PATRICIA SEITZ, PROFESSOR, ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT CHAIR Patti is a registered architect and president of Seitz Architects. She has won the WID Award and exhibited research on Cordoba, Spain at Columbia University and MIT. Patti has received grants from the Nuckolls Fund, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Affairs, the Aga Khan Foundation, and the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA). She is a member of the Boston Society of Architects Board of Directors. Her practice focuses on sustainable buildings.

PAUL PATURZO, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Paul is a registered architect and former dean of the Graduate Programs at MassArt. His design work includes sustainable land use studies for habitat conservation in Belize, forest restoration in Tanzania and equestrian land use in New England. Paul has lectured on land use in Tanzania, Boston and Belgium.

TAMARA ROY, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Tamara is a principal at Stantec, Inc. She specializes in multifamily residential, academic and commercial projects. Tamara mentors the ‘What’s In’ research initiative and speaks widely on the need for more creative housing solutions for those of limited means. Tamara is a past president of the Boston Society for Architects (BSA) and a recipient of the BSA Women In Design Award of Excellence for 2012, and has won numerous American Institute of Architects awards for her design work.

TRACK II (60 CREDITS)
Track II is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related field. Applicants to Track II demonstrate the ability to manipulate structural and environmental systems and to integrate these systems into the design work presented in their portfolio. The program starts in June with the Community Build studio course. Applicants with prior architectural degrees who do not meet the criteria for entrance into Track II may be placed into the Track I program.

MassArt MArch students work in a community that includes eight other graduate programs in art and design, comprising a remarkable group of thinkers and makers. Graduate students from all disciplines become part of a diverse community of artists and designers working within a wide range of media, modes of expression and perspectives.

MArch students are afforded numerous opportunities to gain professional experience during their course of study. All graduate students are eligible to apply for a range of paid on-campus assistantships. Our position within the vibrant Boston architecture scene provides abundant opportunities for off-campus internships and additional work experience outside the classroom. Many MArch students take advantage of paid positions which can also earn credit, during the academic year and the summer break.

MassArt’s 2019 Community Build project involved the design and construction of a community greenhouse, supported by the Boston Food Forest Coalition and Farmer’s Collaborative. Located in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood, the greenhouse now stands on a small lot alongside fruit trees and summer vegetable gardens. Wood framed, the exterior is developed from panels of double-layered polycarbonate.

2018 / PAVILION ON BIODIVERSITY AT THE PEABODY ESSEX MUSEUM Developed in partnership with the Salem, MA museum’s Art and Nature Center to support the temporary exhibition Wild Designs, featuring works by artists who look to nature and living systems for new ideas and creative solutions to human problems. 2017 / PUTTERHAM MEADOWS PAVILION Public amenity for golfers and the general public, drawing inspiration from the woods surrounding the course. 2015 / THE CODMAN ACADEMY CHARTER PUBLIC SCHOOL Outdoor learning space in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood.
