A GUIDE TO INVISALIGN BRACES

HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK? Invisalign braces work by gentling moving your teeth into their correct position. Unlike conventional braces which use wires and brackets to pull your teeth into place, Invisalign is a pain-free treatment. To begin Invisalign treatment you will first need to undergo an initial consultation. During your initial consultation, your dentist will discuss with you the issues you have with your teeth and the results that your trying to achieve. If your dentist believes Invisalign is suitable for straightening your teeth, with your goals in mind they will then put together a treatment plan. Once this has been put together, your dentist will then take impressions of your teeth and send the impressions to the Invisalign laboratories for processing. The impressions made of your teeth will also be digitised into a 3D image. Using a computer your dentist will be able to plan the movement of your teeth throughout your treatment. At this stage you will be able to see a virtual 3D treatment plan and will be able to view your teeth as they currently are, your teeth throughout the process and how your teeth will look once treatment is complete. With your treatment plan agreed, your bespoke Invisalign aligners will be custommade for you. These then have to be worn for approximately 2 weeks until you then switch to the next aligner in the series. The number of aligners varies from patient to patient but on average a full treatment will include 18-36 aligners for both the upper and the lower teeth which will take approximately 9-18 months to complete. WHO WILL IT WORK FOR? Invisalign braces will work for a wide variety of people. Using the braces can correct the following issues: Overcrowded teeth - this occurs when there is simply a lack of room within the jaw to accommodate all of the teeth normally. Crossbites - this occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It will usually cause one or more of the upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth. Overbites - an overbite occurs when the upper teeth overlap significantly over the lower teeth. Underbites - these occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. To find out for sure if Invisalign is the correct treatment for you, it’s important to have a consultation with an experienced Invisalign practitioner as it will often differ from patient to patient.
