ashley blanton Ashley Blanton’s artwork contains the inky interiors of a nonlinear narrative, a story which is told backwards and forwards, on and across the surface of paper. The separate images compose and contain the folds, fingerprints, stains, and scars of a story that is anonymous yet archetypal, morbid yet metamorphic. The images inhabit a space between murky, starved aspects of experience and instances of resilience, mending, and growth. Ashley utilizes elements of painting, drawing, and collage in an attempt to articulate states of being that are often silent and overlooked. More of Ashley’s artwork can be viewed at her website. www.paperdollparts.com

I was asked to drop Art in high school, which I gladly did, because I couldn’t change the fact that I was unable to complete my painting for my finals. After graduating from high school, I had a difficult time recovering from spinal operation and it put my studies on hold for about 1.5 years. When I was well enough to attend school, I chose Interactive Media Design because of the interest in design. It was because of the period in that course, I was able to pick up drawing again after a long hiatus. I was 20 when I started to draw again and now that I’m 24 years old. I have become fixated on my passion in design, arts and photography. When it comes to art, I have a mindset of a perfectionist: to me, a dissatisfaction in my own artwork is the very reason to challenge myself to do even better. “A way to ensure you keep working – that you keep producing, keep finishing – is to simply keep challenging yourself.” – Tanner Christensen

I am one of those people who feel something and then design. I don’t distinguish green and blue, I run away from easy conversations, from clichés, from crowded places and from dead easy songs. I never wake up when the alarm calls me. I find inspiration during those few hours of the night when people’s lives turn from public to private. I don’t know what art is, but I know beauty. And it is not the same to find beauty than to rediscover it. Beauty is a refuge. Beauty is a parenthesis in time. Beauty makes us travel far away from here, allowing us to understand ourselves and to understand life though our stories. Beauty can be found in everything and everywhere. I rediscovered beauty in typography.

ashley blanton STUDIO ART

Ashley Blanton is entangled in a compulsive need to create. Her desire to find magic in the mundane is perhaps the impetus behind her quiet, thoughtful attention to detail. Moments of connectivity and electricity propel her forward as she searches, senses, and sorts her way through the interstice between internal and external spaces.
