Founded in 1866 and located on a beautiful campus, it boasts accomplished faculty, highly successful Division III athletic teams, and dynamic co-curricular experiences. Full time undergraduate enrollment stands at approximately 1600 students, of which 25 percent are commuters. Additionally, the College enrolls about 165 part-time undergraduate students and 289 graduate students. More information can be found at www.lvc.edu and at the following links: [Fact Book] and [Key Indicators]. LVC is strong and well positioned to increase its academic competitiveness and expand its demographic base. The new President will be expected to craft and implement a strategic vision that will build on the college’s recent accomplishments [link to Recent Accomplishments], expand its resource base, and offer high impact learning experiences. This will allow Lebanon Valley College to continue to transform student lives in preparation for a diverse and changing world. We expect that the new President will assume office on or about July 1, 2012.

LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE: AN OVERVIEW LVC offers a comprehensive curriculum based in the liberal arts, with a strong mix of pre-professional and professional programs, including thirty-four undergraduate majors and a range of minors, concentrations and pre-professional options. LVC also offers graduate degree programs in physical therapy, music education, science education, and business administration. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, National Association of Schools of Music, Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. The College supports experiential learning through international study, internships, student research and other scholarly opportunities. LVC students take advantage of overseas study abroad programs in 12 countries around the world including semester-long programs in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Many students

pursue internship opportunities within their major or through the Career Services Office. The College has a variety of funded sources to encourage student-faculty research in both the humanities and the sciences. LVC graduates have a strong record of success in making a smooth transition from college to their professional lives. Over the past three years, 80 percent of LVC graduates who responded to our annual survey were employed full or part time within six months of graduation, and 26 percent were pursuing graduate or professional degrees. Located in south central Pennsylvania, Annville, founded in 1799, is a small town of approximately 5,000 people. It is 15 minutes from Hershey and 45 minutes from both Lancaster and Harrisburg, the latter serving as the state capitol. Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., are each less than three hours away by auto or train.

Strategic Plan In 2009, the Board of Trustees adopted an updated Strategic Plan designed to remain in effect through 2016. The Board recognizes that strategic planning is a continuous process, that achievement of goals must be measured periodically, and that goals must be challenged and revised as necessary. The Strategic Plan is guided by the overriding principle that LVC aspires to be the best regional liberal arts and pre-professional college in Pennsylvania. [link to Strategic Plan] Faculty and Staff LVC has about 100 full-time faculty members, supplemented by a strong cohort of adjunct faculty. Eighty-eight percent of full-time faculty have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Except for department chairs, most full-time faculty maintain a 4/4 teaching load. LVC maintains a celebratory culture with respect to excellence in teaching; it is the most fundamental aspect of faculty performance evaluation. However, faculty members are also respected contributors to their disciplines as active scholars and performers. [link to Faculty Work webpage] Recent initiatives, such as the Arnold Experiential Grants and the Pleet Initiative, promote faculty-student projects and support the notion of high impact experiences for the student body. The College is also blessed with a strong team of general officers and administrators who work collaboratively in support of institutional initiatives. Central Pennsylvania is known for its stable and hardworking workforce, and LVC has been the beneficiary of that work ethic.

Student Life The interrelatedness of student learning and student life bridges the gap between the ‘in’ and ‘out’ of class experiences. Lebanon Valley offers a large variety of programming options designed to prepare students for life after college as well as to encourage students to become involved in their community. For example, Effective Development through Guided Education (EDGE) provides leadership development programs. Spiritual Life, Multi-Cultural Activities, Study Abroad, and Alumni Career Mentors provide opportunities to extend LVC experiences far beyond the classroom. LVC’s more than 85 clubs and organizations include the Wig and Buckle Theater Company, the Concert Choir, and La Vie Collegienne, the weekly student newspaper. The modern Arnold Sports Center and related facilities offer recreational opportunities for students, faculty, and community members. It also supports Intramural Programs and is the hub of a highly successful Division III Athletic Program. LVC is unique in that 29 percent of the full time undergraduate student body participates in intercollegiate athletics. All these activities create a collaborative, exciting environment in which LVC students live and learn.

Facilities The LVC campus contains over 340 acres; campus life, including athletic facilities, is concentrated on approximately 150 acres. Over $74,000,000 has been invested in major capital projects over the past decade. LVC has adopted a capital renewal and planned maintenance program. The Board of Trustees is acutely aware that while a beautiful, attractive and modern campus is important, effective programs that fulfill the mission of the College are more important. Financial Standing LVC is financially sound, with annual operating revenues consistently in excess of operating expenditures. LVC’s 2011–2012 operating budget is $52 million. The annual operating budget includes allocations for programmatic initiatives as well as provisions for planned maintenance and capital improvements, additions to quasi-endowment, and debt retirement. The freshman discount rate for the 2011–2012 academic year is anticipated to be 46 percent; controlling the discount rate will be a challenge for LVC and for its peers in the coming years. Approximately 98 percent of the full time student body receives some type of financial assistance. As of June 30, 2011, the total endowment stood at $50,000,000. Long term debt stood at about $33,200,000.

Lebanon Valley College Mission Lebanon Valley College is a small, private, liberal arts college. Its mission arises directly from its historical traditions and a relationship with the United Methodist Church. The College’s aim is to enable our students to become people of broad vision, capable of making informed decisions, and prepared for a life of service to others. To that end, we seek to provide an education that helps students acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to live and work in a changing, diverse and fragile world. Through both curricular and co-curricular activities, we endeavor to acquaint our students with humanity's most significant ideas and accomplishments, to develop their abilities to think logically and communicate clearly, to give them practice in precise analysis and effective performance, and to enhance their sensitivity to and appreciation of differences among human beings. Lebanon Valley College aspires to pursue this mission within a community in which caring and concern for others is a core value. We value strong and nurturing faculty interacting closely with students; encouraging individual student development; and affirm the interrelatedness of liberal learning and the ideal of vocation. We regard the cultivation of wisdom that is the capacity of judging rightly in matters of life and conduct, and a lifelong love of learning as the ultimate reward of the educational experience. The College motto is, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." (John 8:32)
