dining and lifestyle at Villeroy & Boch. “We are also offering an exciting experience for our visitors that will allow them to discover our new Afina collection from a completely different perspective.” Famous German porcelain manufacturer Goebel (Hall 12.1, Stand B20) will showcase its wares, including Raindrop, a new collection in its Studio 8 product range from fashion designer Gabriele Strehle. The raindrop serves as an inspiration source for an outstanding series of vases and bowls. A clear and smooth transformation leads from one form to another. It creates the illusion of floating motion emphasised by a grooved structure and different colour gradients. Many UK distributors will make the trip to Frankfurt to catch up with suppliers and seek out new ones. John Alexander, national sales manager at Whitby &

The Trends of Tomorrow The Conzoom Solutions Academy offers important industry knowledge on new perspectives and convincing best practices with exciting lectures. The focus is on trends, but also on current topics such as the influence of artificial intelligence, gamification and sustainability on the consumer goods industry. Experts from a wide range of disciplines will discuss the challenges facing the retail sector on the lecture stages and provide answers and assistance tips for the point of sale of tomorrow.

Co, UK distributor for Opinel is looking forward to the show. “Consumers are looking for good quality, stylish products and if there is a story behind the brand that only helps to underline that quality,” says John. “At Whitby & Co we specialise in working with heritage brands or brands with a point of difference and iconic French knife manufacturer Opinel (Hall 8.0, Stand H88) is both. Opinel has over 130 years’ experience making heritage products with unrivalled craftsmanship.” The Opinel tabletop offer now includes one-piece Perpetue steel cutlery which is elegant but also dishwasher-safe and joins the large existing selection of coloured-handle table knives. “All these ranges work perfectly to blend with any décor, a style result today’s consumers are keen to achieve,” says John. “Ranges like Facette table knives are bistro chic style but also work well for more formal occasions. This range has a sustainable angle too as the handles are made from natural wood or VittEr eco-material made of compressed paper. All the wooden-handle ranges are sourced from nearby European countries and this is a specific choice by Opinel to meet the global demand for sustainable products and brands.”

In an era where environmental consciousness takes centre stage, at Grunwerg we are committed to addressing our own carbon footprint and actively participating in industry-wide efforts to mitigate climate change and combat the global climate crisis. We firmly believe that every choice we make can contribute to a greener future. Our new Recycled Plastic Cutlery is a testament to this commitment. Crafted from 100% recycled plastic, specifically rPET, recovered from recycling, this collection offers a durable and stylish alternative to conventional single-use plastic utensils. Our Recycled Plastic Cutlery isn’t just any plastic—it’s a conscious choice. rPET is a high-quality, durable plastic that is commonly used in plastic bottles and food containers. By utilising post-consumer and post-industrial rPET plastics, we reduce waste and conserve valuable resources. This eco-conscious approach not only minimises environmental impact but also helps close the recycling loop, making it the environmentally friendly choice for cutlery sets. Sustainability doesn’t mean compromising on style. Greenworks’ full-tang 18/0 cutlery comes in an array of elegant and contemporary designs, making it the ideal choice for intimate dining settings and everyday use. Additionally, we are proud to offer a 3-piece children’s set, specially designed with younger diners in mind, ensuring that sustainability becomes a family affair.

Building upon our unparalleled expertise in the art of crafting traditional VG-10 Damascus steel blades, we proudly unveil Katana Saya Flame. A masterpiece that redefines the standards of quality and opulence. Rainbow Damascus steel is a captivating variation of traditional Damascus steel, defined by its swirling patterns and multicoloured finish. Developed from traditional techniques often reserved for the most esteemed Japanese bladesmiths, our blades come to life with a mesmeric display of copper and brass intricately folded through the steel. This artistry results in a shimmering ripple effect, evoking the sensation of flickering flames and glowing embers. Beyond its captivating visual allure, Rainbow Damascus Steel boasts exceptional performance. The VG-10 Steel core exhibits the supreme strength and durability expected from Katana Saya. The edges, honed to a razor-sharp 15° angle, attain a remarkable Rockwell Hardness rating of 60-61. Furthermore, the octagonal handle design pays homage to traditional handles fitted to bespoke knives from esteemed Japanese bladesmiths. The lightweight yet exceptionally durable shape has become a common favourite amongst professional chefs worldwide.
