President’s Welcome -“In seeking knowledge, something new is learned. In seeking wisdom, something old is unlearned. To grow, we need to learn, unlearn and re-learn” - Med Jones To grow and to grow wisely are the thoughts I have for this year’s new Breeder’s Directory. This year will mark a time of transition for me as President of the Missouri Red Angus Association to finding a new opportunity to serve this association. By April, 2016 new leadership will be voted on and approved by membership for a new President to emerge for a new 2 year term. It has been an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity and I believe even better “growth” is ahead of the Association. For the affairs of the Association we’ve experienced some very worthy “growth” over the past three years: • Revenue has grown 20.6% over the last three years for our flagship spring sale in Springfield. • Expenses have been controlled as one of the lowest for State Association sales at 3.5-4.0% for commercial consignors and 12.0 - 12.5% for registered consignors. • Our best average $/lot increased to $3,000. We’ve completely re-vamped the leadership in the Board and I’m excited to see the direction this group of strong and wise leaders will take the Association over the next 2 years. The Red Angus breed is growing tremendously and we are witnessing the rise of more Red Angus bull sales within the State of Missouri -- these are all positive signs to a growth of our breed and giving credit to the wise leadership at the national Red Angus Association. The demand for quality Red Angus females is simply too strong to supply, but we should make every effort to place more bulls and females to the cattle operations in Missouri who want this great breed. My final thought on growth...looks at the future in the hands of our children. We need to be wise about nurturing the next generation into effective leadership for the Missouri Red Angus Association. It’s a new direction I want to pursue, to help champion these future leaders and promote a place for them to supply their gifts to the growth and development of the Red Angus breed in Missouri.
