Penny Jones Open Golf Tournament results The 2018 Penny Jones Open Golf Tournament raised nearly $130,000 to benefit LMH Health patients by ensuring long-term support for areas such as mother/baby, therapy services, behavioral health, palliative care and pediatrics. More than 400 community leaders, corporate sponsors, players and volunteers attended this year’s Penny Jones Open, held on Friday, September 7. “The Lawrence community is truly remarkable. We are grateful for what we are able to achieve together as your partner for lifelong health,” said Rebecca Smith, LMH Health Foundation executive director. “We look forward to sharing the stories and outcomes of these funds in the coming months.”
Rock the Block – Kick Cancer 2018 LMH Health Foundation’s annual oncology fundraiser and cancer survivor celebration was a hit. Nearly 600 community members, LMH Health employees and volunteers registered to attend the event in support of our community’s cancer survivors on Friday, October 26. Proceeds from this year’s Rock the Block – Kick Cancer event will support cancer prevention, screening for patients who might not otherwise be able to afford it, and funding for immediate and long-term needs within LMH Oncology. We look forward to sharing final event fundraising totals with you soon.

Frank and Barbara Becker support LMH Oncology survivorship program, nurse navigator position A generous gift from Frank and Barbara Becker helped fund a new nurse navigator position, part of LMH Oncology’s new cancer survivorship program. With the national population of cancer survivors growing, an increasing need exists to provide comprehensive cancer survivorship care to people living with and through their diagnosis. The vision of LMH Oncology’s survivorship program is to develop a comprehensive, whole-person model of survivorship care across the continuum of cancer care. A full-time nurse navigator position was needed for the program to launch. Frank was treated at the LMH Oncology center for a little more than four years, and he said supporting the survivorship program and funding the position was a natural choice. “LMH Health has grown into an outstanding cancer treatment center,” Frank Becker said. “Anytime I’ve visited, I’ve never heard anyone say a discouraging word. I’ve grown to see how good LMH Health is, and it needs a little extra help from all of us.” Frank recently recieved the Elizabeth Watkins Award, LMH Health Foundation’s highest honor, recognizing people and organizations making a significant difference in community healthcare.
