Greetings, On June 12, Orlando and Orange County experienced the darkest and most difficult day of our history. This incomprehensible and unimaginable act of hatred, terror and mass murder that took place at Pulse Nightclub has deeply impacted the LGBTQ community in Central Florida. The Hispanic community was also greatly affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and loved ones of the 49 innocent people who died, the 53 who were wounded, all who were present that horrible evening, and the millions worldwide who were impacted by this tragedy. We offer our sincere appreciation to all of our brave first responders, Orlando and Orange County law enforcement, EMTs, paramedics, doctors, nurses, and emergency room and hospital staff and the courageous citizens who took action during a desperate time of need. Thank you to everyone who stepped in when tragedy struck. President Barack Obama and Florida Governor Rick Scott have come to pay their respects to the victims' families and the survivors. They are also providing all resources necessary to aid this ongoing investigation, allowing us to fully support our efforts. The FBI and local law enforcement are working diligently, leaving no stone unturned. We are beyond grateful for their hard work, efforts and commitment to our community. In the wake of this senseless act of violence, our region has come together as one. Community, elected, and faithbased leaders have joined in solidarity to fight evil with good, proving that hatred will never win. In the face of adversity, we stand united not just as a city or as a county, but as a country. As we begin the healing process, I encourage everyone to turn to your friends and family, and lean on your neighbors. For those in need of additional support, Orange County and the City of Orlando will officially open the Orlando United Assistance Center on Thursday, June 23 at 507 E. Michigan Street. For those looking for a way to help, the City of Orlando has established the OneOrlando.org fund to support the victims, survivors and anyone directly or indirectly impacted by the Pulse nightclub shooting. Equality Florida has also set up a fund, and many organizations throughout Central Florida and beyond are hosting events to show support and raise funds for everyone affected by this tragedy. Orange County and Orlando are strong and resilient. We will stand united in the coming days as the investigation continues, and as we honor and put to rest those lives we lost so tragically. Thank you for your generosity, love and support. Sincerely, Teresa Jacobs Orange County Mayor _____________________________

ORLANDO BOUNCES BACK #ORLANDOUNITED ALWAYS IN OUR THOUGHTS.

All the many victims of 9/11, as the children who fell by a gun deranged attacker, in school where they are supposed to be safe, now at home, in our own back yard, 49 fallen innocent by gun attack at PULSE. Orlando is our home, an inspiring city, a city who embraced diversity as an example with an open arms policy that overcomes all differences. A successful administration who never discriminated anyone. As we go on trying to stay strong, learning to grieve and mourn with all affected, we offer our power to heal, to extend our arms in solidarity and make our weakness our strength and become one, to fight and survive. We are still here, to make sure this will not happen again.

Orlando hosted Brazil X Haiti during the Copa America at the Camping World Stadium A Copa América Centenário teve seu melhor momento na Florida com a partida Brasil x Haiti.

Even knowing the Brazilian National Team was eliminated from the Copa America in the early stages, it was a pleasure to see them play in our Camping World Stadium. The event was well organized, the public was engaged in a great atmosphere, proof that we are more than capable to hold the World Cup in the future. Orlando has conquered the title United States Sports Capital and it is well deserved.

HISTORIC 2016 COPA AMERICA CENTENARIO DELIVERS RECORD-BREAKING EVENT New Tournament Record Set for Total and Average Attendance, Television Viewership and Digital/Social Media Engagement Heading into the 2016 Copa America Centenario Final featuring FIFA World No. 1-ranked Argentina vs. No. 5-ranked Chile on Sunday, June 26, in front of more than 81,000 fans at MetLife Stadium, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and Copa America Local Organizing Committee (LOC) officials announced today that this year's tournament will set new records for total and average attendance, television viewership in the United States and throughout the world, and digital and social media engagement. Featuring breathtaking goals by many of the world's top stars, Copa America Centenario, which celebrates 100 years of the oldest national team tournament around the world, has entertained millions of soccer fans in the United States, Latin America and throughout the world with great quality on the pitch, in the way of 90 goals (3.0 goals per match) prior to the Finals weekend. Boasting five-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi of Argentina, the Final on Sunday will also feature Italian Serie A leading scorer Gonzalo Higuaín (Argentina), tournament leading scorer Eduardo Vargas (Chile) and one of the top players in the English Premier League, Alexis Sánchez (Chile). When the tournament concludes on Sunday, nearly 1.5 million fans will have attended the 32 Copa America Centenario

games across 10 venues in the United States, for an average of more than 46,000 fans per game, making it the most attended Copa America in the tournament's 100-year history, as well as the second highest-attended official single-game soccer tournament played in the United States, behind only the 1994 FIFA World Cup (in which 20 more games were played). Along with record setting attendance, Copa America Centenario - a tournament to which CONMEBOL invited six qualifiers from the CONCACAF region, and also featured eight teams that reached the Round of 16 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil - has delivered impressive television ratings in the United States as more than 100 million viewers have watched games on the Univision and FOX networks, including the most-watched men’s soccer match in the history of FS1 for the USA vs. Argentina Semifinal match in Houston earlier this week on Tuesday, June 21. Copa America Centenario has also delivered record ratings for Univision Deportes, with the group stage drawing a larger audience than the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Internationally, Copa America Centenario has been televised in more than 160 countries around the world, reaching more than 1.5 billion households. Copa America Centenario has also set records on digital platforms, as the USA vs. Argentina match on FOX Sports GO was the most-viewed authenticated event in the network’s history. Social media engagement has skyrocketed, as the tournament has seen more than 3.5 million users across all social media platforms, surpassing the 2015 Copa America in Chile. In addition, 15 blue-chip corporate partners have utilized the Copa America brand to create unique marketing campaigns and memorable experiences that have resonated with consumers.

INNOVATIVE MEDAL DESIGN UNVEILED FOR RIO 2016

GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE ARE WHAT OLYMPIC DREAMS ARE MADE OF. HOWEVER, THE MEDALS FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES RIO 2016 HAVE BEEN MADE FROM EXTRA SPECIAL MATERIALS. THEY WERE PRESENTED ON MONDAY AT A SPECIAL EVENT IN RIO. THE SLOGAN FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES – “RIO 2016: A NEW WORLD” – WAS ALSO LAUNCHED. Produced by the Brazilian Mint, the 5,130 medals for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be symbols of sustainability and accessibility as well as sporting excellence. The coveted prizes, which weigh 500g each, comprise 30 per cent recycled silver and bronze while the ribbons are made from 50 per cent recycled PET. Meanwhile, the gold medals are completely free of mercury. The gold medals are purer than ever, meeting sustainability criteria from extraction to refining, as

well as meeting strict environmental and labour laws. They make use of recycled raw silver at 92.5 per cent purity, coming from leftover mirrors, waste solders and X-ray plates. And 40 per cent of the copper used in the bronze medals came from waste at the Mint itself. The substance was melted and decontaminated to provide material for the medals. “Today starts the final countdown for the first Games in South America,” said Thomas Bach, IOC president. Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of the Rio 2016 Committee, added: “The medals are one of the biggest symbols of the Games and they are the most beautiful in the world.” Athletes who make it onto the Olympic podium will receive their medal in a sustainably sourced wooden box along with a sculpture of the Rio 2016 logo. Commemorative gold, silver, bronze and golden bronze medals will be available to buy.

Orange County Government and the City of Orlando will open the Orlando United Assistance Center at 507 E. Michigan on June 23 and will announce the region's long-term commitment to assist those adversely affected by the tragic events related to the Pulse nightclub shooting.

The establishment of a sustained ongoing operation, dedicated to providing long-term assistance to those affected by the Pulse shootings, is modeled after similar operations found to be effective in other communities who have also experienced tremendous loss. The Orlando United Assistance Center will serve as a navigation point for those who need support during this critical juncture, and in the future.

Our community is transitioning out of the immediate response phase of this horrific tragedy. Now we must look at the long-term recovery needs of the victims, including all those who were impacted through counseling, navigating mental health needs and economic support.

Culturally experienced representatives from the Hispanic community will be present at the Orlando United Assistance Center to support families.

This summer, a dream came true for Schreyer, when the Florida Historical Society released The Hannibal Square Heritage Collection: Photographs and Oral Histories, a new book devoted to the community project that resulted in the founding of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center in 2007.

A new addition to Hannibal Square Heritage Center’s permanent collection of documentary photography and oral histories also will be celebrated this summer at the opening reception for the Hannibal Square Heritage Collection Phase VIII: The Collins Family

“The Florida Historical Society Press is very pleased to be publishing the new book on the Hannibal Square Heritage Collection,” says Ben Brotemarkle, Executive Director for the Florida Historical Society. “Florida has always been an incredibly diverse state, and we strive to represent all of our various cultures and communities,” he says. “This project provides us with a wonderful opportunity to help promote the history of an interesting African-American community through the memories and photographs of its residents.”

Closed sales of single-family homes statewide totaled 25,518 last month, up 4.5 percent over the May 2015 figure. “Florida’s housing market is growing at a more moderate pace,” said 2016 Florida Realtors® President Matey H. In May, statewide median sales prices for both single-family homes and townhouse-condo properties rose year-overyear for the 54th month in a row, Veissi noted. The median is the midpoint; half the homes sold for more, half for less.
