Frantz Longhi, Owner of K채hler Design A/S

Welcome to Kähler When browsing through this catalogue presenting the Kähler 2012 collection, you will find both pure, minimalist lines as well as dreamy, organic forms. We have soft, delicate pastels and bright, strong colours. We have vases, bowls, candlesticks, cups, milk jugs, Christmas decorations, USB jewelry etc., which all bring beauty into our everyday lives. At Kähler, we cannot deny our Nordic cultural heritage, which is our natural point of departure, however, the composition of today’s society calls on us to look further and dive into the world. We find inspiration in the people we meet, the journeys we make, the food we taste and the trends we spot. We digest all sorts of impressions and interpret them. Impressions and experiences offer nourishment for creative work within the Kähler universe. We cooperate with a number of incredibly skilled and internationally acclaimed designers, ceramicists and artists, who contribute with their views on the world and, not least, on ceramics. Thus, we never repeat ourselves, but constantly develop and challenge art ceramics to make sure that new objects are meaningful in a modern, complex world. Our collection reflects the world today, where diversity and complexity merge into new, meaningful patterns. We hope that you will pick from the Kähler collection those things that fit into your home and your everyday life together with other beautiful things. To see ceramics in new contexts brings out different facets, and when you put flowers in the vase and your family drinks coffee out of the cups, the ceramic ware comes to life and your home gets a personal touch. Best regards from all of us at Kähler Frantz Longhi, Owner of Kähler Design A/S

OMAGGIO HOME DESIGN RECKWEG & NORDENTOFT

The Omaggio Home Collection is designed in a clean and elegant form language, where the characteristic hand-painted brushwork forms a contrast to the pure lines. The strong Danish ceramic tradition is carried on with the simple and classic design of the Omaggio Home Collection. K채hler in particular is known for this old tradition, and the Omaggio series is a way of showing classic ceramics in a contemporary light. With the Omaggio series, you may evoke a sense of timelessness in your home.

7

The wide brush strokes make you sense the designer who painted them you may follow the movements of the paint brush across the ceramics, and it shows the unbroken connection to design throughout the years. The collection is available in a sumptuous black-and-white version, but also in a number of delightful colours. The collection consists of vases, which are available in four sizes, including the beautiful floor vase, bowls in two sizes, the stylish plate and the classic candlestick, which comes in three sizes.

A special shopping experience

Kähler has presented art ceramics since 1839 – and our flagship store Kähler and friends was created as a room that tells the story of Kähler – then and now. Kähler has always taken pride in working with some of the greatest designers of the time. Previously, they included Thorvald Bindesbøll and Svend Hammershøi, today they include Louise Campbell and Michael Geertsen, among others. Throughout the years, Kähler has been a central part of Danish design tradition, and we are proud of that contribution. The history of Kähler lives on in every new, modern Kähler product that you see today. Kähler and friends M.P. Bruuns Gade 41 DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark Phone: (+45) 86 19 40 00

ORA CLOCK

DESIGN DUE MADSEN & TRAMPEDACH

28

ORA DESIGN DUE MADSEN & TRAMPEDACH

With the Ora clock hanging on your wall, you can enjoy the way the convex figures cast discreet shadows along the rim of the circle. The contrast between the ceramic material and the perspex that the hands are made of gives a modern edge to the simple wall clock. 29

The clean and modern form language with no extraneous details makes Ora a both functional and stylish product. The purity that characterises the form language blurs the traditional barrier between the masculine and the feminine. Ora has a sculptural touch that appeals to both genders, and the clock is not just a practical arrangement that tells time, it is an integrated part of the interior design of your home. Ora is available in six different colours and comes in two sizes; Ă˜ 200 and Ă˜ 300.

Nordisk food with a twist

The Kähler Dining Salon is not a traditional restaurant. Here, our philosophy on quality, aesthetics and presence is embraced and enjoyed every day by our guests and employees. You will find top quality food and wine, attentive service, and the surroundings ooze an atmosphere usually found in the Parisian salons of former times. Sit down by the dark, long table, enjoy the company and the cosy, relaxed atmosphere, which will soothe your body and soul. You will be served wonderful, traditional Nordic food – with a twist – prepared with the best in-season ingredients. The Kähler Dining Salon is a natural outgrowth of our art ceramics – here, we let the ceramic ware interact with the food, the wine and your good company to create a superior experience. FLEX

DESIGN BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN

FLEX DESIGN BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN

Flex is a modern and humorous new interpretation of the classic porcelain figure, which seems quite old-fashioned to many people. Porcelain figures used to be something you were not allowed to touch. Flex departs from this tradition. You will find that its flexible joints invite touch. And this is intensified by the material: Smooth as silk, unglazed, something your hands would like to shape. The lack of extraneous decoration, colour or structure allows the simple design to stand out as the small work of art it is. Thus, the stolid porcelain figure is replaced by a stylistic design object that may currently change shape according to mood. Unlike traditional porcelain figures, Flex must be used to be enjoyed.

MY LIFE USB DESIGN HELENA ROHNER

36

The My Life USB 2GB is an ultra-modern interpretation of the classic medallion, which allowed you to keep pictures of your loved ones close to your heart. We fell for this fine tradition and make sure that it lives on with the elegant USB medallions of the My Life collection, which may be worn around your neck as a functional piece of jewellery. Thus, you can always take a selection of your favourite pictures and important personal documents with you. The My Life series consists of four different designs, each dedicated to the four most important aspects of our lives – My Family, My Work, My Passion and My Secret. Each design comes in four different beautiful colours.

BULBINO DESIGN JEANETTE LIST AMSTRUP

40

The magnificent Bulbino vases are inspired by the beautiful shapes of nature, and they reach for the sun like early flower buds. The crispy and cheerful colours will bring the spring into your home all year round, and one single flower is all it takes to bring life to a room. Arrange the vases in groups on your table or window sill and they will transform into a vivid sculpture which drifts your mind to waving flowery meadows. The beautiful shapes have a sculptural expression which differs depending on which way the vase is turned, and the changeable expression makes the vases fit perfectly on any table setting or tableau. Bulbino is sold in pairs and is available in the colours white, green, blue and yellow.

BOZZA

DESIGN SØREN THYGESEN

BOZZA DESIGN SĂ˜REN THYGESEN

Bozza, sensuous design that literally bubbles with pleasure. The distinctive, bubbling design of the bowl is both organic and expressive. The heaviness of the ceramic material is beautifully contrasted by the base of the bowl which raises the design from the surface and adds lightness to the bowl. Bozza is a functional design object, perfect for freshly picked hydrangeas, fresh fruit or simply as a stand-alone design statement. Bozza is available in three soft colours: White, khaki green and pigeon blue.

FIDUCIA DESIGN LOUISE CAMPBELL

44

With Fiducia, the vase and candlestick have been rethought into a stylisticly exciting and experimental design object, where the individual parts may be combined in many different ways by means of the magnets positioned on their small ‘arms’. The design is clean, simple and strong in its expression and fits perfectly in modern homes. The Fiducia design is characterised by chubby and naivistic shapes, reminding you of charming tumblers. The playful expression makes Fiducia an eye candy, especially when you add a candle and flowers in season - place it on the window sill or include it in your special occasion table setting. Fiducia is the Italian word for trust – and this also characterises these vases and candlesticks: They belong together as a family and cannot stand alone. When standing on the table, they seem to almost hover because of the special design.

DESIGN INGER MEHLUM

SIRIO DESIGN INGER MEHLUM

Sirio consists of tea light holders or bowls shaped as simple and pure seven-pointed stars. At nightfall, when you light the candles, the stars will shine beautifully. The star shape makes Sirio perfect for Christmas, but the timeless and pure form language makes it beautiful all year round. If you arrange more tea light holders in groups, you may create your own beautiful starry sky, which is a treat whether you place a tea light or delicacies for dinner in them. Sirio is available in two sizes.

ILLUMINA DESIGN MICHAEL GEERTSEN

48

The Illumina candlestick is a new interpretation of the classic, Scandinavian chamber candlestick. The nostalgic recognition makes us feel secure, and this new version is made of glazed faience, which becomes it well. The simple form language and the soft colours breathe new life into the classic design. Because of its both classic and modern design, Illumina makes you sense how past and present come together in one and the same product. The fine gift of transforming old design traditions into new products is a rare gift that we cherish at K채hler. Illumina is available in four colours: White, pale yellow, bluish grey and pale grey.

MODERNA

DESIGN HELENA ROHNER

MODERNA DESIGN HELENA ROHNER

The Moderna series comprises four beautiful ceramic Christmas decorations – the snowflake, fir tree, bell and dove – which have been cut out of a paper-thin, ceramic sheet and glazed in soft colours with a coloured string as a stylish contrast. If you hang the decorations on a branch or your Christmas tree, the sky outside or part of your living room may be visible through the silhouette of the decoration. Thus, your world becomes a part of the motifs, and the emptiness and absence of material tell the story of your loved ones and your Christmas decorations. In that way, classic Christmas decorations are interpreted in a modern form language and beautiful ceramic materials. The four Moderna decorations come in one package.

URBANIA DESIGN R7B COPENHAGEN

52

At nightfall, when you light the tea lights in the Urbania tea light houses, light and warmth will flow into your home and highlight your cosy corners. The three Urbania houses are inspired by traditional Christmas decorations and the simple, yet poetic form language makes them fit beautifully in the modern home. They have a modern expression, but at the same time there is something secure and recognisable about them as they provide a pleasant and stylish flashback to the classic village church. The tea light houses are an interpretation of our modern society and one looks like a modernistic block of flats, another calls forth associations of the interior of a church, while a third one is a classic Danish town house. The sizes of the Urbania houses fit in perfectly with the Avvento and Primavera series.

This is beautifully emphasised by the many inviting and playful colours, which complement each other, as well as the dreamy and curved lines. The Mano series comprises cups in two sizes, dessert plates, dinner plates, bowls, teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, jars with lids, flowerpot bowls, which come in three sizes, as well as a jug.

DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN

72

AVVENTO DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN

The four stylised fir trees have a strong expression and may be placed separately or arranged in groups. They form a radiant forest and will make a fine advent wreath. The candlesticks are glazed in unique green colours. They are perfect for Christmas tree candles, and the slim candles go well with the candlesticks; the reflection in the shiny glaze looks amazing. Avvento was designed by Marianne Nielsen, who is also the designer of the Primavera series – consisting of leaf-bearing trees that may be used as vases – and the trees match in size. Thus, you may expand and vary your forest to make it match the interior design of your home. The beautiful Avvento trees are not just for Christmas. They may be used in many different contexts according to taste and the time of the year. The Avvento candlesticks are sold separately, each in a unique green colour.

PRIMAVERA DESIGN MARIANNE NIELSEN

One object – multiple functions. This is the idea behind the Primavera series, which consists of beautiful, stylised leaf-bearing trees. When the vases are not full of flowers, you may turn them upside down and make the fine silhouettes of the trees stand out. They are either vases or small, sculptural objects, depending on which way they are turned. The form language focuses on rings in all four vases, which creates a connection between them, allowing them to be combined freely. The size of the trees matches the Avvento series, which was also designed by Marianne Nielsen, and when you combine the trees from the two series, you may create your own forest tableaus on your table or the window sill. The Primavera series comprises four leaf-bearing trees, each in a unique shade of green.

MARMITTA DESIGN SĂ˜REN THYGESEN

Marmitta is a classic roaster in an elegant black design, where the top and bottom mirror each other. The roaster is an indispensable tool when cooking tasty dishes in the oven. The lid will intensify and preserve the good taste in your food, and that makes Marmitta perfect for baking bread and slow simmer dishes. The porous structure of the clay and the lid effectively encapsulate the contents and seal in the heat, making the bread, meat or fish crispy and juicy at the same time. Marmitta allows you the luxury of cooking your meal over a long time, and thus you may spend the afternoon taking a walk in the woods or laying a beautiful table for your guests while the delightful smell fills the kitchen.

STELLA DESIGN THORA FINNSDOTTIR The snow-white ceramic material that characterises Stella is beautifully lit by the tea lights and will become a sparkling element in your window that will bring joy and show your guests the way through the darkness of winter. The Stella tea light holders have a simple and timeless expression, which appeals to both young and old members of the family. Thus, Stella may become part of the family’s Christmas traditions that are passed on from generation to generation.

12460

The star is one of the eternal symbols of Christmas, classic and familiar. With the two beautiful Stella design objects - the tea light holder and the window ornament - we take the traditional Christmas star into a new age and into the modern and functional home. 12461

PURA DESIGN CECILIE MANZ Pura lives up to its name. The form language of the series is minimalist and delicate. The bone china has a pure and refined expression and the translucency and whiteness of the china give the design a glowing purity. The form and expression of the design, uncompromisingly reduced to pure function, make the series multifunctional – all parts may be used in different ways. The plates, for instance, may be used as lids to the bowls. The series is perfect for the minimalist home with no room or desire for superfluous objects. Lay the table with Pura and the elegance of the series will manifest itself – and the food you serve on the plates and in the bowls will receive maximum focus. No superfluous details will disturb your guests’ perception of the colours, taste and consistency of the food. The Pura series comprises plates in two sizes that may be used as either saucer, dish or lid to the two bowls that the series also includes. To this should be added cups in three sizes as well as a jug.

KÄHLER DESIGNERS

1 Reckweg & Schou Nordentoft (Stilleben) Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Schou Nordentoft both graduated from the Danish Design School (Ceramics and Glass Design) in 2001. They run the design store Stilleben. Stilleben sells simple and functional design products, and focus is on precise design and materials and surfaces which underline the product in the best possible way. 2 Jeanette List Amstrup Jeanette List Amstrup graduated from the Danish Design School in 1994. Since then, she has operated her own studio and has worked for Royal Copenhagen and Höganäs Keramik, among others. Jeanette List Amstrup is known for her organic form language with soft and round shapes. This is also very much reflected in her work for Kähler. She has been attached to Kähler since 2007. 84

3 Louise Campbell Louise Campbell graduated from the Danish Design School as an industrial designer in 1995. She is one of Denmark’s greatest talents in design and is particularly known for her furniture and lighting design. Louise Campbell’s design is playful and experimental and is increasingly gaining a reputation for gently twisting not only everyday products and situations, but also materials and manufacturing processes, in new directions. 4 Søren Thygesen Søren Thygesen graduated from the Designskolen Kolding in 1987. With more than twenty years of experience as a ceramicist, including a number of years at Kähler, Søren Thygesen is highly experienced at his trade. 5 R7B COPENHAGEN Mette Bache and Barbara Bendix Becker both graduated from the Danish Design School in 1996, and after that they teamed up to form the design duo R7B Copenhagen. The two designers have recently opened their eyes to the endless possibilities of ceramics. They both share a passion for reinterpreting and breathing new life into old objects through contemporary designs. 6 Michael Geertsen Michael Geertsen graduated from the Danish Design School in 1993, and his high artistic quality has made his art known throughout the world. He finds inspiration in the meeting between function and sculpture – and his work draws a clear line back to classic ceramics, but shapes and colours are used in such a way that the observer is challenged. 7 Jonas Trampedach Jonas Trampedach graduated as a designer from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen and the Royal College of Art in London. He has also worked as an international antiques dealer. In 2010, Jonas Trampedach set up his Copenhagen-based studio, primarily working in the fields of product and furniture design. Therefore, he brings a new angle to the ceramic material when he works for Kähler.

8 Birgitte Due Madsen Birgitte Due Madsen graduated as a ceramicist from the School of Design, Bornholm in 2005 and as a product designer from the Danish Design School in 2008. She has exhibited at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition and at the Designmuseum Danmark. Birgitte Due Madsen wants her work to stimulate the interaction between the observer and the object. 9 Cecilie Manz Cecilie Manz graduated from the Danish Design School in 1997. Since 1998, she has operated her own design studio in Copenhagen. Here she designs furniture, glass, lamps and other related products, primarily for the home. Cecilie Manz often finds inspiration in insignificant everyday situations, and she subsequently develops her ideas. Some never leave the drawing table, whereas others take shape and become functional everyday objects. 10 Marianne Nielsen Marianne Nielsen graduated as a ceramicist from the Designskolen Kolding in 1999. Since then, Marianne has operated her own studio in Copenhagen, where she primarily creates unique artwork, which is displayed all over the world. Marianne Nielsen has exhibited at different international venues and has developed a number of designs for Danish Crafts collections. 11 Helena Rohner Helena Rohner was born in the Canary Islands. She was educated in London and in her early years she worked with renowned jewellery designer Jaqueline Rabun. Since then, she has designed exclusive collections for Paul Smith, Georg Jensen and the Guggenheim Museum and has established her own studio and gallery in Madrid. Helena Rohner is known for her sculptural and feminine ceramics. 12 Thora Finnsdottir Thora Finnsdottir graduated from the Danish Design School in 2009.
