Acabo de hacer un nuevo amigo, aquí, en Ibiza. Solo tiene veintidós años, pero le sigo el ritmo perfectamente. Me dice: "Andreu, ¿te vienes a saltar desde las rocas de Sa Caleta?" (también conocida como Es Bol Nou, una playa ideal para familias, con un excelente restaurante de pescado). Lo último que haría es jugarme la vida despeñándome desde una roca, pero no puedo permitir que huela mi miedo: "¿A saltar…? Pues claro, vamos". Me encanta rodearme de jóvenes. Su vitalidad me pone las pilas, pero estoy molido. Me invita a cenar en el casco viejo (zona conocida como Dalt Vila, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad y coronada por la Catedral de Santa María, un lugar perfecto para disfrutar de las vistas). Llegan los postres y se me empiezan a cerrar los ojos. Aprovechando que mi joven amigo se ha ido al baño, llamo al camarero y le pido cinco cafés bien cargados. Mi amigo vuelve: "¿Listo para ir de party?". Le contesto: "Totalmente. Estoy a tope”. Nos vamos de copas al 'F*** me I'm famous', el primer Lounge Club del mundo ubicado en un aeropuerto. Me caigo de sueño. Disimuladamente me voy directo a la cubitera que hay sobre la barra y empiezo a llenarme los calzoncillos de cubitos. Mi amigo parece no tener suficiente: "A esta isla le falta marcha". (¡Estamos hablando de Ibiza!). "¿Adónde vamos ahora?". (¡Que alguien me ayude, estoy muy cansado!). Cogemos el coche y nos vamos a la discoteca Pachá. Allí cada martes (de junio a octubre) se celebra el Flower Power, una de las fiestas más emblemáticas de la isla. Nada más entrar me pido una cola, dos bebidas energéticas y tres cafés, todo mezclado. Salimos de allí a las nueve de la mañana. Mi amigo propone ir a bucear a la Cala Salada (nombrada la segunda mejor playa de Europa por sus aguas color turquesa). Prácticamente soy un cadáver, así que me limito a flotar. Todavía empapados, me lleva a ver la salida del sol desde el club BoraBora, en la playa d'En Bossa. No puedo más. Antes de subir al coche abro el capó y meto la lengua en los electrodos de la batería. Mi amigo se viene arriba: "¡Venga, vamos a comprar al mercadillo hippy de Las Dalias!" (en Sant Carles de Peralta). Al final le he confesado la verdad: “Mira, lo nuestro no funciona. Tenemos ritmos vitales distintos". Me ha dicho que lo entendía perfectamente, pero que me diera prisa, que llegábamos tarde a las fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen (cada 16 de julio). ¡Ay, divina juventud!
I’ve recently made a new friend here in Ibiza. He is only twenty-two, but I can keep up with him, no problem. He said to me: "Andreu, why don’t we go and jump off the rocks at Sa Caleta?" (also known as Es Bol Nou, this beach is great for families and has an excellent fish restaurant). The last thing I feel like doing is risking my life by leaping off a rock, but I can’t let my fear show: "What? Jump? Well… ok, let’s go." I love to be around young people, their vitality gives me energy, but right now I’m feeling a bit tired. He invites me to go out for dinner with him in the old town (the area known as Dalt Vila, a World Heritage site topped by the Cathedral of Santa María, the perfect place to take in the views). By dessert time, my eyelids are falling. My young friend has gone to the bathroom, so I ask the waiter to bring me a coffee… no bring me five. My friend comes back: "Shall we do some partying?" “Of course,” I reply, “I’m ready for it.” We go for a drink at F*** Me I'm Famous, the world’s first airport Lounge Club. I’m so tired that I’m falling over. I take a detour to the bar, where I pick some ice cubes out of the ice bucket and put them in my socks. My friend, on the other hand, wants more: "There isn’t enough happening on this island.” (We are talking about Ibiza!). "What shall we do now?" (Somebody show me to a bed!). We take the car and go to a club, Pacha. There, each Tuesday from June to October is Flower Power night, one of the island’s most famous club nights. When I get inside, I order a coke, two energy drinks and three coffees, all in one glass. We get out at nine in the morning. My friend suggests going scuba diving off Cala Salada (which came second in a competition for Europe’s best beach because of its turquoise waters). I’m nearly falling into a coma by that point, so I just float around. Still dripping, he takes me to the sunrise session at the club Bora-Bora, on the Playa d'En Bossa. I can’t do any more. Before getting back into the car I open the bonnet and put my tongue onto the battery electrodes. My friend comes round: "Come on, let’s go to the Las Dalias hippy market!" (in Sant Carles de Peralta). In the end I have to tell him the truth: “Look, this isn’t working. We’re running on different tempos." He said that it was no problem, he understood, but that we had better hurry up or we would be late for the Virgen del Carmen fiestas (on the 16th of July). Ah, isn’t youth a wonderful thing!

La hospitalidad y el orgullo son las señas de identidad de los sardos, un pueblo peculiar dentro del puzle cultural que es Italia. El hecho de estar rodeados de agua y de haber sido conquistados y reconquistados durante siglos ha hecho macerar un temperamento especial y un idioma imposible para el resto de los italianos. Al sardo le encanta hablar de todo aquello que le hace diferente y detesta que le hagan sentirse inferior. Así que hay que dejarse guiar. Porque no dudarán en dar lo mejor que tienen, que no es poco: por un lado, una costa repleta de playas paradisíacas y, por otro, un mundo interior oculto entre vegetación y montañas abruptas. Dos mundos opuestos que combinados conforman una identidad única.
A warm welcome and pride in their island are two things you can expect from Sardinians, a fascinating people that makes up a piece in Italy’s cultural jigsaw puzzle. Being surrounded by water and conquered and reconquered over the centuries have forged a special character and created a language that is almost impossible for other Italians to understand. Sardinians love to talk about what makes them different and hate anything that makes them feel inferior. So just go with the flow. This island has a lot to give: a coast with some magnificent beaches and an inland world of rich vegetation and steep mountains. These two worlds come together to make a unique identity.

El Mediterráneo es para esta joven estudiante el alma de Cerdeña y la pieza clave que ha moldeado el carácter de los sardos. Por un lado, es el camino hacia la libertad y fuente de vida; por otro, un elemento que les aísla del resto del mundo. "El mar supone ventajas e inconvenientes, y eso hace que nuestro carácter sea a veces cerrado pero también amable. Nos hace reservados, pero no tímidos. El extranjero siempre ha sido una novedad para nosotros y nos gusta que se sienta en su casa". Los meses estivales son, para Valeria, los idóneos para exprimir la costa sarda, pero reconoce que el interior de la isla esconde un tesoro y se hace apetecible durante todo el año.

Foreigners have always been a novelty for us and we want them to feel at home here.” For Valeria, the summer months are the time to make the most of the Sardinian coast, although she adds that the island’s interior has many treasures and can be enjoyed all year round.

"La mayoría de la gente viene por el atractivo de nuestras playas, pero yo le cuento a los turistas que, si quieren conocer la verdadera Cerdeña, hay que adentrarse en la zona de montaña". El universo más tradicional se concentra aquí. Giovanni nos habla de una cultura del pasado, de viudas que visten de negro, de la vida pastoril, de hombres que valoran sobre todo la valentía y de historias de bandidos. "En esta zona, poco a poco, se ha ido comprendiendo que trabajar con el turismo es una ventaja más que un inconveniente para la tradición".

Dejó su querida Cerdeña en el año 55 para buscarse un futuro mejor en Francia como trabajador de la construcción. Hoy, este octogenario guasón disfruta de la jubilación en su isla, donde vive entre siete y ocho meses al año. Le gusta viajar por los pueblos y disfrutar de la gastronomía que ofrece la cultura sarda: "el queso pecorino, las salchichas, la ricotta y, sobre todo, los spaghetti ai frutti di mare, un plato único en el mundo". Define a los habitantes de la isla como gente amable, abierta al extranjero, pero reconoce que en el ADN hay un puntito de orgullo que Efisio ilustra entre risas con una frase memorable: "Los sardos somos gente buena, pero no le toques el culo a mi hermana porque, entonces, ¡te mato!".
He left his beloved Sardinia aged 55 to seek a better future in the French construction industry. Today, this light-hearted octogenarian is enjoying his retirement back in his homeland. He enjoys travelling to different villages and enjoying the rich cuisine of Sardinia: “pecorino cheese, sausages, ricotta and, more than anything else, spaghetti ai frutti di mare (“spaghetti with seafood”), a dish that is unique in the entire world.” Efisio defines the island’s inhabitants as friendly and open to foreigners, although he sees a proud streak in them which he illustrates with a memorable sentence: “we Sardinians are good people, but don’t touch my sister’s bum or I’ll kill you!” he says, roaring with laughter.

Plarent Berhamaj y Paolo Nazzari, los ganadores, ya tienen su obra vinilada en uno de nuestros nuevos aviones A320, que volará por toda Europa hasta finales de 2013. Su propuesta nació de una pregunta: ¿Por qué viaja la gente? La curiosidad intelectual hacia otras culturas parece la respuesta más sencilla, y dentro de ésta los monumentos resultan la atracción más valiosa. Por eso su obra está llena de siluetas de los diversos monumentos de las capitales europeas y españolas. “Las siluetas tienen el mismo tono y se colocan una al lado de la otra para enfatizar que Europa está unida por su diferencia y por su diversidad”, dicen los autores.
Where do you wanna wake up tomorrow? This is the name of the winning project from the Linking Europe Competition, organized on the theme “The Construction of Europe through Cities and Culture” by Vueling and the Mies van der Rohe foundation in support of young talent in the areas of architecture, engineering, design and art throughout Europe. An international jury composed by experts from different fields appointed the winning proposal, evaluating the consistency with the theme of the competition, the quality of the design, the originality and the power of the resulting image. Plarent Berhamaj and Paolo Nazzari, the winners, already have their work painted onto the new A320 aircraft that will fly around Europe until the end of the year. Their project was born out of a question, why do people travel? Intellectual curiosity towards other cultures seems like the easiest answer, and within this appreciation monuments appear to be the most valuable attraction. That is why their work is full of diverse monuments from European and Spanish capitals. “Each building is shown in the same shade of color to emphasize the unity of Europe through its differences and diversity”, according to the creators of the work.

Meanwhile, Drika and Fabrizzio followed the cryptic instructions they'd been given. The palazzo materialised before their eyes at the exact coordinates provided. Trembling, they entered the central patio from which two grandiose staircases snaked upwards, embracing each other on the first floor. The students plucked up their courage and proceeded step by step. After inspecting the area , they found a peculiar-looking door, its suggestive carvedwood motifs still in tact. They continued into the drawing room, decorated with heavy drapes and full of books piled all over the floor. Both noticed the elegant chair and enormous desk overflowing with retorts, stills, pestles and mortars, test tubes and other artefacts befitting the activities of an alchemist. Beneath a discoloured laboratory flask there was a diary, written in Latin and exquisitely illustrated with painstaking instructions. Fabrizzio understood the Latin perfectly. The diary mentioned invisibility in a post-script, as a byproduct of what the alchemist was searching for. This turned out not to be the Philosopher's Stone, but something much more prosaic and probably more pleasurable: a love potion. A tiny Murano-glass bottle, tightly closed and full of a transparent liquid, stood beside the diary.
Not too far away, the director of Fabrizzio's thesis, Professor Corina Hartzenbuch, was

Drika y Fabrizzio intercambiaron una mirada de asombro y acordaron no contar nunca a nadie lo que acababan de vivir. Básicamente porque nadie iba a creerles. Después acudieron a la cita con el matrimonio de mentores. En la recepción se había dispuesto una larga mesa con canapés, hielo, diversas bebidas y una campana invertida repleta de ponche veneciano. Drika dejó un momento la botellita en la mesa para poder buscar mejor en su bolso una libreta. Quiso el azar que la botellita de cristal de murano se asemejara mucho a las demás y que, en ese breve intervalo, un camarero ver-
tiera su contenido en el ponche distraídamente. Ni Drika ni Fabrizzio lo advirtieron, y los cuatro rellenaron sus copas con el ponche, brindaron por la arquitectura y, no sin antes fijar sus ojos en la persona que tenían enfrente, bebieron un largo sorbo del elixir. Drika y Corina quedaron electrizadas mirándose como si nunca lo hubieran hecho antes. Y el viejo profesor y Fabrizzio supieron que, a partir de ese instante, ya nada sería lo mismo. Shakespeare y Donizetti sonrieron desde sus tumbas…

Fate would have it that the Murano-glass bottle was very similar to the rest, whose contents, in that brief interval, a waiter absent-mindedly poured into the cocktail. Neither Drika nor Fabrizzio realized what had happened. The four filled their glasses with punch, made a toast to architecture and, not without first looking fixedly at the person in front of them, drank the potion in one long gulp. Electrified, Drika and Corina gazed into each other's eyes as if they had never met before. The old lecturer and Fabrizzio also knew that from that moment, nothing would ever be the same. Shakespeare and Donizetti smiled from their tombs...

Los ya caballeros de la Orden de Malta cumplieron esa condición hasta 1798, cuando fueron expulsados de la isla por el futuro emperador Napoleón Bonaparte que pasó por allí al frente de su ejército, camino de Egipto. Al poco tiempo, en 1800, la isla volvió a cambiar de manos para pasar a las de Inglaterra. Lo que mucha gente no sabe es que la estación de metro de esta famosa plaza está situada a 40 metros bajo tierra y decorada de una manera muy peculiar. Te sorprenderá saber que sigues en Estocolmo.

Mi rincón especial es la plaza de Sarrià. Plaza, fachadas antiguas, juegos infantiles, grandes árboles, mercado, mercadillo de sábado, pastelería, iglesia... alimento para el cuerpo y para el alma. De la pasteleria, la más exquisita de Barcelona, salió un poeta, Foix. Y dentro de la iglesia reposan los restos de Pere Tarrés, médico, profesor y sacerdote ejemplar. Plaza con historia, con vida de barrio, con personalidad y personalidades y con chispa.
Paseando por el barrio de moda de Valencia (Russafa), encontré junto al mercado el lugar con más encanto, El Cafecito. Tropecé por casualidad al ver que disponían de mi café italiano preferido. Y aparte de descubrir unos desayunos deliciosos, me deleité con una oferta gastronómica saludable y variada, desde comidas exóticas hasta el más típico plato valenciano-italiano. ¡Ah! Además, en su saloncito puedes encontrar revistas de todas las partes del mundo. ¡Muy recomendable!
Acabo de regresar de un hermoso viaje a Dubrovnik. Es la primera vez que experimento Vueling y he quedado muy contenta. Como experiencia especial, además de visitar Dubrovnik, Mostar y Medjugorje, contarles que estuvimos en el nacimiento del Buna, afluente de Neretva. Un lugar escondido y hermoso para visitar. El agua sale helada y poner los pies en ella resulta purificante.
A special place for me is the Plaça de Sarrià, surrounded by old facades, with a place for the children to play, big trees, a market (and flea market on Saturdays), a pastry shop, a church… food for the body and soul. The pastry shop, the best in the city, produced a poet: J.V. Foix. Inside the church is the grave of Pere Tarrés, a doctor, teacher, priest and example to follow. This is a square with history, with a neighbourhood feel, with personality (and personalities!), with atmosphere.
Having a look around fashionable Russafa in Valencia, I found a fantastic little place next to the market: El Cafecito. I happened to see that they served my favourite Italian coffee, and going in I discovered they do a great breakfast. In fact, their food is healthy and quite varied, from exotic dishes to the most traditional Valencian and Italian dishes. They also have a lounge area with magazines from all over the world. I recommend it!

I have just got back from a wonderful trip to Dubrovnik. It is the first time I have flown with Vueling, and I was very happy with the experience. As well as visiting Dubrovnik we went to Mostar, Medjugorje and the source of the River Buna, a tributary of the Neretva. This secluded spot is absolutely entrancing. The water comes out of the rocks freezing cold and putting your feet in makes you feel electric!

Visito con frecuencia Marsella por motivos de trabajo pero estoy seguro de que lo seguiría haciendo aunque no tuviera necesidad de hacerlo. Procedo de una familia multicultural por lo que Marsella para mí es como una gran familia. Solo hay que moverse en transporte público por la ciudad o visitar alguna de sus playas para comprobar la cantidad de etnias y nacionalidades que se pueden encontrar entre los marselleses. Porque lo mejor es eso, que todos se consideran marselleses, procedan de donde procedan. De hecho yo casi ya me siento también de allí…
Había oído hablar tanto del soterramiento de la M-30 (para bien y para no tan bien) que Madrid Río fue lo primero que quise visitar a mi regreso a Madrid después de 10 años sin ir por allí. Y reconozco que me encantó. Sobre todo por lo que supone de recuperación de un espacio para todos los ciudadanos. Donde antes solo había coches, humo y atasco, ahora es posible pasear junto al Manzanares, o ir en bici, patinar, tomarse algo en alguna terraza, lanzarse en tirolina, jugar en originales columpios de madera…
No hace falta visitar ningún parque para disfrutar del verde de Cardiff pero, aún así, conocer Roath Park es algo de lo más recomendable. El mejor momento del día para hacerlo es por la tarde, justo antes de que se vaya el sol. La luz de esa hora es la ideal para hacer fotografías y llevarnos un recuerdo en nuestra cámara de los jardines de rosas y sobre todo del lago y su monumento al Capitán Scott, que partió desde Cardiff rumbo a la Antártida allá por el año 1910.
I often visit Marseilles for work, although I am sure I would continue to do so even if I didn’t have to. I come from a multicultural family, so Marseilles is like one big family for me. Just go somewhere on public transport or visit one of the beaches to see that the Marseillais are of all ethnicities and nationalities. And they really all do feel they are from Marseilles, wherever else they are from. In fact, I feel a bit as if I am from there myself…
I had heard so much about the project to put the M-30 underground (good things and not so good things), that Madrid Río was the first thing I wanted to see after my first visit to the city in more than 10 years. I really loved it. Above all, you can see that it has given residents more space. Before, there was nothing but cars, fumes and traffic jams here, now you can walk along the Manzanares, or cycle, skate, have a beer or a coffee, go on a zip line, play on real wooden swings…

You don’t have to go to a park to see greenery in Cardiff, though even so I recommend a visit to Roath Park. The best time to go is in the evening, just before sunset. The light at that time is great for taking photos. So we went and took some shots, souvenirs of the gardens full of roses, the lake and the monument to Captain Scott, who left Cardiff for Antarctica in 1910.
