Conservation in Fiji - a photo essay

In December 2009 I visited the World Wide Fund for Nature’s South Pacific office in Fiji for six months to explore conservation in the region - specifically the relationship between funder and funded. Conservation work is largely funded from areas distanced from the work’s implementation, and by people who many not be connected to the results. The relationship between funder and funded is often wide and reliant on PR. I wanted to document the reality of conservation implementation. I found that WWF South Pacific is a remarkably successful office located in a country hugely receptive to its messages. The result is that Fiji and the wider South Pacific region is, in many ways, leading the way in conservation, and ironically their main weakness is their ability to communicate these successes to the wider world.
