“Photography and art has taught me that anything is possible if you let your imagination run free. Art has enabled me to trust myself more and to continue to strive for growth. Through photography I seek to document my own personal experiences and I find purpose to create from my imagination. The reason I choose to focus on conceptual and staged photography is because it helps me express myself and to identify ways to help me let go of things that cause emotional unrest.

NAHID REZASHATERI Nahid Rezashateri was born and raised in Iran. She studied at an Iranian university where she attended a study group called “The Yellow Flowers” (Gol-e-zard ‫)درز لگ‬. Each member wore a small yellow flower in their hair. Those were years of great dreams, hopes and deep friendships for Rezashateri. After finishing her studies, Rezashateri found herself faced with a crossroads. Her choice was to leave. First to Tehran and then, finally, to Italy.

THE WIND WILL TAKE US AWAY “This work is a tribute to my beloved Yellow Flowers. To their smiles and youthful energy, which I will never forget. It is a journey back to the memories: the desire to reconstruct plots, faces, spaces, moments, and fragments of a life that often seems distant to me, and at other times so intensely close.

PAOLA TORNAMBÈ Paola Tornambè was born and grew up in Rome within a Sicilian family. Her connection to Sicily has always been strong, and her origins have played an important role in her upbringing. This influence is reflected in her work, especially with light and Baroque-style poses. Her works have been featured on several websites and in both Italian and International photography and art magazines, such as Fotografia Moderna; Spazio Art; Micro Arti Visive; Artonweb; Bagzine; F-Stop Magazine; and Shots Magazine. She won Conceptual Artist 2018 from WebArt Expo by Grifio Art Gallery. She has participated in many personal and collective exhibitions, including the Velli Palace Expo in Rome 2019; Cluster Photography and Print Fair by Ugly Duck in London 2020; and Imagination, a curated international group photography exhibition by PH21 Gallery in Budapest 2020. Tornambè was also a national finalist at MarteLive 2019.

STRALUNATICA

“My photography is obsessed with time and long exposure so that my images look intentionally faded, foggy, or ‘in movement.’ I photograph for the opposite reason that is normally expected - not to stop time, but to show its flow. Introspective, dreamlike, and surreal, my pictures are located at the edge between ‘visible’ and ‘invisible’ and can represent deep emotions and feelings, dreams, and the agony of being. It is, in fact, in this field that I can totally express myself and my artistic soul. Stralunatica is the title of this series, which refers to the mental condition, the vulnerability to mood swings, the uncertainty of life, and the coping mechanism of dissociation. The main character of this series is extraneous to reality, lost in her own dreamlike world. It is the story of an internal trip. The desire to escape is so strong, that her mind starts to see what is not actually there.”

“My creative renditions exceed mere aesthetic: I focus on great African themes, styles, and culture. This reflection has the capacity to ignite positive change and to act as therapy to humanity. I explore this idea through painting and mixed media techniques.

#SOLITUDE

“This series explores and reinterprets the figure of the harlequin, a comic servant character from the Italian Commedia dell’arte, popular in Europe from the 16th to the 18th century. Now the young man in disguise is a millennial and he is lonely, almost becoming a pierrot, another character from the same tradition. His beauty, talent, and success are diminished by isolation. We find him completely alone with only the company of his pompous reflection in the mirror moments before going on stage. This is the sacrifice this modern performer has to pay. He is doomed to live in this solitude forever.” Team Credits:

He asked a gypsy, from where she was … who is she...! She answered, “Why bother me, to make me encage myself in a definition … & then trouble … & encage yourself, in an interpretation of me!! By the age of 4, at every hundred blinks I saw colors, shapes .. faces changing, by 15, every ten blinks I saw them changing by 25… every five blinks … Now at 32 … at every blink … they change … Every scar & bruise I have is different from each other, from different lands … I have not found a land yet, which my soul finds native… I might not find it ever, I might not belong here … To none of these lands … Can I be a guest in your land for a while … ?”
