Disney+ Debuts Trailer and Key Art for 'The Beatles: Get Back,'

An Original Docuseries Directed by Peter Jackson DISNEY+ released the trailer and key art for the upcoming three-part series “The Beatles: Get Back.” The Disney+ original docuseries, directed by Peter Jackson, will be arriving on Disney+ just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Made entirely from never-before-seen, restored footage, it provides the most intimate and honest glimpse into the creative process and relationship between John, Paul, George, and Ringo ever filmed. “The Beatles: Get Back” rolls out over three days, November 25, 26, and 27, 2021, exclusively on Disney+. Directed by three-time Oscar®winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “They Shall Not Grow Old”), “The Beatles: Get Back” takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The docuseries showcases The Beatles’ creative process as they attempt to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with a nearly impossible deadline, the strong bonds of friendship shared by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are put to the test. The docuseries is compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage shot over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which has been locked in a vault for over half a century. Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to this Beatles treasure trove, all of which has now been brilliantly restored. What emerges is an unbelievably intimate portrait of The Beatles, showing how, with their backs against the wall, they could still rely on their friendship, good 4 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

humor, and creative genius. While plans derail and relationships are put to the test, some of the world’s most iconic songs are composed and performed. The docuseries features – for the first time in its entirety – The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row, as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be. An exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and Jackson presented by The Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd., “The Beatles: Get Back” is directed by Peter Jackson, produced by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison, Clare Olssen (“They Shall Not Grow Old”) and Jonathan

Clyde (“Eight Days a Week”), with Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones (“Eight Days a Week”) and Ken Kamins (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serving as executive producers. Jabez Olssen (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) serves as the film’s editor, the music supervisor is Giles Martin (“Rocketman”), Michael Hedges (“The Adventures of Tintin”) and Brent Burge (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serve as the series re-recording mixers, and the music is mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell (“Yesterday”).

Dodgers finally overtake Giants to reach NLCS CODY Bellinger raised his right hand and pointed it directly at the visiting dugout. He knew he had squared up a Camilo Doval slider well enough to send it past the shift and into the outfield. Once he stepped on first base, Bellinger pounded his chest multiple times and yelled loud enough to be heard through the shocked groans of a packed Oracle Park. By all accounts, Bellinger had a forgettable regular season at the plate. His .165 batting average was one of the worst in the Majors for a player with at least 300 at-bats. His struggles, just two years removed from a National League MVP Award, were one of the most shocking developments of the 2021 season. But with one swing of the bat, Bellinger erased it all and delivered the biggest hit of the Dodgers’ season, a two-strike RBI single in the ninth inning to help Los Angeles beat San Francisco, 2-1, in a thrilling Game 5 of the NL Division Series on Thursday night. After surviving an action-packed five-game series against their longtime rivals and the team they chased for seven months in the division, the Dodgers earned a chance for a rematch in the NL Championship Series against the Braves that begins on Saturday at Truist Park. In order for the Dodgers to finally get past the Giants, they needed just about every player on the roster to contribute. Through eight innings, the Dodgers and Giants had the same number of runs, hits and men left on base, a fitting summary of just how close the battles were between the two longtime rivals over the last seven months. The regular-season series was decided in their last meeting. Their run differential was just two runs. They became the 10 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

first pair of teams to have 105 or more wins in a single division. It was one of the most thrilling regular-season races in recent memory. Coming into the series, a Game 5 seemed almost inevitable. In the end, the first postseason series between the two historic franchises delivered in every way. Just hours before the game, the Dodgers announced they were starting reliever Corey Knebel as an opener, not Julio Urías, who won 20 games during the regular season. The move, while risky, turned out well for the Dodgers as Knebel and Brusdar Graterol tossed a scoreless inning each before handing the ball off to Urías. The Mexican-born left-hander delivered, allowing only one run on a Darin Ruf homer over four innings. Once Urías came out of the game, the Dodgers turned to Blake Treinen, Kenley Jansen and Max Scherzer, who recorded his first career save with a scoreless ninth. Scherzer, who was slated to be the Game 1 starter against the Braves, said he could still be ready to pitch on Saturday, depending on

how his arm feels on Friday. But on Thursday, all he could think about was the collective effort of the Dodgers’ pitching staff. In two elimination games, the unit -- which boasted baseball’s lowest ERA (3.01) during the regular season -responded by holding the Giants’ offense to just three runs in 18 innings. While the pitching staff was throwing up zeros, the Dodgers’ offense was struggling to get much going against right-hander Logan Webb for the second time in the series. Outside of three Mookie Betts singles, Webb had full control of the Los Angeles lineup. But a Corey Seager RBI double in the sixth inning finally got the Dodgers on the board. Once the Giants went into the bullpen, the task didn’t get much easier for the Dodgers. Doval has established himself as a force on the mound for the Giants, and he showed his dominance in Game 3 of the series. But after a Justin Turner hitby-pitch and a Gavin Lux single, the stage was set for Bellinger, who is no stranger to the big moment. Credit: Juan Toribio/Dodgers.com

Lakers Finish Winless to Close Preseason FOR the third time in the last decade, the Los Angeles Lakers went winless in the preseason, following a 116-112 defeat to the Sacramento Kings Wednesday night. In their second consecutive start, the “Big 3” of Anthony Davis, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook found a better rhythm and executed on both ends of the court. James looked regular season ready and for the first time in his career finished with 30 points, six rebounds and six assists in a preseason game. Coach Frank Vogel was not surprised with LeBron’s performance considering the season starts in five days. “Nothing he does surprises me,” Vogel said. “He was terrific tonight, final dress rehearsal with our group, this new team for opening night. I like how he attacked the rim, I liked how he took jump shots when the defense gave him too much space. He made them pay over the top. That’s something he has done really well over the last few years. A great performance overall.” Davis concluded his night with a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and DeAndre Jordan also earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Westbrook scored 18 points and added five assists. Off the bench, Carmelo Anthony scored 15 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc and Austin Reaves took advantage of injuries to the backcourt and made a strong case to possibly crack the opening night roster, contributing seven assists and five rebounds in 30 minutes. Despite the loss, Vogel thought the team executed well and saw the preseason as an opportunity to use practice games to build a rhythm and timing and get to the finish line healthy. For Rams secondary, group effort needed to make up for Darious Williams' absence FOR an idea of how valuable cornerback Darious Williams is to the Rams' secondary, consider that head coach Sean McVay and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris have both said his positional flexibility plays a critical role in how fellow cornerback Jalen Ramsey is deployed. In other words, Williams is difficult to replace, and won't be by just one player while he's on injured reserve with an ankle injury. According to Morris, it will take a committee approach as the Rams prepare to be without Williams for the next three weeks. Morris and Ramsey wouldn't

go into detail about what exactly the secondary would look like, understandable as not to tip off the Giants well in advance of kickoff, but Morris mentioned needing Rochell and Long, as well as safety Terrell Burgess (who has positional versatility) potentially stepping up into a bigger role after being used almost exclusively on special teams through the first five games. Donald mentioned Donte' Deayon potentially getting a bigger role as well. No matter what the group looks like, Ramsey and Morris have full confidence in the players who will be asked to step up.

Official: Julian Araujo declares for Mexico, files switch from USMNT LA Galaxy dual-national right back Julian Araujo has officially declared for the Mexican national team, filing a one-time switch from the United States that has been approved by FIFA, the federation and Araujo announced Tuesday. Araujo, 20, represented the United States in his youth and made his senior debut in 2020, but wasn't cap-tied and was eligible to switch allegiance to Mexico. He also featured for the United States at the 2019 U-20 World Cup. He's started all but one of the LA Galaxy's 28 matches this year and has added six assists. "My heart is with Mexico," Araujo said in a statement. "I'm grateful for every opportunity that U.S. Soccer has provided me to help me grow as a soccer player and now I am excited to continue my international career with Mexico." The writing appeared to be on the wall for a few months. Araujo declined the USMNT's Gold Cup call-up this summer, then again in September as he pondered his future. After the USMNT released their roster last week for October matches, head coach Gregg Berhalter didn't have much information he could add. “That’s information that he’s going to share with the group; it’s not for me to share," Berhalter said last week. Araujo is the latest dual-national to opt for Mexico after Galaxy teammate Efrain Alvarez and Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa made that decision. Conversely, FC Dallas striker Ricardo Pepi chose the USMNT. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY • 11

With this success, and his undeniable passion for life, he chooses to relay messages that inspire change, give back to communities all around the world, and be an advocate for those who need it most. Coming from humble beginnings in the small town of Knoxville, TN, Cylk became a volunteer fire fighter at age 14, and played football and basketball in high school, where he was nothing less than a star. Through basketball, a scholarship sent him to Montreal-Anderson College in North Carolina for his first year. Shortly after, he was recruited by Coach Nida, and transferred to King University where he continued his love for the game of basketball, and with that continued his legacy. After his early success, Cylk’s talent took him on an adventure playing for the National Basketball Association Entertainment League, for the Utah Jazz. During this time, an injury would occur that would change Cylk’s journey. He went through months of rehabilitation, and ultimately realized the injury was

not healing properly. At that point, a player that won the Larry Smith Award, was inducted into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame & was a 3 time 3 point shooting champion for the NBA entertainment league became a professional model. Cylk, who’s nick name means ‘Running Water’ in Cherokee, comes from a Cherokee mother, and a black father. With his edgy looks, and undeniable charm, it seemed to be a perfect fit. As we could have guessed, this venture also became a successful career for the ever talented young man, and he would go on to be seen in GQ, Sports Illustrated and major billboards all over America. He has ultimately continued his growth, and has become the founder of Cylk Enterprises, which encompasses multiple successful, and charitable endeavors he has created throughout the years. Cylk has acted in over 20 TV shows, such as, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Saved By The Bell and Walker, Texas Ranger. As well as over 40 films, most famously known for his role as Robert in ‘White Men Can’t Jump’, with his combined

films grossing over $1 billion. Incredibly, this year on his birthday, February 1st, respected congress member Tim Burchett had the American flag flown over the United States Capitol in Cylk’s honor. Tim Burchett is the former mayor of Knox County, TN, and the current U.S representative for Tennessee’s 2nd congressional district, based in Knoxville. He requested the flag be flown in honor of Cylk’s birthday to recognize his impact professionally, as well as how much he has given back to the community as a whole. To Cylk, this was such an incredible and unbelievable honor. Additionally, this year, Cylk was the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award directly from President Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

With all of his success, Cylk remains humble, friendly, energized & focused. Amongst his greatest achievements is his annual scholarship at King University, named after his mother, Betty Ruth Cozart. As well as his major involvement with many charities such as The Boys & Girls Club of America, the National Turrets Association, and the National Lupus Association, to name a few. With a passion for educating our youth, he also teaches acting in hopes to help uplift young, aspiring men & women that may not think they were capable of living out their dreams. His spark seems to rub off on everyone he encounters, and he is happy to share his magnetic personality with any of his students that are lucky enough to be able to learn from him. With a list of accomplishments that seems endless, Cylk is also the cofounder of Cures4Humanity, a cause on a mission to provide renewable energy, sustainable housing, clean water and nutritious food, ultimately with the hope to end world hunger. Through his humanitarian efforts, this educational philanthropist received the Urban League’s lifetime achievement award in 2012, which was presented to him by Martin Luther King III. Needless to say, this spirited man has molded his life into one that many of us can be inspired by. Cylk has decided to change direction once again and explore his talents in 16 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

directing. With his first film, ‘Ball of Confusion’ gaining a lot of attention, and holding two sold out shows at the Regal Theatre in his home town, only one day after the Corona Virus hit, it seems he has found another avenue to express himself in a way that can enlighten all those around him. Being the first film he directed, ‘Ball of Confusion’, which got it’s name because according to Cylk, “The world is a ball of confusion”, is a documentary that takes us on a journey through the history of basketball, and showcases it’s global impact.Working with Keith Zimmerman, Cylk provides viewers with a version of the game basketball like no one has ever seen before. Starting at the beginning of the game, and weaving in and out of the culture all the way up to present day. Cylk states “Basketball is a parody of life. You learn how to play basketball, you learn how to socialize with people. You learn that people have different perspectives that might not be like yours, and you might even learn about business. I’m in love with basketball and what it did for me”. The film will be shown at the Music City Bowl in Nashville, TN, a major ESPN bowl week which is a 4-day celebration, and the screening will be paired with his beer ‘Country Roads Beer’ & his line of Cylk Tennessee Belnded Whiskey, which Cylk is extremely proud of. This pairing will be the first diversity owned brand to be a part of the sponsorship package With his humble spirit, Cylk clearly shows joy, love and compassion through his products, he tells us “I look for sparks in everyone, I search for like energies. I look for passion and kindness in people”.

The energy he possesses is nothing less than contagious, and he continues to spread his generous heart, and kind soul, with the help of his Keeping Dreams Alive Foundation. A foundation which goes into underprivileged communities, and helps provide scholarships for struggling youth from all ages, races and backgrounds. The only cost to anyone assisted by the Keeping Dreams Alive Foundation is to go back to the community they came from, and help someone else achieve their goals. With his unwavering need to help people, Cylk’s advice to our youth is “Find something you are interested in, and study it. Ask questions, it’s something I wish I did more of. Learn the business while working on your craft”. His goal is always to spread the message of encouragement, uplift our youth and make them believe, as he does, that they are capable of accomplishing anything they want. In true Cylk spirit, he spends part of his summer giving motivational speeches at an Annual Summer Basketball Camp

that is hosted by NBA Houston Rockets assistant coach, Elston Turner. His newest directing venture, is a documentary based on the book written by Gene Stowe, ‘Inheriting The Land - Jim Crowe Meets Miss Maggie’s Will’. It is a story that parallels not only what we’re going through in America, but all around the world. This documentary, unlike one we have ever seen, dives into the lives of Maggie and Sally Ross, who lived in the late 1800’s in Marvin, North Carolina during the Jim Crowe era. The Ross sisters owned 800 acres of land, and were said to be the wealthiest family in Union County. Upon their death, they willed their land to the people they considered to be their family, and happened to be African American. In a place where it was unheard of for black and white people to associate with one another, these sisters did the unthinkable. Yet to Maggie and Sally Ross, it was simply the right thing to do. The Ross sisters lived a life with acceptance that was unusual for the 1800’s, and reporters claimed to never have seen anything like it. Their decision would go on to be argued in court, with a court date set for the Spring of 1921. At that time, what should have been a simple task of jury selection took many hours, spilling into the night and ultimately keeping the court in session until after midnight. The selection took so long because the jury members selected had to be okay with white people willing their land to black people, and this was just the first of many hiccups along the bumpy road that was ahead. Many people in the state were outraged, and in shock. They would go on to argue that the Ross sisters were taken advantage of. Yet, there was a faith of the people in court, and many wanted to see the decision of the Ross sisters request be upheld, which may be just as shocking, considering that time in history. For the Ross sisters, it was the way they chose to live, and is a way of life that would prove to be far ahead of it’s time, all starting with sisters that chose to live in love rather than in fear. Cylk stated “Lord knows we need this type of a story, now.”, and we couldn’t agree more. With this film, Cylk hopes to open our eyes, he tells us “I want to create a dialogue. I want to show the reality that if people can be treated as equals back in that era, why can’t we do it now? You can’t just say it,

you need to show it, and with the idea that you can’t unlearn something, my hope is to show that you can’t just say you love everybody, you have to show it”. Unbelievably, all the characters in the reenactments of the film will be having their debut as first time actors, as they are all descendants of the real people being portrayed, some of who still live on the very property Maggie & Sally Ross once owned. With directing being his newly found passion, and focus in life, Cylk hopes to one day take this educational documentary and use it as a platform to create a series that documents incredible moments throughout history that should have been taught in school, but somehow ended up brushed under the rug, much like the story of the Ross Sisters. Cylk tells us that he “appreciates the journey” that has taken him to where he is now, and hopes to spread the message of equality. In the future, he would love to teach a class, or even have a school that teaches the business side of show business. Teaching all the ins and outs of the many positions that need to be filled within the entertainment industry, such as production crew, costume designers and hair stylists. He has a passion for spreading encouragement and allowing his success to translate into the ability to teach and uplift men and women from all walks of life. In a film where “truth transcends color”, it’s our honor to be featuring the Hollywood premier of his new film, ‘Inherit The Land’ at our Hollywood Weekly Film Festival on November 6th at the Rawley Theatre. Although his life is one to look up to, Cylk let’s us know that there is much more to be done, and we believe he is just getting started. If there’s one thing we can learn from this multi-talented entrepreneur it’s that with love, and acceptance, anything is possible and with endless perseverance, we can all reach our full potential, and help our communities do the same. Rowan Moon Productions

The Dawn of a New Era by Hailey Ashley

W

e’re all familiar with the most well-known pairs; peanut butter and jelly, Oprah and Gayle, Jack and coke, Timon and Pumba, or the newly famous and utterly beloved, avocado and toast. Although it seems like quite the elite club, it looks like we’ve found another powerhouse pair to add to the list - Shari & Stacey. They compliment each other so well, that the dynamic duo of Stacey Blanchet and Shari Belafonte have come together to form Rowan Moon Productions, which they began in order to establish a diversified media company and create highquality content with engaging experiences that will reach a global audience. Their relationship began when Stacey and Shari met in 2016, when Stacey was working with Trend Prive magazine on an interview show. With the instant connection between the two of them, they decided to continue with the project on

20 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

their own and turned it into something different. With countless hours of interviews, and endless information shared between the two, they turned the material into a film, and the interview into a friendship. That is when they created a documentary called ‘In the Know with Shari Belafonte’, which is available on Amazon. It was then that Shari broke the news to Stacey by telling her “Sorry, but you’re a producer”, and they ran with it. Shari’s documentary is a sit down with the multi-talented star. On the big screen we get to dive into her past as Shari discusses growing up being the daughter of a famous entertainer and human rights leader, how her career in the late 70’s as assistant to the producer comes to life, as well as becoming the second Woman of Color to ever appear on the cover of Vogue Magazine, following Beverly Johnson. She was also the first Woman of Color to ever grace the covers of Self Magazine &Los Angeles Magazine.

Shari has lived a life in the spotlight, as the daughter of Marguerite, a psychologist, and Harry Belafonte, who is a well-known singer and actor. She began an early career as a model, becoming a successful cover girl and starring in commercials for Calvin Klein jeans. In her early years, she became an assistant to the publicist at Hanna Barbara Productions, and while paying her dues behind the scenes, Shari was “accidentally discovered”, and received several modeling opportunities. As we get to see in her documentary, those opportunities ended up allowing her to appear on the cover of Vogue Magazine 5 times. Currently, she is tied with Rihanna for most Vogue covers as a Person of Color. The other half of Rowan Moon, Stacey, also has a documentary titled ‘The Journey to Myself’, which she describes as her “unfinished life story”. The documentary takes us on a journey of the life of Stacey Blanchet, who is a

Shari Belafonte woman of many roles, including fashion designer, publicist, film maker, producer, and daughter. On the screen, we are inspired by Stacey’s ability to fight for herself and learn to embrace the damages she faced to become the woman she is today. In her own words, Stacey tells us, “I want to be a work in progress until the day I die”, and it is clear that her journey is far from over. Although both these ladies have extensively successful backgrounds in various entertainment fields, they both wanted more for themselves. Their continuing evolution has taken them on a journey of new partnership, friendship and through the hardships of COVID-19. We can look forward to a few of their upcoming projects, including the documentary series show, ‘Scions’, hosted by Shari, and co-produced with Texas Crew Productions. The new series explores our celebrity obsessed culture by focusing on people born into the limelight, the children of the super famous, and their firsthand stories of growing up in their celebrity parent’s shadow while they attempt to make a career - and a life - of their own. Additionally, we can look forward to what seems to be a laugh out loud series titled ‘Chix on the Links’, described as “comedians in golf carts drinking vodka”. It’s a project that’s close to Shari’s heart, and she tells us “If you don’t play golf, you assume it’s boring, but it’s actually really funny”. On this series, we can look forward to seeing that golf doesn’t discriminate. With guest appearances from stars ranging from Martin Sheen all the way to rapper Shwayze, we see the extreme, and hilarious, world of golf in a different light.

As they look towards the future, their goal is simple - to put out good content. The task of doing this may be simple to understand, but it’s no easy feat. When discussing how a company can get a project going in the right direction, Stacey let us know “It is important when shopping your projects, you have the following (Deck, Top Sheet and budget). If you partner with another production company, you will need a deal memo between the two companies. Where your project lands will determine how correct your budget is. There is a process to getting your foot in the door and you must understand and respect it.” When we asked her for some advice for those working on a project of their own regarding how they would be able to get financing and distribution for their projects, Stacey states, “These two questions are the most important questions to anyone in any business. If you get outside financing prepare to lose control of your project. If you finance yourself, you must know about distribution houses and/or sales agents and how they work. Should you go down the road of filming and distributing yourself, ask yourself, how will people see my project? You better have a big budget for that. Ultimately this always comes down to walking through the entire project.” Shari added, “Having a toe in the door helps, but get used to the idea that it may

take months, even years, to get everything up and running. So, be prepared. Distribution is key, but you also must be flexible. And be tenacious, or at least have a tenacious partner”, she laughs. When we asked for Stacey’s thoughts on partnering with the right connections, she lets us in on her secret by giving us some sound advice, “Your connections are solely based on you and the kind of person you are. If you are genuine with people and treat them with respect you will get the same in return. Everyone can always spot someone who is out for themselves. You will find that you will create your connections and hold on tight if they are people you can trust.” At Rowan Moon Productions, it seems that Stacey and Shari are creating a new experience in their field where there is no discrimination, and anyone with an interesting story is getting the opportunity to share in their success. People with content from all walks of life, different backgrounds, ages, races and religions are welcome. With that, these top-notch professionals seem to be creating an entirely new lane in a field that can tend to be an old, one way road, and we’ can’t help but jump on for the ride.

with Season 5 of ‘Dangerously Funny’

ecently, the world has been in the dark shadows of the global pandemic of Covid. With everyone looking for a break from the stress, we believe we have found the medicine we all need to maintain our sanity, and it comes in the purest form of

comedy. Jimmie Lee- The Jersey Outlaw – “the comedian on the streets” is just the dose of laughter we’ve been yearning for, and just the cure we need. The Jersey Outlaw has branded with his hit comedy TV show, Dangerously Funny, now shooting

in Season 5. Jimmie has filmed this year in Las Vegas, New York City, Atlantic City and Hollywood, and there’s more to come. He also filmed last year in 2020 , including stops to London. Jimmie Lee’s comedy is a unique brand of street comedy, that combines one liners, insults and zingers, with “Jersey Attitude” in an “old school wise guy style” similar to Rickles and Dangerfield. His style is very unique in that nobody is doing this kind of comedy anymore. Also, Jimmie truly loves his audience and interacts directly with his fans on the street, and this has built up a big following for him. “I want to entertain and make the people laugh and have fun. I create excitement and pandemonium and mayhem on the streets. I love the old style of comedy I grew up with in the 80s and 90s, and the people seem to love it and enjoy the outrageous skits I do,” says Jimmie Lee.

WRITER/DIRECTOR HENNING MORALES

Dirt Merchants films are based on writings and teachings of Henning Morales, a premiere motivational speaker and thought leader, who has delivered keynote speeches to over a million people on four continents. His best-selling book, The Dirt Merchants, provides the foundation for most of these films.

Writer/Director Henning Morales and Photography Director Anita Razzano His passion for providing motivation, guidance, coaching and mentorship to young people to enable them to lead happy, productive lives has become his life’s purpose. His inspiration stems from his personal experiences, having been a confused seventeen-year-old troublemaker who met some high-powered motivational masters, opening him up to age old principles of success and happiness. Although he is involved in multiple projects including books, public speaking, events and films, they all have one central theme; the direct coaching of ‘kids’ and the coaches, parents, aunts, uncles, teachers and other kids who influence them. He defines kids as young people (just getting out of school), or people of any age who are young at heart. Henning is finishing his tenth film, the third part of the Hitter Twist trilogy, and is embarking on international film festival run featuring a number of his feature-length and short films including Xentastic, Street Chase, An Hero and Hitter Twist.

What’s the deal with those “We Buy Houses for Cash” companies? I n today’s real estate market, homes stay on the market for about 25 days on average before going under contract. That’s better than back in 2010, when homes were averaging 140 days to sell, but it’s still not fast, and there’s no guarantee that your home will sell in 25 days. Location, season, and many other factors affect how quickly you can sell a home.

They’re hoping you’ll be discouraged by your failure on the open market and will be willing to sell your house for cash at a reduced price.

If you need to sell your home quickly, those “We Buy Houses for Cash” billboards may have caught your eye. Can you really sell your home as-is in just a few days?

ARE THERE BENEFITS? For many people in situations such as these, selling a home quickly might be the number one priority, despite the potential to maximize return. And selling to a cash buyer certainly is fast.

WHO ARE THEY? “We buy houses for cash” buyers are not your typical buyer looking for a home to live in or rent out. They are real estate investors looking to make a quick profit. As such, they are looking to purchase a home for the lowest price possible, fix it up as needed, and sell it on the open market a short time later. These types of investors can make a huge profit on a home in just a few months. WHO DO THEY TARGET? These cash buyers are looking for motivated or desperate sellers. For example, let’s say you listed your home, but the listing eventually expired without resulting in a sale. At this point, you would probably be contacted by a cash buyer. 34 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

In the same vein, cash buyers go after people in situations that require a fast sale such as divorce, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and probate sales.

The typical financed purchase takes about 30 days to close. Appraisals, contracts, and other procedures take time, and they must be done before funds are released. Cash buyers don’t have to deal with that. They’ll typically come to your home within a day or two of you contacting them and make an offer on the spot or soon after. They often process the sale in-house and have a title company at the ready to clear the title. Cash buyers also eliminate the inspection and objection process by simply buying a home “as-is”. In only a few days, your house will be sold and you’ll be turning over the keys.

SOUNDS EASY ENOUGH. WHAT’S THE CATCH? Say goodbye to any profits and probably the equity that you’ve built up in your home. The offer that cash buyers make is often suspiciously just enough to pay off your mortgage. You will likely only receive 50-80% of market value. 80% of market value might seem like it’s worth it to avoid the hassle of going the conventional route, but the average is more like 65% of market value. Another reason to be extremely careful with these types of companies: scams. Phony investors have all sorts of tactics and tricks to extort money from desperate

sellers. You don’t want to lose money, or worse, your home, just in an effort to save time. In short, if you are considering selling your house to a cash buyer, do your research first. Selling a home to get out from under it isn’t the only alternative you have. There are other, more profitable options.

THE TIME IS RIGHT… RIGHT NOW!! SELLERS: the Market is Hot-Hot-Hot! With the listings shortage, you can get the highest Price ever now before the market turns very soon…..I have qualified buyers for your home. The Story of

JERRY BOYD A Man Who Dared to Dream

By Hailey Ashley

W

hat does success mean to you? Fame? Fortune? Or is there an entirely different meaning, unique to each and every one of us? As we dive into the life of Mr. Jerry Boyd, the definition of success is seen in an entirely new light. His incredible journey opens our mind to one of the truest forms of triumph we’ve ever seen. As we spoke to Jerry, we quickly learned that we were dealing with a man of depth. One who has been on a long, strenuous journey in life. He took us through the ups and downs he’s experienced, and the strength he’s been able to achieve. This is a man who has made something of nothing, and taken the most sour of lemons and created the sweetest lemonade. Coming from humble beginnings, Jerry was born into a family of share croppers in Alabama. From the time he could walk, until the ripe age of 10, Jerry spent his days in the fields. Day in and day out, in the freezing rain, or the beating sun Jerry did what he knew how to do, pick cotton. Living with his mother, and stepfather, he did what he needed to do to contribute. But as the days grew long, Jerry would look to the endless blue sky and dream. He dreamed of a better life for himself, and with the influence of the first television show he ever saw, ‘Cisco Kids’, he dreamed of one day being apart of the magical world of entertainment.

JERRY BOYD It became evident to Jerry that the universe had a different plan for him. At the age of 12, when the relationship with his step-father became too much to handle, Jerry ran. He was on a mission to find what all young men need, a father. Although he was tough as nails, the streets were tougher, and this boy who was forced to be a man was no match for the long, rugged road ahead. Jerry fought through countless hardships while hitch hiking from Alabama to Dayton Ohio, in search of his biological father, including one no person ever deserves to suffer through. He was molested by a man who offered him a glimpse of hope to reach his destination. At the time, this was a catastrophic experience! Without a doubt, the worst moment of his young life, and although he remained open and honest about the experience, his biggest let down was yet to come. Emotionally stoked, he says softly, after finally reaching Ohio, and coming face to face with the man I had been yearning for. (At this point he broke down), shedding tears as he talked about the parental rejection he faced. Then things took a turn for the worst, as he emotionally explained how door were slammed in his face, and how he was left with no place to turn to. ...he paused momentarily, in a very reflective manner, and cried even harder as he told us that this experience, the rejection by his father was by far the worse than anything he faced while navigating his way to Ohio, to include the molestation.

Looking for a love that could fill the void in his heart, he followed a girlfriend after high school to her sister’s home in Ohio, and after a couple of weeks, he ultimately ended up homeless, hungry, and without hope. As he continued on his quest to find his purpose, Jerry was put on a bus home, by a waitress after not being able to pay for his meal. Confused, and in need of a life with substance, he looked up and saw a sign that read ‘Join the Navy and see the world’. At that moment, his decision was made, and he didn’t look back. Young, naive, and terrified, Jerry was off to fight for his country. He soon realized he was in for much more than he could have ever imagined. Hearing shots that sounded like fireworks, he tells us, “That’s the day I grew up. I didn’t know where I was, everyone was yelling. I was just hurting”. Although the military took Jerry on a whirlwind, that produced over a decade of unimaginable war stories, it turned out to be exactly where his journey was always taking him, and placed him right where he needed to be. On a night out, Jerry was approached by a man who would fulfill the dreams he had while looking up at the sky as a child. With a great afro, he was offered an audition to play a role in the series ‘Hawaii Five-O’, where he ultimately would get a recurring part on the show. Although he was only a few years away from military retirement, he couldn’t help but believe that the dream he manifested, and subconsciously held onto as a child was finally coming true. And in

true Jerry fashion, he began his journey to Hollywood, and never looked back. Through Jerry’s story, we can all learn an important lesson - never give up on your destiny. He tells us “Always be true to who you are, and eliminate all the noise and negativity around you.” With words of wisdom we can all live by, Jerry’s success shows us that we truly can create our own dreams, regardless of what the harsh world can throw at you. So, what does success mean to you? As Jerry says “If you’re only in it for the fame, it will never work”. His is a tale of always getting back up when you’re knocked down. If we can all find a way to push through the rough patches in our lives, look up at the endless blue sky, and keep dreaming, we will end up exactly where we need to be. EXPECTATIONS “Jennifer was extremely pleasant, patient and generous with her time in showing us many properties in Laguna Beach before we decided. She had excellent knowledge of the marketplace, what we were looking for, and kept us well informed throughout the process. She was there every step of the way until we closed, and has even been available to us post purchase to look after the house as it is our second home. And always with a smile. I would recommend Jennifer to anyone looking to purchase a home in the area.” Read more client experiences at jenniferhalbert.com ‘
