J&C TABOO RULES 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

There shall be two teams of roughly equal size. Each round shall last sixty seconds. During each round, only one player (the “giver”) shall attempt to give clues to her teammates. A player from the other team (the “judge”) shall observe the giver. The giver must coax her teammates into saying the keyword (in bold at the top) on the card without using any of the taboo clues. 6. If the giver says the keyword or any of the taboo words, or any variants of those words, the card is discarded. For example, if the keyword is “pine tree” and one taboo word is “evergreen,” then the team loses the card if the giver says “pine needles,” “pine cone,” or “green.” 7. Only verbal clues are permitted. Nonverbal sounds (for example, meowing for the keyword “cat”), gestures (pointing at someone), and pantomimes are not allowed. Breaking these rules results in loss of that keyword. 8. Using charades-style clues (“sounds like” or “rhymes with”), abbreviations, acronyms, homonyms, etc. are also not allowed. Breaking these rules results in loss of that keyword. 9. The round continues until time is up, at which point the team counts up the number of main words that they correctly guessed and adds that number to their score. 10. At the end of the round, play passes to the other team. 11. Play continues until we run out of cards. At that point, the team with the highest score wins.
