Artist Toolbox

9th - 10th Grade

In their first year, students develop their drawing skills with a focus on line, value, form, and proportion. They work from direct observation, still life, and the human figure, as well as from their imaginations. Students also develop foundational 3D skills, by exploring clay, cardboard, wire, and plaster. By the end of this course, students are more confident artists and have a body of work demonstrating skill and personal expression.

Design Concepts

9th - 10th Grade

Once students have gained fundamental skills in illustration, observation, and proportion, they take Design Concepts — a course designed to build upon foundational experience through multi-material programming. In this course, students develop an understanding of the fundamentals of graphic design in paper and digital media, and they push their thinking to solve complex design problems.
