want to welcome my good friend, Actor Ron Frazier, to BTS Entertainment Corner. I met Ron on the shoot of an in-house medical device commercial just days before my heart a ack. We reconnected once I had started recovering and it's been a wild ride since. From Mr. Mercedes, Dine With the Devil, The Blood Thins, Outer Banks to The Righteous Gemstones, we talk all aspects of ac ng!

Thank you Brian, I would like to allude briefly to our first mee ng on a commercial set and our like-minded conversa on about the industry and myself being rela vely green and discussing our goals with each other. I appreciated your candidness and openness. A few days later, I had extreme urgent strong feeling to call you and when you told me you were in the hospital, had a heart a ack that day and scheduled for surgery the following morning. You can imagine my disbelief. It has been great to follow your accomplishments as our friendship has also grown. It also is amazing how many of the same projects and sets we end up on together. With that being said...

1) Ron, although you have had a short career only star ng in July of 2018 you have really been amazing in your short career and this year could be your biggest yet. How did you get started in ac ng and what's your approach to all these different projects?

As you know Brian, except for a few films and music videos years ago my career is s ll very new. Not to say it has not been amazing and filled with many unbelievable experiences in a short existence. Chance and opportunity have been key to me. When given a chance, I try to find more opportunity within or create opportunity. I always wanted to see the opera on behind the scenes of a larger produc on.

When I saw an adver sement looking for background actors for HBO pilot, I submi ed a simple headshot in full length shot from my phone.

Not knowing the process, I figured that would be it and did not expect a response. A few days later, I received an email sta ng the call me and what to wear and bring. I was chosen for two days. First day, I was with a small group and was not used but I enjoyed taking in the experience and ge ng to see the cameras, actors, etc. My second day on set, I was with larger group , a choir of approximately 100. It was then I found out that I resemble John Goodman and by “Chance“ I became his double in a pilot, my third me on set and eventually throughout the first season.

I also was fortunate to be cast as a reoccurring Deacon on the Righteous Gemstones. I was hooked and looked for more opportuni es to learn and improve, obtain more opportuni es in this cra , be it in commercials, short films or independent films. A few months later, I was cast in Adrian Roman’s The Blood Thins and I reconnected with you, Brian.

Shortly a er, you cast me in a suppor ng role in the film, Dine with the Devil. Also during this me, I was cast in a horror film Flesher. I appreciate the opportunity and every day a er, I look to improve within the cra at least one percent every day. A brief me a er, I was fortunate and blessed to be cast as a reoccurring (every episode) Assistant district a orney in Mr. Mercedes on DirectTv Audience channel.

think I would be on three different sets and produc ons in a week. I approach all the produc ons the same. I try to project the director’s vision to the best of my abili es no ma er what the capacity of the role. This has also inspired me to begin wri ng again. Currently I am wri ng four screenplays.

2) I know you don't want to be considered a background actor; hell, I know you aren't as I cast you in a suppor ng role for Dine with the Devil. Having said that though, we've both done some background work and found it a learning experience. What advice do you have for actors wan ng to do background? Should serious actors do background and when should they step back or just take featured background roles?

First and foremost, do what makes you happy and fulfill your thirst in the film industry in any way you can obtain it.

Background is a great way to learn and see what happens in front and behind the camera.

Some background actors love it and never have a desire for a speaking role. For myself, with anything I do, I wanted to see what level and extent I could take the ac ng and I pursued speaking roles in audi ons. Serious full- me actors I found used most of their me searching and going to audi ons. Although, if schedules permit, they enjoy reconnec ng with the background family. Usually, if featured background roles are available. Which means one could be just one director’s thought of becoming a speaking role. I take large and small roles both to feed my learning crave.

I enjoyed being on all the sites, mee ng different directors, different crew, and different cast.

They all have a different feel or vibe about them.

Outer Banks allowed me to film in boat on the water, and witness a large Pyro burn outside which were first for me. Mr. Mercedes allowed me to see and hear the en re thoughts of the making of the produc on from director Jack Bender, working closely with the main cast and an amazing crew. I love being on every episode and the court room was filled with powerful deliveries from a superb cast, a great learning experience. The Righteous Gemstones has presented me a chance to first be on a set, see and do many aspects; from being John Goodman’s double to a reoccurring Deacon role on the show.

I look forward to going to this set, knowing I will definitely have plenty of laughs throughout the day.

4) I really like working with the same people on different projects, it's like walking into a comfortable situa on to see familiar faces, and to me being comfortable on a film set is what it's all about. You, myself and Ashley O'Neal ("Dine with the Devil", "The Blood Thins", "Mr. Mercedes") will be working on "The Third Party" by Director Adrian Roman ("The Blood Thins") in February; what are your feelings on working with all these folks again?

I feel the same way; the comfort level improves the chemistry. The vibe allows the scene to be felt as well as heard and seen. The chances of being on set with you or (Continued on page 6)

advice for aspiring actors (Hell, veteran actors too), especially how to act on a set. Directors love working with you and having you around; what's your secret?

5) "The Righteous Gemstones" is set to start filming again soon and you'll reprise your role as one of the "Deacons".

You'll also be John Goodman's stand-in and you're a body double as well. What's the difference in these two important jobs on a film set? I also have to ask what's it's like working with John Goodman and Danny McBride?

A body double is chosen from directors and make up department based on similar looks as well as what their magic can do. Doubles are pampered to a degree for they want your look in clothes to stay the same. Make up not running, keep your cool not to sweat. There are many other great perks of being a double.

A stand in is chosen based on demographics, height and size basically. Used mostly to set and adjust the cameras properly.

John Goodman and Danny McBride are just as funny behind the camera as in front. Some days I just can’t believe I’m ge ng paid for this.

Don’t get discouraged, look for opportuni es everywhere, if they don’t present themselves, create your own opportuni es. Be prepared for sacrifices. I use the 1% method myself in life anyway I just apply it now to the film industry as well. The 1% method is to improve your life by just one percent every day as well as your film career. Moby Dick

irst, some fun with numbers. “Moby-Dick” is over 500 pages long (edi ons do vary, however) and includes 135 chapters. The first 23 chapters and the last 23 are all good; but in between there is a mix of the good and the needless. The la er have tles like “Cetology”, “The Whiteness of the Whale”, “Of the Monstrous Pictures of Whales”, “Of the Less Erroneous Pictures of Whales” and so on. There are approximately 40 of these needless chapters. In a sense, then, Melville’s most famous work (published in 1851) is made up of two different books: the one is the novel proper, which is a great and unique work of American literature; the other is a long-winded and pedan c study of whaling and whales generally. Fortunately, the needless chapters are quite easy to iden fy and I have no qualms about skipping them.

The adventure begins with a sailor’s arrival in the town of New Bedford, Massachuse s. The sailor, Ishmael, is the novel’s narrator. “I thought I would sail about a li le and see the watery part of the world.” At length he boards

the Pequod, a Nantucket whaling ship. The captain of this vessel is the enigma c and ominous Ahab.

Imagine a mangled and one-legged Abraham Lincoln having succumbed to moral and spiritual darkness, and you will have an idea of what Ahab is. His ship is already out to sea when he informs his crew that his concern is not profit or conven onal whale hun ng.

Ahab is in search of an enormous, apparently invincible whale named Moby-Dick; for it was this whale which tore off his leg.

Ahab is the archetype of the charisma c madman, and his appearances and words are always gripping. In one episode, he is engaged in a debate with Starbuck, his chief mate. Starbuck puts forward an appeal to common sense, which views vengeance on “a dumb brute” as madness or even blasphemy. Ahab replies: “[Moby-Dick] tasks me; he heaps me; I see in him outrageous strength, with an inscrutable malice sinewing it. That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the white whale agent, or be the white whale principal, I will wreak that hate upon him. Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I’d strike the sun if it insulted me.”

And near the novel’s disastrous climax, he says of himself with a mix of pride and melancholy: “Ahab stands alone among the millions of the peopled earth, nor gods nor men his neighbors! Cold, cold—I shiver!”

Whatever one might think about hun ng in general, whale hun ng in par cular has about it a hard-todeny foulness. That foulness comes through in Melville’s narra ve, inten onally or not. His novel is indeed a tale of (Continued on page 12)

Rather than maintaining silence, What’s the Story™ would like to contribute some down to earth, people-focused OPINIONS. WHAT WE ASKED: For many, it’s safe to say, “It’s the economy!” is a major topic for discussion in the 2020 Presiden

al Elec on. Most candidates do not take a clear posi on on the economy with vague references to not taxing the middle class, but not providing a clear plan.

What do you want from a Presiden al candidate, soon-to-be next President of the United States? What posi on(s) does your candidate need to take to secure your vote?

Some possible posi ons: More taxes to the rich, less government and lower taxes, flat tax, a balanced budget and live within our means; just sugges ons to inspire the conversa on. Following are some responses from our poli cal contributors.

Independent View Foresight Can Be 2020

ooking ahead at where this country is heading and at what I think it needs, I would love for the most progressive candidate le standing to be president. Our country and its poli cal process has been pulled, pushed and prodded so far to the right by corporate interest that in order for us to reach the center/le (which is where most ci zens are) we need a president that is far le , so that when he/she begins to nego ate and govern, we will wind up with center/le laws, judges, policies, goals, …

My ideal cket would have this pla orm for starters:  *Vo ng would be the cons tu onal right of each individual U.S. ci zen of legal vo ng age. And each ci zen, including territories, would have a vo ng representa ve in congress.

(Some mes you get a second chance to make a first-class ci zen.)  *Officially end all corporate personhood and put an end to all corporate influence (and dark money) in our government and elec ons. (The darkest money comes from the lightest people.)

Republican View It’s Mostly The Economy Stupid!

or many voters, a strong economy is meaningful. This is because the economy affects other important aspects of life. A strong economy touches people in a way that nothing else can. A strong economy can lead to happiness, job security and even a be er way of life. A strong economy can support the military strength that we require to project leadership and freedom of the seas globally, and that keeps us safe. In contrast, a weak economy does none of those things, just ask Obama! He was a coward who gave up on our country when he didn’t have answers and sold us out to the likes of China, Iran and Russia. But in his defense, he did give us Bin Laden and hope for change…for which we finally got!

But the economy isn’t everything. Real people need and want a president to be brave, decisive and strong. Intelligent and respected.

Everything Obama wasn’t. Honest Americans want our Commander in Chief to lead by example and mean what he says…like when a bad actor crosses a (Continued on page 9)

For too long, the American people have suffered while Congress has helped themselves to our wealth. Under Obama, he freely gave over $150 billion to Iran who is designated as the number one state sponsor of terrorism by our Department of Defense…this is criminal!

This year, Americans enjoyed the lowest unemployment in 50 years , and those le behind by the economy under previous administra ons are coming off the sidelines "In December 2019," nearly ¾ of new workers are were previously una ached to the labor market.

In 2019, more than 70% of jobs added went to women, and, thanks to these historic job gains, women now outnumber men in the workforce for the first me ever .

Both African American and Hispanic workers have enjoyed the lowest unemployment ever in 2019 thanks to President Trump's pro-worker agenda.

Not a flat tax. A progressive tax but a person who earned X amount of dollars working and a person earning X dollars from “investments” would pay the same rate. End the Social Security contribu on donut hole. (I would adopt Elizabeth Warren’s tax plan as a template and tweak it.)  *Clean air, clean water, healthcare and educa on as cons tu onal rights.  *Climate change and its effects would be a high priority. (I get too angry to joke about this. I would put together a “Solar Panel”, imprison corporate polluters in maximum security solar cells.)  *Universal Healthcare/Medicare for all. When we finally got the print shop and our sister-in-law joined the team (2007 a er our necessary name change to LeRue Press), books were tradi onally printed on offset presses, not digitally. We did not see that as a barrier. We produced our first “official” hardcover book in 2008, Pick Me, Pick Me, a children’s book by Elizabeth Horton. It was done digitally and it proved that it could be done. We were a li le ahead of the curve and loved it.

The shop was a quick print type business, so we added books so it would be obvious we wanted to print and publish. It worked. Trust me, it was not easy and we struggled through the recession, but we found quality authors, learned the business thoroughly and maintained the commercial side of the prin ng business with business cards, invoices and anything else that needed to be printed while we sought out quality authors.

When self-publishing became accepted and Kindle came out (2007) we began prin ng and digi zing books too. When we saw a need for authors to understand how to treat their book projects as a business, we combined our Execu ve Center business (2014) with LeRue Press so we could provide all the services any author or entrepreneur would need under one roof. With the addi on of the radio show and magazine (What’s the Story? Plus Book Hound) in 2012, we were all set.

We are a family business: two sisters and a sister-in-law. Yes, we do get along.

Now we are 20 years in, s ll loving what we’re doing and constantly upgrading, changing with the mes and con nuing to learn. To celebrate our 20 in 2020, we plan to party all year! Watch for some fun things we have planned. You will want to par cipate, I’m sure!

And though the name was changed, we will always be “Publishing from the Heart”!

John Loranger was born in Bu e, Montana in 1961 but has spent most of his life in Nevada. He served in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1987, then worked for the telephone company before re ring in 2011. He has always enjoyed reading fic on and has published two novels of his own: "The Odyssey of Art O'Hara" and "Lions and Souls: the Story of St. Mary of Egypt", available at LeRue Press and Amazon.

Another Independent Opinion he government is in place for one purpose, and that is to ensure we Americans are allowed our “unalienable rights” to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without infringing on other Americans’ same desire. So, the economy is always an important factor I consider before I cast my vote. There are other factors I consider as well, but na onal security is equally as important as the economy. And, as I want to limit this to just a few paragraphs, those two are the only ones I’ll discuss. And, as there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate, I will imagine one. I also realize a president’s power is limited, justly so, in our balanced government of checks and balances.

First, this candidate would deliver a small government which would mean taxing me less. The government has grown to a bloated monstrosity ripe with financial waste. I don’t mind paying taxes, as I realize it’s a cost to live in the greatest country on Earth, but to a point. I don’t know what the exact amount of waste is, but I assume a sizable chunk of every dollar I give to the IRS is lost through waste, the and mismanagement, which really angers me.

An ideal situa on would be for the government to shrink to what is only necessary to ensure our way of life. This would ideally mean less waste, and less taxes. And, speaking of taxes, the whole system needs to be fixed, or just no income taxes, to be replaced by something like a na onal sales tax. That would have other ramifica ons, but at this point, I’d be open to new ideas rather than the same old system Second, the candidate would ensure our na onal security both foreign and domes c. A great economy is only good if you’re alive to enjoy it. The president needs to assert America’s presence overseas, and stand up to bullying na ons without being a bully. For instance, standing up to a regional power that sponsors terrorism and seeks to a ack American interests is a call this candidate is able to make. This candidate should also ensure our borders are secure, (Continued on page 15)

IT’S A CHOICE TO STAY HOMELESS

hronic homelessness is a choice. I am living proof that anyone experiencing homelessness can get out and stay out, if they want. I am a mother of 3. I am a survivor of human trafficking. I am an addict working a program of recovery. Yes, I have been and have experienced homelessness. From experience I know Reno City resources and community assistance programs work.

There are so many excuses as to why a person is unable to get off of the streets. I do NOT want to hear them anymore. The only answer that is honest to me is, “I DO NOT want to.” Ge ng off the street and into a place of stability requires a person to find God, get sober, address and manage mental health issues while working a legal job.

In some cases, such as mine, I asked Washoe County Human Services Agency to open up a case against me. Child Protec ve Services safely watched my kids when I went into an inpa ent program (free of charge) in order to address the substance abuse issues I had. I trusted CPS to give me custody of my children back as long as I was a fit parent. If I wasn’t willing to put in the work and address the mental health issues I experienced as a result of the unhealthy lifestyle I had been living, then my children deserved be er.

I wanted to get off the street and away from unhealthy lifestyle pa erns. I u lized several services available to our homeless popula on. I followed the sugges ons offered by these agencies intended to bridge the gap out of poverty into a life of self-sufficiency. I sought mental health services (free of charge), and yes, I have a mental health diagnosis. This is not an excuse for laziness or inability to work. I was able to seek services that gave me a hand up (not handout) as long as I con nued to work and par cipate in recovery. Job skills and training programs, con nuing educa on, and job placement services are gi s I received as a result of the hard work I did. I now have full custody of my children and live in affordable housing without subsidy.

I am a firm believer that the only publicly funded housing ini a ve, which needs to be supported, is ge ng our chronically homeless off the street and into programs specializing in addressing the needs of this popula on. Many of our substance abuse and mental health facili es already in place have housing available.

Giving chronically homeless a safe place to do drugs and commit crimes is not the answer and is a waste of taxpay(Continued on page 17)

he water’s gone now, but you can s ll feel the lapping of the waves as the wind races ’cross the desert sands. Feeling the spray on your face, you take a deep breath, savoring the salt air. In the distance you see a large fish break the surface of the mirror-like waters in a high leaping arc, trailing sparkling drops of moisture as it slowly drops back; only to land on the rocks. A mirage, a myriad of lights, a wish unfulfilled. Crossing the valley, dark clouds cry, a rainbow sparkles then disappears, for suddenly, there is a flash of light, then another. Slow, deep rumblings emerge from the dark. Unexpectedly the ground begins to shake, your heart races, balance is lost, as the ground you stand upon is no longer there.

You blink and as your eyes reopen; nothing but dark clouds roll swi ly across your field of vision. A sudden pain shoots up your spine as you fall back. The ground con nues shaking violently beneath you. Bright flashes of light and louder rumblings con nue to surround you. Across the valley, low hills begin rising, ever higher, ever daun ng. The wind swirls about you, bringing darker clouds, obscuring your vision. You catch only glimpses of the carnage during random flashes of lightening. Suddenly, liquid fire shoots into the dark sky illumina ng the storm-darkened valley. It too dances, as

the leaves before the wind danced. Fire arcs spray everywhere. Enchanted by this picture, painted by the elements, you are frozen by cold fascina on. The deafening roar in your delicate ears is irrelevant compared to the wild display before you.

The sparkle in your eyes is reflected in the fire. Yes, your eyes, burning brighter than the volcanic, igneous, extrusive, molten rock that radiates from the mount. Liquid fire dances before your eyes. The hot lava advances upon you l it's heat licks at your skin; warming your cold fascina on to excitement. Your body begins to glisten with beads of moisture. You lick your lips with an cipa on. Your heart races and a glimmer of doubt invades your mind as you wonder if you should have escaped this danger, but you hold your ground.

You stand, placing your hands on your hips, defiant in the face of destruc on. Your kinship with the elements is strong. The wind whips your hair about your face. Your courage and will cause the storm to s ll and then subside. Your smile brings back the so clouds and a gentle cleansing rain. Your laughter heralds the return of a happy sun, causing, yet another rainbow, reflected in the s ll, sparkling waters of the desert sands.

Safe Medicines From China For Our Military?

ur military and veterans are currently dependent on China for most medicines that may be detrimental to their health. The Defense Health Agency (DHA) provides prescrip on drugs to the military while the Veterans Administra on (VA) supplies medicines to our veterans, mainly generic drugs that are sourced back to China.

India leads in generic drug manufacturing but China is supplying India with 80 percent of its raw ingredients and generic drugs account for approximately 90 percent of all prescrip ons filled in the United States. Basically, one could say that 90% of many common drugs to the U.S. are made in China. Most consumers are unaware that the majority of medicines they purchase are manufactured in Communist China where there are few regula ons and filthy working condi ons in many drug factories.

Medicines from China and/or India include: an bio cs, an depressants, an diabe cs, aspirin, chemotherapy, heart, high blood pressure and much more.

So what’s the threat here? China could weaponize pharmaceu cals in the following 3 ways:  They could sell us degraded drugs.

They could stop expor ng medicines and their key  ingredients.

They could sell us medicines containing lethal  contaminants such as fentanyl. * Fentanyl is a synthe c opioid that is 50 mes more potent than heroin and is manufactured primarily in China and Mexico and is illegally shipped to the U.S. As a country , we have basically outsourced our en re drug industry to China and are now dependent on them for our health and welfare. China has strategically posi oned themselves to be one of the largest producers of pharmaceu cals in the United States crea ng a vulnerability in our country that is NOT by chance…but by design.

Dependency on China for our life-saving medicines is a clear and present danger to our na onal security and if it so desired, could kill millions, including many of our ac ve duty military and veterans, without even firing a shot!

China has a firm grip on America’s medical supply chain and will weaponize this advantage if it feels that it is in their own best interest to do so, including blackmail. The Department of Defense considers China an adversary.

Since 2018, there have been 75 recalls of blood pressure medicines. Recalls usually state: “Due to an elevated

amount of unexpected impurity…”

In an email from Representa ve John Garamendi tled, “Chinese Made Drugs Threaten Our Servicemembers,” he states: “It is clear to me that if the Chinese wanted to defeat the United States, they could do so by poisoning the medicines our servicemembers are given and take down our military without firing a single shot.”

On 10/17/2019, Representa ve Garamendi introduced H.R. 4710: Pharmaceu cal Independence LongTerm Readiness Reform Act, which would require the Secretary of Defense to purchase only American-made pharmaceu cals for the military.

It is clearly irra onal and mind numbing to put our pharmaceu cal trust in an adversary like China. If we are not dependent on China any longer for our steel, shouldn’t we be independent of them for our pharmaceu cals? Hello!

Our community has a surplus amount of resources that can be accessed by any and everybody experiencing homelessness or temporary poverty. When u lized and accessed, Reno meets the needs of those who need help. Those not accessing these resources do so because they do not want help, they do not want permanent change. These are the types who are homeless by choice. They want spare change and handouts. If we want to help our homeless popula on and those experiencing temporary poverty, donate and give to the agencies that can and do enable real change. This is our community. This is our city. Mayor Hilary Schieve has said, “Love Reno. If we can unite on anything, it’s Love Reno.” Tough love is a form of love and saying “No”, is a form of self-care. It’s me for change and that me is now.

Betrayal of the heart is felt when we realize our feelings have become worthless to the eyes of me.

A s llness of moments within the darkness of despair requires a cleansing of tears felt inside our soul. Drawn to asking the reasons why, our mind is pressured by the heaviness of placing our burdens at the Cross. Learning to close out our pain and begin to pray for all the love that has been given and taken away.

Signs will emerge and angels will appear from heavenly realms; harmonic balance will begin to be felt as a compassionate voice is heard while a so warmth caresses our ear. Vibra ons of song will be sent into our spiritual life as we understand our purpose is to be humble and believe.

If you are from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or Bu e, Montana, you are, without a doubt, familiar with pas es. The Cornish pasty can be traced back as far as the thirteenth century in Cornwall, England. Mining was a thriving industry in Cornwall, and the pasty, a meat and potato pie, was a mainstay for the miner’s lunch bucket. When the Cornish miners immigrated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the 1840’s, they brought with them their tradi onal customs and foods, most of which carry over even today.

When Bu e became a city in 1876, the copper mines were expanding rapidly and the miners made their way west. It was said that, “wherever there’s a mine you’ll find a Cornish man in it.”

The miners referred to the pasty as “a le er from ‘ome”. Legend has it that the thick crimped edge of the meat pie was for the miners to hold onto while ea ng it.

Ask any miner about the “knockers” who supposedly inhabited the mines and they will assure you that these le over crusts kept the ghosts content.

Every household seems to have their favorite recipe for this delicious meat-and-potato pie. The Cornish insist that the meat must be sliced, but the American version is usually with sirloin steak, diced, according to some bakers, “the size of the third joint of a Cornish woman’s li le finger.” Then there are those of us who prefer ground meat. The tradi onal pasty (the “oggie”) was made with rutabaga added.

The crust recipe which was handed down from my family is the best I have ever eaten. I use this recipe for my pie crust also. It is easy to roll out and freezes well for later use.

CORNISH PASTIES CRUST: 4-1/2 cups flour 1 teas baking powder 1 teas salt 2 cups shortening or lard Cutshortening into flour, baking powder and salt Then Beat one egg with one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of cold water. Mix into flour mixture.

Dough will seem too moist, but knead un l it holds together. Roll out rounds to size of pasty desired.

What’s Cookin’?

FILLING: 2 pounds of meat (use sirloin p skir ng flank steak or ground meat) 5 or 6 med. potatoes 2 yellow onions, chopped Salt and pepper Meat may be diced or sliced. Potatoes can also be either diced or sliced. When using ground meat, I grate the potatoes. Mix ingredients together or layer meat, potatoes and onions onto pastry rounds. Fold pastry over meat mixture and crimp, dampening the dough to seal.

Brush tops lightly with egg wash (egg yolk and water) or milk.

Bake at 400 degrees for fi een minutes and then at 350 degrees for one hour.

Served hot or cold, with beef gravy or ketchup, the pasty is a favorite dish for many. Delicious served with coleslaw. I have made vegetarian pas es for my Vegan friend. I use potato, onion, carrots, rutabaga and cabbage.

MINI PASTIES - These make wonderful hors d’oeuvres or finger snacks. I especially like making them every year for our Super Bowl party, as I shape them like li le footballs.

Roll out pie crust dough and cut in three-inch circles (I use a cookie cu er). Mix one pound of ground sirloin steak with one package of dry onion soup mix, salt and pepper.

Scoop one tablespoon of meat mixture onto dough. Fold over and crimp edges. Bake at 350 degrees for thirty to forty minutes.
