MESSAGE FROM SCORA DIRECTOR Dear SCORA members, SCORA community is growing and growing and your amazing efforts into creating a world where every individual is empowered to exercise their sexual and reproductive health and rights free from stigma and discrimination, are what brings us together. All those efforts are something worth sharing and we’d like to provide a platform to do so. In addition to that, aiming to establish frequent and efficient communication with you and developing at the same time a channel to hold the International Team accountable and increase transparency, we came up with the initiative of issuing a SCORA bimonthly newsletter where you find the most relevant information in the same place and you can get inspired by what’s going on in SCORA all around the globe. We hope you engage and enjoy the reading! Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to any International Team member for further clarifications and comments. Hugs, Lalu, SCORA Director 2019-2020 On behalf of the International Team and SCORA Programme Coordinators 2019-2020

FULFILLED CAMPAINGS

INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST ERADICATION VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

25th Nov

We kickstarted our campaigns teaming up with SCORP for one big Universal Children's Day and International Day of Eradication of Violence Against Women campaign. In our posts, we went through the roots of violence with rape culture in focus as a specific form of violence against women tackling concepts such as consent and bystanders intervention. Moreover, we highlighted universal documents calling for the cessation of violence and shared with our members various resources and sessions enforcing their advocacy efforts.

FULFILLED CAMPAINGS

WORLD AIDS DAY

1st Dec

We rocked the WAD! This year, the World AIDS Day was tackled with Communities at the centre and a strong focus on the 90 - 90 - 90 goals in addition to different pillars of action (medical, social and advocacy). The HEAT manual (to be released soon) will be a culmination of WAD, providing the necessary tools and resources to facilitate the training and empower our members to advocate for people living with HIV.

AFRICAN REGIONAL MEETING Where: Lilongwe, Malawi When: 18-22 December The African Regional Meeting (ARM2019) is themed Health Financing: Strategic Pathway to Universal Health Coverage. As medical students we are familiar with topic of UHC and the impact it can have on the health of everyone more especially the rural and had to access areas. However, realisation of all components of UHC requires multidisciplinary approach. Of significant importance is financing the health sector. Unfortunately, most African countries cannot achieve the Abuja Declaration.

ARM and SCORA SCORA sessions will tackle topics such as: abortion, maternal health, menstrual hygiene, SOGIESC, HIV stigma, consent and advocacy. They align with the topic of the event and cover the part of healthcare coverage and finances.

pre-ARM Unfortunately, for this year ARM there are no SCORA workshops performed during pre-ARM.

AMERICAN REGIONAL MEETING Where: Curitiba, Brazil When: 6-11 January The American Regional Meeting (AmRM) takes place at the beginning of each year. Delegates from all the Americas’ NMO are selected to participate in this important meeting to strengthen and globalize our stance on the challenges and tasks we are dealing with in today's world. In addition to creating partnerships and friendships that cross borders and connect the world form more empathy and diplomacy.

AmRM and SCORA For the SCORA session agenda, we have prepared a variety of SCORA themes adapted to the social, cultural, political and religious realities of our beautiful region. It will be focused on SOGIESC, SRHR and migration movements, feminism, access to safe abortion and STIs.

pre-AmRM pre-AmRM takes place before AmRM and it includes variety of workshops and trainings. It will be held from 2-6 January SCORA-related workshop will be: Ipas Women’s Reproductive Health and Access to Safe bortion Workshop.

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN REGIONAL MEETING Where: Amman, Jordan When: 5-9 February The Eastern Mediterranean Regional Meeting this year is more known under the abbreviation EMR16. This event is done regionally to strengthen NMOs and standardize their work. Each NMO chooses their delegates and sends them to this event to attend sessions. It is similar to international GAs but it focuses on the region. This year’s theme for EMR16 is JUNIOR DOCTORS TAKING ACTION, which is basically an umbrella to everything we do in IFMSA.

EMR16 and SCORA For SCORA, it tackles regional priorities and the common loopholes found in the region, for instance how to create a safe space free of stigma and cultural barriers when doing campaigns.

pre-EMR pre-EMR takes place before EMR and it includes variety of workshops and trainings. It will be held from 2-5 February SCORA-related workshop will be: Ipas Women’s Reproductive Health and Access to Safe bortion Workshop.

SUB-REGIONAL TRAININGS A Sub Regional Training (SRT) is an international meeting supported by the IFMSA, where members and motivated students from a (sub)region or sometimes even further away can meet and participate in trainings, workshops and small working groups.
