Dalí. All of the poetic suggestions and all of the plastic possibilities

Primera exposición monográfica en España del pintor impresionista Camille Pissarro (1830-1903). Figura fundamental del Impresionismo -fue redactor de su carta fundacional y el único que participó en las ocho exposiciones impresionistas, de 1874 a 1886-, quedó sin embargo eclipsada por la gran popularidad de sus amigos y compañeros. Con más de 70 obras, esta exposición buscará restaurar su reputación, presentándolo como uno de los grandes pioneros del arte moderno. El paisaje, género que domina en su producción, centrará el recorrido de la muestra, visitando cronológicamente los lugares donde residió y pintó: aunque su obra se asocie a la vida rural, en sus últimos años se trasladó al medio urbano, y su producción de entonces está dominada por las vistas de ciudades.

Through a selection of over two hundred works (paintings, sculptures, drawings...) organised into eleven sections that follow something of a chronological order, this exhibition encourages visitors to rethink the place occupied by Salvador Dalí in the history of 20th century art, suggesting that his importance as a figure and his legacy stretch beyond his role as the architect of surrealism. The exhibition examines how this controversial and prolific creator, of unmatched imagination, was capable of generating perturbing art that speaks directly to spectators. An art that, reflecting the scientific discoveries of the times, explores and expands the boundaries of consciousness and of sensorial and cognitive experience.

Pissarro First monographic exhibition in Spain on the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro (1830-1903). A key figure within Impressionism (he wrote the movement’s foundational letter and was the only one of its artists to take part in all eight Impressionist exhibitions from 1874 to 1886), Pissarro was nonetheless eclipsed by the enormous popularity of his friends and colleagues. The exhibition includes more than 70 works with the aim of restoring Pissarro’s reputation and presenting him as one of the great pioneers of modern art. Landscape, the genre that prevailed in his output, will be the principal focus of this exhibition, which offers a chronologically structured tour of the places where the artist lived and painted: while Pissarro is traditionally associated with the rural world, at the end of his life he shifted his attention to the city and his late 10 output is dominated by urban views.

El tema escogido es el que más fama dio a Sorolla: la pintura del mar. La exposición acompaña al pintor en su intenso, apasionado estudio del color en el más inquieto de los medios, el agua, y en el más extenso de los escenarios: el mar. This exhibition includes 66 paintings from the museum’s own collection, some never exhibited before, and various objects related to the practice of painting. The Sorolla Museum in Madrid explores the favourite and most popular subject of this artist: the sea. This is a delightful way to take a closer look at his way of analysing “the natural” and his use of colour. A chance to experience the numerous hours that the artist spent beside the sea, until it evolved into one of his greatest sources of inspiration. The exhibition consists mainly of paintings, with some “colour notes” –small panels or cards with Sorolla’s notes, and which are key to understanding his working method. Along with the pictures, are shown several objects related to topics to be discuss: the color and the perception, color in nature, the means of the painter.

A finales de los años 1960 surgió en Estados Unidos ‘El arte del presente’ exhibe 103 piezas de la colección que Helga de Alvear ha reunido a lo largo de las últimas cuatro décadas, compuesta en su totalidad por más de mil obras, a través de las cuales se puede realizar un recorrido por la historia reciente del arte. La muestra aborda todas las disciplinas artísticas del arte actual –fotografía, pintura, vídeo, instalaciones, escultura y dibujo–, en una selección de obras de 76 artistas de reconocido prestigio internacional. Entre ellos, destacan Helena Almeida, Francis Alys, Matt Collishaw, Olafur Eliasson, Günther Förg, Thomas Hirschhorn, Axel Hütte, Christian Marclay, Zhang Peili, Jason Rhoades, Ugo Rondinone, Thomas Strut, Jeff Wall y Ai Weiwei, entre los extranjeros, y a Alicia Framis, Jorge Galindo, Prudencio Irazabal, Cristina Lucas, Juan Muñoz, Santiago Sierra, Juan Uslé y Eulalia Valldosera, entre los españoles.

Helga de Alvear The exhibition “ The Art of the Present” consists of a series of universes that the visitor may encounter when strolling through the halls, and its layout intends to generate an energy that does not level the differences or tensions among the works, but rather allows dialogues to appear in the spaces where the resonance or disturbance come into contact, dialogues which replace the moment and the contextual limitations. The inttention is to suggest situations and themes that include some of the most fervent issues of the convulsed world in which we live and which is shown to us by the works in this collection. On this path the exhibition mix expressive dynamics of different natures (pictorial, photographic, sculptural, audio-visual and architectural) so that there might be a territory contaminated by identities that today, more than ever, it is meaningless to limit or take as being static.

La llegada del buen tiempo en Madrid significa la apertura de las conocidas terrazas. Las hay de todo tipo, a pie de calle, en áticos desconocidos, escondidas en edificios históricos, en mitad de un parque, o en las afueras de la ciudad. Sin duda, los madrileños saben disfrutar de una buena comida al aire libre, o de un lugar para tomar un café a media tarde … las reuniones con amigos en estas terrazas pueden acabar con una copa a media noche, o quien sabe, si bailando hasta el amanecer. La oferta de las terrazas madrileñas está abierta a cualquier propuesta. The arrival of summer in Madrid means the opening of the famous “terrazas”. They come in all types, at street level, at an unknown attic, hidden on the top of a historic building, in the middle of a park, or on the outskirts of the city. There is no doubt that the locals know how to enjoy an open air place where they may take a coffee, or simply meet with friends for a midnight drink…. and that may end up dancing until dawn. The Madrid “terrazas” offer is open to any proposal.

Con una decoración vanguardista y sofisticada, esta terraza en plena Gran Vía madrileña resulta un lugar ideal para evadirse. Su música (Chill Out, bosanova y jazz), con DJ en directo los fines de semana, la cuidada decoración de diseño y el ambiente ajardinado nos permitirán olvidarnos del calor del verano y disfrutar de una rica oferta gastronómica o bien de un rico mojito. Un auténtico chiringuito deluxe en pleno centro de Madrid. 2. Hipódromo de la Zarzuela. Una apuesta original. (Av. Padre Huidobro) En las afueras de la ciudad se encuentra este recinto con 75 años de historia en el que las carreras de caballos son sólo un complemento más de la diversión que ofrece su terraza. Todos los jueves por la noche, durante el verano, el hipódromo abre sus puertas no sólo para celebrar carreras sino para disfrutar de una noche completa con una oferta gastronómica y de ocio original y sorprendente.

Pegue, acceda al portal, tome el ascensor, y a pesar de las apariencias… no dude en subir a la 6ª planta. Casa Granada. A “clandestine” place. You’ll never find this place in a guidebook. Many locals do not even know of its existence, and many think it is a clandestine place. Look for “17, Doctor Cortezo” street, and then push at the “Casa Granada” tiny sign of the intercom. Get into the entrance hall, and, despite appearances, feel free to use the elevator to go up to the 6th floor. You will reach the penthouse that hides a Spanish typical bar, with wonderful views. En verano, tienes que visitar las terrazas de los alrededores de la plaza de Chueca, que siempre tienen buen ambiente. Y, por supuesto, si quieres conocer todo cuanto te ofrece la ciudad de Madrid más abierta, visítala durante la celebración del Orgullo Gay (última semana de junio). Chueca area, where all inhibitions have been cast aside to make way for fun and tolerance, and where you’ll find a whole host of wicked venues, techno discos and designer clubs. In fact this neighbourhood has always been a beacon of modernity, and was the birthplace of the famous “movida madrileña” (a countercultural movement of the 70s and 80s). And as well as being the favourite hangout of the gay and transsexual community, the streets in this area are becoming more and more popular with anyone looking for first-rate nightlife. In summer, it’s well worth visiting the outdoor terraces in the surroundings of the Plaza de Chueca square, where you’re always guaranteed to find a great atmosphere. And of course if you want to see for yourself everything that’s on offer in this most openly tolerant of cities, why not visit Madrid during Gay Pride Week (last week of June)? The event features open air concerts and shows, as well as a parade of floats and fancy dress, while the whole area is awash 48 with rainbow flags.

ORGULLO MADRID MADRID PRIDE Madrid celebra, entre el 3 y el 7 de Julio de 2013, el MADO’13 (Madrid Orgullo). Este evento supone la que probablemente sea la mayor fiesta de la ciudad. Gran parte de las actividades se celebran en el barrio de Chueca, pero la fiesta ha sobrepasado a esta zona y se extiende por otras calles de la ciudad. El MADO’13 contará con 5 escenarios en los que se celebrarán distintas actividades: La Plaza de Chueca, corazón del barrio, y en ella se celebran los eventos para todo tipo de público: vecinos y familias. También será donde se dé el pistoletazo de salida el miércoles 3 a las 21.00. Pza. Vázquez de Mella: aquí se celebrará “La Culta”, el festival de arte social, callejero, urbano, comprometido, social... Pza. del Rey: sede del festival cultural “Muestra-T”. El viernes albergará flamenco y el domingo noche de danza y la clausura. Calle Pelayo: lugar para las celebraciones más atrevidas, con actuaciones de los personajes más conocidos del ambiente y la tradicional carrera de tacones. Pza. de Callao: la programación en esta plaza, pasa por la actuación de artistas pop. Además el viernes tendrá lugar la final del concurso “Mr. Gay”. La tradicional marcha-manifestación (el desfile) partirá el Sábado de la Estación de Atocha, subirá por el Paseo del Prado, Cibeles y terminará en la Puerta de Alcalá. Madrid Pride (MADO´2013) will take place between July 3rd and July 7th. This event is today the biggest annual celebration of the city. It takes place mainly in the Chueca area (gay district of Madrid), but the party has overwhelmed this neighborhood and has extended around the main streets of the city. MADO’13 will have 5 main stages where different activities, concerts, performances, … will take place: Pza. de Chueca: will host the opening speech on July 3rd. Popular activities for kids and elders will bring back the authentic Street fair flavour to this celebration. Pza. Vazquez de Mella home of “LaCulta” festival: social art, street art, urban art, etcetera Pza. del Rey: home of the Muestra-T cultural festival, where diverse music such as jazz, flamenco or modern dance will be scheduled. Calle Pelayo, a pioneer in Madrid Pride celebrations will keep its stage and sidewalk bar stands. This is the home of the most genuine and fun performances and activities such as the traditional High Heels Race. Pza. Callao: this stage will be on from thursday to saturday with pop music performances and, on friday 5th: Mr. Gay Pride contest. The traditional parade vindicating the rights of the LGTB movement will take place on Saturday, at 18.00 starting at Atocha station, making its way through Paseo del Prado and Cibeles to finish at Puerta de Alcalá (around 11 pm). 51
