NATIVE NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP RETREAT 2015–2020

In April 2015, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, led by Chairman Manuel Heart and Vice Chair Juanita PlentyHoles, initiated the first ever Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Native National Partnership Retreat. The event, held in Westminster, Colorado, was facilitated by Beverly Santicola, Ron Flavin, Reiner Lomb and Karina Branson and attended by 20 Tribal leaders, 20 community partners, and 40 federal agencies. During the first two days of the Retreat the Tribe and its community partners identified the most urgent problems on the reservation and developed possible solutions. On the third day state and federal partners participated in round table discussions with tribal leaders and identified resources to implement the most promising solutions. The results of the first ever Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Native National Partnership Retreat are below:

Facilitators There are many funding experts out there, but one of the things that makes RON FLAVIN unique is his familiarity with the landscape of government grants, incentives and business funding initiatives - winning more than $400M for clients. He’s developed this specialty to help early to mid-stage and established businesses access global, non-diluting funding opportunities and growth resources they may not have known existed. Flavin assists social entrepreneurs, knowledge entrepreneurs, technopreneurs, Native American Tribes, economic development corporations, and private business entrepreneurs in getting to the next level by connecting them to funding and resources that help them achieve their domestic growth goals and even launch or expand international operations. Ron also works with nonprofit and indigenous organizations, governmental agencies and educational institutions in the U.S. and abroad, to help them secure the funding they need to develop infrastructure, fund technological upgrades and other modernization efforts and support programmatic development activities. Ron Flavin’s own business journey began with the launch and growth of both retail and manufacturing businesses. Although he was very successful, he realized that manufacturing and selling stuff was not what he wanted to do with his life – he wanted to help other people achieve their own business or organizational success. After many years as a fundraiser and a grant writer, he no longer wants to merely help people raise money, he wants to help them achieve their most progressive vision, create new technological breakthroughs, and expand their businesses globally into territory they’ve never even imagined. Originally a farm girl from Indiana who learned how to drive a tractor, plant seeds and grow crops at a young age, BEVERLY SANTICOLA has turned her agricultural childhood and lifetime work experiences into a purpose driven mission to grow a new generation of leaders for the future of America. She is an award-winning film producer, social entrepreneur, idea generator, problem solver, program developer, project facilitator, public speaker, and grant writing consultant. Over the past ten years Santicola has focused her expertise and energy in the arenas of community development, youth leadership, and collaborative partnership building for government agencies, national associations, Native American Tribes and Native Hawaiian nonprofits. Working with a team of professional grant writers that have generated more than $800 million in grant funding for clients, she has been nationally recognized for social innovation and leadership excellence by the US Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs in connection with the Tiwahe Initiative, as well as Encore.org as a 2010 and 2014 Purpose Prize Fellow sponsored by the Atlantic Philanthropies and John Templeton Foundation. In her role as Grants Consultant, Santicola also provides facilitation services for multiple grant funded programs communicating regularly with federal government officials to assure systemic integration and the implementation of coordinated service delivery systems. REINER LOMB is a Senior Partner at Blue Earth Network and the President and Founder of BoomerangCoach. His mission is to mobilize and develop leaders that help image002.jpgcreate a more sustainable and positive future for all. That’s why he decided over a decade ago, at the height of his corporate career, to follow his passion and become an Executive Coach, specialized in leadership development, innovation and transformational change. Reiner also enjoys sharing his insights about leadership through writing and blogging. He is the author of “The Boomerang Approach - Return to Purpose, Ignite Your Passion” and is working on his new book about the emotional competencies of transformational leaders. His expertise draws on more than 35 years of experience in global management roles in the U.S. and Germany and spans multiple industries with companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Sperry Univac (Unisys) and several European Companies. At Hewlett-Packard, Reiner started and launched multiple new software products and initiatives and helped to start and develop HP Software into a multi-billion-dollar global business unit. He was also part of the Fort Collins, Colorado Climate Taskforce to help shape the city’s climate policies and since 2015 has supported the leadership of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Colorado in transforming their community. Reiner has earned an MBA in Sustainable Business from Pinchot University (now Presidio) and a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Paderborn (Germany). KARINA BRANSON is delighted to be a visual facilitator, founder and owner of ConverSketch where she uses hand-drawn images and text to reflect and distill the key ideas as graphic recording charts. With a master’s degree in science communication, Karina’s scientific training and an innate ability to connect with people across cultures creates a unique blend of intelligences that enable her to synthesize and creatively capture meaningful content. She has facilitated and supported collaborative strategic planning, community engagement, innovative brainstorming and critical systems thinking to help groups move forward and into action. She has worked across academic, corporate, governmental and non-profit sectors.
