With all the cyclical conversations this year, you'd think with this issue we'd be packing our bags and heading for calmer waters: "Print is dead", they proclaim, "The music industry can't survive", we're told. And all the while, as I absorb news-piece-after-thinkpiece about the fact that we're all screwed, and nobody cares about paying for music anymore, I can't help but feel a bit excited. In my little world of optimism I hope next year sees these conversations veer away from the stoic EMMY THE GREAT
and stale rehashing of how it used to be, and towards the incomprehensibly huge range of opportunity and ideas embracing the industry right now. I don't know if there's ever been a more exciting time to be part of this rapidly changing scene. So let's have a bit of a celebration for the constantly changing and endlessly innovative art form we call music. We're not going anywhere just yet.

Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen have described Kiasmos as a kind of modern classical project; electronic music that is layered and complex, weaving together like the very best classical pieces. It’s easy to work out why when you listen to Looped, with its six minutes of exploration, crescendo and hypnotic beats. Twinkling piano meets the harsher beats and warming strings, making for the most atmospheric and beautiful track I’ve quite possibly ever heard. Jess Partridge LiS 06

It had me as excited as when I first heard Liars and Mclusky and listening to it now it still makes me want to smash my head through a disco ball. Just like it did last January. Danny Wright
It takes a pretty extraordinary song to withstand 300+ plays in eight months. Not only has Coffee survived my obsessive-compulsive listening habits, it still cocoons me gently in its sinuous groove and sends me swooning with its euphoric kiss-off - the way it did the day I discovered it. When you re-appraise your resolutions for 2014, how happy do you reckon you’ll be? Probably nowhere near as thrilled as Deers’ Carlotta Cosials and Ana Garcia Perrote. At the beginning of the year, they set themselves the goal of securing a rhythm section by September, with the aim of playing a few guerrilla gigs in their hometown of Madrid. “We actually did a mini-tour of Europe in September…” Perrote marvels, before she, Cosials and bassist Ade Martin collapse into giggles for approximately the tenth time in ten minutes. “We have done more things than we thought we were going to do by far,” Cosials confirms, once composed, adding awestruck, “In our whole lives.” To say the four-piece – completed by drummer Amber Grimbergen – have had a decent year, is putting it mildly. On the strength of two 7" singles released via Lucky Number Music, they’ve won over most of the major UK and US music publications, opened for The Libertines in Paris, and played London on four separate
occasions, including once in support of their heroes Black Lips. Pretty incredible considering that this time 12 months ago Deers was little more than a pipedream. “We started the band because we admired bands so much,” Perrote recalls. “I mean, we probably met at some gig, so all our world is centred around music. It was like, ‘Wow, can you imagine being on the stage, doing your stuff?’ just, like, dreaming. So we started playing covers and we liked it so much we said, “Ok, we need to write songs!” “We love garage,” continues Cosials, adding with a laugh, “Like rock ‘n’ roll, but dirty.” So, inspired by Black Lips, Shannon and the Clams, Dead Girls and Mac DeMarco, the duo wrote the two tracks that became their debut release, Demo. The instant the songs appeared on SoundCloud, the music press came knocking. “It was like a chain,” Perrote recounts in disbelief. “It came in one place, and then another, and then another...” It’s no stretch to see why everyone was instantly smitten. Oozing insouciant cool, the lazy groove of
“...YOU ENGLISH GUYS DON’T DANCE!” Bamboo finds Cosials and Perrote taking turns delivering romantic demands over tremolo-drenched chords, while psychedelic-laced garage jam Trippy Gum celebrates a messy night out, where everyone gets leathered on gin and pukes in the cab home. Their latest two tracks Between Cans and Castigadas en el granero - are as thrillingly loose-limbed, confirming that Martin and Grimbergen are settling into the creative process just fine. Speaking to the band in their rehearsal room, they’re clearly close-knit, and as convivial as their compositions. It’s this total lack of artifice, coupled with their irrepressible vivacity, that makes them such a joyful live proposition. “We can't give a feel-good gig if we don't feel this energy with the audience,” Perrote explains. “We take things very personally. Like, I [once] saw this guy on the front row and he was not smiling, and I was like, ‘Oh shit!’” “But you English guys don’t dance!” Cosials chastises. “In Spain, everyone’s
crowd-surfing, and people are getting crazy, and you… You are more polite!” Buttoned-up we may be, but we’re already looking forward to welcoming them back in January, during their European tour. After that, they’ll be stopping by SXSW before heading back into the studio in April to record their full-length debut, writing for which is already well underway. “You’re gonna love it,” Cosials teases. Having decimated their targets this year, surely they’re setting their sights higher for 2015? “Our resolution is to have a tour manager,” Perrote replies. “We’re driving the opposite way here, and we’re so scared! And we want to make a good album, of course.” “We don’t want to change the world with Deers,” Cosials smiles, “We just want to make good music. "There's no point in lying about stuff, you know, dollars and bitches. Right now, it's pound coins and macaroni cheese," sighs West Londoner, Aleksandra Denton, prodding at the oily ramekin of pasta and sauce in front of her. "This tastes exactly like garlic bread," she declares scrunching her nose and grinning broadly. It's something of a
portentous remark, not because we'll both be reaching for the Wrigleys later, but because it becomes obvious during our chat, that Shura - or Shu as she's been known since childhood - will never be the type to write songs about getting paper, or celebrating big big booties. Born in Moscow to a Russian mum and British dad, young Shu would often
dance along to her parents' Elton John records, but her journey to this point, an album deal with a heavyweight major, gained off the back of a clutch of swooning, R&B torch songs, has been beset by difficulties. "Family things. Relationship things. Friend things. And I'm still exploring all that," she explains. After a string of collaborations with the electronic producer Hiatus in 2011, came the eventual tidal wave of adoration which swept in with her solo debut, Touch this year. "Bad things happen but you re-appropriate them and turn them into joyous things." she smiles. The track's smoochy video has - quite literally - touched nearly 3,000,000 viewers since premiering in March, but she can still sip a coffee in a crowded restaurant without anyone batting an eyelid. It's a far cry from "the craziness" of Twitter, where Chloe Grace Moretz and Dev Hynes have been singing her praises and Jessie Ware sounded her out to rework one of her recent singles. "I was shitting myself," she replies, wide-eyed, when I ask her about being handed the stems to Say You Love Me. "I tweeted her as part of a conversation she was having with someone else. Then she just went, 'YOU! I love your songs.' Luckily her label were really big fans too. "Throughout our lengthy discussion, Shu will remove her black beanie, ruffle her hair and replace it again, with care and precision - it's not really a nervous tic but it is subtly characteristic of an artist with a meticulous eye for detail, whose pained but perfumed pop song Just Once, the follow-up to Touch, pricked the ears of just about every label A&R on the planet in the summer. She plumped for Polydor in the end, and recently offered up the pacier, more upbeat Indecision from her as-yet-unannounced debut album. Smeared in the glittery fingerprints of iconic 80s vocalists like Mariah Carey,
Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, Indecision's bursts of spiky floorfilling synthesizers and heart-swelling beats are mellowed by Shu's softly pooling utterances. It's the complete pop song: a perfect balance of lush retro disco and the sparing contemporary tastes of Jessie Ware, Blood Orange et al. I mention a recent Independent article on rising female producers, which claimed that Shura is on course to be the first woman to self-produce a debut album on a major label. "I can't believe that's true," she exclaims. "That would be awesome, it just makes me even more determined to be the first." Does she identify, broadly speaking, with the other producers mentioned in the piece at all? "You're kind of lumped together," she begins tentatively. "I make really different music to Låpsley and to TĀLĀ, and you wouldn't believe how many articles there are that compare me to them. They're brilliant and it is nice to be unified but it is also irrelevant. You don't see any articles that are like, 'Ooh look at these four guys." I suggest the piece borders on fetishisation, Shu agrees, but adds: "These things have to be written and made a fuss of until people get bored and accept this as the norm." The interviews comes to a sudden end, as Shu realizes she's late for a film screening, but before we part ways, I ask her if there's anything she wishes she was better at: "I'm really aiming to get better at writing when I feel fine, because it's really exhausting to only write when you're feeling down." The way Shura's glowing future is shaping up, we might end up getting that song about dollar bills and big booty after all. The slim clutch of Trust Fund tracks that have been sporadically revealed for public consumption - the beautifully fragile Don’t Let Them Begin EP, the stuttering sonic experimentation of various compilations - have brought me more comfort than anyone could possibly comprehend. Despite feeling organic, there is solace in every song’s brutal familiarity; as Ellis Jones admits, “As whole songs, they’re not autobiographical, but if you break it down to individual lines, it’s inspired by things that have happened to me”. Having occupied “time to fill” at a King Of Cats show, Ellis’ melancholic strain of bedroom pop began to snowball, fresh material stitched together by accomplished songwriting and understated ambition, culminating with a split 12” alongside pals Joanna Gruesome (“We don’t all hang out in a house and one of us will play a riff”, he assures me, laughing, contrary to popular belief) and a debut album lurking in the shadows, with its sequel and fully-fledged tour following closely behind. Incessantly grounded, he
remains unflustered by the closer scrutiny. “It’s nice to get good reviews, but it’s rare that I feel like someone has really got it. I finished the album and sent it to close friends and realised that’s the most exciting bit. The fun’s over now. It’s great that people listen to it and like it, but, in terms of what apparently prestigious places have to say, I don’t think that means much to me”. Speaking warmly of his DIY roots, Bristol, the ridiculousness of receiving an 8/10 in the NME despite every record garnering high praise, if there’s any justice 2015 should finally see Ellis Jones considered as vital by the masses as I view him. Perhaps I’ll simply wait here patiently until Trust Fund has taken over the whole damn world. Yes, that sounds rather pleasant, and a planet I, for once, wouldn’t mind inhabiting. NEW SOUNDS 2015 It's been over twelve months since MMOTHS released his last EP. Diaries saw the then nineteen-year-old Jack Colleran carve out an electronically dexterous and unnerving sound; one whose melodies only surfaced momentarily before delving back into the ambient wave. He toured with The xx. He had the nod of approval from Flying Lotus. And no sooner did he emerge than he vanished, or at least it felt like he had. We should have known better of course, the driving force behind works like All These Things and Too Real is such that it could never fade quietly into the pages of 2012/13 ambience. It's this force, this emotional core, that has been harnessed as the Irish producer once again pulls focus. We've seen the signs in the tracks he released these past months, in the warm speckled swells of Santo and the intense wild grooves of its wintry counter part Yago - an album is coming. What we do know is that these two tracks aren't representations of the record itself but have come from the same place. Quite what that place is, we're not sure but we'll put good money on it being as harrowing as it is euphoric, as soulful as it is stark; an isolated place starved for attention but surrounded by a rich and loving landscape. Even reading about Tei Shi is enough to get you hot under the collar. “Sexy to the point of indecency,” purred The Line of Best Fit. “R&B Bedroom-Pop from Another Dimension,” proclaimed Noisey. And if your response is “Enough hyperbole, already” then just take a listen. That robo-funk bassline in, er, Bassically. That sultry, soft voice. The melancholic, vulnerable beauty that runs through all her songs. Tei Shi is so captivating that those dazzling words seem apt. Born Valerie Teicher in Argentina to Colombian parents and now living in Brooklyn, Tei Shi dropped her brooding debut EP Saudade in late 2013 (you may have seen us declare our love for it back then). 2015 will see her release her debut album – and, if it builds on the promise of what’s preceded it, it could see her go stratospheric. There’s a spine-tingling intimacy to Shi’s music – even when she’s layering and looping her voice, what cuts through is the stark, stunning romanticism of it all. Her breathy vocals welcome you into her confidence while the spacious, hypnotising electronica flowing
underneath is the perfect backdrop. New material has revealed a less gloomy side than Saudade showed. “I've kind of approached songwriting from a less self-indulgent, emo place, and more from an angle of wanting to write something that grooves and will make people move,” she told Noisey. And the startlingly brilliant new songs Bassically and See Me bear that out. Both are airy and vulnerable; seductive and hypnotic. Much of their intoxicating allure comes from the way the songs grow, elements slowly mixed in, layer upon layer, as the songs grow out of the shade, unfurling in the brilliant light. And it’s all tied together with her graceful, heartbreaking swagger that brings to mind FKA twigs, Lykke Li, Beach House and The Blow. Its beauty gently oozes from the speakers and, before you know it, it’s conquered your head and your heart. Look out 2015, you’re next. As their melodies drag and chords are played with hormonal melancholy and dizzy gloom, I'm transported back to sulky teenage days and dreams in the distance, giddy and dazed with what the future may hold. Ominous tones and unsteady notes with a jagged edge ring out from Girlpool the Los Angeles duo comprised of Cleo Tucker (guitar) and Harmony Tividad (bass) - whilst the twanging notes and clipped rhythms add a sense of latent fizz. Shades of giddiness mix with blurring dejection on their eponymous EP: Paint Me Colors is an ode to despondent evenings alone, the scrawling Jane flirts with psychedelica, and Blah Blah Blah sees the tempo revved up and the hormones racing. Think frantic and grungy, feminine and bolshy, a la Speedy Ortiz, Shampoo, Hole and Lush. Honest, catchy, self aware and drenched in rawness, their flexing punk is packed with grazing ferocity and a wholesome DIY ethos. LISTEN TO: JANE @girlpoolband // facebook.com/GIRLPOOOL Sometimes music has the unique ability to reflect its surroundings, conjuring-up images and creating an atmosphere relative to the place of its formation; this observation has been sighted as a theory towards the unerring Scandinavian sonic success, and it’s certainly at play where Aquilo are concerned. Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher met in the same town in the Lake District, playing live shows in metal and rock bands. Their union as Aquilo is as unlikely then as it is lucky for us. From the moment you hear their music the allure is instant: sparse bucolic beauty reigns, as falsetto vocals pour over thoughtful backing. It's no surprise that their latest cut Human is produced by genre flag-bearer SOHN, as the Vienna-based artist feels like their closest peer. They have grown perfectly from their pace-setting You There, and there is no doubt that 2015 is the year for them. Their expansive surroundings clearly inspire Aquilo's dreamy outings, taking the listener away from wherever they may be and off to a far better place. Tkay Maidza's rapid fire style gives her tracks a sense of urgency and energy it's hard not to get hooked on. Hailing from Australia, she’s just one of the continent’s incredible range of talented acts breaking out of their scene at the moment. Flitting between dance-pop and “bratty rap” (her description, not ours) at her leisure, each track sounds ready to explode onto radio without ever sounding too polished. This year’s mixtape Switch Tape displayed just how much range Maidza has, drawing all kinds of influence, from the likes of PC Music to more soulful and traditional sounds, combining them to create something with an adventurous and genuinely fun feel. With so many fantastic producers and collaborators on board too (Bok Bok, Paces, Elk to name a few) it’s clear we’re not the only ones who see big things for her in the new year. This is music that could be equally at home being introduced by Terry Wogan or - as just happened - in front of crowds at a sold-out Lexington. Both those are, obviously, fine things. It’s the voice that grabs you first; powerful as hell and all kinds of versatile, it communicates a great seriousness, a bourbonsipping sadness that immerses you thoroughly into the smoky, almost jazzy atmosphere. And as you listen more, and lose yourself more, you notice just how exquisitely these songs are arranged. LAYLA’s classical background, and sophisticated songwriting approach, is apparent in perfectly timed swoops of percussive power, in the bubbles of brass, in the moments the strings enrich but never overpower. RECORD OF THE MONTH RAE MORRIS
UNGUARDED Patience is a virtue and long-time fans of Rae Morris have had to have just that. It feels like the 21-year old chanteuse has been delivering her mature-beyondyoung-years pop for a very long time now; indeed, she was signed by Atlantic shortly after her eighteenth birthday so has been honing this craft and building up to the release of her first full-length for over three years; the result is something special. All the emotion and stunning melancholia from early outings is there, and nowhere is this more clear than the LP’s opener. Skin is a hauntingly beautiful way to be welcomed-in to Morris’ work: with its ticking, music box introduction, the track allows her voice to weave UNGUARDED effortlessly throughout. And what a voice it is. Piano-lead Atlantic January 26th ballads - which have always been her staple - For You, Don’t Go and This Time let it soar, displaying all its Stand Out Tracks: delicate vulnerability as well as its punchy quality. Love Again Those aforementioned fans will be familiar with these Unguarded wonderfully grown-up songs that she does so well, but Skin where Unguarded really impresses is through its versatility. Closer The challenge for Morris as an artist was always going to be exposing a pop sensibility that will have the potential to @raemorrismusic expose her to a wider, more mainstream audience. Alongside grammy-winning producer Ariel Rechtshaid Electric Brixton February 12th (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Sky Ferreira) with whom she recorded the album in LA, Morris has nailed it. Closer still holds on to her romantic themes but has a massive ear worm of a chorus and is covered in a Return Of The Mack-esque beat, developing it into one of the records proper highlights. She goes one step further with Love Again though: the standout track wouldn’t feel out of place amongst radio residing juggernauts as it nods to more recent Coldplay and the 90s-inspired dance music that dominates our airwaves, and it’s quite brilliant pop perfection. Safe to say, Unguarded was well worth the wait. George O’Brien

GIRLS IN PEACETIME WANT TO DANCE Matador // January 19th As if penning his own epitaph, Stuart Murdoch concludes the unfeasibly-infectious elevator music/klezmer-hybrid of The Everlasting Muse with the words, “Be popular, play pop and you will win my love.” It’s a knowing wink from a band who remain magnets for melody, even if they’ve become progressively braver with their source material. Eye-openers include the spangly 70s-pop of Dee Dee Penny-duet Play For Today, the glitter-dusted disco of The Party Line and the laser-guided strut of potential Eurovision-winner Enter Sylvia Plath. Equally, these more outré moments are balanced beautifully by the bittersweet loveliness of Ever Had A Little Faith? and lushly-arranged opener Nobody’s Empire. A gorgeous album of grown-up pop that proves the phrase ‘guilty pleasure’ is the domain of those already dead inside. Gemma Samways

PANDA BEAR MEETS THE GRIM REAPER Domino // January 13th ...in which our protagonist Noah Lennox comes face to face with the angel of death. And, armed only with some instruments and a bucketful of reverb, fends off the reaper with a collection of angelic, echoing songs. Gone is the sparse minimalism of Tomboy and back is the heavily (and heavenly) layered loops that made Person Pitch so beguiling. But, with the addition of some old skool hip-hop influences, it also hits harder than that album. The first half squelches and reverberates. Mr Noah crunches through (with added dog barks) while Boys Latin sounds like a pogo-ing church choir, before Tropic of Cancer’s heartfelt harp work heralds a dreamier second side (with Selfish Gene exquisite). And, as we look on, we know that our hero has triumphed. The death (of blissful electronic music) has been averted again. Danny Wright

Melodic // December 1st As first tracks go, Microsleep, the initial, jarring three minutes from The Drink’s debut LP, flirts with offering a somewhat spiritual experience. Perhaps it’s the angelic chorus of falsetto, but as soon as the guitars rumble into throaty refrain, it is clear that the London three-piece are worshipping at the steps of a very different altar. For the most part, Company is a record of irresistible contrast; Junkyard’s bruising crack of knuckles is certainly at odds with the breezy pop of Desert, riffs seemingly swiped from the fingertips of the Pixies battling gloriously against Dearbhla Minogue’s harmonious vocals. Undoubtedly unique, this is a heady concoction to savour. Lee Wakefield LiS 29

NO CITIES TO LOVE Sub Pop // January 19th Discussing the band’s decision to end their indefinite hiatus, Carrie Brownstein told NPR, “Sleater-Kinney isn't something you can do half-assed… we have to really want it.” The second Janet Weiss’ percussion crashes into Brownstein’s spidery guitar lick, in the opening bars of Price Tag, it’s obvious the trio are as impassioned as ever, and intent on bolstering their already-incendiary legacy. And that’s precisely what they do, unleashing a scorching set of razor-sharp punk-rock that puts killer hooks and powerhouse choruses at its heart. Not even the band know whether this reunion’s a one-off and, as Corin Tucker acknowledges on Fade, it’s this element of jeopardy that adds fuel to their fire: “If we are truly dancing our swansong, darling, shake it like never before.” Gemma Samways

At best, the lyrics are bleak. But the Canadian quartet’s morbid outlook can be explained by the band’s fatalistic starting point. Rising from the ashes of Women after the passing of guitarist Christopher Reimer, singer Matt Flegel harnesses his best icy and angular attack on Pointless Experience as he barks: “If we’re lucky we’ll get old and die”. While on Continental Shelf the ‘skyline is falling in’. Sonically, their harsh, mechanised approach to guitar rock – too clinical even for Joy Division – is a distant cousin to Bowie’s Station to Station and is punctuated only by unexpected moments of sonic madness and blasts of edgy euphoria. All of this occurs long before the closing eleven-minute minor chord romp of a song simply titled, Death. Geoff Cowart
Monster Rally is about escapism; cut’n’paste beats creating collaged instrumental tour guides to places far flung from the metropolis you’re hunkered down in. Opener, Lake Merritt, drops us squarely in this world; laconic tropicality conjuring palm tree vistas silhouetted against perfect sunsets, an insouciant Jay Stone contemplating “sitting, just chilling”, but we don’t stay put long, and it’s the Oakland rapper’s lyrics that swap this revery for city-living realism. Drunk bus drivers, Isley Brothers LPs, Capri Suns and emo kids “who give no fucks” are just some of the touchstones in a world Stone spins with acute social awareness and lightning wit. Ted Feighan’s imagination is on fire, too; especially on Cognac, where his strutting 70s motif is enriched by Stone’s demand for “vegan donuts”, rivalling even Kanye’s croissant needs. Dave Rowlinson

EVERYTHING ELSE MATTERS Club AC30 // January 12th Respect to this St Petersburg band for repurposing shoegaze from the Baltic’s eastern banks, and for their choice of name, which, seemingly nonsensical, is weirdly illustrative of their art. The colourful emissions of propulsive space-rock source My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins and Stereolab for an astral soundscape whose bouncy, prog-funk beats are flooded with piercing guitar and jets of synth. Singer Lyubov’s soprano is so saturated with reverb it’s almost indiscernible, while the songs rely more on variants of heft and tempo than structural norms. These passages of distorted dreamery come together most satisfyingly during the banging metal crunch of Glitter, the unearthly baggy uplift of Marigold and the terrific single Umi, which allows radiant harmony to shine through the tumult. MAN IT FEELS LIKE SPACE AGAIN Caroline // January 26th In the post-Lonerism age, success is ephemeral; fashion is fickle. With so many groups hopping on the lysergic bandwagon, the chassis is straining. Rewind to the halcyon days of 2012, when Pond’s psychonautical fourth album Beard, Wives, Denim exploded fragmentary minds everywhere. Originally intended as the follow-up, Man It Feels... was temporarily shelved due to touring constraints. The added time has enabled the group (sans Kevin Parker) to get it on point. It’s focused and concise, brimming with glam warmth on tracks like Elvis’ Flaming Star and Outside Is The Right Side, while Medicine Hat apes the open-road orchestration of The Band. Warm your feet on the hearthrug and drop a little something in your cocoa. Perth’s psychedelic coterie has your mind. Tim Hakki
TANYA TAGAQ ANIMISM
Six Shooter Records // January 26th Avant-garde, progressive but also primal and emotionallytaught, Tagaq’s records can be both an endurance test and a spiritual journey. Latest release Animism is a collision of vibrant wilderness and synthetic noise, impossible to ignore but satisfying to deconstruct. Things kick off with a bizarre cover of the Pixies’ Caribou, the lo-fi twang of the original swapped for a misfit fanfare. Frank Black would approve, but it’s an odd addition alongside the otherwise intense atmosphere. And what an atmosphere it is. Umingmak provides the meeting of worlds between Tagaq’s aboriginal inspiration and EDM, but it’s Howl and Flight that offer the foreboding, animalistic heart of this experience. Occasionally joyous and restlessly creative, returning to reality after listening to Animism feels positively morbid. Grant Bailey LiS 31

So I guess going to Abbey road was a pretty weird experience just cause even parking up and walking inside involved loads of tourists outside taking photos as we walked in, cause there was some Beatles re-recording thing going on and they didn’t know who was who. The closest I got to being involved in that was talking to Joss Stone’s mum whilst we both choked down a cig in the freezing feng shui garden thing out the back. She was really nice and I remember thinking that if she were my mum I’d have probably been a pop star whether I had it in me or not. In these kinds of places my anxiety runs wild and I just instantly feel like a little kid, like when you’ve gone into your dad’s work and you’re kind of just in the way. Like Maida Vale Studios, the place is like a sixth form college with doors that you aren’t meant to look in but behind each one is a 30-strong string quartet or Jessie J doing something or other. Abbey Road was also rife with late40-yr-old guys with super expensive looking
shoes either milling about doing fuck all or walking with purpose down heavily carpeted corridors, all of whom seemed to inexplicably take a shine to Rob, nodding and holding doors open like he was part of the club. He didn’t know why. Shortly after this I apparently pissed on a man’s balls but I still think it‘s impossible. I’d been sat cross-legged, listening to our song getting mastered then I wandered off for a wee and there was a guy in there next to me and my piss just kind of shot out to the right and he massively overreacted and started shouting that I’d pissed on his balls. I dunno how I’d got it on his balls and avoided his actually massive dad-sized dick but apparently I had. After that I walked around a bit more trying to meet Graham Coxon, then got the Megabus back to Leeds. Ryan Needham Menace Beach release Ratworld via Memphis Industries, January 19th.
