More Than

150 years of Experience

Malvern College UK opened in January 1865 to two dozen boys and half a dozen masters. Initially, there were two Houses but expansion was rapid and by 1877 there were six Houses and 290 boys. Today’s co-educational College came about in 1992 when three successful schools (Malvern College, Ellerslie Girls’ School and Hillstone Prep) were brought together. Also at the beginning of the 1990s, Malvern continued to be at the forefront of innovation by being one of the first schools in Britain to offer the International Baccalaureate in the Sixth Form. Over the last twenty years Malvern College has shown itself to offer all that is best in co-education. There is approximately an equal number of boy and girls, and the College has remained a proper full boarding school with a large majority of pupils on campus during the weekends. Malvern College UK’s campus is framed by the majestic backdrop of the Malvern Hills which around 600 million years old. The hills run North-South for about nine miles and are made up of mainly granite and gniess. Their beauty and grandeur have inspired many musicians and poets over the centuries, the most famous of whom is Sir Edward Elgar. They were also the inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkein’s “Misty Mountains” in his children’s classic “The Hobbit”. The name ‘Malvern’ comes from the Celtic Moelbryn meaning ‘bare hill’. Malvern College UK has expanded overseas since 2012 with the founding of Malvern College Qingdao, and again in 2015 with Malvern College Chengdu. In 2016 Malvern College Egypt opened, closely followed in 2018 by Malvern College Hong Kong.

WE LEARN WE LEAD Our curriculum is far more than the subjects that are taught; it is the whole range of learning opportunities that students have access to throughout their years at MCE and will form the basis of their lifelong learning and success. We aim to make learning exciting, challenging and fun so that all students develop the knowledge, skills and interests that will enrich their lives. We want students to be enthusiastic about their learning, to accept responsibility for their learning and to develop a thirst to learn more. We constantly review and develop our broad and balanced curriculum so that students have access to subjects that will maximise their learning and future options. We have developed pathways to match need and aspirations. We are unique in that we offer a 12 Year Pathway or 13 Year Pathway of Education. Learning is a mindset, as much as a series of skills. We therefore teach students how to study and become effective and successful lifelong learners. Our students understand the importance of a ‘growth mind set’ and resilience - students are encouraged to try things beyond their current experience - essential for their future success.

EARLY YEARS The Early Years program provides a safe, secure, happy, and fun introduction to learning. Our approach puts the child at the center of their learning with opportunities that are cross –curricular and meaningful. We encourage an interest in learning through an inquiry-based approach that engages the children in topics in which they have shown interest. Children learn how to listen to others, to communicate their ideas effectively, to solve problems and to develop resilience by persisting with tasks they may find challenging. Pupils develop at different speeds in many different areas. It is vital that our parents encourage and reinforce the classroom learning at home so that we encourage and support every child as they progress along their learning journey. We believe in creating a learning environment that is stimulating for all the children. We encourage outdoor learning to help cultivate their curiosity so that they develop into assured young learners who have the selfconfidence and spirit to succeed as they progress through the College.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Malvern College Egypt places great emphasis on ensuring that pupils develop humility and kindness, with an awareness of their responsibility to help others, care for the environment and respect all living things. Our programme of community service projects helps pupils to develop this understanding through a variety of community service activities. Many of these projects are organised and implemented by the pupils themselves. Some examples of these projects include visits to charities, donation appeals and fund-raising dress-up days and bake sales. We ensure that funds raised are allocated responsibly and used to benefit worthwhile causes. We also encourage parent participation in our community service activities. MCE has a very active and supportive Friends of Malvern Committee who play a key role in our parent-led efforts.
