Brown receives community college sexual assault bill

State assembly passes bill creating stricter penalties for campus assaults JONATHAN ANSON NEWS EDITOR

New legislation designed to combat sexual assaults on campus passed last Wednesday in the California assembly of voters. Campus begins smoking prohibition JORDAN RANGEL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Saddleback College began the ban of on campus tobacco use Aug. 17. The new tobacco ban pertains to students, faculty, staff, visitors and the general public that visit the College campus. All tobacco products are prohibited including cigarettes, tobacco chews, cigars, pipes and even vaporizers. Violators may be subject to citation. The new board policy was approved by the South Orange County Community College District and backed by Associated Student Government. The SOCCCD and ASG collectively believe a new non-smoking policy will creating a more educational and worklike institution. SOCCCD made the decision without listening to the voices and opinions of its students, faculty and staff. Although ASG supported the no smoking policy, daily smoking students were ignored. “Students did not have full participation.”said English Instructor Bruce Gilman. Without a doubt the policy would be different or non-existent if daily campus smokers had a representative during the board meetings. Regardless, The biggest issue that arose

Which has been an issue for more than a single semester. Cigarette trash has always been prevalent on campus. “clean your trash” said 18-year old Daniel Bernal. We should all remember particular smokers littering more than one area around campus. It

was hard to see the ground you were walking on underneath all the cigarette butts in places like the LRC. The difference could have been one. One campus smoker speaking to defend and apologize for the trash and nuisance for all campus smokers could have changed the policy. The obvious truth is that this new policy signals a win for non-smokers. But, what does it mean for smokers? “Honestly, I’ll smoke anywhere.” said 22-year-old Patrick Stumps, a biology major. Stumps is a tobacco smoker trying to quit and has admitted that the ban makes it difficult to smoke. Even though the new policy makes smoking a hassle, countless students continue to do so. Cigarette butts are still being found near the library and the smell of smoke still permeates the air. Since the new policy, it’s during the busiest and most crowed times students, faculty and staff smoke. Smoking in a crowd is a way to hide and avoid easy detection from police. New sculpture put on campus The first in a planned series of art pieces is being displayed in front of the library building NICHOLAS LABARBERA PHOTO EDITOR

The Saddleback campus has experienced several transformations over the past year. The newest addition to the campus would have to be the giant art installment in the amphitheater beside the Fine Arts Building that reads “Wonder.” Saddleback College’s art department has teamed up with the city of Mission Viejo to bring art awareness to the Saddleback campus

and the city of Mission Viejo. The wonder art instillation is the first piece in a series of features the department has planned. Artist Joe Brubaker and his group the “Exquisite Gardeners” are the masterminds behind the wonder installation at Saddleback. According to the “Exquisite Gardeners” website, their group consists of roughly 23 ‘curious and hardworking people from all walks of life who work to make transformative art from everyday materials.’ The group has had art pieces and installations featured in galleries and venues across the country and now have their sites set on Saddleback. The “Wonder” project was first displayed earlier this year at the Mission Viejo Arts Alive and Street Painting Festival where volunteers of all ages took turns designing the

6-foot-tall plywood letters with paintings and poems all relating to the notion and idea of wonder. Although the letters were painted and designed by volunteers at the art festival, the “Exquisite Gardeners” incorporated images of gardens on portions of the letters which were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, according the “Exquisite Gardener’s” website. With the goal of the installation being to wonder, the gardeners have achieved just that leaving, Saddleback students wondering just what these letters are and where they came from. “They’re cool but kind of random,” 20-year-old photography student Noah Garret said. “They kind of came out of nowhere, but the art is cool.” While some students appear to show an interest in the art, others have expressed distaste at the location of the installation. “I used to sit there between classes,” 21-year-old film major Jeremy Ellis said. “It’d be nice if they were somewhere students didn’t sit.” Although some may not be pleased with the location, the exhibit has proven to catch students attention. Some have been seen photographing the installation while others continue to sit in the open areas of the amphitheater. For now this remains to be the sole feature bringing art awareness to Saddleback, but in the coming months Saddleback will see another new installment. The gardeners plan to bring their mosaic bear project to Saddleback this November to be erected outside the main entrance to the Learning Resource Center. nlabarbera.lariat@gmail.com

it runs parallel… the question becomes what happens when the two merge?” Linda Fontanilla, vice president of student services at Irvine Valley College, shared in the concerns of Avalos when contacted. She also added it doesn’t address a bigger issue: the lack of student awareness regarding this and other laws meant to attack sexual assault. “We [the college] will follow the law. We will not be out of compliance with the law. But there are a lot of voices on campus that need to be heard on campus about the seriousness of this and there are a lot of people who need to be educated.” SB 186 is one of eight bills currently being reviewed by California Legislature aimed at dealing with sexual assault on college campuses according to the Los Angeles Times.

While the general campus smoker dislikes the new policy smokers looking to quit have found a much-needed push to live addiction free . Helya Goleadi, a 19-year old psychology major and tobacco smoker supports the ban. Goleadi is trying to quit smoking and supposed her smoking increased when on campus. “I wanted to quit but…I would smoke more when other did.” said Goleadi. Smokers and non-smokers alike agree that smoking zones become available. The designated spots are unclear. But, unanimously asked, a good start would be away from the library or any classroom. Diana Ortega an 18-year old psychology major and non-smoker defends smokers by saying “I could care less about the smoke…they should be able to smoke in the parking lot or somewhere far out of reach.”

Tinder: may the battle continue ‘Where’s the beef?’ Said Saddleback man. NICK NENAD

MANAGING EDITOR

From parties to parking, transport to traveling, the world is at the mercy of our fingertips - and relationships are certainly no exception. From the time online communications were invented, dates and mates alike have adjusted and readjusted again to suit the newest method of meeting a partner online. Answers are at your fingertips these days, and now we can click on a button, and boom the answer is there for the world to see. That too, is how dating is becoming apparently. I have a problem with that. The app Tinder is becoming a phenomenon amongst teenagers and adults who are seeking quick hook ups or dates with the opposite sex. Inside the app there are pictures of profiles that you can see and if you like one you swipe right and can chat with the person and potentially set up a date or a meeting. Take, for example, Tinder’s touted “swipe” feature. If a user isn’t too fond of another user, that user is able to swipe left and move onto the next user to judge. What happened to meeting someone in person and asking them on a date? I’d argue infinitely more romantic then “Ay gurl, I sent you an IM and liked ur photo, we should hang out ;) #YOLO,” over an instant message on a smartphone app. I’m not just concerned about

What if a sexual predator gets the app and tries to lure in young adults. Does Tinder have anything in affect to prevent this? The answer is no. Are you willing to take that risk? How I learned to love Tinder JOSHUA ZENT SPORTS EDITOR

A rising number of young men and women are looking for instant gratification, for this topic we’ll say easy access. The recent rise of tinder has given young adults the option to view pictures of potential mates, send messages and find out if the feeling is mutual. This eliminates the treacherous wondering if the inti-

mate encounter your’re interested in feels the same. You chat with people you matched with. These factors lead to greater confidence for individuals needing a little boost, and reduce stress levels. Although Tinder is primarily used to find a quick hook up, it can also lead to a long steady relationship; even dare it say it, marriage! With no surprise the majority of Tinder users are males. Young males receive a lot of peer pressure from their peers when it comes to sexual encounters with potential mates. Tinder allows the otherwise shy and worrisome young man to search for potential hook ups from where he may feel most comfortable. He will also have the confidence to know he is sought after and dramatically increase his chances of telling his friends “he’s the man.” Tinder allows user to view pictures and send messages before you “meet up”. Before Tinder various social media sites were a favorite hook up tactic for young men. Tinder has taken this idea and gets to the point, a favorite saying of young men and women in today’s society. Tinder has recently fell under intense scrutiny and received much of the blame for a recent rise in STDs and infidelity. This is an easy avenue for users to place the blame on someone or thing beside themselves. The truth is that there are many temptations and distractions throughout our lives and its up to us to make our own decisions and live up to them. If someone wants to cheat and/or have unprotected sex that is their decision and must be held accountable. their, and so will I!

cigarette fix. I’ll be blunt; I can’t say smoking has ever offered much good to the individual, outside of being an emo-

tional crutch. Though, the use of vapor-based electronic cigarettes is an idea we should be slightly more intrigued by, or at least become a little less reactive to. Those who are looking to quit smoking can at least do so while not producing a cigarette’s junk-cloud. Hell, I know I can speak for those of us with sensitive smelling: although unsightly, I’d take the chemically engineered strawberry smell of an e-cigarette over the tarry muck of a cigarette any day of the week. The bottom line; yeah, smoking is bad. No, I’m not going to give you your doctor’s speech on why you shouldn’t smoke. What I am going to give you is advice: if you’re going to smoke, vape, or toot your electronic pipe, at least have the dignities to do it off campus out of people’s way. You wouldn’t want California to ban it too, would you? What of Saddleback’s Student Government? What is their authority to enact such a ban? THEY HAVE AN APP FOR THAT I

t’s Friday night and you’re in the mood. That special kind of mood. So you unlock your phone and start swiping though faces on the hookup app of choice until you get a match. The messages begin and before you know it you’re driving to meet up and have a little casual fun. Public health officials all over the country are in a frenzy. Cases of infectious syphilis have increased by 79 percent between 2013 and 2014. Gonorrhea cases have increased by 30 percent since the rise of hookup apps such as Tinder and Grindr. Since 2013 cases of syphilis have grown by staggering 79 percent and HIV infections increased by 33 percent followed by gonorrhea which has grown by 33 percent. “It’s becoming more socially acceptable to have casual sex partners” said Lynn Beltran, an epidemiologist at the Salt Lake City STD Clinic. “For people who are interested in anonymous sex: it is right there at their fingertips.” One in four college students now have an STD according to Stanford University’s Sexual Health Peer Resource Center. That means just about every college student knows someone with an STD, and they may not even know it. A common misconception is that if someone looks “trashy” or “dirty” you can safely assume they have a STD but that’s almost never the case according to Middle Earth, a non-profit, community-based agency that provides services to adolescents. Recent statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Preventions also show that people between ages 1524 account for more than half of the new STD diagnoses each year, which in other words, means young people are

at very high risk and these hookup apps aren’t helping. A 2012 study by the Christchurch Sexual Health Clinic in New Zealand found that Grinder, a hookup app for gay men, was associated with more than half of all syphilis cases reported. “These new data underscore the importance of encouraging young people to begin talking to a doctor, nurse, or health educator about sexual health,” said Rosemary Reilly-Chammat, an HIV/AIDS sexuality specialist for Rhode Island Department of Education when interviewed by CNN. These behaviors include using social media and apps to arrange casual and often anonymous sexual encounters are leading to acts such as sex without condoms and promiscuity. This dramatic spike in STDs is sending a clear signal that young adults are becoming less aware and educated about sexually transmitted diseases and how easily they can catch them. There are still common misconceptions that birth control and spermicides prevent STDs or that you can cure and get rid of all STDs which are both untrue also mentioned by Middle Earth. Teens and young adults are going to do what they want to do. They’re definitely going to have sex but they also need to get educated on the harms and effects of unprotected sex. If not, these statics will continue to worsen and pretty soon everyone you know will have one.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS You can’t catch an STD from having oral or anal sex.

TIPS FOR USING A CONDOM Check the expiration date Make sure the condom package has an air bubble, which shows it has not been punctured Always leave room at the tip when unrolling the condom onto the penis, not before it goes on Never take a condom off and try to put it on again Never reuse a condom

STDs are transmitted through body fluids and/ or skin contact.

You can tell if someone has an STD. Many teens believe that they will be able to tell if some one is infected just by looking at their genitals. This is completely false. Most STDs are not visible at all. You can get an STD from a toilet seat.

False. The viruses or bacteria that cause STDs cannot survive outside of the human body for very long.

Tattoos gaining popularity and acceptance ANGEL GRADY STAFF WRITER

While enjoying a prestigious dinner and receiving top of the line service, you might be completely unaware of the full sleeve underneath the server’s white button down. People of all walks of life are increasing their interest in tattoos. According to NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, 21 percent of Americans report someone in their household had a tattoo in 1999. By 2014, that percentage had doubled to 40 percent. These permanent markings on the body may be simplistic or deeply intricate in design, but the meaning is often personal. They can serve as many things, with signs of love, religion, personal empowerment, loss or gain of a loved one, or plain spontaneity, just to name a few. People are finding more reasons and a stronger desire to express themselves and their emotions through tattoos. The personal importance one places on their particular tattoo or it’s placement on the body varies by the individual, however the personal feelings behind having a tattoo are similar. The Harris Polls conducted a survey regarding tattoos with 2,016 participants, and 30 percent said tattoos made them feel sexier, while 25 percent said they felt more rebellious. Only 16 percent reported feeling more spiritual. When asking those without any permanent body art, the percentages were quite different. Forty-five percent said that people with tattoos were less attractive than those without. Interestingly, this survey reported that 27 percent felt that people with tattoos are less intelligent, as though the decision to get a

The lion on his chest is a symbol of strength, power and pride. He has always liked how a lion represents the incorruptible truth and at times he feels like the king of the jungle. “My family isn’t really for

them,” he said. “They’re just old school and don’t believe it looks good.” According to an informal poll of 100 parents on CafeMom. com more than half said they would never consider letting their teens get tattoos. This is an illustration of how some people of this generation are more likely to be open and welcoming to permanently marking their bodies, there are those of older and earlier generations that tend to be less accepting. Though Horrell places important meaning on each of his tattoos, others do not entirely think things through. For Aaron

Hughes, his gangster in a zoot suit holding two guns with the words silent justice, meant something at that time, but not anymore. “When I was younger I used to fight a lot,” Hughes said. “Everyone knew if I was yelling and screaming, I was calm and wasn’t going to fight. It was only if I was silent, that I was going to fight, give justice.” He does not regret getting this tattoo, however, it was one that was done when he was young. Hughes no longer lives life like that where he is fighting all the time. Also, he was glad it was on his upper arm and could easily be covered with a T-shirt if need

be.

Whether one simply likes the idea of having body art or they carefully select each one, tattoos are gaining more popularity and acceptance. With exception to the thoughtless ones, tattoos are becoming another way to express who you are as well as what you stand for. “I think people should definitely express themselves in any way they see fit. If that means having a tattoo I say absolutely,” said Wendy Garcia, 28, manager of Waterman’s Harbor in Dana Point. agrady.lariat@gmail.com

Keep an ’appy ledger with mobile tools for budgeting BREANNA GREENUP ONLINE EDITOR

Life in college can be tough, and it can sometimes be difficult to find the perfect balance between life and school. It is a time where many of us find ourselves having to budget for the first time. And in the age of the debit and credit cards, budgeting can prove to be difficult. However thanks to modern technology, the simple click of a button can make budgeting simple. Mint. Touted as one of the most popular budgeting apps, Mint connects to your bank account and can update and track your spending habits. It allows you to set and monitor your budgets for categories such as clothing, coffee, groceries, gas or any custom option you desire. It also includes graphs that can track cash flow and spending. This is a nice feature because it visually shows you where your money is spent the most. If you are a first time credit card user there’s a feature that compares the cash in your account to the balance on your credit card. This simplistic feature keeps your finances in check while helping you become

more aware of what your able to afford for that month. My personal favorite is the bill reminder portion of the app. This handy tool helps you stay updated and on track with each billing cycle. It’s an added feature that keeps your finances organized. Good Budget. Like Mint, Good Budget is a budgeting tool that sets a budget for a variety of categories. It has an “envelope budgeting system” in which cash for each month is divided amongst different budget categories. When making a purchase you take the money out of the envelope. It’s a convenient way to visually see your paycheck divided among each category. When you’ve exceeded a budget, the category will change from green to red. This feature has helped me monitor my spending and prevent impulse buys. The app also has the ability to sync to other devices. It allows you to connect to your computers.. And although I’ve never used this feature, I think it’s a great communication tool for families and couples who share their finances. Despite the positive effect Good Budget has had on my finances, there are some drawbacks. Unlike Mint, this app is not

synced to your bank account, which requires you manually enter everything into the app. For example, if you lose a receipt, it loses its accuracy and proves to be a very tedious task. If you enjoy manually entering your spending habits and would prefer not to have your account synced to your account, Good Budget is a safe and effective option. If you prefer convenience and don’t mind

your accounts syncing up, stick to Mint. Mint Bill & Money (Formerly known as “Check”). And because I love Mint so much, third on our list is this handy little app that manages both your bills and money. The reason I love this app is because it doesn’t require me to manually input or write anything down. Even though Mint’s original app has some ability to track and manage bills, Mint Bill & Money takes a more in depth approach. It takes away the all of the stress tied to paying bills by listing all your bills for the month and allowing you to create a billing schedule. What’s even better is that Mint will notify you if your funds happen to be running low. One drawback may be that it does require you to connect your accounts to your app—which gives light to a possible security anxiety. However the app states that it’s monitored by “third party security experts” and gives the option to maximize your security with touch ID or the use of four-digit pin. Despite any concerns with security the app is a useful organizational tool for financees.

Instead of just a competition between the top 20 dancers in America, stage dancers have been battling street dancers in a fight to see which team is better. However, this does not allow for an all-around incredible dancer to win the title of America’s favorite dancer. 3. The top five songs of the summer People have said that Summer 2015 has not been good for music, and that there hasn’t been one summer anthem that the radio stations overplay. I disagree. I think there have been some really catchy summer songs. In no particular order, my top five choices are the following: “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd, “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran, “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes, “Honey I’m Good” by Andy Grammer, and “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon. Both the Weeknd and Shawn Mendes are definitely breakout stars who have flourished this summer with multiple hits in the Top 40. Recently, Ed Sheeran has been a staple in Billboard’s Hot 100 list, and this summer is no different. Andy Grammer’s summer song and Walk The Moon’s arguable summer anthem are catchy and very danceable, which was perfect for the record-breaking summer heat. 4. New lands in theme parks. Over the summer, two major theme parks announced expansions, in a strikingly battle-like

First, Universal Studios revealed that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be coming to the West Coast and making its home in Los Angeles with the rest of Universal Studios. Potter fans all over the West Coast rejoiced that they would no longer have to travel 6 hours to get to wizarding landmarks such as Diagon Alley and Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Disney then struck back by proclaiming that they were opening up a “Star Wars” themed land

in both Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and in Disneyland’s original location in Anaheim, California. 5. “Minions” Personally, I feel as though this summer has been a bit of a snooze in the movie blockbuster department. None of the socalled “movies of the summer” have interested me enough to pay the ridiculous overcharge at the movie theatres, except for “Minions.” While this movie was a huge disappointment, I feel it is still rel-

evant to mention that it did have potential. It was still cute to listen to the minions babble in their gibberish language (which, upon a closer look, sounded suspiciously like Spanish with the addition of one noticeable Hebrew phrase) and discover their trademark blue overalls on their quest to find the evilest villain to serve. 6. Michael Phelps’s comeback Critics have said that Michael Phelps’s competition days are over. They say he’s too old, he’s a bad influence (DUI charge, any-

body?) and that he’s just not the same as he used to be. Well, I hate to break it to those critics, but Phelps is definitely “back” (although he’s arguably never left, despite insisting that he retired). Phleps did not let his ban from this year’s World Championships hinder his defeat of his opposition at the US National Championships. After spending the day digesting South African swimmer Chad Le Clos’s taunts from halfway around the world, Phelps proceeded to beat Le Clos’s time with a whopping 50.45 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly. That’s nearly a second faster than Phelps’s time in the 2012 London Olympics and .10 seconds better than Le Clos’s own 50.56 seconds in the same event in the World Championships a few hours earlier on the same day. Maybe one day the world will learn that when Michael Phelps is challenged, he will only respond with his fastest times, ever. 7. Misty Copeland’s whirlwind summer Misty Copeland has taken the spotlight in so many things this summer. She became the American Ballet Theatre’s first African-American principal ballerina, wrote a memoir, starred in Broadway’s “On The Town,”and made some really memorable advertisements. Copeland has emerged as an admirable role model for young dancers, specifically for those young dancers who have been told that they are not quite right for ballet. She has proven that if you love something enough, you can become the best and overcome difficulties. 8. “Go Set A Watchman” by Harper Lee Everybody remembers being forced to read “To Kill a Mockingbird” at some point in his or her academic career. I certainly do. But I also remember “TKAM” as one of my favorite books that I read (or didn’t read, as the case may be) in high school. I identified with Scout, took Atticus’s advice to heart, was afraid of Boo Radley and felt bad for Tom Robinson. Recently, Tonja Carter, Harper Lee’s new protector, reported that she found this long-lost manuscript and it was published shortly thereafter as “Go Set a Watchman.” This book is about Scout as an adult, and it is a continuation of her discoveries of the world. HarperCollins, the publisher of “GSAW,” announced that it had sold more than 1.1 million copies in a week’s time, making it the fastest-selling book in the company’s history. “GSAW” also rocketed to the top of the New York Times best-seller list, which was expected based on “TKAM”’s success. rsaydman.lariat@gmail.com

Gauchos ladies ready to kick off new season Saddleback will attempt to win conference this season with new players DOMINIC EBEL

ASSISTANT SPORTS EDITOR

The Gauchos have reloaded their roster with some pretty talented athletes coming here competing for spots to play. “We lost a couple of great players. Danyella Allen scored 50 goals in her time here,” head coach BJ McNicol said. “That’s a big number to replace setting the record here.” The talented Allen was double teamed as she was a threat to score even in the toughest Orange Empire Conference. “Last year Allen was the Orange Empire Conference MVP player of the year,” McNicol said. “We could have a couple of candidates who could win that honor again.” The bottom line goal is making the Southern California playoffs as the Gauchos will be setting their sites starting in pre-season and then in the OEC. “Our focus is make it back to the playoffs, make more of a run,” assistant coach Sean Melendez said. “Hopefully the South Orange County soccer fans can come out and give us support.” The rally call is on the

team to earn the desired wins.” This is a good group of soccer players being well coached by McNicol’s staff looking to place players in positions to excel on the field. “We are looking to see if the kids are in their spots, to see who’s going to battle for the starting

spots,” Melendez said. “This year we have a lot of explosive attack oriented players.” It’s going to be tough to replace the loss of Devin Scelsi from last year, as she is attending Washington. For this year, returning midfielder, Danielle Scelsi is mentioned by the coaching staff to

look for her being selected as a candidate for MVP in the OEC. “I think right now we have a standout player in Danielle Scelsi as she is a strong and fit all around player,” Melendez said. “I really feel she is going to have a breakout year and will be in the MVP talks.” Melendez has men-

tioned sophomore, forward Amber Martin as playing out on the wing. She is very creative and will be fun to watch in action. “I think Sean and BJ’s soccer philosophy is awesome and they are doing everything they can to make this team the best team to win,” freshman, forward Emily Monnig said. “ Former JSerra High School keeper Angelica Ramos comes to Saddleback and shows impressive talent. Top keepers start with Ramos who competes with Shana Leventhal, Tamera Attica, Savanna Hilton, and Avalon Mackey. Last year’s keeper, Scott will be a hard act to follow. Another player who will be missed is redshirt sophomore, defender, Julianna Caldwell who anchored the defense last year. “We have a pretty tough pre-season to maximize our power points as all our pre-season games are away,” McNicol said. “We know our Conference is the toughest in the State so we want to prepare with a stringent pre-season as well.” Freshman, midfielder Erika Garcia also said she is bonding with her teammates on and off the field. The Gauchos have been preparing themselves since summer, training in the weight room as well as on the field to bring their best effort as a team this season. debel.lariat@gmail.com

Gauchos aim for success New faces won’t change goal for Saddleback JOSHUA ZENT SPORTS EDITOR

The Gauchos take on Cerritos and kicks-off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. With the new season quickly approaching the Saddleback Gauchos football team is ready for a successful season. While last year had its successes, head coach Mark McElroy has set the expectations even higher after coming off a third season with an even record. The Gauchos averaged 33.1 points per game while allowing opponents to average 28.4 points per game. While still scoring more than the opposition, the Gauchos would like to increase the distance between the two averages. The Gauchos gave up an average of 138.6 yards per game on the ground last season. To have a successful 2015

season that number will have to drop to around one hundred or less. A successful season will not come without its challenges. 75 new freshman have joined the team, with 22 athletes moving on to universities parting ways with several key players. Wide receiver Roderick Dedrick who led the Gauchos in receptions with 62, which was 24 more than the next closest receiver, is off to the University of Arizona. Deep threat Gauchos receiver Christopher Dimry while fifth on the team in receptions finished second in yards, has transferred to Washington State. Kicker Erik Harris has chosen a new destination and will attend Navy. Harris finished 10-13 for the season his longest field goal from 47 yards out. In his last game with the Gauchos Harris finished strong going 3-3.

The Gauchos secondary will have some new faces . This season with defensive back Drake Martinez , a pivotal part of the Gauchos secondary last season recorded 21 tackles, has departed to Big Ten contender Michigan State. Josh Symonette another Gauchos defensive back finished last season with 18 tackles transferred to Dixie State in Utah. There are high hopes for transfer quarterback Johnny Stanton, joining the Gauchos from the University of Nebraska. After a very successful run at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Stanton fell on rough times at Nebraska and is looking to revive his athletic career with the Gauchos this season. The Gauchos are set out to prove thery are a collective unit although the team has new players
