Brametot

SINCE the Prix du Jockey-Club (G1) was shortened in 2005 three horses have successfully completed the Jockey-Club/Poule d’Essai des Poulains double – Shamardal in 2005, his son Lope De Vega five years later, and in 2017 Brametot joined the pair in that illustrious club.

From the first crop of the Aga Khan’s Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner Rajsaman (Linamix), Brametot is the outstanding horse from his sire’s progeny to date.

He also boasts an impressive pedigree, and one that explains his transfer from Haras du Bouquetot to Getuet Ebbesloh for the 2020 season – his dam Morning Light is a Law Society half-sister to the brilliant racehorse and eminent sire Geran-based sire Monsun.

Although Brametot, who was an inexpensive purchase by Sylvain Vidal at the Arqana December Sale, has strong stamina influences in his pedigree, he demonstrated speed and precocity in his racing career, winning over 6f and seven and a half furlongs at two, and earning his first black-type when successful in the Listed Grand Criterium de Bordeaux in his juvenile season.

At three, two of his career victories came over a mile – he warmed up for the first of his Classic wins with success in the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau before stepping up to 1m2f in the Prix du Jockey-Club

(G1). His only attempt over 1m4f came in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when he finished fifth behind Enable, Cloth Of Stars, Ulysses and Order Of St George.

Amongst those he defeated during his career were Group 1 winners Waldgeist, Le Brivido, Rivet, National Defense, Recoletos and Taj Mahal.

His first crop has 33 listed foals and he had just two foals offered at public auction last winter, both at Arqana.

Sylvain Vidal, who identified Brametot as a foal, purchased a halfsister to French Listed winner and Group 2 Prix Hocquart-placed Orbec, who was also Group 3 and Listed placed in Australia. Consigned by Haras de Montaigu, the February-born filly made €8,000.

Brametot’s first book contained a number of well-bred mares including Anew, an Oasis Dream half-sister to Group 2 Prix de Mallerot winner Treat Gently, out of Kid Gloves, an In The Wings half-sister to Juddmonte matriarchs Hasili and Arrive.

Also part of Brametot’s first book was La Folie, a Footstepsinthesand mare out of Flames Last, a winning Montjeu three-parts sister to Salsabil and half-sister to Marju.

At this year’s Arqana February Sale, Taleman carrying a Brametot half-sibling to Listed Prix Finlande winner and Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary Olendon, made €46,000 to Peter and Ross Doyle.
