This futuristic and sinuous design aesthetic is common to many of Niemeyer’s buildings. The museum is also praised for its glorious view.

Just as Gehry’s Guggenheim put the city of Bilbao, Spain on the cultural map, Oscar Niemeyer’s Museu de Arte Contemporânea (Contemporary Art Museum or MAC) has put the sleepy city of Niterói, Brazil on the tourist map. Completed in 1996, the architectural work of art that is the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum has become one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

From the curved observation deck, one can view the Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, and Sugarloaf Mountain. It is certainly a breath-taking view.

The museum plays host to a constantly changing selection of contemporary Brazilian art. From 9/2/2013 to 12/1/2013, the Niterói Contemporary Museum will host “Joseph Beuys – Res-pública: Conclamação para uma alternativa global,” which is a retrospective of the German artist, Joseph Beuys.

Although the museum curators bring great art to MAC, the greatest work of art on display is the museum itself. The exterior design of the museum is it’s most defining characteristic. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the museum is often likened to a UFO because of its curved saucer-like shape. Despite this apparPhotos and Article Frames & Fortune

“Let Freedom Ring” An event honoring the historic March on Washington The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs, Justice and Freedom & Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" Speech Orlando Mayor Dyer and the Mayor’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, in partnership with the Interfaith Council of Central Florida, the African American Council of Christian Clergy and WUCF Public Television hosted “Let Freedom Ring,” an event that honored the 50th Anniversary of the historic March on Washington for Jobs, Justice and Freedom and Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech represented through music, video and a replay of Dr. King’s iconic speech. The celebration was meaningful, and brought to life the feeling of that time where so much was still to get accomplished . We are the captains of our hearts and minds, and that type of segregated behaveior is hard to be digested, to say the least, in a Country like America really unnaceptable. Here are some of the parts that are most compelling, and should make us think of our reality and how much us as a society are still in debt with the principle of equality . It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note in so far as her citizens of colour are concerned. Instead of honouring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad cheque which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

1963 is not an end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquillity in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.”

Orlando didn’t take long to respond, with Dwyer converting the goal for the Lions in the 35th minute. Chin found the striker after getting caught up just outside the 6-yard box, with Dwyer blasting it in the lower right corner to tie the match at 1-1. Dwyer, who only had one training session with the club in preparation for the match, notched Orlando’s second in the 41st minute- with the assist this time coming from Defender Erik Ustruck. After finding space, Ustruck found Dwyer on the near-post- charging past three defenders for the second goal of the night. Charlotte immediately responded with a goal of their own just two minutes later, with Eagles Forward Christian Ramirez equalizing after a quick ball was played across the 6-yard box. The Orlando Magic Strikes Silver! In celebration of the Magic’s 25th Anniversary “Silver Season” team brings back faces from the past to Amway CenterThe Orlando Magic recently decked out Amway Center (photo link below) in preparation for its 25th Anniversary “Silver Season.” As part of the season celebration, the team placed banners throughout its home building and around the perimeter mixing the past with the present. The Magic will unveil its season-long campaign later this month to recognize its “Silver Season.” The campaign will celebrate with the Orlando community the Magic’s success and rich history of legendary moments, players, people and fans while building on an exciting future. The 25 years of Magic basketball have seen great success for a relatively young franchise including five division championships (1995, 1996, 2008, 2009, 2010), seven 50-plus win seasons and Eastern Conference titles in 1995 and 2009. In addition to its on-the-court success, the team gives more than $2 million to the local community by way of sponsorships of events, donated tickets, autographed merchandise, scholarships and grants. Including more than $18 million distributed to local nonprofit community organizations through the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation and the Orlando Magic Youth Fund (OMYF-MFF), a McCormick Foundation Fund since 1994. Orlando Magic community relations programs annually impact an estimated 100,000 kids each year, while the OMYF-MFF has positively impacted more than 1 million children. The Magic Volunteer Program (MVP), an organizational staff-wide initiative, provides more than 6,000 community volunteer hours per year. Source The Orlando Magic-Photos Fernando Medina

A CLEAR PATH LEARNING WITH MYSELF – INTERIOR WISDOM By Amy Litter

Our ways, the ways of human beings, are part of a personal cosmos, a small parcel of the big whole, always in search of the dreamed upon common purpose, which is available to each and all of us in the same form all the time. The different results achieved by different people is due to the peculiarities of our personal “format”, which is destined to a certain special result, which is only fit to a given existence of a given human being. Living within a universe full of similitudes, it is paramount to each of us to absorb the depth and value of our peculiarities, which will enable the search of our own personal path. The outline of our existence, as human beings, was established around the development and learning achieved through the observation of different external patterns, in conjunction with our own internal lines of personal thoughts. Most of our internal values are constantly checked and challenged in the light of new information from the surrounding world, coming from sources which are often in conflict with our personal concepts, yet have an extremely powerful influence, dictating the personal behavior of a great number of people.

The “learning of living” exercise, that gives form to our personal traits, is a puzzle relatively simple. Lessons are directed to specific “students”, whose traits should harmonize with the “student-learner’s” ability to absorb the teachings. Still, notwithstanding its simplicity and the directness of their target apprentices, the experience is not always absorbed with the expected adequacy. The damage may be more intense if a powerful and opposite external influence intercedes, destroying and annulling the information self-learned and absorbed by the “student”, and creates the natural confusion in the “student’s” mind and very possibly the loss of self confidence.

intentioned friends, or even acquaintances, we absorb the advices as if they were lessons. We may even accept the suggested solutions as the best thing to use in our own lives. Most times the result of this blind trust is precisely the opposite and even damaging!

In reality, exactly because of the apparent similarity, that is dissipated when it meets the big picture, we can better understand that our experiences are always personal – I can’t teach you how to live your life. I learn from myself and you learn from yourself. Your results may only be perceived by me, yet they belong to you. The same way, you may have an outside perception of my results, but they belong to The biggest challenge to be overcome, among me. all of the “learning of living” experience is, without a doubt, the interaction between the It’s true that we have the need to hear from perceptions of the “teacher” and the specific the people we trust but our best master is needs of the “apprentice”.

A Palavra do Poeta - Nilton Bustamante A LASCA DA MADEIRA Autor: Nilton Bustamante Cinzento o céu.

A fé unia aquele povo.

O vento levou, borrando a rua. Retornando, ainda no porto, viu chegar a embarcação.

Maria, a mãe, nada pôde falar. Garganta apertada. É a lasca do Cruzeiro milagreiro?

Pediu, ainda, pano branco e linhas coloridas. Começou a bordar. Quem diria, começou a bordar. Quem consegue explicar a fé?

– perguntou a nova bordadeira.

Brasileira no Mundo

Izabel Litieri -Pointilism Art In this edition we show about a Brazilian artist and herwork style. A technique known as pointillism , widely used by artist Izabel Litieri. I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her work in an exhibition she participated. I was really impressed by this technique, the professionalism the wonderful person and artist. That is when I decided to make this review with her. Pointlism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term Pointillism was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier mocking connotation. Neoimpressionism and Divisionism are also terms used to describe this technique of painting called pointillism.

How and when you gave your first contact with the Arts ? Through classes in elementary school , I attended drawing classes. My mother enrolled me in a course of artistic design when I was 14 and there I had my first contact with the technical arts . What are your main influences ? The Impressionists , for that , like them, love painting that is beautiful .

the masters doing a remake of his magnificent works. It's a pleasant way to learn a little more .

When you started with pointillism ? In 2004 during a trip , I did not take my drawing materials and I wanted to draw. I was in an almost deserted beach with few resources, the only material found was a sketchbook and a few markers, then I remembered that I had studied pointillism, tried and liked the result and continued with more suitable materials, to the present day . It is a technique that fascinates me despite

Art is an exquisite intellectual production , where emotions are embedded in the context of creation, but in art history , we see that many artists are derived from other , following technical and artistic movements through time , you have any models or influences some artist? Who would ? I appreciate Seurat and Signac were the forerunners of the Pointillism . What does art mean to you ? The Art is part of my life all the time , it is through them that I am increasingly aware of the greatness of being alive. Running my work I have the opportunity to get in touch with my essence and transmit through brushstrokes feelings of peace, joy and fulfillment that gives special meaning to my existence. I thank the universe for the small gift given to me and I hope to , through my work , cause some people to experience contact with his best part - our soul .

Divisionism (also called Chromoluminarism) was the characteristic style in Neo-Impressionist painting defined by the separation of colors into individual dots or patches which interacted optically. By requiring the viewer to combine the colors optically instead of physically mixing pigments, divisionists believed they were achieving the maximum luminosity scientifically possible. Georges Seurat founded the style around 1884 as chromoluminarism, drawing from his understanding of the scientific theories of Michel Eugène Chevreul, Ogden Rood and Charles Blanc, among others. Divisionism developed along with another style, pointillism, which is defined specifically by the use of dots of paint and does not necessarily focus on the separation of colors. Brazilian born in São Paulo , capital, formed by Panamericana School of Arts (1981 ) . She began her artistic career exploring in acrylic technique , the geometric - figurative, predominantly monochromatic context . Later came the phase of pastel and watercolor , developing some experiments taking these techniques to canvas . Currently working intensely to pointillism through acrylic on canvas and the use of pen - brush block screen . The constant theme involving nature, its animals and landscapes - especially in regard to Brazil - is a characteristic of her work . The art is lived in communion with the search for balance with the forces of nature that inspire the creation and carry the artist to contact their essence ( the soul ) .

When did you start to produce or effectively create your art works ? At the beginning of my learning at Escola Panamericana de Artes just over 30 years. During this period I began to outline the parameters of what I now call my style .

what I've been experiencing with glitches because of repetitive movements . The challenge of seeing a white canvas gently transforming into an Art work is quite fascinating . What materials do you use in your work ? I use acrylic paint , pastel , watercolor and brush pen. As surface I use cancas and blocks of canvas How is your creative process? What inspires you ? Most often my inspiration comes with a set theme and an image. Other times, through photos I shot from places that I like and that inspire me. I love doing landscapes, just pay attention to the infinities models that nature has to work I really enjoy painting

What techniques do you use to express their ideas , feelings and perceptions about the world? I know I could through my art express our doubts , our struggles and our claims, but my sensitivity chose to call attention to the finer things of life , and I feel so accomplished . Do you have another job besides painting ? Do you offerclasses, lectures etc ? Oh, yes , I am a businesswoman , working with cosmetics . At bottom , both have a lot in common : the essence is beauty. I have already given many drawing classes , but now the time I have left is to work on my art. As for the lectures , I have not had much time to fit them into my schedule. Just as in my artwork , through these lectures I propose to create an opportunity for people to escape the everyday mechanics and get in touch with the essence . Often lectures occur simultaneously to my works exhibit .

T

he feel and action of the artist who performs : " The pointillism gives us opportunity to free ourselves from the many existing techniques and feel the immediate effect of color on paper completely white , forming various designs through contrasts . " To our many teachers who gave us courage through other forms to express the art that comes from the soul , my thanks and my deep admiration . " Izabel Litieri

Beijos amigos, e esperamos vocês no próximo mês

APPLE PHONES 2013 The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c: What you need to know By Macworld staff We’re now in that funny in-between time: On Tuesday, Apple announced the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, providing some information about both. We had a brief hands-on session with both of them. But now we have to wait a week and a half before we can actually get our own new phones and find out everything we want to know. In the meantime, here are our answers to some of the most pressing questions about the new smartphones, based on what Apple has told us and our own investigations. The basics When can I get the new iPhone models?

a contract, those same phones will cost $649, $749, and $849, respectively. As with the 5c, you can get the unlocked model for use with T-Mobile. (Apple’s site doesn’t currently list a no-SIM option for the 5s.) Which carriers are offering the iPhone 5c and 5s? In the U.S., your contract-carrier choices are AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. As mentioned above, no-contract versions are available for use with T-Mobile or other GSM providers. How much will it cost me to upgrade from my existing iPhone? That depends on the carrier and type of contract you have. You can check your upgrade eligibility via Apple’s website.

How they compare How does the 5c compare to the iPhone You can pre-order an iPhone 5c starting 5? on Friday, September 13; the 5c will From a hardware perspective, the 5c is actually be available on September 20. very similar to the iPhone 5: It uses the The iPhone 5s will also be available on same processor (Apple’s A6), the same September 20, but Apple isn’t taking graphics circuitry, and the same screen. pre-orders for that model. These dates The main differences are that the 5c apply to the US, Australia, Canada, includes a slightly more capacious China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and the battery, compatibility with more bands of LTE, and an updated FaceTime HD UK. camera that features larger pixels and a better backside-illumination sensor. How much do the phones cost?

of an aluminum enclosure, the iPhone 5c features a plastic unibody design reminiscent of the old white-plastic MacBook. This body is molded from a single piece of polycarbonate that gives it a solid, rigid feel (part of that also stems from the steel frame that Apple uses inside). Even the volume buttons, mute switch, and Sleep/Wake button on the 5c are plastic. “Unapologetically plastic,” as Apple puts it. How does the 5s compare to the 5c and the 5? Apple calls the 5s its most “forwardthinking” phone. Though its aluminum body is almost the same as the iPhone 5’s, there’s a bunch of new hardware inside. Most impressive is the new A7 processor, which Apple touts as the first 64-bit processor available in a phone. The iPhone 5s also includes a new M7 “motion coprocessor”; some big camera upgrades and capabilities; and the Touch ID fingerprint-authentication system. (More on these below.) Other improvements over the iPhone 5 include a slightly larger battery, expanded carrier support, and a new color. Speaking of which... What colors can I get?

If you splurge on the aluminum-body iPhone 5s, your choices are different: “space gray” (with a black screen bezel and back trim), silver (with white screen bezel and back trim), or gold (also with white screen bezel and back trim). The gold is subtler than it sounds; it’s more of a champagne color. A nice touch on the 5s is that the metal ring around the Home button on each phone matches its main color: gray, silver, or gold. I hear Apple also makes cases for the new phones? Yep, Apple is also offering offering two lines of cases, one set for the 5c and one for the 5s. The $29 iPhone 5c case, available in the same five colors as the phone plus a black version, is made of silicone with a microfiber interior lining and sports a pattern of 35 circular holes on the back that let your iPhone’s own color peek through. You can match your phone to the case or opt for something a bit more interesting like, say, a white phone with a blue case. The iPhone 5s What’s this about a new processor and a coprocessor? The A7 inside the new iPhone 5s is unquestionably the most powerful chip Apple has ever put in a mobile device. It’s also the first one that uses a 64-bit architecture—usually found only on laptop and desktop computers. The implications of that architecture might not be immediately apparent, because apps have to be written to take advantage of it. But down the road, the new chip will offer some exciting possibilities for expansion and power. The A7’s support for the latest OpenGL ES 3.0 standard means better graphics performance, too. In fact, Apple claims that the new A7 processor is twice as fast at both processor-intensive and graphics-intensive tasks as its predecessor. We’ll see about that when we test the 5s. The iPhone 5s also includes a separate processor, called the M7, that handles sensor data.

Why a separate processor Tone flash that Apple says is the first of its kind on for all that? The key to the M7 is that it can log a phone or a standalone camera. When you take the photo, the phone actually takes multiple images, analyzes them in real time, and then shows you what it thinks is the best one. The 5s also includes image stabilization in software: In situations—such as low lighting—where you’d normally end up with blurry images, the phone takes multiple photos with a single shutter press, and then it blends them together into a single, sharp image. And a new burst mode captures ten fullresolution frames per second for as long as you hold down the shutter button. If you’ve got a device activated prior to September 1, 2013, you’ll still be able to purchase the apps on the App Store, but you won’t get them for free.
