HISTORY From the nation’s largest industrial center to one of the most exciting cultural hubs in Massachusetts, Lowell’s Canalway Cultural District (CCD) is defined by a thriving arts community, weekly cultural activities, special events and festivals, and an array of dining destinations. At the heart of the district is the Lowell National Historical Park (LNHP) which interprets Lowell’s industrial, cultural and social history through museum, trolley and canal boat tours and other seasonal activities. Most of Lowell’s historic mill, commercial and civic buildings have been preserved and restored and are now home to artists, residents and new businesses.

ARTS & CULTURE Lowell’s top cultural attractions are located in the CCD including 15 public art pieces, nine public parks, over 20 annual festivals and events as well as countless concerts, a professional and community theater companies, art exhibits and sporting events.



DINING More than 40 restaurants are within walking distance to art and performance venues in the Canalway Cultural District and offer a wide variety of dining options to satisfy your personal tastes and budget. Enjoy a relaxing evening with cocktails and dessert for a pleasurable experience in the District.

FESTIVALS & EVENTS In all seasons, the Canalway Cultural District is alive with festivals, special events and family activities. From historic walks and talks to ethnic festivals and from heart-stopping whitewater rafting to the annual, three-day Lowell Folk Festival, Spring and Summer burst with outdoor excitement. Fall and winter also have a full schedule of events that includes Halloween fun, City of Lights holiday parade and celebration and WinterFest along with UML Division I sports.
