MADRID EN UN FIN DE SEMANA MADRID IN A WEEKEND O lo que es lo mismo: ¿qué ver en Madrid en dos días? esa es una de las grandes preguntas que nos llegan a Madrid Irresistible por parte de aquellos que quieren visitar Madrid y conocer los lugares, monumentos, museos, etc imprescindible en su escapada para hacer turismo por la capital. Si vas a estar 2 ó 3 días paseando por la capital nuestra propuesta no puede empezar en otro sitio que el llamado “Paseo del Arte”. En realidad su nombre es Paseo del Prado y va desde Atocha a Neptuno, reuniendo en apenas 750 metros tres museos impresdindibles: El Prado, el Reina Sofía y el Thyssen. No son los únicos atractivos culturales, en la zona también está CaixaForum y si es amante de la naturaleza, el Jardín Botánico o el Retiro están muy cerca. Prácticamente en el mismo lugar puede iniciar una ruta cultural por el Barrio de las Letras, visite las calles Huertas y Prado, el Congreso de los Diputados, y la Plaza de Santa Ana. Aproveche y tome alguna tapa en los locales cercanos. Casi sin darse cuenta habrá llegado a la Puerta del Sol, centro neurálgico de la ciudad. Desde este lugar puede empezar cualquier ruta, una histórica adentrándose en el Madrid de los Austrias, por las calles Arenal o Mayor, visitando la Plaza de la Villa, la Plaza Mayor, el Teatro Real y terminando en el Palacio Real . No olvide visitar las plazas y jardines que rodean el Palacio o la Catedral de la Almudena. Si tiene hambre, puede visitar el Mercado de San Miguel, y sus calles adyacentes o incluso bajar un poco más hasta el barrio de La Latina. Otro recorrido que puede iniciar desde la Puerta del Sol es el de las calles Preciados o Carmen, hasta la Gran Vía, y contemplar el Madrid más contemporáneo, las tiendas de moda y los barrios más alternativos: Malasaña, Chueca. Baje hasta Cibeles, y siga hasta la Puerta de Alcalá aquí también puede adentrarse en las zonas más clásicas y las tiendas de moda más cotizada en el barrio de Salamanca. No nos queremos dejar atrás otro recorrido desde la Gran Vía, este hacia la Plaza de España y luego hacia el Parque del Oeste donde, probablemente quede sorprendido por algo que no se espera: un templo egipcio instalado en el centro de Madrid, y por cierto, con unas vistas maravillosas hacia el oeste. Perfecto para la puesta de sol. 6

What to see in Madrid in two days? That is one of the main questions that we receive from visitors here in Madrid Irresistible. Madrid has plenty of activities and places to be visited: monuments , museums, on walk tours, parks, shopping places, etcetera. People usually spend 2 or 3 days walking through the capital so our proposal is to start your visit at the known area of : “Paseo del Arte” . Actually its name is Paseo del Prado and it goes from Atocha to Neptuno , just a 750 meters walk where the three great museums of the city are located: Prado , Reina Sofia and Thyssen . They are not the only cultural attractions of the area, where you can also find CaixaForum, or in case you love nature: the Botanical Garden and “El Retiro” are very close. Quite close to the great museums, you may continue your visit with our cultural route. through the Barrio de las Letras , go along Huertas and Prado streets , see the Spanish Parlament, and stop by Plaza de Santa Ana and in case you are hungry enjoy any of the tapas at the restaurants around. Almost without realizing of it… you have reached the Puerta del Sol , the heart of the city. From here you can start any route , a historic walk into the Madrid de los Austrias , by Mayor and Arenal streets , visiting Plaza de la Villa , Plaza Mayor, the Royal Theatre and ending at the Royal Palace. Be sure to visit the squares and gardens surrounding the Palace and the Almudena Cathedral . If you’re hungry now , do not doubt it: Mercado de San Miguel is your place, but also all the streets around offer a wide variety of Spanish gastronomy. If you are a gastronomy lover: go dowh to “La Latina “ district. Another route that can be started from the Puerta del Sol is going up at Preciados or Carmen streets towards the Gran Via. This is the modern Madrid, with trendy shops, and alternative neighborhoods such as Malasaña or Chueca (gay district). Go down the Gran Vía until you reach the Cibeles square, and then the Puerta de Alcalá, a perfect place to go shopping around at the Barrio de Salamanca. Serrano is the Street for those who want the last fashion designs. We do not want to make you miss the opportunity to go to the other side of the Gran Vía, and go down towards Plaza de España and then visit Parque del Oeste, a big park where you will find an unexpected monument: an Egyptian temple just in the center of Madrid, and by the way, with great views to the west. A great place to see the sunset. 7

El gran encargo para decorar la Biblioteca de la Hispanic Society llevó a Sorolla a recorrer todo el país, en busca de lo auténtico y más pintoresco del carácter español. Durante estos viajes que tenían como finalidad encontrar la inspiración fidedigna para sus grandes cuadros, adquirió una pequeña, pero muy interesante, colección de indumentaria y joyería popular, que ahora se completa con la donación de la Familia Pons-Sorolla.

FERNANDO ALONSO COLLECTION Fernando Alonso Collection es la muestra más ambiciosa que se ha realizado nunca sobre un piloto de Fórmula 1. Más de doscientos setenta objetos integran esta colección, en la que destacan los monoplazas de Fórmula 1, fórmulas de promoción y buena parte de los karts que han acompañado al piloto asturiano en su carrera deportiva. Esta extraordinaria colección privada se complementa con la exhibición de audiovisuales, espacios interactivos y actividades paralelas que aportan una completa perspectiva de lo que supone la Fórmula 1, pero sobre todo dan a conocer la figura de Fernando Alonso, uno de los deportistas españoles más importantes de la historia..

A esto se suman los grandes cuadros de tipos que pintaría, principalmente con una intención documental. Los paisajes, de Castilla, Ávila, El Roncal, Valencia o Jeréz y las fotografías que fue adquiriendo y coleccionando durante todo este proceso creativo. SOROLLA: “FIESTA” AND “COLOUR” In 1911 Sorolla signed a contract with Archer M. Huntington to paint “a series of landscape paintings of the provinces highlighting typical traditional dress” intended to be exposed at the Hipanic Society in New York. As Sorolla always preferred to paint from life, he decided to travel around the country and discover for himself the kinds of folk with their local traditional dress and the different landscapes with changing nuances of light he planned to use in the series of paintings. These voyages of discovery took him eight years, during which Sorolla built up his collection. Fiesta and Colour brings together the paintings on regional themes by Joaquín Sorolla Bastida and the traditional popular costumes conserved in the Museo Sorolla, to highlight the research into the world of popular tradition the artist was engaged in between 1912 and 1919.

FERNANDO ALONSO COLLECTION Fernando Alonso Collection is the most ambitious show that has ever been held about a Formula One driver. More than two hundred seventy objects make up this collection, of which the highlights include Formula One single-seaters, formula feeders and many of the karts which the Asturian racing driver has driven in his sporting career. This extraordinary private collection is complemented by audiovisual presentations, interactive spaces and parallel activities that offer a complete perspective on Formula One racing and that help you get to know Fernando Alonso, one of the most important Spanish athletes in history.

IDEA: PINTURA – FUERZA Los artistas de Idea: Pintura Fuerza se enfrentan al replanteamiento de conceptos como ‘Academia’ o ‘Tradición’, que no se desarrollan como un pesado dogma repetitivo sino como la toma de energía desde la cual trabajar contemporáneamente.

Cezanne La pintura de Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), considerado una figura fundamental de del arte moderno, llega a España con esta exposición monográfica, la primera dedicada a él en los últimos treinta años. La exposición indaga en los dos elementos claves en su producción: los paisajes y las naturalezas muertas. Cézanne pinta sus paisajes al aire libre, tal y como hacían los impresionistas, aunque sin preocuparse por reflejar en ellos ningún referente temporal (estaciones, horas, …). Mientras, sus bodegones presentan tensión entre los distintos elementos, apoyándose los unos en los otros sin ningún tipo de equilibrio.

Cezanne Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), considered to be the father of modern art. This is the first monographic exhibition on the artist to be organised in Spain in the last thirty years. It will explore the relationship between two genres to which Cézanne devoted an equally intense focus: landscapes and still life.

Su mirada se dirige así hacia algunos de los representantes más significativos de las vanguardias históricas europeas (como Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso…) y de sus relecturas posteriores estadounidenses (De Kooning, Motherwell, Johns…). Sin ser ajenos a otras épocas y a otras geografías culturales. Miradas que no se plantean ya desde la mimesis o la búsqueda de la originalidad, sino desde la aspiración de la práctica pictórica como proceso intelectual y de construcción del sujeto. IDEA: PAINTING-FORCE The artists of Idea: Painting-Force take a new approach to concepts such as Academia and Tradition, developing them not as weighty and repetitive dogma but rather as a source of energy from which to work contemporarily. Their gaze tends to focus on some of the most significant representatives of Europe’s historical avant-garde movements (such as Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso…) and also on subsequent rereadings by North American artists (De Kooning, Motherwell, Johns…). However, the artists do not distance themselves from other periods and other cultural geographies.Their gazes arise not from mimesis or from the search for originality, but from the aspiration to make pictorial practice an intellectual process and a process by which to construct the subject.

Like the Impressionists, Cézanne painted his landscapes outdoors but there is no sign of seasons or times. In contrast, in his still lifes, the artist included the changes and dynamics characteristic of nature, with objects that normally convey stability leaning against each other in a precarious equilibrium.

Dentro de la misma región de Madrid existen dos estaciones de esquí: Valdesquí y Navacerrada, en plena sierra madrileña, y un complejo deportivo cubierto, Xanadú, con la pista cubierta de esquí más grande de Europa. Este último complejo, SnowZone, en Arroyomolinos, cuenta con dos pistas que suman 350 metros esquiables. Su principal atractivo radica en la posibilidad de esquiar en pleno verano, cuando las temperaturas pueden alcanzar en el exterior los 40ºC. Se encuentra en Arroyomolinos, al sur de Madrid, a menos de media hora en coche. También se puede llegar en autobús desde la estación de Príncipe Pío. La estación del Puerto de Navacerrada cuenta con diez kilómetros de pistas esquiables, gran parte de ellos dentro de un programa de recuperación de la estación, por lo que de manera habitual, durante este año, mantienen abiertos unos 4 kilómetros de pistas de esquí alpino. Se encuentra a unos 50 minutos en coche del centro de Madrid, circulando por la A-6 hasta Collado Villalba y desde allí usando la M-601. También se puede llegar en tren de Cercanías (Línea C9, estación Puerto de Navacerrada) o en

Recientemente han añadido a su oferta el “Park Center” para los amantes más extremos del snowboard y el esquí. Todas estas estaciones cuentan con servicio de alquiler de equipo por lo que no quedan excusas para aprovechar la nieve de Madrid y disfrutar de la misma. There are three places to do ski or snowboard near Madrid and the three of them are quite close to the city center, not further than an hour trip. The region of Madrid is home for two ski resorts: Valdesquí and Puerto de Navacerrada. Besides the ski resorts, you can also have the chance to visit Europe’s largest indoor ski complex: “Madrid SnowZone” at Xanadu Shopping Center. Madrid SnowZone in placed in Arroyomolinos, south of Madrid has two ski slopes, a total of 350 metres skiable meters. Its main attraction is the chance to ski during summer, when outdoor temperatures may reach 40 oC (over 100 oF). Xanadu Shopping Center is in the south of Madrid , less than a half hour drive . You may get there also by bus, from Principe Pio bus station. Puerto de Navacerrada ski resort has ten kilometers of ski slopes , many of them under a recovery program that only allow them to have around 4 km of ski slopes open to the public during this year. It is approximately 50 minutes drive from the downtown Madrid, driving by A6 highway to Collado Villalba and them going through the M601 road up to the ski resort. Plaza de España is one of the largest squares in the city and placed where the Gran Via ends. Right in the center stands a monument to Miguel de Cervantes. Puerta de Alcalá Se trata de uno de los monumentos más conocidos de Madrid. Chueca area, where all inhibitions have been cast aside to make way for fun and tolerance, and where you’ll find a whole host of wicked venues, techno discos and designer clubs. In fact this neighbourhood has always been a beacon of modernity, and was the birthplace of the famous “movida madrileña” (a countercultural movement of the 70s and 80s). And as well as being the favourite hangout of the gay and transsexual community, the streets in this area are becoming more and more popular with anyone looking for first-rate nightlife. In summer, it’s well worth visiting the outdoor terraces in the surroundings of the Plaza de Chueca square, where you’re always guaranteed to find a great atmosphere. And of course if you want to see for yourself everything that’s on offer in this most openly tolerant of cities, why not visit Madrid during Gay Pride Week (last week of June)? The event features open air concerts and shows, as well as a parade of floats and fancy dress, while the whole area is awash 44 with rainbow flags.

QUE HACER WHAT TO DO La ciudad de Madrid ofrece numerosas posibilidades para no parar. teatralia ElFestival Internacional de Arte Escénicas para Niños y Jóvenes de la Comunidad de Madrid alcanza este año la mayoría de edad al alcanzar este año su decimoctava edición. Este festival acoge en Madrid a las mejores compañías del mundo especializadas en teatro para público infantil y juvenil, con producciones que abarcan todos los géneros: danza, música, circo, teatro o títeres. El festival recorrerá en total 35 teatros de varias localidades de la Comunidad de Madrid que podrán disfrutar de las mejores producciones, algunas inéditas en España, para el público infantil y juvenil. Teatralia ha logrado consolidarse como el festival de referencia para el teatro infantil y juvenil y este año, más que nunca, destaca por la variedad artística de las producciones que se representarán por todo Madrid. Existen producciones de hasta 12 paises (sin contar España), de lugares tan lejanos como Argentina o Suecia que compartirán escenario con 9 producciones nacionales y que en total presentarán 19 espectáculos diferenciados.

La programación de Teatralia está dividida de modo que los padres pueden decidir que función ver según la edad de los más pequeños. Hay espectáculos para bebes de apenas seis meses, pero también teatro para jóvenes no tan pequeños. Y entre tanta oferta escénica también se puede elegir. Hay producciones protagonizadas por títeres, otras en las que no podremos parar de reir, algunas centradas en la danza, o en la música e incluso están las que apuestan por espectáculos circenses (malabares, clown, …). También están los que se salen de lo habitual y ofrecen un concierto pop teatralizado o teatro gestual. Por si se queda con ganas de más, también puede visitar la exposición “Vida Acuática” con objetos para compañías de teatro, hechos a partir de elementos reciclados y que enmarcada dentro de la programación del festival. TEATRALIA (Madrid’s International Performing Arts Festival for Children and Youth just turned 18 this consolidating the festival as a reference for theatrical companies specialized in permorming arts for kids. Madrid hosts an unique festival for young audiences, with productions of all genres: dance, music, circus, theater or puppets. The festival will be on in a total of 35 different theaters all around the región of Madrid, with some shows that have never been seen before in Spain and also many theatrical releases. Toledo Conocida como “ciudad de las tres culturas”, debido a la convivencia durante siglos de cristianos, árabes y judíos.
