La muestra permite articular una selección de 137 obras entre pinturas, acuarelas y dibujos, realizados entre 1899 y 1940, con casi un centenar de manuscritos seleccionados entre las notas de las clases de Klee en la Bauhaus, que representan cada uno de los 24 capítulos que componen los textos de Klee. Las obras de Klee están organizadas en secciones según cinco temas: el color, el ritmo, la naturaleza, la construcción y el movimiento.Los préstamos de la exposición proceden de la colección del Zentrum Paul Klee de Berna y de muchos otros museos y colecciones, públicas y privadas, de Suiza, Alemania, Francia, Estados Unidos y España.

La muestra da cuenta de cómo este artista controvertido y singular, prolífico e imaginativo, fue capaz de generar un arte perturbador que apela directamente a los espectadores. Un arte que, haciéndose eco de los descubrimientos científicos de su época, explora y expande los límites de la conciencia y de la experiencia sensorial y cognitiva. Dalí. All of the poetic suggestions and all of the plastic possibilities Through a selection of over two hundred works (paintings, sculptures, drawings...) organised into eleven sections that follow something of a chronological order, this exhibition encourages visitors to rethink the place occupied by Salvador Dalí in the history of 20th century art, suggesting that his importance as a figure and his legacy stretch beyond his role as the architect of surrealism. The exhibition examines how this controversial and prolific creator, of unmatched imagination, was capable of generating perturbing art that speaks directly to spectators. An art that, reflecting the scientific discoveries of the times, explores and expands the boundaries of consciousness and of sensorial and cognitive experience.

Paul Klee: Master of the Bauhaus The exhibition is the result of several years of work in collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, and it is based on what may well be —after the publication of the artist’s catalogue raisonné— the most significant and relevant research project on Klee of a “structural” nature conducted in the last decades: the critical edition of his pädagogischer Nachlass. Paul Klee: Master of the Bauhaus presents a selection of 137 works comprising paintings, watercolors and drawings executed between 1899 and 1940, alongside nearly a hundred manuscripts chosen from among his lecture notes, which represent each one of the twenty-four chapters into which Klee’s texts are divided.

These notes and illustrations center on the notion of pictorial form, its regular features, governing principles and genesis; on geometry, planes and volumes; on movement; on natural and artificial structures; on configuration in the plastic 8 arts; on rhythm and on color.

Hiperrealismo

A finales de los años 1960 surgió en Estados Unidos un grupo de artistas que pintaban con gran realismo objetos y escenas de la vida cotidiana utilizando la fotografía como base para la realización de sus obras. La exposición que presenta ahora el Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza plantea, por primera vez, una antología del Hiperrealismo desde los grandes maestros norteamericanos de la primera generación, como Richard Estes, John Baeder, Robert Bechtle, Tom Blackwell, Chuck Close o Robert Cottingham, a su continuidad en Europa y al impacto en pintores de generaciones posteriores, hasta la actualidad. El Hiperrealismo no es un movimiento cerrado; hoy, más de cuarenta años después de su aparición continúan en activo muchos de los pioneros del grupo y nuevos artistas utilizan la técnica fotorrealista en sus creaciones. Herramientas y motivos han evolucionado o cambiado con el tiempo pero con su increíble definición y nitidez, las obras hiperrealistas continúan fascinando al público.

Hyperrealism In the late 1960s a group of artists emerged in the United States who painted scenes and objects from daily life wit a high degree of realism, using photography as the basis for their works. For the first time, the exhibition now presented at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza offers a survey of Hyperrealism that starts with the great US masters of the first generation such as Richard Estes, John Baeder, Robert Bechtle, Tom Blackwell, Chuck Close and Robert Cottingham, continues in Europe with their influence on subsequent generations, and concludes in the present day. Hyperrealism is not a closed movement and today, more than forty years after it arose, many of the pioneering figures continue to be active while new artists deploy the photorealist technique in their creations.

FERIA DEl libro book fair La Feria del Libro de Madrid celebra este año su 72ª edición desde que se celebrara por vez primera en 1933. Desde entonces se ha convertido en uno de los acontecimientos culturales más arraigados de la ciudad. Durante la primera quincena del mes de junio se darán cita en Madrid los más importantes editores y escritores de la literatura en español para presentar sus novedades, y los éxitos editoriales del año. Este evento al aire libre se realiza en el Parque del Retiro, con casetas instaladas en el Paseo del Duque Fernán Núñez (más conocido como “Paseo de Coches”). Este año, durante 17 días, desde el 31 de mayo hasta el 16 de junio, cientos de expositores mostrarán su catálogo al público de la feria. Madrid Book Fair celebrates its 72th edition since it took place for first time back in 1933. It has become one of the most entrenched cultural events of the city. During the first half of June, Madrid hosts the most important editors and writers of Spanish literature showing their releases, and year’s bestsellers. This outdoor event takes place in ‘El Retiro’ park, with booths set up at Paseo del Duque Fernan Nunez (also known as “Paseo de Coches”). Hundreds of exhibitors will showcase their catalog 11 to the public attending the fair, during 17 days, from May 31st until June 16th.

feria del libro book fair La historia de la Feria del Libro de Madrid cumple este año su 80 aniversario, pues se celebró por vez primera entre el 23 y el 29 de abril de 1933. Si bien se trata de una cita anual, no siempre se ha celebrado (por ejemplo durante los años de la Guerra Civil y la posguerra) y es por eso que hemos llegado a 2013 celebrando su 72ª edición. En aquella primera feria de 1933, las editoriales madrileñas instalaron 20 casetas en el Paseo de Recoletos, acompañaron al evento de un festival de teatro español y consiguieron que acudieran a la cita personajes ilustres de la época, como Niceto Alcalá Zamora, Presidente de la República, varios ministros y numerosos editores, periodistas y escritores. Supuso un éxito entre el público de la época. Pasada la posguerra, la feria vuelve a celebrarse en 1944. Durante estos años y los 50 el evento acabaría por consolidarse, ganando fama y sumando actividades. En los 60 se masifica, y en 1967 se celebra por primera vez en el parque del Retiro. Los años 80, con la llegada de la democracia a España, suponen un éxito para la Feria del Libro, y las buenas cifras se mantuvieron durante los años 90.

Cada años, cientos de expositores se dan cita en el Retiro para presentar sus novedades y apoyar sus publicaciones. Hay sesiones abiertas al público para charlar con escritores o editores, eventos dirigidos al público infantil y juvenil, y actividades enfocadas a la promoción de la lectura. Si tiene la ocasión de acudir, no dude en interesarse por los nuevos lanzamientos del mercado editorial o por buscar la dedicatoria de su autor favorito, para que le firme alguno de sus libros. Puede disfrutar paseando por el parque del Retiro, en un entorno natural, alejado del tráfico de la ciudad y rodeado de cultura.

Madrid Book Fair celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. It was organized for the first time in 1933 (April 23rd-29th). Although this is an annual event, it could not always be celebrated due to the Spanish Civil War and its postwar period. That is why we have come to 2013 celebrating its 72nd edition. At 1933 edition (first one), publishers set up 20 booths at Paseo de Recoletos, and accompanied the event by a Spanish theater festival. Famous people of the time met at the fair such as Niceto Alcalá Zamora, President of the Republic of Spain, several members of the government and many editors, journalists and writers. It became a success among the public at the time. After the postwar period, the fair will be held again in 1944. These years and the decade of 50s will see the eventual consolidation of the event, gaining fame and adding activities. The 60s made it become a mass event, and in 1967 was held for first time at its present location: ‘El Retiro’ park. The 80s, with the advent of democracy in Spain, were a real success for the book fair, and good figures remained during the 90s. The economic crisis has not been immune to the book sector, and in recent editions sales have fallen. Even so, the book fair is still successful and has established itself as one of the most important cultural events of the country. Each year, hundreds of exhibitors gather at the ‘El Retiro’ park to showcase their launch and support their publications.

A través de su festival, PHotoEspaña ofrece una ocasión extraordinaria para conocer proyectos fotográficos, videos e instalaciones de los fotógrafos y artistas visuales nacionales e internacionales más destacados así como el trabajo de nuevos creadores. A lo largo de las quince ediciones del festival, se han organizado más de 900 exposiciones en los principales museos, salas de exposiciones, centros de arte y galerías. Each year the Festival attracts more than seven hundred thousand people and receives acclaim from prestigious critics, making it the most popular cultural event in Spain. The Festival is an exceptional occasion for discovering images, videos and installations created by outstanding national and international photographers and visual artists. Since the first edition of the Festival, more than 900 exhibitions have been hosted in the city’s main museums, art centres and galleries. El Palacio Real de Madrid fue construido en el siglo XVIII, por orden de Felipe V, sobre un antiguo castillo musulmán. La planta es cuadrada con un gran patio central. Los jardines adyacentes son otro de los atractivos del palacio, así como todas sus fachadas. Existe un debate a la hora de enmarcarlo en un estilo, unos se inclinan más por el barroco y otros por el neoclásico. The Reina Sofia is one of the largest contemporary art museums in the world today. Puerta de Alcalá Se trata de uno de los monumentos más conocidos de Madrid. The Casa de Campo is Madrid’s largest green area, with ten restaurants situated in buildings that are replicas of Spain’s traditional, emblematic regional architecture. The 8th Edition of Madrid’s International Flamenco Festival presents an extensive program on which, once again, famous artists will meet with new flamenco talents on this must-seen event for flamenco lovers. Antonio Carmona compartirá escenario con el cantante israelí Pavlo Rosemberg para recorrer los ritmos del flamenco, el rock, el pop y los más étnicos. La cantidad de salas que ofrecen cine en V.O. en la capital es muy elevada. Aunque en los últimos años varios establecimientos míticos han ido cediendo el paso a los nuevos tiempos y se han visto obligados a echar el cierre, todavía son muchas las empresas que apuestan por que el cine no abandone el centro de la ciudad. La mayoría de estas salas, alejadas de los grandes centros comerciales, se encuentran en el entorno de Callao, Plaza de España y la Glorieta de Bilbao. En algunas se puede disfrutar de cine en versión original, destacando los cines Ideal y los que se encuentran en torno a Plaza de España.

En verano, tienes que visitar las terrazas de los alrededores de la plaza de Chueca, que siempre tienen buen ambiente. Y, por supuesto, si quieres conocer todo cuanto te ofrece la ciudad de Madrid más abierta, visítala durante la celebración del Orgullo Gay (última semana de junio). Chueca area, where all inhibitions have been cast aside to make way for fun and tolerance, and where you’ll find a whole host of wicked venues, techno discos and designer clubs. In fact this neighbourhood has always been a beacon of modernity, and was the birthplace of the famous “movida madrileña” (a countercultural movement of the 70s and 80s). And as well as being the favourite hangout of the gay and transsexual community, the streets in this area are becoming more and more popular with anyone looking for first-rate nightlife. In summer, it’s well worth visiting the outdoor terraces in the surroundings of the Plaza de Chueca square, where you’re always guaranteed to find a great atmosphere. And of course if you want to see for yourself everything that’s on offer in this most openly tolerant of cities, why not visit Madrid during Gay Pride Week (last week of June)? The event features open air concerts and shows, as well as a parade of floats and fancy dress, while the whole area is awash 48 with rainbow flags.

Designed 250 years ago, it invites visitors to enjoy a pleasant stroll through thousands of live plant species. Among its collections there is a herbarium with over one million specimens, a library and an archive of drawings, as well as an exhibition of 5,000 live plant species. Admission is 3€.

Just like in previous years, on 1st & 2nd June Madrid will welcome triathletes from all around the world in yet another thrilling weekend packed with excitement and a wide range of races. As well as hosting the elite and paratriathlon races, the program will also include Olympic and sprint distance races for both Age Groups and amateurs, giving everybody the chance of competing in this unique venue. In addition, the event will also feature the Spanish Junior and Youth National Series races. The ITU World Triathlon Series is an innovative series that allows the world’s top athletes to compete head-to-head on an ongoing basis. Expanding upon the previous single-day World Championship, the format features seven worldclass events and finishes with an exciting Grand Final. The 2013 ITU World Triathlon Series comes to Madrid June 1st and 2nd, featuring Age Group Sprint, Standard and Team, along with Elite Men and Women races.
