The cost of administration of the Preservation Foundation is covered by the Forest Preserves. This means that, unlike most charities, 95 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to programs and impact on the ground. It also means that your Annual Fund donation, which might typically pay salaries or keep the lights on, can be used to help the Forest Preserves do more. In

MAKING HISTORY One of the largest land acquisitions in Forest Preserve history also received the largest private donation. A $1,085,00 grant from Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation supported the purchase and initial restoration of the Cuneo property, a 371-acre addition to Lakewood. When fully restored, the site will be a complex of prairie, wet prairie, wetlands, and open water.

GRASSY LAKE ELIZABETH AND JAMES BRAMSEN CHALLENGE Private donations are funding the final phase of habitat restoration on the Hurd property, a 110-acre expansion of Grassy Lake Forest Preserve. Elizabeth and James Bramsen offered a generous challenge grant to meet our fundraising goal by the end of 2017.

Donors made this critical public access possible, including a $2 million federal grant and $325,000 in donations by the City of Lake Forest, Lake Forest Academy, Lake Forest Bank & Trust, Lake Forest Open Lands Association, and Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein.

The Middlefork Bridge is being constructed within the footprint of the historic Armour Bridge, which once spanned the railroad tracks. Remnants of the old structure, seen in this construction photo, will remain alongside the new bridge.
