Watson

By Richard Aldhous Photos shutterstock.com I Interview Hub

There may not be a more beloved actress on the planet than Emma Watson. Having endeared herself to millions of fans as Hermione in the Harry Potter films, she has embarked on an intrepid new life on and off the screen.

will be seen this February in the art house thriller, COLONIA, directed by Germany‘s Oscar-winning Florian Gallenberger. Based on horrific events that transpired during the brutal 1973 military coup in Chile, Watson plays Lena who risks her life by tracking down her boyfriend (Daniel Bruhl) who has been adducted by Chile‘s secret police and taken to a secret camp where opponents of the junta are tortured and murdered. In addition, the 25-year-old Watson has recently completed filming The Circle, a thriller co-starring Tom Hanks set for release this Autumn. Emma Watson is currently single following her „horrendous“ split with her rugby player ex-boyfriend, Matt

After graduating from prestigious Brown University, she feels ready to take on the world. Already we‘ve seen her addressing the United Nations General Assembly on gender inequality, interviewing Noble prize-winning women‘s rights activist Malala, and working in a variety of films that demonstrated her commitment to becoming a serious dramatic actress. Emma Watson is fully invested in the process of becoming a very

it‘s always flattering to be in the thoughts of my fans. I needed, however, to leave Hermione behind and move forward.“ ON BEING COMFORTABLE IN HER OWN SKIN „I only recently learned to feel comfortable in my skin. The sad thing is that nobody can teach you anything: only learn from your experiences. I grew up working on the set of Harry Potter, which was its own little world and very isolated from reality. All during that time I felt the constant desire to be accepted and to feel normal.“ ON GOING TO AMERICA AND STUDYING AT BROWN UNIVERSITY

Fame is not something I have always felt comfortable with.

„My parents have helped me in terms of keeping my life very down to earth and I‘ve tried to live as normally as I can, attending university and creating a life away from my film career. Going to university enabled me to define my identity apart from my work and all the attention.“ „When you‘re making big movies and being chauffeured everywhere that‘s a very strange and isolating kind of life. At university, I enjoyed being treated like everyone else and meeting people who have no interest in celebrities or films or anything like that. That‘s been very important to me. You also need to live and be part of the real world if you‘re going to grow as an individual and add more layers to your work as an actress.“ ON HER MOTHER „I’m lucky I was raised to believe that my opinion at the dinner table was valuable. My mum and I spoke as loudly as my brothers. She was a working single mother for a while. She set me an example that was more important than being there 100% of the time. She was a woman who valued herself. Seeing her having purpose and feeling good made me happy as a child.“ ON HER FATHER „My dad found himself alone with my younger brother (Alex) and I for the first time. This was a whole new thing for him. So he did it in the only way he knew how, by involving us in everything he liked: fishing, cricket, tennis, books and just, you know, ‚adventuring.‘ As a result, I wasn’t aware there were ‚activities for boys‘ and ‚activities for girls.‘ It wasn’t: ‚This is for Emma, and this is for Alex.‘ I learnt it all: to tie flies, to fish, to bowl. I have an excellent bowling arm!“

Building on the House’s adoration of delicate femininity, decadent elegance and masterly craftsmanship, Ralph & Russo’s new collection heralds Spring; that promise for renewal and frisson of youth. All is dreamlike and weightless, echoed in billowing crêpe capes, airy bell sleeves and clouds of gazar. Tender ribbons of organza in powdery shades are pin-tucked into geometric waves, cascading over mighty corolla trains – light as butterfly wings. Erogenous is the waist; a defined line wherefrom abundant volumes unfurl. Peplums, architectural and graphic, bring a modern definition to the quintessential hourglass of the 1950s. And corseted bustiers gesture at pin-up glamour, sharpening silhouettes beneath sheer, diaphanous robes. The shoulders are aphrodisiacs, at times gracefully bared by graphic and precise cut-outs in fluid kimonos, at others enveloped by infinitely fragile feather boleros. 46

Couture

In dazzling masterpieces of intricate technique, vast surfaces are fully adorned, yet retaining an exquisite delicacy. Organza petal appliquĂŠ glistens with crystal dewdrops amidst three-dimensional silk threadwork. Micropaillettes underlayers shimmer through geometric cutouts, recalling the iridescence of natural grey pearls. And crystal drops shower column dresses with effervescent sparkle. Hand-painted peonies and tulips in sapphire, blush pink and lavender grey flow like wild grass in a continuous ink line with multiple densities, evoking Chinese ancestral calligraphy. Bold strokes that at times are encrusted like jewels, at others diffuse like the summer mist. Spiderwebs of Chantilly lace in dreamcatcher dresses trickle over the body, sometimes spun to the floor. Every now and then a petal or feather gets caught, trembling in the scented midnight breeze. Spring/Summer 2016 brings a new aesthetic, reconciling a regal demeanour with a douceur de vivre in a sublimely subtle blend of tradition and modernity. www.ralphandrusso.com

Heaven for the best perfumers Their names are now written on uniform, unadorned glass perfume bottles. But Malle does not accept just anybody into his luxury team. Only those who really are proficient at their craft and have already proven their skills are permitted to work together with the grand master to develop their ideas into consummate perfection. The prices of exclusive raw materials are of no importance, there is no time pressure, unusual combinations of ingredients are permitted and even welcomed. The final product is exclusive, always extravagant and expensive. Those who are not interested in a mainstream product will find the exceptional in the Frédéric Malle collection. And the fragrances are true to Malle‘s motto – „Luxury is not about the packaging but about the content.“

Luxury Life MAGAZINE met Frédéric Malle in Mayfair, London, for an interview: You live in New York. Do Americans have a different approach to perfume than Europeans? „Americans always need rules for everything. They want someone to tell them how, where and when something is to be used.“ In your opinion, where should one apply perfume? „When a fragrance has been developed and refined for a very long time and it then appears in the shops, I don‘t view it as my job to tell anyone how they‘re to use it. It‘s much too personal. I‘ve heard that some people swear by spraying their perfume behind their knees. It‘s supposed to then gradually waft upwards. This may work if a woman has a very short boyfriend (laughs).“ You have recently sold your business to Estée Lauder? „That‘s the price you have to pay if you want to expand. And we want to expand. Many people aren‘t familiar with my fragrances yet – that‘s just how it is if you operate in a niche market. Now it‘s the right time to become more well-known. Lauder can give us a great amount of power.“ How does a perfume become successful? „The Giorgio fragrance from the 1980s is a good example. It was very difficult to get hold of but everyone had heard about it and everyone wanted to have it. An enormous success, without extensive distribution channels and without any advertising at all.“ Just based on word of mouth. A perfume must create a sensation and be memorable, then it has the potential to be successful.“ 50

Luxury Life MAGAZINE traf Frédéric Malle im Londoner Mayfair zum Interview: Sie leben in New York.

Stress, lack of sleep, an unbalanced diet and too much UV radiation – just a few of the factors that damage our skin and cause it to age prematurely. The solution is the new DAY CREAM from the SENSAI CELLULAR PERFORMANCE line. It contains exceptionally effective protective components, is suitable for every skin type and any age and, in a gentle way, it gives back to our facial skin precisely what it has been deprived of – its very own natural beauty and radiance.

Hefeextrakt stärkt die Stressabwehrproteine, während der Extrakt aus weissem Senfsamen den Abbau dieser schützenden Proteine other weapons against the damage to our skin – such as yeast

The green avenues with their magnificent facades dating back to the colonial era are wonderful places to take a stroll, interspersed with enchanted parks with refreshing lakes and a stunningly charming old town with all its bustling lanes and flickering neon signs. Light and shade, the traditional and the modern, bureaucracy and avantgarde live just as closely side-by-side in Hanoi as the inhabitants of the city. And in the centre of it all is the Opera House which was built in the style of the old Paris Opera House around one hundred years ago during the French occupation and which, since then, has delighted audiences with world-famous productions on its stage. Apart from this, the stage that is Hanoi is an incomparable, highly contrasting blend of colonial flair, modern architecture and effervescent East Asian market atmosphere which has remained intact especially in the old quarter with its „36 streets“. Centuries ago, the city‘s 36 trade guilds based here supplied

HoiAn THE NAM HAI HOI AN VIETNAM

By Patricia Schweizer I Uwe Herzog Translation Louise Mawbey

It is one of the most elegant resorts in Asia – THE NAM HAI, a half an hour‘s drive to the south of the Vietnamese city Da Nang. Surrounded by a fascinating hilly landscape, idyllic islands, antique burial grounds and the incomparable flair of the old trading port of Hoi An, discerning holidaymakers find genuine treasure – themselves. The Restaurant Terrace

A slight haze still hovers above the sea as we complete our first circuits of the jogging track which passes through the tropical garden encircling The Nam Hai luxury hotel. The breath of the plants reflected in the morning light of the extensive pool area, the well-tendered park, the old Buddhist temple – everything is in perfect harmony and seems to have been planned with extreme care and attention. A temple in a holiday resort? Yes, this too is part of the extraordinary oasis in the heart of central Vietnam, where the architects have applied the principles of Feng Shui to perfection. In Vietnamese, Feng Shui is called Phong Thuy and it follows the ancient Asian teachings concerning outer and inner balance. The genuine Buddhist pagoda, which has stood on this site for a thousand years and has recently been restored with a great deal of attention to detail, honours ancestors and is said to ward off evil spirits. In The Nam Hai, time-honoured traditions such as this blend in harmoniously with extremely modern design and luxurious comfort. This also applies in particular to the resort‘s 100 villas, which

FINE LIVING I nterior N ews By Andreas Hofstätter

STARDUST by JAB ANSTOETZ – The new star in the carpet sky. The designers and craftsmen have used a sure instinct for colours to create the latest collection from JAB ANSTOETZ Flooring. STARDUST fascinates with a true explosion of colours that thrill with subtly nuanced colour gradients and sophisticated progressions. This ingenious kind of colouration is rendered possible by the clever tuft technique with which the differently dyed yarns are processed. That certain extra brilliance is provided by the material used for the exclusive designs: the pile consists of spun viscose with a high degree of brilliance, lending the sophisticated carpets a silky shimmer.

The two- or three-colour gradients belong to the highlights of the collection. Here the desired colours can be selected individually. In a laborious procedure, the intermediate colours that correspond with the 42 basic colours are ascertained and brought together to achieve a harmonious overall colour gradient. Alongside the colours and measurements shown, the designs are also available in any other carpet dimensions and in line with your own colour wishes. The model from which the collection takes its name is the most sumptuous design by far. The great skill of the carpet masters from JAB ANSTOETZ Flooring is shown in the fine elaboration of its nuanced shades. Creating the model CITY LIGHTS also requires a lot of experience, owing to the special challenge of forming perfectly set loop sections in the smooth viscose. RAINBOW thrills with its perfectly executed colour gradients and fluent transitions. These and all other models of the collection are presented in the gorgeous STARDUST brochure – and of course in the showrooms of the JAB ANSTOETZ Group, where you can not only see but also feel the extraordinary carpet creations. www.jab.de

the world around him in a way that is not possible with words. For the artist, creativity sets no boundaries and there are no parameters or rules that have to be adhered to. His works are not planned. Instead, he gives free rein to his intuition and allows his ideas to spontaneously flow through his arm and his hand onto the canvas. His paintings reveal his bond with the spiritual world and they are not bound by the limitations of logic and sense. And the many faces to be seen in his pictures are a reflection of the jobs he had before becoming an artist, which all involved working with people. In 1986 Renato took cartoon classes in Lima, Peru, to which the artist attributes his ability to convey movement in his works. However, he does not view studying art as being indispensable. True creativity comes from within and Renato is convinced that art is a medium which allows everyone to express themselves in their own way.

Chalets PRIESTEREGG By Patricia Schweizer I Uwe Herzog Translation Louise Mawbey

If there was a „beauty contest“ for alpine villages, this one would be sure to receive first prize – Priesteregg, situated 1,100 m above sea level in the midst of the Tyrolean Alps, is the romantic mountain village of everyone‘s dreams. Accompany us as we visit the world that fairy tales are made of …

It is still relatively chilly as the morning sun casts its first rays across the mountain. Using a long match, my companion sets the wood in the fireplace alight. As I watch him I think to myself, „It‘s great that there are still some men who enjoy doing what has set us humans apart from the animal kingdom since time immemorial – the art of making fire.“ Here in Priesteregg, possibly the most beautiful mountain village in the Alps, the „back to the roots principle“ is still very much alive and kicking. As the logs of wood crackle softly in the fireplace, we enjoy the delicious breakfast which had been set on our table by quietly tiptoeing, friendly „woodland fairies“ while we were dozing ... The fire warms our backs and we open the window to let in the crystal clear mountain air which wafts across to us from the peaks of the surrounding limestone mountains. Somewhere up there, or so the story goes, an enormous treasure trove is hidden, guarded by a sinister beast. „Lots of young lads have tried to get their hands on it,“ explain the owners of Priesteregg, Renate and Hubert („Huwi“) Oberlader, with a twinkle in their eyes, „but no one has managed it yet.“ My companion pricks up his ears but, smilingly, I quickly point out that „We‘re here to relax!“ 100

Willy Bogner-Chalet Multi media room

Hotel

The Art of

Cosmetic Surgery By Sara Musinowski Translation Alex Danilova

When a sculptor shapes his sculptures, his hands are guided by an inner creative divine voice. Even the slightest lack of concentration can cause a permanent mistake and destroy his artwork forever. Just as a sculptor, a sensible aesthetic doctor works on a human body with similar artistic talent, along with detailed surgical knowledge on how to best shape the patient’s tissue individually and optimally. This requires high precision, refined perception, profound experience and great skills throughout the whole procedure. Dr. Dietz is a specialized gynecologist but his fascination with aesthetic surgery

For the last 25 years he has focused his expertise and dedicated his work towards the wellbeing and happiness of his female and male patients at his “Medicine & Beauty Institute for Aesthetic Surgery”. Parallel to his Institute, This, along with his passion for aesthetics, is ultimately the secret to his success story. It is therefore no surprise that he has developed throughout the years, together with a dermatologist and a pharmacist, a skincare line, which he initially offered only to his patients as a post-treatment therapy. These creams have become very popular with his patients, reaching a cult status among its users. This enthusiasm has consequently resulted in Dr. Dietz’s decision to make this skin care line available to the public.

Touch the Sky – Free-spirit lifestyle in a residential tower. The real estate agency Mattheusser Immobilien has the exclusive brokerage rights for the residential properties in Frankfurt’s new PRAEDIUM residential tower - a new style of interior for high-rise living is evolving. Right in the heart of Frankfurt’s Europaviertel, the Nassauische Heimstätte property management and development company is building the 19-storey PRAEDIUM residential tower. “The owners of residential tower apartments appreciate the opportunity to live in the middle of an urban environment while also enjoying a green, almost countryside landscape on their balconies and terraces,” reports Cornelia Mattheusser, Managing Director of Mattheusser Immobilien. She is convinced that this also has an impact on the interiors. The view is the key element. “You can let your gaze wander, enjoy the horizon, watch as beautiful weather approaches or try to catch a rainbow.” The interiors in the residential tower are, on no account, to have a “country cottage feel”. Warm shades of grey, beige, green and blue are indicative of status and good taste. Art déco is enjoying something of a renaissance – an apartment should resemble an “artistic synthesis”. The atmosphere is clearly designed to take the citizens of the digital age back into the tangible world. Nothing in a residential tower apartment is as important as the balcony or the terrace. And, in keeping with the motto of artistic synthesis, “It must look exactly like the interior of the apartment.” “Touch the Sky” - this motto stands for the high-end lifestyle of the residents of PRAEDIUM in the heart of the Europaviertel. www.praedium-frankfurt.de I www.mattheusser.de

In my 20 years as a smoker, I have had the chance to meet my fair share of cigar makers and spend time philosophising with them. The majority were people whose families had been in the tobacco business for generations. Not so the enterprising and youthfullooking Litto Gomez, whom I met during a cigar evening. Litto, born in Spain 61 years ago, emigrates to Uruguay with

Cigars From now on, Litto looks after production in the Dominican

Republic; his beautiful wife Ines, operating out of Miami, takes care of marketing, sales and distribution. This has been the situation

to date, the one difference being that their son Tony is now also involved in the business.

Nowadays the brand La Flor Dominicana no longer represents mild cigars; on the contrary - some of the strongest cigars on the

market carry the cigar band of «LFD». And not only that: Litto has managed, as the only manufacturer worldwide, to patent a cigar shape: the «chisel». The cigar resembles a tapered chisel. As a cigar aficionado, even if you think you have seen quite a bit, this shape will certainly catch your attention. And there are in fact three ways of preparing the «chisel»: Classic style with a cutter and a clean cut. If you use the puncher, you place it on the end piece and pierce only from one side (this makes for a totally unexpected smoking experience, according to Litto). Litto himself does not use any cutting tools and only presses the two ends together until the head of the cigar opens, and he enjoys his «chisel» like this.

Bicentenary of the Chronograph – Louis Moinet lights up the night. Paris, 1816: Louis Moinet invents the chronograph – an artistic and technological masterpiece beating at a rhythm of 216,000 vibrations per hour, designed to observe the orbits of the planets in the heavens. Geneva, 2016: Louis Moinet lights up the stars by presenting Memoris, the first chronograph-watch, clothed with light. For the first time ever, the chronograph function has been shifted to the dial, positioning the chronograph not simply as a complication, but as a central component of the watch. The first limited edition marks the start of a series of commemorative pieces dedicated to the bicentenary of the invention of the chronograph. The “Memoris 200th Anniversary” uses a fixed graver engraving technique that is unprecedented in the history of watchmaking. Each star is worked on individually; never before has there been a starry sky with such a natural sparkle. The “Memoris 200th Anniversary” is available in 18K white gold as limited edition of 20 pieces. www.louismoinet.com

Atom‘s unmannerly brother. The Nomad, as the predecessor of the Atom, opens up a whole new dimension to having fun on four wheels. Where the Atom is to road and track, the Nomad is to road and off it. Whether it‘s a gravel track, a WRC rally stage, a green lane, a desert or just a grassy field the Nomad calls this home. And could this be the coolest car on the road? A modern buggy designed for the rough and tough of the wild but just as home in the city and just as much fun. The Nomad says tough wherever it is. Because it is. Centre of the Nomad is, of course, it‘s structure. The Ariel
