MARSALA

This issue of Impressions Bride celebrates Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala. Much like the Ž fortified wine that gives Marsala its PANTONE name, this tasteful hue embodies 18-1438 the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. Equally appealing to men and women, Marsala is a stirring and flavorful shade for apparel and accessories, one that encourages color creativity and experimentation. Flattering against many skin tones, sultry and subtle Marsala is a great go-to color for beauty, providing enormous highlight for the cheek, and a captivating pop of color for nails, shadows lips and hair.

TRENDINGNOW

A ROUND UP W

of what’s trendy for ‘15

hether you’ve begun your wedding preparations, or just don’t really know where to start, if 2015 is the year you’re getting married, here’s a round up of everything you need to know in terms of trends... so nothing is missing from your big day!

The biggest trend in décor and themes for 2015 weddings is undoubtedly the bohemian-chic or rustic style– informal and unconventional weddings

are trending. The idea is to create a very personal and intimate atmosphere, almost homey, as if we had brought together our family and friends at home. In this theme, the focus is on long wooden tables instead of round ones and wooden chairs or benches, as well as white twinkly lights as a key element in decorating and creating this cozy environment. For brides and grooms who simply won’t give up on their idea of a glamorous wedding, in terms of décor, copper

becomes a good alternative to the typical gold and silver.

Colors Used together or separately, these are the main trending colors for 2015 weddings: blue (navy, royal, baby); pink (pastel, peach, coral); red (sangria, burgundy); brown (light, beige, sandalwood, roasted); neutral (ivory, cream, pastel yellow, gray); green (aqua green, khaki, deep green, sage green); purple (lilac, lavender); luxurious (gold, silver, copper).

Flowers According to the 2015 trends, the flowers used in weddings are also going to be of rustic and country inspiration – with floral arrangements and bridal bouquets composed of flowers that seem freshly picked right off the field. Using seasonal flowers remains a huge trend, as well as incorporating the season’s elements in the arrangements themselves: chestnuts, pine cones and acorns, if we’re talking about a fall wedding; or a wool-wrapped bouquet, when planning a winter wedding. For spring-summer weddings, the trend is the use of pastel colored flowers or total white. For more sophisticated weddings, ultra-luxurious flower arrangements are trending, especially romantic and large petal flowers – like orchids, hydrangeas and hyacinths – while avoiding exposed leaves, branches and stems. 4

TRENDINGNOW Catering & Cake Depending on the wedding theme (and the available budget!), there are two options for wedding catering in 2015: a tasting menu with several small doses and impeccably presented dishes, in the style of true Michelin star restaurants. On the other hand, there is also emphasis on home cooked and lovingly served meals, based on local and organic products. Regarding the wedding cake, the classic tiered cake is back – with or without frosting – and it should be big, beautiful and, of course, delicious. Another trend for 2015 is the option of serving the cake as dessert.

big and make a true statement.

The Groom’s Look The groom was not forgotten in the 2015 wedding trend forecast: retroinspired, slightly looser suits, are back... but be careful, they’re not for everyone! Alternatively, there is also

a return to the past of true Englishmen and their brown tweed suits, vest included. For those grooms aiming for a more contemporary and bolder look, we must highlight the following trends: pastel pink suits, neck scarf instead of a tie and small Continues on next page

Wedding Dress 2015 brides will have many and gorgeous trends to choose from when it comes to wedding dresses: it’s going to be a year of vintage dresses, with defined silhouettes, but also models with off-the-shoulder tops, either on one side or both. In terms of necklines, we highlight two trends: higher necklines with embroidered details, and deep V necklines. Other trends in wedding dresses that are worth considering for 2015 include: dresses with pockets, dresses with lace sleeves, dresses with small capes for the shoulders, dresses with sparkling appliqué and dresses in pastel colors, namely pink, mint and gray.

Accessories for the Bride In terms of accessories for the bride, flower crowns are here to stay and are beautifully consistent with either a rustic wedding or a boho-chic wedding. Veils also return in full force and are an option for any bride, regardless of the style or wedding dress chosen for the big day. Once more discreet, in 2015, earrings and necklaces worn by brides should be W W W.FA C EB O O K .C O M / IMP RES SI O NSB RID E

Invitations The rustic inspiration that dominates a good part of the 2015 wedding

trends is also extended to the invitations. In addition, the focus is mainly on the font or fonts used, giving great importance to what is written, and thus becoming the focal point in terms of design. In lettering, silver will substitute gold. Alternatively, in 2015, we’ll also see many wedding invitations inspired by

watercolors and pastel hues, mainly pink and skin colored. The invitations in unexpected shapes, cutouts, and poster style are other ideas to consider if you’re looking to create a unique  wedding invitation. article and photo courtesy of stylishweddingideas.com

YOURBEAUTY

PRE-WEDDING

beauty tips for the bride

Y

ou want everything to be picture perfect for your wedding, including your smile. But like everything else about your big day, that perfect smile could require some work ahead of time. In fact, experts suggest starting your entire beauty regimen six months before the wedding. Here’s a complete pre-wedding beauty checklist.

Lips Get soft, kissable lips by brushing away flakes of dry skin with an infant toothbrush soaked in baking soda and water. Apply healing ointment, and in no time, your lips will be ready for that “kiss the bride” kiss.

Teeth A cosmetic dentist can often correct an imperfect smile with veneers. But if spending painful hours in the dentist’s chair getting your teeth ground down sounds like it would put a damper on all the joyful planning, here’s good news: Lumineers (www.lumineers.com) are now used by thousands of dentists nationwide and can be applied in two short, pain-free appointments. Unlike other veneer procedures, Lumineers are so strong and thin that they don’t require removal of sensitive tooth structure. The procedure is quick, painless and even reversible.

Makeup Women with warm skin tones look best in makeup with pink, coral, peach, amber, brown and red with yellow undertones. If you have a cool skin tone, choose pink, berry, lilac, mauve or red with blue undertones.

Skin Make your face glow with a good cleansing program. Use a cleanser that’s appropriate for your skin type in the morning, makeup remover and cleanser at night and a daily moisturizer. Use a gentle facial scrub once a week.

Hair If you’re planning to change your hairstyle or color, experiment several

W W W.FA C EB O O K .C O M / IMP RES SI O NSB RID E

Impressions Bride 2015 Vol 6.indd 7

months before the wedding so you have time to correct any mistakes.

Nails If you’re a biter, get weekly manicures to keep your nails healthy. Plan your last manicure a couple of days before the big day. Choose a pretty pale pink or splurge on a French manicure, not just because it looks great, but because the chips won’t show as much and are easy to fix. You’ll have beautiful hands for the festivities. Don’t forget, practice makes perfect. Schedule a trial run with your hair and makeup artists several days before your wedding, so there are no surprises the day of the ceremony.

PERFECTENGAGEMENT

POPPING THE QUESTION

the rules of engagement T he engagement ring symbolizes your promise to love and cherish your partner forever, and shows the world your commitment to your fiancée. Many women dream about their

engagement ring their entire lives, so choosing the right style is of utmost importance.

Here are tips to ease the pressure of finding the ring and proposing:

It’s not just about the diamond

A ring’s setting is as important as its diamond because the setting displays and secures the stone. Platinum provides an ideal ring setting as it’s stronger than other precious metals, which means that you don’t have to worry about losing the center stone with everyday wear. Platinum is a naturally white metal, allowing the diamond to sparkle even more brightly. Did you know that a platinum engagement ring will last forever? Since platinum is so durable and loses little metal over time, the ring will undoubtedly become a family heirloom that can be passed down for generations to follow. And platinum engagement rings are surprisingly affordable. Contrary to popular belief, they are available in a wide range of price points, starting at around $1,000 at BlueNile.com.

Know her style Before you go to the jewelry store, know your future fianceé’s style, personality and lifestyle since there is a ring to suit her perfectly. For example, a woman with a hands8

PERFECTENGAGEMENT on job, like nursing, might prefer a simple band with a secure setting, while a woman who has a less active job might want something more intricate. A woman with classic style will want a different band design than a trend-setting fashionista. “A classic polished platinum band from Michael Barin will suit a girl with more traditional tastes, while a birth stone of colored diamonds on an embellished band like one from Suna Bros. will look bold and unique,” says jewelry and style expert Michael O’Connor. “To figure out her ring size, press one of your girlfriend’s rings in a bar of soap until it leaves a mark. You can also put one of her rings on your own hand, mark where it falls on your finger and have the jeweler measure that area,” suggests O’Connor.

How to propose Some women want a public proposal in front of friends and family, while others want something private and special. In either case, your fiancée will remember the day for the rest of her life. Think about what your fiancée likes, and where and how you met. PLANNINGBLISS

SAYING ‘I DO’

F

and loving it, too!

or many brides, the quest to plan the perfect day can quickly turn into a nightmare trip down the aisle. Here are a few tips to keep your wedding day bliss from turning into the honeymoon blues.

Marriage Planning 101 Once the ring goes on, the race to plan the perfect wedding begins, giving couples little time to think about the marriage itself or how their wedding

spending decisions could affect their future. But smart couples are now setting aside time to address prewedding issues such as what they will do when it comes to financial planning, spending money, raising children and family politics. With nearly half of all newlyweds taking on debt to finance their “big day,” couples should take every opportunity to make their wedding-

related and everyday spending count toward their future. One unique new rewards program, uTANGO.com, offers couples $10,000, $100,000 and even $1 million in cash rewards to stay married and shop with uTANGO’s 250-plus merchants such as Expedia, Target.com, Nordstrom.com and BlueNile. In addition to helping couples save for their future, uTANGO.com offers free advice from wedding, financial and relationship experts. By taking a proactive approach, couples can leverage their wedding spending to ease financial worries and start building toward their future.

Destination USA While destination weddings, especially to international locales, continue to be one of the hottest wedding trends in recent years, they can also present challenges such as increased costs, security concerns, language barriers and unreliable vendors. A less expensive alternative is to pick a centrally located U.S. city like Chicago, known for fantastic wedding and party venues, choice accommodations and activities to suit any taste and budget. It may not be as exotic as Tahiti, but couples often find that more family and friends can attend and planning challenges are drastically reduced when the nuptials stay stateside. 10

PLANNINGBLISS Managing expectations For many brides, planning the perfect wedding is a major life event decades in the making. With this in mind, it’s easy to see how wedding expectations can get out of hand in a hurry. With wedding euphoria taking over, busy brides and grooms can quickly lose sight of spending, causing the perfect wedding to turn into fights over money. By managing expectations of what a “dream” wedding should be, it is possible to have a lovely and elegant wedding without breaking the bank.

Bridezilla-free zone The term “Bridezilla” has been used to describe a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride whose obsession with planning the perfect wedding day leaves frustrated family, friends, bridal vendors and even her groom distraught in her wake.

The massive to-do lists handed out by brides, coupled with obligatory appearances for shopping, parties and showers, can leave bridesmaids feeling underappreciated, overworked and broke after the wedding is over. Brides should be upfront about both time and financial expectations with their friends when asking them to join their wedding party and understand if the answer is no. 

article courtesy of news usa and written by martie duncan, a nationally renowned wedding expert who has worked in the industry for over 20 years. she has consulted on episodes of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and the film “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and is currently editor in chief of the utango.com lifematters e-magazine (www.utango.com/LifeMatters).

Belligerent Bridezillas beware: Horror stories of fist fights, hair pulling, kicking and screaming from out of control brides-to-be have put wedding planners, vendors and bridesmaids on the offensive. Some vendors now go as far as to include language in their contracts reserving the right to cancel if the bride’s behavior is determined to be “out of control or abusive.” So, whether you hit the gym or hit the spa, have a plan in place to handle wedding-related stress and keep Bridezilla at bay.

Just say “no” Brides place such demands on their bridesmaids these days that it is not uncommon for them to decline, even when it’s one of their best friends. Not only is the financial responsibility of being a bridesmaid staggering, but the time commitment demanded by some brides is also daunting. W W W.FA C EB O O K .C O M / IMP RES SI O NSB RID E

10 QUESTIONS TO ASK when hiring a photographer S ome moments are simply much too important to trust to a cellular phone camera.

Your wedding will be one of the most memorable times of your life and no one can capture it better than a professional photographer. So how do you find the right one?

As you begin the interview process, here are 10 questions to help you determine if you’ve found the best photographer for your wedding.

1. Does the photographer have a gallery of wedding images you can review?

Reviewing sample work allows you to see the photographer’s strengths and weaknesses - don’t fool yourself, every photographer has them. You’ll also be able to get an idea of their style. Are they formal with an eye for the perfect picture or do they love to capture the hidden moments when no one is looking? Look for images that you can see yourself in. Think of three words that describe you and share those with your photographer. Every photographer has a style and reviewing their gallery can help you determine if theirs is right for you.

2. What is the photographer’s working style? Some photographers are orderly and operate like wedding planners. Others prefer to sit back and let the events of the wedding unfold. It’s

3. Are they available for an engagement session?

equipment to deliver the images your wedding deserves.

6. Does the photographer have backup equipment? You’ve prepared contingency plans for every other aspect of your wed

ding; your photographer should as well. A professional photographer won’t miss your perfect shot because of a technology issue. He/she will always bring one/two backup cameras, lenses, flashes, extra lighting, memory cards, batteries, etc. Continues on next page

An engagement session does more than provide you with priceless images together before you get married. It’s also your first opportunity to work with your photographer and develop a relationship that will allow you to be completely at ease on your big day. Use this session to confirm if the photographer is indeed the right person to capture your wedding.

4. Can they create a detailed shot list? This list will ensure no important photo is missed during the commotion and excitement of the big day. You should be able to create that list together, add to the list leading up to the day and have a copy of that list the day of. Take an honest look at what images really matter and fill your photographer in on situations he or she might need to be aware of in order to prevent awkward moments, and to ensure that he or she can get the shots that matter the most to you.

5. What kind of lighting will they be using? Whether you have an indoor or outdoor wedding, you’ll want to make sure your photographer has professional grade lighting W W W.FA C EB O O K .C O M / IMP RES SI O NSB RID E

7. Does the photographer have liability insurance? Accidents happen at weddings and if one of your guests trips over your photographer’s light stand, it’s good to know you both are protected. Your reception venue may even ask the photographer to submit a certificate of liability ahead of time.

8. Will there be one photographer or two shooting at your wedding? A second shooter increases the probability that no shot will be missed, especially if you are having a large wedding. If there will be two

Just as brides come in different styles, so do wedding photographers. You’ll need to choose the best fit for your personality.

PERFECTPLANNING You might even be able to agree on getting a couple of images ready for social media use very quickly. But obtaining your final photos will most likely take several weeks. To help with the wait, some photographers will send you a sneak peak with a few images. Just ask ahead of time!

photographers, ask to meet them both to get a feel for their personalities and how well they might blend in on your big day.

9. What will happen to your images after your wedding is over? Will your images be backed up to a hard drive or the cloud once processed? How long will your photographer keep the images afterward? Will they be kept for a couple of years or dumped immediately? If you have any concerns about losing your photos, knowing what the photographer plans to do with your images after your wedding is important.

10. When will you get your photos? No, you won’t get your pictures the day after; no photographer can deliver that quickly. But, it’s a good idea, though, to get a general idea of the timeline ahead of time.

PLANNINGCHECKLIST

WEDDING

P

lanning a wedding can be very stressful, with tons of details to be taken care of. The most important thing is to stay organized. Checklists help you understand what you need to do and when. Follow this timeline to help you track what’s done and what’s left to do.

10-12 MONTHS before the big day…

l Introduce the families; officially announce the engagement. l Find out who pays for what and start a budget. l Create a guest list and manage it with our easy-to-use tool. l Compare calendars and select a tentative date. l Choose your wedding party. l Create a wedding website to share your engagement. l Consider whitening your teeth for parties and photographs. l Interview and hire a wedding coordinator, if needed. l Decide if you want premarital counseling. l Start looking photos of wedding dresses for inspiration. l Send your engagement photo to the local paper. l Begin thinking about where you want to honeymoon. l Visit and book your reception site, and arrange for parking. l Visit and book your ceremony location and rehearsal time. l Create a save-the-date guest list.
