The Edenbridge Magazine • May/June 2019

Note from the Editor... Dear Neighbours, Welcome to the 100th issue of The Edenbridge Magazine! Wow, it really feels like I've reached a milestone. And even after nearly 14 years I still think I am blessed with the best job ever, running my magazines. As always, I have been out and about enjoying the many things that Edenbridge has to offer, as well as attending some of the events that have been taking place. Regular readers will probably guess that at least one of the events I've been was most certainly at the local Edenbridge WI Hall. There is always so much on there and I love the fact that it is within walking distance from my house. One of my favourite pastimes is attending quizzes and the annual Edenbridge Scout Quiz has been on my calendar for many years now, taking place at the beginning of March. I have my regular team and we always have a great time. As usual, we didn't come first but we did much better than in previous years. It's a great excuse for us all to meet up and enjoy ourselves. I've heard from the Scouts that the event helped them raise over £2,000 for their group! As well as supporting local causes in the community, I'm also a very active member of the local Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce. Being a small business owner myself, I know that it can be quite isolating running a business on your own. Since joining the Chamber 14 years ago, not only have I got to know other local business people who I also do business with, but make friends as well. The Chamber hosted a fundraising Chamber of Commerce Spring Casino Centre: Gillian Huntley and me Casino Night last month at the Hever Hotel. The event was enjoyed by everyone who came (and it also gave us a chance to get dressed up) they are now looking to hold a second Casino evening. Look out for details on their website: www.edenvalleychamber.org.uk The local chamber also organised a re-launch of their Loyalty Card Club which rewards shoppers for spending money at local participating retailers. It's a great scheme and there have been many winners since launching the scheme. There is an opportunity for 16 | www.edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • info@edenbridge-magazine.co.uk • 01732 864 878

The Edenbridge Magazine • May/June 2019 £50.00 in vouchers to be won every month. Turn to page 38 to find out more. One of the things that I've found myself thinking about as I start nearing my next milestone birthday is my health and fitness. I've always been a keen runner (completing my first ever Half Marathon after going to print with the last issue) and thought I would look at combining this with something else to introduce variety into my fitness regime. I had been speaking to one of my regular advertisers, Clare Goodwin who runs a number of Pilates classes in and around the area and she talked me into trying it out. Well, I have to say that I have been going along ever since. Not only is Clare a great instructor but the benefits I've felt over the last several weeks have certainly made it worth keeping up (I'm pictured above nailing the side-bridge). You can find out more about her classes on page 11 or visit her website www.clare-goodwin.com It's great to welcome new advertisers into the magazine and I want to say 'Thank you' to you, the readers of the magazine as you seem to pass on my details to businesses you think could benefit in appearing in this magazine. You make a great sales team! As always, there is plenty going on in our vibrant community over the coming months. One date in particular is the Big O Vintage Festival taking place on the weekend of 6th & 7th July at the Kent and Surrey Golf Club. I'm delighted to say that the organiser has donated a family ticket for this issue's Prize Crossword. It sounds like it will be an amazing event and it's taking place right here on our doorsteps! You can read all about it on page 34. As always, please do mention ‘The Edenbridge Magazine’ if you are responding to anything you’ve seen in this publication as it helps to secure it’s future and I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I have putting it together. The next deadline is Friday 31st May for the July/August issue which will be distributed during the last week of June. Until next time...

Quite simply, it works for the majority of businesses you see featured each issue, many of who have been advertising for years! If you want to build your local customer base, increase your profits and make sure the local community knows about your business, advertising in this magazine can really help. The Edenbridge Magazine attracts both large and small businesses who want to promote their services locally, with costs kept low to offer excellent value advertising. Smaller businesses, especially those without a ‘shop front’, can promote their services in a quality publication to the people who want to use them.

There are some great reasons to give it a go! Targeted audience: The magazine is delivered to 6,300 homes and businesses in the TN8 area by Royal Mail every other month. Great value: Prices are kept low so that small businesses can make the most of their advertising budget and appear over a number of issues. It’s a fact that a sustained campaign works better at increasing sales than a one-off advert. All advertisers featured in each issue are listed on the magazine’s website - www.edenbridge-magazine.co.uk - giving your business even more exposure. Good Service: From your initial enquiry, we will help you choose the best advertising package for your business according to your budget. We will make sure you have an eye-catching advert with a clear message about your business. Results: We want your advertising to work for you and we will do our best to make sure you get the most out of your campaign. About 80% of the businesses featured in this magazine are repeat advertisers! A good read: The magazine contains interesting local articles, useful information and listings of local events alongside the business advertising. Residents hold onto the magazines until the next issue arrives so that your advert is seen again and again. It’s been around since 2005 and is a well established part of every household.

Eden Beauty Therapy celebrates 15 years in Edenbridge Town Centre Our local town centre has seen many changes over the years with businesses coming and going but one that has stood the test of time for 15 years is Eden Beauty Therapy on Church Street, owned and run by therapist Emma Stoner. To mark the occasion, not only has Eden Beauty Therapy had a make over, it is also launching a new facial by Guinot - the Lift Summum Treatment. This new facial will smooth, firm and lift your skin and redefine the face contours which helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If you book early, you can take advantage of the special launch offer (while stocks last). The beauty industry is constantly changing and Emma and her team ensure they are always up-to-date in order to provide the best advice and treatments out there. Emma is more than happy to advise a skincare routine and treatments that would work best for your personal skin type, tailoring all treatments to meet the needs of her clients. Pre-Holiday Treatments Now is the time to start planning your holiday treatments as the salon gets very busy the closer the season gets. Manicures and Pedicures: Eden Beauty Therapy use Jessica, a leading nailcare company for over 40 years, for all their

manicures and pedicures. Alongside Jessica's natural nailcare is Jessica Geleration, a fab soak off gel system that will be instantly dry and last for up to 2 weeks. With a wide range of colours to choose from, you'll find the perfect match and your nails will be vibrant throughout your holiday. When you're ready to renew your colour, the old colour is soaked off in the salon and the new colour applied. Treatments cost £30.00 and soak-off £15.00 (soak off is free if having re-application). Waxing: You'll find a full range of treatments available at the salon including Lycon Precision Wax and Lycon Hot Wax, recommended for intimate waxing. It can have up to 50% reduction in sensation compared to other waxes on the market. If you have stubborn hair to remove, Lycon can deal with hair as short as 1mm. Hairs are removed from the root ensuring a longer time between treatments. Lashes: When you have an LVL lash treatment (Length, Volume, Lift), you won't have to worry about smudging your mascara while you're away, with this treatment lasting for 6-8 weeks. It takes just over 1 hour to apply and costs £60.00 which includes a lash tint (please note, a patch test is required prior to application). There are many more treatments available at Eden Beauty Therapy, just pop in and speak to one of the knowledgeable team who will be happy to help and advise you. The Big O Vintage Festival comes to Edenbridge on 6th & 7th July 2019! The Big O Vintage Festival comes to Edenbridge on July 6th and 7th at the Kent and Surrey Golf Club. The Big O which was rated as one of the UK’s top vintage festivals in 2018 by Star Magazine promises to be a wonderful weekend of vintage and retro culture, spanning four decades and will be packed full of classic cars, live music, TV and film props, and DJ’s. The festival is like a living time machine; as you walk though WW2 Britain there will be reenactors and exhibitors representing all walks of life during those turbulent yet romantically nostalgic times featuring a vintage tea dance, live performances from Kitten Von Mew, The Dulcettes and Ryan Hornett. The 1950s marquee will be surrounded by classic American and British cars plus Rock’n’Roll bands including Lady Luck Lexy & the Riverside Boys, Ruby & the Dukes and Memphis Jets. A great attraction will be the jive sessions where festival goers can learn the steps that defined an era, hosted a by a great line up of London’s best 50s DJ’s from Rockabilly Radio. The 1960s zone will pay homage to the styles

and sounds of swinging London with DJs from the best clubs playing the sounds of the 60s. Look out for famous vintage TV and films props from Quadrophenia, The Saint and DR Who, and admire the mod-culture with more cars and the classic scooter ride-in. We are delighted to present the UK’s number one Small Faces tribute band, The “Small Fakers”, who play the main stage on the Sunday. The retro tent also features great DJs playing everything from New Romantics to Soul Disco and Funk , grab a photograph with Kitt the Car from the 80s hit TV show Knightrider and Del Boy’s iconic yellow 3-wheeler from Only Fools and Horses, or rock out to Glam Rock and Ska music on the main stage; grab a bargain at the lovely vintage market with everything from upcycled lighting to vintage clothing, jewellery, bags and shoes. You won’t go hungry for food as some great artisan street foodies who will be on hand along with a selection of specialist stalls and bars. Advance day passes are only £15 per adult (plus £8 for camping) and £5 for kids (5-15) for a day pass, or £35 for the weekend. Tickets are available from www.thebigofestival.co.uk and any potential exhibitors should contact the organisers, Talking Box Events. On the gate tickets are £20 for adults. Event: The Big O Vintage Festival Date: Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th July 2019 Venue: Kent and Surrey Golf Club, Crouch House Road, Edenbridge, TN8 5LQ
