Three Bears Accessories Not Just for Bows “The new brand reflects the company’s evolving mission to broaden its accessory offerings and appeal to a wider customer base.” — Diane Denholm Three Bears Hair Bows, a provider of children’s hair accessories and jewelry for boutiques and gift shops, recently announced the business’ rebrand to Three Bears Accessories. The rebrand represents an expanded business direction and will include a new name, logo and domain. The company will continue to offer sculpted ribbon hair clips, headbands and jewelry aimed at the ten and under set, while broadening its product base to provide an expanded variety of accessories and to appeal to the tween and teen markets. Nearly two years after purchasing Three Bears Hair Bows, a company founded over six years ago in St. Johns County, Florida, co-owners Diane Denholm and Kristen Hyatt are set to effectuate this change. The owners say the move has been planned for some time and was initiated last year with the acquisition of Eliza Kate Headbands, which augmented the company’s hair accessory offerings and expanded product appeal to a slightly older audience. New product roll-outs are planned over the coming year, as well as a streamlining of current product groups. Three Bears Accessories currently offers three coordinating lines designed to perfectly accessorize little girls with hair bows, headbands, jewelry and, most importantly, smiles! What was the inspiration for opening your store? How did it start it? How many years are you in business? Marcia Hecker, (now my businfess partner), started the business in 1973. Believe it or not, her first store was actually in an attic above a restaurant on 9W in Fort Lee. We have been dressing generations of families. It is not unusual for a mother to come in and say “I got my first birthday dress at Marcia’s Attic over 30 years ago and now I am buying a first birthday dress for my own daughter”. It’s delightful to hear that! What are some of the most important categories for your store? What are the best selling items? We sell everything from baby to teen, boys and girls. Our best-selling items include one of a kind denim jackets to custom made apparel. Lets not forget, we stay on top of the

Is any of your merchandise personalized? What are some of the typical occasions that people come to you for gifts? Yes, we carry a great assortment of personalized items. From newborn gifts such as personalized blankets to personalized camp gear and everything in between. Other personalized/custom order baby gifts include: hooded towels, blankets, jackets and accessories. We do a large business with party favors there’s complimentary gift wrap along with a discount for party favor orders. They can be as small as 5 or as big as 500 (yes, we did a 500 pc party favor order). We also deliver so no worries if you can’t make it in to pick up. How involved are you in social media? How important is social media to your company? Social media is very important in today’s world so we are very up to speed with that. We have internal social media experts as well as a team on the outside to help us with all this. We post new arrivals on Instagram and Facebook so that our customers know what’s new. We also have out of state customers who

use our instagram to shop. We also love to see and post pictures of our fashionistas in their Marcia’s Attic attire. How have you managed to keep your company updated and relevant? We follow all the latest trends, shop the market often and listen to what our customers have to say. We try to find them what they want, even if they don’t know they want it yet. How have you seen your business change over the years? We have added to and modified our offerings based on the wants and needs of our customer base, as well as the financial climate. Any news about new merchandise or special events? We are very excited to offer Bella Dahl children for the spring season. Sometimes our mommies like to dress their kids like mini me’s. Bella Dahl is one of those lines that are appropriate and also have the“cool”factor. They join other adult lines who have gone “little” like Rails, Chaser, DL 1961 to name a few. With the holiday coming up so fast, we have booked a few trunk shows to help with the holiday shop. For example: we have “Mother Rockers” coming in

on Oct. 18th. They will be showing their custom made fur lined sweatshirts and jackets. These pieces can be personalized. How has your store evolved over the years? How do you hope to see it evolve in the future? We offer very personalized service to our customers. We keep lists of birthday gifts so items for parties are not duplicated, run packages out to cars, do curbside pickup and even deliver to the homes. These are just a few of the services we provide. If they are busy we make at home appointments as well. Nothing is too much for us to do for our customers! How do you market to your customers? How do you find new customers? We rely largely on word of mouth. Happy customers are our best advertisement. Who are your main buyers/customers? We h av e 3 c u s t o m e r p r o f i l e s . 1- One is the person who comes in for every baby gift they need to buy. They know a gift from Marcia’s Attic for a new baby is very special. 2- The second customer is that grandma who wardrobed her own kids at the attic and now wants to do the same for her grandchildren. 3- The third is the young hip mom who wants all the latest fashion and trends under one roof.

Where do you see brick and mortar stores in the future? There is an opportunity for brick and mortar stores. The opportunity is customer service and knowing the importance of a customer. The on-line retailers have no interaction with the customers and no opportunity to create that personal bond.

How do you think you would be able to expand in the next couple of years? Perhaps with accessories. This is a big part of our business but honestly, we’d need more space!!!

How do you get traffic to your store? We call our customers on a daily basis so let them know what has arrived. They also keep up to date on the social media venues.

How do you manage sizing? We buy all sizes and if we are sold out of a size, we try to special order it for our customers. How do you control your inventory? We have a pos system and a financial planning system which helps us maintain control over our inventory. How do you participate in Black Friday? It varies from year to year but always with something special. Do you have full time employees? How do you manage payroll? Yes, we have full time employees as well as several part timers. Most of the full timers have been with us for many years.

In this undefined realm that goes beyond the five senses, we look to the ‘60s, a pivotal decade when social norms were questioned, taboos were explored and rules were broken. Inspired by the alternative communities of like-minded people who thrived in this counterculture decade, the apparel is quirky, bohemian-crafty and shrouded in a bit of mysterious magic. Semisurreal prints and patterns adorn rich crystal and jewel-hued garments. Silhouettes are comfortable but luxurious in their construction and details. Named after the cookie-cutter, suburban communities of the 1950s, the Levittown narrative represents the underbelly of the American dream. Created as an oasis from congested city life, these developing communities were made available to war veterans wanting to start afresh and retreat to the suburbs. With homes being built assembly style at lightning speeds (each home included a lawn, picket fence and modern appliances), young families fled apartment living for space and solace in the country. But behind this white picket fence illusion was the reality that these homes were only available for white families, consciously creating segregated communities. The Levittown narrative explores gentrification, the erosion of both city life and small towns and the harsh reality behind the screen of suburban bliss. Inspired by mid-century clothing, Levittown views classic Americana with a modern lens. Tweed-like pants are done in a jogger silhouette, varsity jackets updated in colorful shearling and ribbed basics sport retro patterns. Faded washes, jagged hems and pieced-patched effects speak to life’s hardships while the color palette pulls from both pastoral and industrial influences with retro pops.

Nostalgic for the ‘90s, Dial Up rewinds to the almost pre-internet days. Defined by a myriad of trends--from pop music to pogs--it was a time when anything goes, for at least a short period of time. Hey guys, it’s Shayna and I am back with another fashionable tween from Creskill, New Jersey. Twelve year old Peter Dokas has always had a love for fashion. When he was only five years old he realized his passion for fashion. It all started when he first saw photos from the Met Gala and critiqued outfit choices of the celebrities with his mom. For Peter, fashion is a way he is able to express himself in the sense of showing how unique, outgoing, and creative he can be. He stays in tune with the latest trends by watching YouTube videos of people going on shopping sprees and showcasing their looks. This helps him stay in the loop of the newest and most current trends. Peter likes to show off and share his cool looks through his Instagram. Would you prefer to wear summer outfits or winter outfits? Summer outfits, because I like a look with light colors. Whites and oranges are typical colors I like to wear during the summer. For school how long does it take you to plan your outfits? Usually, I pick my outfit out the night before school, that way I don’t have to rush in the morning. It takes me about 10 minutes.

What and who is your inspiration for your style? I would have to say Scott Disick. I like how usually he pairs just a plain hoodie or a long sleeve t-shirt with ray bans, ripped jeans and high tops. That’s my kind of look, casual and simple yet trendy and comfortable. How do you find out about the new trends? I find out about new fashion trends by checking Instagram daily and see what celebs are wearing at the time. That informs me with what is in style and what brands or clothing lines are trending. Do you read or watch anything fashion related to know what is in style? I watch videos on YouTube that talk about the best and worst dressed celebrities at events or red carpets. I also follow vogue on Instagram which shows me the latest trends or styles.

Do you consider yourself a trendsetter? Personally, I would consider myself a trendsetter but a follower as well. I like to come up with new ideas and styles, but am also inspired by other people’s fashion ideas too.

I wear multiple accessories with my outfits including watches, sunglasses, wallets and hats. I have raybans which I wear a lot to events, nights in the city, etc. In addition, I love wearing small white visors backwards. It brings out my sense of fashion in a unique yet cool and trendy way. Do other countries fashion influence your style? Yes, for sure France. Especially Paris as most fashion influencers from there wear small glasses with different colors and heavy fur jackets. What is your favorite store to shop at and why? Although I do most shopping online, my favorite store to shop at would have to be Express. It has everything you can imagine and it’s just my style! I really love the shoes they have. That would have to be my favorite type of clothing at Express. How often do you go shopping? Usually, I shop online just because it has a better variety and it’s more convenient. But, if I do go shopping I go for the four seasons or back to school. How would you describe your style? My style changes very frequently. It depends on what mood I’m in or what I feel like wearing. If I’m in the mood for something summery, I would wear something associated with summer. If I’m in the mood for something fally, I would wear something associated with fall. It doesn’t matter the season! Do your shoes get chosen before or after your outfit? I choose my shoes after picking out my outfit. I wear them depending on what my outfit is.

Do any of your friends inspire you for your fashion choices? A little, but not very much. Famous fashion influencers definitely inspire me a lot more. Do you have a special outfit that you like to wear all the time? No, I have many different outfits that I wear. I don’t wear the same outfit very frequently. Do your outfits change from the weekends to the weekdays? For sure! My outfits on the weekdays are usually more casual than my weekend outfits. When you go out do you wear nicer clothing and try harder with your outfit choices or do you just throw on whatever you see? I would never just throw on whatever I see! I pick out my outfits very thoroughly no matter where I go out! But obviously, I would take more time on my outfit if I’m going to city perhaps rather than school. What is your go to outfit? My go to outfit is a t-shirt, jeans, white high tops, sunglasses and a wallet. I would wear it anywhere! What stores do you shop at? I shop at Express, Nordstrom, Vans, Adidas, DXL and more! Have you ever been to a fashion show before? Unfortunately, no. But I hope to get the opportunity to go to one soon!

Has your style changed increasingly over the years? Yes, I used to be a lot fancier with my outfit choices. Now, I’m definitely more casual and easy going. Do you like to wear only name-brand clothing or will you wear anything? I would wear anything! As long as I like it and it is associated with my style. Do you think the new trends differ from the West Coast to the East Coast? No, I do not because both the East and West Coast see the same trends on social media, magazines and more. What is the trendiest style right now? Personally, I do not think there is a style that is the trendiest. There are so many different fashion influences that come up with their own trendy and creative ideas. What advice can you give other stylish people like you? To always be creative, outgoing, and wild with your outfit choices. And of course, don’t spend too much time on caring about what other people think!
