Letter From The Editor In case you were actually in Las Vegas attending the 2022 Grammy Awards and missed our event we are delighted to share with you our exclusive coverage of Hollywood Weekly’s Grammy Viewing party held at 501 Broadway Studio in Santa Monica. The event was complete with our highly publicized red carpet celebrity photos and amazing musical performances. We wish to thank Eric Zuley and Dr. Dante Sears for their outstanding hospitality and our wonderful sponsors. When it sounds too good to be true – normally it isn’t true. Right? Not necessarily so. Medicine facilitator SaludHealth USA now offers a weight loss procedure where the patient swallows a pill that expands inside the stomach and naturally dissolves four to six months later. With no anesthesia, no scars and lasting weight loss this really is as great as it sounds. Mr. Miyagi once said, “Ambition without knowledge is like a boat on dry land”. With the knowledge, ambition, dedication & teamwork of Jeff Jeds, Jose Diaz Jr., Larry Elisdale, Nick Nielsen & William Ford, the feature film ‘Junkers’ has always been destined for success. With Jeff’s knowledge and extensive experience in martial arts, Nicks writing capabilities, Larry & Jose’s film making experience & Williams love of film, acting & martial arts, this dream team has come together to create a thrilling, sci-fi feature that will be loved by Star Wars fans, and karate kids alike. Their combined knowledge and experience take this film to a whole new level, and as it makes its way through film festivals around the country, we have no doubt that when it comes to the success of this movie, the sky is the limit. This issue of Hollywood Weekly also features 17-YEAR-OLD SINGER, songwriter, teen activist HITHA. She is from California and is an amazingly talented artist who is on a mission to spread empowerment worldwide through her music. She is also involved with India Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission on "Self-Reliant India” and "Save and Educate Girls." We also wish to acknowledge Bedside Readings for the continuous support. And finally, Charmaine Blake’s Red Carpet Oscar Viewing Dinner took place on Oscar Night, Sunday, March 27th, 2022. The event was an absolute success! Special guest Eric Benét did an amazing job hosting the event. The auction was filled with priceless pieces of art from Picasso to Norman Rockwell. One lucky attendee went home with a unique Michael Jordan piece that had rings from Jordan’s championship seasons with the Bulls. There were live performances along with a delightful three-course dinner from Top Chef Elijah Brown from Las Vegas, NV. The HUSL displayed their NFTs along with their HUSLVERSE that is soon to be released on March 30th! There were past and present Oscar nominees in attendance with a large red carpet. Eric Benét introduced Jason Derulo who was unable to leave Dubai in time. Enjoy!

ENJOY A VACAY AND COME BACK A BETTER YOU By Gunilla Larsson Diggs

W

hen it sounds too good to be true – normally it isn’t true. Right? Not necessarily so. Medicine facilitator SaludHealth USA now offers a weight loss procedure where the patient swallows a pill that expands inside the stomach and naturally dissolves four to six months later. With no anesthesia, no scars and lasting weight loss this really is as great as it sounds. America is big and its population is getting even bigger. The problems we have with being overweight just keeps getting worse and about 42% of adult Americans are obese today. Heavy individuals experience a wide range of complications that come with obesity; such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and even cancer. Not to mention the psychological stress of living in a society obsessed with beauty and fitness. The term medical tourism has been around for more than twenty years. People go on a vacation and do a little nip and tuck while away. Top destinations for these sorts of getaways are Malaysia and Thailand.

• Dr. Tsuda

“Dr. Tsuda saved her life” A lot of people also go south of the U.S. border and seek treatment in Mexico. Unfortunately, the results sometimes are well below par. Health insurance specialist Dan Heffley saw an opportunity to improve the medical tourism industry and change the cost and quality of medicine. My team and I saw that the medical tourism industry was like the Wild West, says Heffley. No standardization, with limited quality controls that were literally all over the map. So, we started from scratch by vetting every single touch point. Far from being just a business for Heffley, it was also a personal mission. Several years ago, prior to forming SaludHealth USA, my stepdaughter went to Mexico for a gastric sleeve procedure and there were serious complications. When she came home, she had a very hard time finding a doctor back in the U.S. that was 4 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

willing to help her right the wrongs. Until we found Dr. Tsuda. He saved my stepdaughter’s life. Global medicine About eight years after that dramatic ordeal, Dr. Tsuda and Mr. Heffley ran into each other at a big awards event. We started talking and decided to put our heads together on weight-loss procedures that could help reduce the expanding waistlines of the majority of Americans, says Heffley. Mr. Heffley had by then started a company designed to take advantage of the dramatic cost savings found in medical tourism, while simultaneously concentrating on quality control and finding the best medical providers. He decided to rebrand the term “medical tourism” in favor of Global Medicine. The company was SaludHealth USA and was focused on providing better outcomes south of the border, within a few hours travel from most places in the U.S., rather than the 17-hour flight that would be traveling to Malaysia or Thailand.

If you need a knee replacement surgery, you will pay up to $65,000 in LA. The same procedure in Mexico or Colombia costs somewhere between $10,000 - $15,000, travel included. He says that many people seem to believe that quality healthcare only happens in the U.S. That is simply not true. People need to understand that the world is so much bigger and many times has so much more to offer than what you find in the States. Every detail has been checked and double-checked Before Heffley started SaludHealth USA, he talked to a fertility clinic in Costa Rica that revealed that they had just lost their biggest client, because the driver was two hours late to pick the client up. That would never and will never happen with SaludHealth USA, says Heffley. We coordinate everything - ground transportation, hospital stay, treatment, hotels, flight, literally all of it. And we know what questions to ask and have vetted the hospitals, doctors, and other medical providers. While doctors and management speak English, oftentimes nurses, hotel staff or drivers don’t. We have bilingual personal concierges and translators on staff that accompany you to hold your hand throughout the process. SaludHealth USA operates in four countries south of The U.S.; Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile. SaludHealth USA is a U.S. company, based in the U.S. They also have a South American headquarters in Bogotá, Colombia.

In addition to bariatrics, SaludHealth USA offers everything from plastic surgery and cardiology to orthopedics and odontology.

We debated where to put our South American headquarters, eventually selecting Bogota, Colombia. The problem wasn’t one of quality because the World Health organization ranks Colombia number 22 (compared to the U.S.’s number 37) and Colombia has 23 out of the best 45 Latin American hospitals worldwide. It was simply difficult to assure people just how great Colombia is, says Heffley.

And they can help you reduce your healthcare costs by 50%75%. Their LinkedIn page elaborates with: “SaludHealth USA aims to disrupt the current American healthcare market to be the premiere health care choice for individual patients, doctors, corporates, municipalities and insurance companies.” Reducing the cost and upping the quality Dan Heffley has more than 25 years of experience in HealthCare Financing Strategies and has consulted and worked with International, U.S. Federal & State Legislators, Government Agencies, and Corporates. He has spent a lot of time in Washington D.C. working with those seeking to put together the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and has written many articles on the matter. So, if anyone knows how the American health insurance business works, Heffley is the guy. HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY• 5

They have the idea that it is like what is portrayed in the Netflix series ‘Narcos’, even though those events occurred thirty years ago. That’s like saying the U.S. is still run by Al Capone and why we have put in so much work over the past years, even talking with governmental agencies and immigration, to assure that the quality is top-notch and the experience is a smooth one.

The balloon self-seals and dissolves on its own after four to six months.

The magic pill

Weight loss can be anywhere from 10-15%, but for those who embrace the program, weight loss can be thirty percent or more.

There is no such thing as a truly magic pill. But the novel gastric balloon is pretty darn close. It is an incredible weightreducing procedure that SaludHealth USA offers in Bogotá, Colombia and in Santiago, Chile. The pill is a balloon that is tightly compressed, about the size of a large vitamin pill. The patient simply swallows the pill, and it is positioned correctly inside the stomach via x-ray. It has a very thin tube attached to it that is used for filling the balloon with saline (salt water) or air. Then the tube is detached and removed. When inflated the balloon is about the size of a grapefruit. 6 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

The balloon makes you feel full, and in combination with diet and exercise coaching, the procedure can provide weight loss even after the balloon is gone from the stomach, says Heffley.

For the Hollywood crowd this is perfect, says Heffley. It is completely non-surgical - no anesthesia and no scars. And we have put together a package that covers everything from the travel, the procedure, the ground transportation and the hotel stay. We can even offer tourism packages for those that are interested in that (or for those that accompany them for the procedure). Private clinic in Las Vegas

Dr. Tsuda, who has his private clinic located in Las Vegas, does the initial consultation with the patient before deciding if the novel gastric balloon is suitable or not. He takes care of all the lab work that needs to be done, and he will follow the patient for a whole year after the procedure. He even offers telemedicine consultations. For a very small additional cost, the patient will have access to a national nutritionist via telehealth, says Heffley. And on top of that, we could also provide telehealth behavioral health specialists to discuss a person’s relationship with food, stressors that lead to overeating, depression and other mood disorders. The most common side-effect that patients experience is nausea. If the balloon would rupture (which is incredibly rare), it would be like swallowing about half a liter (a little more than 2 cups) of air or slightly salty water. Sometimes a blue dye is placed inside the balloon, so that the patient urinates a blueish color, if the balloon is leaking or has ruptured. Globally this procedure has been performed on about 22,000 patients. It is especially popular in the Middle East. Slow approval process The novel gastric balloon is not yet approved by the FDA, so to get the procedure the patient would travel to Bogotá, Colombia or Santiago, Chile.

surgery that performs a lot more than just nose jobs. In addition to full- body lifts, travelers can have neck- and eyelid lifts, buttock surgery or postpartum surgery just to name a few. Stem cell therapy is offered in Cancún, Mexico and if you suffer from sports injuries, tendonitis, or fibromyalgia SaludHealth USA can help you in any of the four countries where they are open for business. National Infertility Week was just observed this past April 24th through April 30th. World class fertility treatments are available in five different cities throughout Colombia and SaludHealth USA has partnered with a Human Fertility Institute that has helped thousands of couples that dream of having children. Closing thoughts Heffley closes the interview with the following: As the world continues to get smaller and costs continue to spiral out of control in the U.S., I think the time is right to have the discussion about Global Medicine. We’ve taken the guesswork, uncertainty and - let’s face it - the fear of traveling for medical or cosmetic reasons, out of the equation, and we have saved people money. But the key has always been on creating a better quality of life for our clients. That’s what we do.

On average it takes up to ten years to get things approved with the FDA, says Heffley. They take forever to get things approved, sorry but that’s the truth. The pandemic also put obstacles in our way and delayed things further, but now we are open for business.

When we at Georgia Swings began building porch and patio swings 9 years ago, we had no idea that the demand for our products would be so great. It soon became apparent that Georgia Swings was a cut above the porch/patio swings and bed swings being sold at the typical box stores and swing companies. When customers began to come from neighboring states to purchase Georgia Swings and Bed Swings, we knew we had succeeded in creating a product that was by far superior to other porch and patio swing-products being sold. Porch, patio and bed swings are no longer considered a luxury to be enjoyed by a few; they can be a Zen way of relaxation for anyone with a living space, or with the ability to imagine and create an elegant and peaceful place to read, meditate or just relax in luxury.

On a brilliantly sunny July day, six-year-old Ruby is abandoned by her father in the suffocating dark of a Tennessee cave. The Tiger’s Eye by Scott Delaney Four years after the events that took place in Delaney’s first book, The Shaft, the Global Calling organization is now making a dynamic impact across India. As they host the largest ministry event in their history, with over one hundred thousand worshippers in a crowded Mumbai cricket stadium, a radical anti-Christian militia (Indian Liberation Resistance Organization) orchestrates a brutal terrorist attack. This profoundly evil organization spares nothing in its attempt to stop the ministry; killing, maiming, and abducting many of its leaders. When angels visit one of the terrorists responsible for the carnage in Mumbai, his guilty conscience and newfound faith force him to turn against his former terrorist cell. This change of allegiance leads to his recruitment as a double agent for Indian law enforcement, ultimately bringing justice to those responsible for these deadly attacks. Spiritual warfare rages as angels and demons engage in this epic battle of good versus evil.

Conversations With Our Authors The Velocity Mindset: How Leaders Eliminate Resistance, Gain Buy-in, and Achieve Better Results—Faster by Ron Karr From the author of Lead, Sell, or Get Out of the Way comes a game-changing guide to help everyone in a leadership position eliminate resistance, gain buy-in, and achieve better results— faster! Everyone knows what qualities define a great leader, but how many of us know what steps to take to become that leader ourselves? The secret formula is what sales and leadership coach Ron Karr calls the Velocity Mindset: a perfect balance of speed and direction, both of which must remain in alignment for personal and professional success. Utilizing anecdotes and Karr’s 30-plus years of experience, The Velocity Mindset® offers innovative and practical strategies to differentiate yourself from the competition, increase your profits, and get to the next level of success, faster.

Q&A WITH RON KARR Q:What is the Definition of Velocity? A:Everyone thinks Velocity is all about speed. It is not! If that is all you think it is you probably are in danger of experiencing burnout. The Physics Definition of Velocity is Speed + Direction. Direction is the goal we want to achieve. Direction is critical as it drives our decision-making process and ensures we do not waste time on tasks that are not germane to the cause.

Q:What advice can you give someone struggling to get into the “right mindset” as described in The Velocity Mindset®? A:Figure out what you want to achieve. Then work your way backwards and identify three things that need to happen to get there. Identify the right actions and timelines. Hold yourself accountable and pivot when necessary. We tend to energize ourselves around initiatives that we are passionate about. Find your passion because nothing will stop you then. Q:What was your favorite part of the writing process while working on The Velocity Mindset®? A:When the Pandemic lockdown started,

I decided not to go after the virtual keynotes as all meetings were shut down. While requests still came in, I decided to write The Velocity Mindset® and post daily videos to my tribe. The best part about this was it kept me sane and on task about what truly is important in life-achieving the important things we want out of life. Q:What is your next big project you’re working on? A:Spreading The Velocity Mindset® through Velocity Mindset Ninjas. These are individuals who are influential in their organizations or markets, align with The Velocity Mindset® and have a passion for driving The Velocity Mindset® throughout the entire organization. A:The 9 tools were developed as an empowerment curriculum for women that I have been teaching in workshops since 2008. These 9 tools were my personal roadmap to transforming my own life. At one point, I was struggling to find happiness both at work and in my relationships. I just knew there must be a better way to live life and to relate to the world and other people. I did a lot of research and investigation into a variety of ideologies, thought processes and teachings and applied what I learned. The 9 tools are the distillation of my personal path to success and it was important for me to share them with women of the world.

Q: What was your writing process like while working on your book? A: Well, this book has been in the idea stage for quite some time. I began getting requests to write the book from women who had taken the workshop and I thought it was a great idea. I think traditionally people write a book and then turn it into a course, but The Quinn Essentials came into being as a live course and so my challenge was to translate this dynamic, energetic and often life changing workshop into an equally empowering solo journey for the reader. Honestly, yes, it seemed like a daunting task and I didn’t do it overnight. I really practiced patience, not wanting to rush the process when it didn’t feel right. I practiced my own tools, connected with the right people, listened and although it took a number of years, it really feels like it happened in its own perfect timing.

Q: Why is empowering women important to you? A: When the Dahli Lama said, “The world will be changed by the western woman.” That was a turning point for me. When he said that, it struck something in me, I realized that I could make a difference, that all women can make a difference and create a better world. It will take all of us, because there are so many areas in the world that need our help. So for me helping women step back into their power and accomplish their dreams became part of my mission.

You’ve Met Your Match. I

Meet UnFiltered.

t’s five o’clock on Friday, time to get off, but home is the only place to go. You’re tired of getting tables for one, being the third wheel, ordering Chinese food at home and catching up on an embarrassing amount of Netflix series that you fit in between your busy schedule. You’ve tried dating apps to no avail- so much time wasted on fake accounts, bots...and even worse, the fret of being “catfished” once again. You find a “match” and they seem nice until one of two things happens... the infamous unsolicited pic, you’re stuck in the never-ending loop of messages, or even the eventual request of money. There is now a dating app that made it their mission to fix everything you ever hated about dating apps. Transparency is the founding reason behind the creation of the UnFiltered Dating app. In fact, co-founder Genesis Assulin believes so strongly in the importance of transparency she made it their name- UnFiltered. Every profile is taken in real time with a date stamp through the in-app camera embedded in the app software prohibiting an upload feature unless part of the lifestyle news feed. Eliminating filters is the foundation of this dating app. They have created a dating revolution by providing a platform for true genuine connections and by revamping the online dating experience with unique built-in features that promote and cultivate 20 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

a safe, transparent, UnFiltered environment. Their users can be the person they were always supposed to be- themselves. How many times have you walked into a “blind date” or met someone for the first time from a dating profile only to discover they didn’t look the same as their profile picture. Although looks aren’t everything, trust is important. UnFiltered’s motto, “Real People. Real Love.” does just that. No more meeting the 10-year alumni version of the college snapshot of your match, UnFiltered secures you are talking to a verified version of their true and current self! UnFiltered strives to offer a safer community to their users. A deeper dive behind the scenes into the development side of the app includes an integrated technology that uses 8 factors to verify user accounts. Some of these verification methods includes verifying images, emails used to create user profiles, phone number and the user’s location to name a few. This technology, that was introduced via a partnership with some of the most secure platforms across the globe, is how UnFiltered is able to prevent fake and misleading identities for users. Once authenticated, the verified profile is issued a seal, reassuring the user that they’re messaging a real person.

As if this wasn’t enough to set them apart from every other dating app on the market, other features are integrated into the UnFiltered app to make sure that your virtual dating experience is quality above quantity. Where other competitive apps have the bad reputation of being for “hook-ups”, UnFiltered has introduced limited matches. This allows you to match with up to 5 potential dates at a time, ensuring that you have meaningful connections with focused communication. This feature paired with our In-app communication opportunities (in-app camera and in-pp Video) ensures your private information is protected until you choose to communicate outside the app. They have also paired with Google to integrate with your calendar and even allows users to use GPS to make the convenience of planning a date with your match simple and convenient. Plan your date, location and date time all within the app! Once the request is accepted, the app sends reminders to your app notifications, updates any changes you or your match makes, directions to get you there on time! Your life may be busy, but UnFiltered has thought of unique and innovative ways to make dating simple and easy again! UnFiltered is not just another dating app, in fact, UnFiltered wants to be the last dating app anyone ever has to use by being the conduit for Real People to find Real Love.

UnFiltered is passionate about its mission statement and that is “To foster a secure community who values the ideals and principles of real love. To live in anticipation, believing that there are more good people that could benefit from a mode of transparency.”

Her newest project is tick, tick...BOOM! Directed by Miranda and produced by Ron Howard, the Jonathan Larson musical tells the story of an aspiring composer who struggles to pursue his dreams in New York City in 1990.

By Alex A. Kecskes

Q: Thank you for taking the time for this interview. What drew you to tic, tic, Boom!? A: I got the script on my last day working on The Heights. Reading the script, I said, these could be scenes out of my childhood. I grew up in New York in the 80s. My father was a playwright and my mother was a dancer. Our house was filled with my father’s artist friends. We had all these creative people over all the time. There was just so much joy, love, and art around. When I read the script, I realized Jonathan was just like my father. I’d watched my dad’s heartbreak over and over as he tried to make it as a playwright in New York. When I got to the last page of the script, I said, I have to shoot this movie. So I interviewed with Lin (director Lin-Manuel Miranda) and brought in my lookbook to show that I had lots of ideas to bring to the table. The first page of my lookbook was just pictures of my childhood. It took Lin a minute to realize these were my childhood pictures and not just references I’d pulled off the Internet. He said it doesn’t get more personal than that. We started talking about New York in 1990, where color, light, and emotions were all heightened. We were both ten years old that year and we wanted the movie to have the 90s New York feel from a childlike perspective. In Jonathan's mind, the line between dreams and reality is sometimes blurred. Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced in shooting tick, tick, Boom?

Q&A

A: The pandemic. We prepped the movie for fourteen weeks, shot for two weeks, and were shut down for six months. When we came back, we were one of the first movies to do so. The movie was ripped out from under us. All our lives changed when it shut down. The challenge after being told to come back was how to make a movie during a pandemic. So we all had to learn together. We had the most amazing group of people. We did another two months of prep and 42 days of shooting. Since theater season was closed, we were able to perform in the theater where Jonathan performed. It became a remarkably intimate and moving experience. Q: You had to shoot in the confines of a bookstore with narrow aisles? Challenges? A: That was tricky. It was a real bookstore in New York. All our locations were really small. We wanted to be true to what New York was in 1990. We had to figure out how to move our camera through that space. We even shot a dance number in that space. The swimming pool was also quite small. You also had to shoot inside a small house and a New York apartment. Again, challenges in setup and lighting? A: I loved that apartment. It reminded me of when I was a kid. We wanted Andrew (Garfield) to have as much freedom as possible so he wasn’t confined to a certain part of the apartment. I HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY• 25

also wanted to have the right sun path and the light bouncing off the buildings across the street. It was both intimate and claustrophobic. When you go into numbers like No-More and Sunday and Swimming, there’s a breadth, a grandness, a space. Andrew is so stuck in that apartment, so you feel the walls sort of caving in on him. Q: And there was the diner scene, which looked busy and cramped. How did you manage that? A: We wanted it to feel chaotic. And because of Covid, we couldn’t pack the diner and have several cameras running. We only had a certain amount of ventilation and space. We packed the frames then shot them in different sections. It was very time-consuming. But it felt like a Sunday morning. Then when the wall comes down, we had the brightest scene in the entire movie. Q: How do you compose a scene to draw out the most emotion the script calls for? A: What’s interesting about working with Lin is that he brought in this idea of workshopping. It’s very specific to theater and to our film set period. He didn’t need all the ideas right away. It was a discovery process. Usually, it’s the storyboard artist and director who sit down, draw out a scene, and create a shot list from that. But Lin had a group of people—including the production designer, the AD, and the writer—working together. The six of us

would sit for three or four hours a day and work out a scene. I never had a writer so readily available. He’d be there with us and rewrite stuff on the spot. And the production designer would have models of the set and show us things that Lin could create, giving us ideas for shots. It was a very organic process of discovery without anything being forced on us. We also had a very long prep period, given the size of this movie. I would take the storyboards and cut them to the pre-recorded music and animatics. And again, we would discover more things about what was working and what wasn’t. Q: When you typically shoot a film, do you sometimes go off script and let your gut take over? A: That was part of the process. We’d see things in the script and realize what was or wasn’t working. One of the things we discovered during prep was the swimming pool had what looked like paper lines at the bottom. The tile in the pool was this beautiful patina New York tile that you only find in old city buildings. We found this perfectly positioned 30 at the bottom of the pool and Lin said, what if Jonathan touches the number 30—an age he is so scared of turning. So that’s how the music appeared in swimming. It represented a single moment of genius for Jonathan. Q: How do you use camera movement to draw out the most emotion from a scene? A: It’s very intuitive. I’d watch dance

rehearsals and part of it is the storyboard process. We had Andrew with us from the very beginning. I would sit in on the rehearsals and just watch as Andrew turned into Jonathan. I think being a good director is getting everyone on board to capture a vision. Lin did that with everyone. He really inspired everyone to understand the movie we were making. So that emotion came from watching eight years of videotape of the real Jonathan Larson. And watching other workshops of the 80s and 90s. We fully immersed ourselves in that world. I also always ask a director for the intention in a scene. I grew up as a child actor, so I liked the idea of giving the camera a direction the same way you'd give an actor. This is why I always ask for one emotion per scene. In asking that, I'm able to tell the story emotionally and use the camera accordingly. Q: I particularly enjoyed the dancers in white on stage. How did you first approach that and did you end up shooting it that way or make changes? A: I loved that scene. It was designed as a single shot. In editing, they cut back to Jonathan’s monologue in the New York theater workshop. We worked with the choreographer to develop that whole sequence and give a subtle lighting queue on Jonathan. It pinpoints the fact that we are in his world, in his story, and everything will be told from Jonathan’s point of view. Q: Any words of wisdom for young cinematographers trying to break into the business? A: I wish that film schools would tell people they need to be in this business at least a decade before they make any money. It takes a long, long time to break into this business. One of my professors once said Hollywood is like a brick wall. Your job is to get to the other side and you do it by throwing bricks against the wall. One day, you'll see just a tiny hole in the wall and that's when you'll want to give up. That’s when you need to push harder because you’re closer than you think. I think this is true for any career in the arts. If you’re not completely in love with this job, find something else. Movie making is hard but it’s also the best thing in the world.

Inspired by his love of rock ‘n roll, Audigier’s career began in his native France and skyrocketed in the U.S. after he licensed the designs of San Francisco tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy in the early 2000s. At the height of his success, he attracted A-list celebrities to skyrocket the popularity of the Ed Hardy and Von Dutch fashion lines that he helmed. Audigier achieved global fame for the rhinestone-studded and graffiti-inspired artwork that decorated hats, T-shirts, jackets, shoes and a vast array of other licensed products. Abell Auction Co. will make history with a rare offering of art, fashion, books, celebrity memorabilia, customized motorcycles and high-end goods from the designer’s private collection. Many sale items from Audigier’s sprawling Los Angeles-area estate are showcased in the 2018 documentary entitled “Christian Audigier the Vif,” which journeys through Audigier’s life after being diagnosed with an aggressive type of blood cancer. He passed away at age 57 in July 2015, leaving behind an iconic fashion legacy. 30 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

“Christian selected every item with exceptional care and passion, and had a quintessential eye for fashion and design,” said Vincent Audigier, nephew of the late designer. “Nothing was random. Everything he owned was the very best and represented his unique lifestyle. In 2004, Frank Sinatra’s martini-stained Steinway piano and a platter that served up steak to Cary Grant were among the items auctioned from L.A.’s famed Perino’s restaurant, the last of the legendary eateries from Hollywood’s Golden Age. A decade later, Abell also sold property belonging to Bess Meyerson, the only Jewish Miss America ever crowned, and

PRESIDENT BIDEN'S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Carmelita

PITTMAN

Celebrated her birthday with God given gifts and blessings

I

t so happens that March 8 is International Women's Day. It is also my birthday and I am celebrating all throughout March. In fact every day that I open my eyes and can see my husband of 46 years, Jerry Pittman , next to my side is cause for celebration. He ventured with me to the exclusive Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe not far from San Diego. It is a paradise for golf aficionados with grounds covering several acres. In fact the event for International Women's Day organized by Sharon Doyle was held on those very lush green grounds in a monumental tent complete with chandeliers. This event was attended by nearly 200 ladies, including at least 30 female Marines, and at least two ladies who served in the armed forces during World War 2. That was the time I was still a twinkle in my mother and father's eye but made my entrance soon into the real world. This birthday was beyond my expectations. I had been invited to sing with members of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra directed by John Nettles. I also had the pleasure of meeting an amazing opera singer, Hiroko Yoshinaga as well as Tanae, a young talented singer from Canada, also the lovely Gennine Jackson Trencie who delivered a Whitney Houston number. Before this luncheon event I was interviewed on the red carpet by T.V. host Rosalyn Kahn and whisked off into a room for an interview with podcast radio host Margo Lovett. During the course of the event I noticed Helice Bridges, a feisty octogenarian with white hair dressed in blue who danced exuberantly

and made a presentation of blue ribbons to promote unity through the power of love. Many ladies were honored with beautiful blown glass trophies. I was also surprised with one. Later in the evening my husband and I after resting in our suite at the resort attended the GSFE (Global Society of Female Entrepreneurs) dinner event. This organization was founded by Robbie Motter and enhances and empowers the lives of women. It has 25 chapters throughout the States, Canada and recently opened another in London. I learned that I was the only singer and only honoree. My friends of many years Giovanni Vignati of Italy and his lovely wife Rickey who I had not seen in several years were able to attend. Also Denise Lyles Cook aka the Oracle was in attendance and they were as surprised as I when I was presented President Biden's Lifetime Achievement Award, which included a letter from him and a medallion from the Whitehouse. I wish to acknowledge Joao aka "Rockstar" who engineered my musical performance. I also wish to recognize Michelle Mras, the keynote speaker.

I have reason to celebrate. And may God give me the gift of breath to continue singing for more years to come. It is my pleasure to sing at the Hollywood Weekly Grammy Viewing gala in Santa Monica April 3, 2022. I am accompanied by wonderful musicians , Charlie Harrison on keyboard, Jimmie James on percussion, Budi Winarto on flute and sax, Jerrell Ballard on drums, Paul Maseli on guitar. This is all such a blessing. I live to sing , and sing to live and spread joy with my music.
