Kansas State Parks, largely user-fee funded, are great values. For a $5 daily vehicle permit, a family can spend the day hiking great trails, playing on a beach, and cooking up a picnic dinner.

An even better option is the Kansas State Parks Passport Program. For an annual fee of $15.50, the passport allows anyone in that vehicle entry to the parks for the entire year. It can purchased through the county clerk when you’re paying property tax and registration fees for a vehicle, and the passport won’t expire until vehicle fees need to be renewed the following year.

It’s a savings of $9.50 over a traditional annual vehicle park permit, which costs $25.50 and expires at the end of a calendar year.
