Thanks to the still mind, the poet composes very many good poems bringing many various i aspects t and d angles l like lik the th Dharma Path, the People, homeland, villages, regions parents, regions, parents etc. etc

Therefore,, Mแบทc แบท Giang g is both the poet p of the age g and Master entering into life. His poems appears in music, song and on many various, multiform and abundant electronic web pages because he writes poetry in his joyful and unattached mind like water water, every nook and cranny his poems flow freely, every region his poems, which are also present, are not for personal benefit. With such a pen name, with the Dharma name like this and with the mind like that, he has contributed and is contributing g many good poems to human life. Mặc Giang’s Poetry brings many various, multiform and plentiful subjects, among them, towards writer of this writing writing, the salient topic is “the Flowery Substance” in his poetry. In the Substance poem of “the Ethical Flowers,” he mentions flowers, he writes poetry in the style of soliloquy both writes and answers it:

“The moral flowers are what flowers, Searching g for them all over the world is not found Searching for them throughout a flower market has nothing N Never hearing h i and d speaking ki what h t the th flowers fl are. The ethical flowers are what flowers Those who knows them, them please help us Everyone who also shakes their heads hears strangely g y For a long time, nobody has khown what the flowers are.

The ethics which blossom get wonderful, Sprout from anger with passion and delusion, C lti t fertilizer Cultivate f tili off defilements, d fil t water t impureness, i And crystallize flowers that get marvellous By y the way, y, keep p quiet q and listen attentively y Six passions seven feelings escaped from the sea of lust Lotus which blooms parts from the mud, how to seek for it Being the ethical flowers found is not difficult. difficult The ethical flowers bloom from the heart The holy roots are originated from comprehension Th darkness The d k is i no longer l covered d by b a cloud l d The clear night is pervaded by the full moon.

The ethics are created by oneself, Cultivated by oneself, manured by oneself, do not worry about something, To manure and to water is requently done like this Fragrance of gentle perfume is not much difficult. difficult If one does not have the ethics, no one gives them Do not live lusciously, spray, daub, beautify Do not adhere to the surface but to paint The rough skin and unsmooth face rapidly fade away.

The ethical flowers pervade coolness The only tree blooms, blooms ten thousand trees have many influences on its fragrance As flower of non-affliction is wonderful Its direction pervades throughout all directions. The ethical flowers are made by you you, Who live sincerely; Who are not suffered, suffered do not make the others suffered Like a dazzling while cloud in the blue sky. The ethical flowers of everyone That live in friendship, harmony, beauty and f freshness; h That move forward on the path of the Four Noble Truths The The ethical flowers have a smile on one’s lips. (Mặc Giang – The Ethical Flowers – Oct. 2008)

Looking at the truth of the things through the meditative eyes, according to the cultivated meanings, we know very clearly in rubbish there are flowers, in defilements there is Bodhi, in suffering there is happiness, etc. Conversely, according to uncultivated meanings, in flowers there is rubbish, in Bodhi there are defilements, in suffering there is happiness happiness, etc etc. Flowers and rubbish are the literal senses, the figurative senses of rubbish are defilements of lust, anger, delusion, arrogance, doubt, wrong view, suffering, g etc. and the figurative g senses of flowers are Bodhi, happiness, peacefulness, easiness, liberation, etc.

In flowers and in rubbish,, there are the substance of fading away, that of droop, that of impermanence, no-self, freshness, firmness, leisure, peacefulness, deliberation, etc. The training process is the process of transforming greed greed, anger anger, delusion, arrogance, doubt, etc. and is the process of gathering flowers and fruits of peacefulness and happiness for the others and for oneself right in this life.

Indeed, in our daily life, Indeed life we skillfully know to take advantage of suitable time to train, to do the good, to say y the g good and think of the good g to bring g flowers and fruits of benefit to ourselves, to the others and to all, we can transform rubbish into fl flowers, defilements d fil t into i t Bodhi B dhi and d suffering ff i into i t happiness. Cultivation is for us to see flowers in rubbish Bodhi in defilements rubbish, defilements, happiness in suffering, etc. From there, we wake up and arouse the seeds of flowers, Bodhi and happiness in our body and mind by practicing, fostering and watering speeches of likeableness and loving, th those off right i ht mindfulness i df l and d awareness in i every minute every second of the authenticity of life.

Cultivation that does not have the short time to succeed needs to spend the period of year and month cultivating, training, testing, enduring, bearing and surmounting g all the obstacles to our life. The wellcultivating process is the process of embracing, identifying and transforming unwholesomely mental formations into wholesomely mental formations. formations

Throughout our life, our high mission is to train and free ties, ties is to bring up the heart of loving kindness and compassion towards all living things and living beings and is to transform our steps, gestures, speeches, h thoughts th ht and dd doings i maturely, t l spotlessly tl l and peacefully to bring peacefulness and happiness to the many. y

In the process of purification and transformation, we cannot avoid rubbish of affliction ffli ti th thatt we can search h outt B Bodhi. dhi Depending on defilements is for us to cultivate, identify transform them and find out flowers identify, and fruits of peacefulness and happiness right in our body y and mind of mindfulness and awareness.

Only needing and practicing the Buddha’s teachings flexibly, stably and leisurely in every suitable place and time we can transform wrong view into right view, time, view wrong thought into right thought, wrong speech into right speech, wrong action into right action, wrong livelihood into right livelihood, wrong effort into right effort, wrong mindfulness into right mindfulness, wrong concentration into right concentration, suffering into happiness, so on and so forth.

Basing B i on a d dusty t minor i tto clean l d dustt tto see th the light of insight in the minor. Basing upon man of four great elements (2) and five aggregates (3) to make poems and literature to be devoted to life and the Dharma Path and to forward flowers and fruits of authentic peacefulness and happiness to the others and ourselves right in this life.

Therefore, Th f abandoning b d i defilements d fil t to t seek k for f Bodhi, that thing does not happen; keeping away from suffering to look for happiness happiness, that thing cannot find out; staying away from the dusty minor to search for the light g outside the first, that thing cannot happen; parting ordinary person to look for a fruit of saint outside person himself, th t thi that thing cannott h happen.

A well-cultivated well cultivated person must find Bodhi in defilements, happiness in suffering, clear understanding g in ignorance, g the substance of sage in human being, etc. We understand and practice so, peacefulness and happiness are i b d with imbued ith our body b d and d mind. i d

Indeed, we are persons of depending on other Indeed conditions and elements; basing on them, we can find ca dp precious ec ous values, a ues, fruits u ts o of peace peacefulness u ess and freedom of saint in people we have had. Forgeting and losting people, we cannot find the substances. So, Bodhis and happiness, firmness and easiness, peacefulness and liberation that are purified from the defilements of desire, anger, delusion, doubt, pride, etc. are found out from people of cultivation and transformation of ourselves.

The ethics which blossom get wonderful, Sprout from anger with passion and delusion, Cultivate fertilizer of defilements defilements, water impureness, And crystallize flowers that get marvellous. The ethics are created by oneself, Cultivated by oneself, manured by oneself, do not worry about something, To manure and to water is requently done like this Fragrance of gentle perfume for us is not much difficult. difficult

The ethical flowers are made by you, Who live sincerely; Who are not suffered, do not make the others suffered Like a dazzling while cloud in the blue sky.

We know flowers which are made of cosmetics, cosmetics scent, perfume, etc. quickly fade away and change. Flowers which are made of fertilizer, fertilizer rubbish rubbish, air air, sunlight, workers, etc. are dominated by impermanence. But flowers which are made of the ethics we call ethical flowers are not dominated by impermance ; flowers which are made of cultivation, lti ti off fi fine impressiveness, i i off practice ti off right mindfulness and awareness, etc. are not dominated by impermanence, impermanence are beyond time and space, their substance is very solid and at ease towards p practitioner of peacefulness p and deliberation.

If one does not have the ethics, no one gives them Do not live lusciously, spray, daub, beautify f Do not adhere to the surface but to paint The rough skin and unsmooth face rapidly fade away. Fragrance in species of flowers, Not flying against directions of the wind, But fragrance of virtuous persons, Against the wind, it still flies. (Dhammapada, verse 54)

The ethical Th thi l flowers fl pervade d coolness l The only tree blooms, ten thousand trees have many influences on its fragrance As flower of non-affliction is wonderful Its direction p pervades throughout g all directions.

With the interdependent sight, we know flowers which are made of rubbish and lotus which is made of the mud. Leaving rubbish, we do not see flowers, leaving the mud, we do not see lotus. Lotus which is made from the mud has the value. Flowers which are made from rubbish is fragrant, beautiful and fresh. Of course, cou se, tthey ey must ust a also so depe depend do on ot other e e elements e e ts such as fertilizer, workers, water, air, sunlight, etc.

Likewise, Bodhi, which is purified from d fil defilements, t has h the th value l off insight. i i ht Of course, we must spend the process of cultivating and training our body and mind maturely and perfectly, we can become pillars of the Dharma Path and the people p p p and can bring firm confidence to the many.

We know although lotus, mud, flowers, rubbish, etc. are impermanent, we depend on them to find their authentic meanings. The mud and rubbish here symbolize the body y and mind of affliction,, officiousness,, impurity, p y, etc. Lotus and flowers here represent practitioner’s peaceful, solid and leisurely body and mind.

Thich Trung Sy with Master Thich Nhat Hanh In October 2008 in India

The e process p ocess o of cu cultivation t at o is s the t e precoess p ecoess o of cuddling, cudd g, bringing b g g up, recognizing and transforming the body and mind of affliction, officiousness, impurity, etc. into them of peacefulness, liberation, solidity and easiness. Indeed, once ignorance, defilements and suffering are purified and matured, the light of insight, peacefulness and happiness shine and appear. Cultivation is for us to obtain the light of insight, insight peacefulness and happiness in the body and mind of each of us, from here, we can bring the insight, peacefulness and happiness to many persons.

“Darkness is erased, the dawn shines, Ignorance is wiped out, the brilliant germ lights up th orient the i t pearl, l Oh, human life! striding across the bridge together, together On the virtuous and noble way, we go back to the true,, the good g and the beautiful. ((4)) By the way, keep quiet and listen attentively Six passions seven feelings escaped from the sea of lust Lotus which blooms parts from the mud, how to seek for it Being the ethical flowers found is not difficult.

The ethical flowers bloom from the heart The holy roots are originated from comprehension The darkness is no longer covered by a cloud The ec clear ea night g t is s pe pervaded aded by tthe e full u moon. oo The ethical flowers blossom in the heart The key and lock of jail opened freely Four seas of the space are the shores of oases Loosing one’s hands to go to market and walking leisurely. The ethical flowers bloom in one’s soul Self-assistance and selflessness-assistance but let go The others and one that are empty p y are separated p from that and this Nothingness cannot tie heaven and earth.

When flowers of viture or those of loving-kindness and compassion have been already obtained, our body mind are very y peaceful p and happy, ppy, the orient pearl p in us appears. From here, we steadily go on the peaceful path of Saints, we go together with ourselves and we go together with the others to manifest the Dharma body of many persons and to illuminate the light of the Dharma. Wanting to achieve so, we must transform and remove six desires (5) and seven feelings (6) by keeping our body and mind of right mindfulness and g in and breathing g out awareness,, breathing consciously, etc.

We know six desires and seven feelings which are the negative seeds in our body and mind stir and change in every moment of our life. When the seeds arise, in spite of the wholesome seeds or the unwholesome ones, ones we keep on the steady confidence of cultivation to identify and transform them. We are placidly before the words of praise and blame in the world. ‘The wise are like the cliffs, the violent wind does not move, the words of deserving praise, which do not shake eyebrows.’ (7)

As g good practitioners, p , keeping p g the mind like this, we steadily and gently do the useful things that we need to do, are doing and shall do to bring authentic peacefulness and happiness to the others and to ourselves right in this life. life

The ethical flowers of everyone That live in friendship, harmony, beauty and freshness; That move forward on the path of the Four Noble Truths Th ethical The thi l flowers fl have h a smile il on one’s ’ lips.

We know once we abide, abide train and live with the Buddha’s teachings in every second and every minute, our body y is peaceful, our mind is solid, at that time the ethical flowers in us appear, we steadily go on the peaceful path of the Buddha, th t off P that Patriarch ti h and d that th t off the th noble bl Sangha. S h The peaceful path brings the figurative senses, but in fact, fact we apply and practice the Buddha’s Buddha s teachings into daily life of each of us. Having reached to this stage g already, y, we are very y leisurely and relaxed, we are very stable and at ease, and we can bring the light of the golden Dharma to the many.

“Udumbara flowers pervade the garden of the truth Flowers of lovind lovind-kindness kindness and compassion penetrate through all directions, Oh, human life! quickly striding on the way Our hands are clasped to vow together, the golden Dharma is forever bright. (8)

In brief, through the foregoing things, each of us is an ethical flower, flower each of us is a flower of lovind lovind-kindness kindness and compassion, each of us is a poet Mặc Giang and each of us is a master Nhật Tân so that everyday we can dedicate a sentence of poem, a paragraph of poem, a poem and more to homeland, to the Dharma path, to the people, to us, to the others and to all. To sum up this writing, the author practices making some sentences of poem to dedicate them to you seeing them below for joy joy.

The ethical flowers penetrate into the mind, Flowers of loving-kindness and compassion are fully filled with mountains and rivers. Each of us is each of poet poet, Offering the world sweet-delicious flowers and fruits. Although tomorrow is far away from thousands of the route, We are forever the Buddha’s spiritual children, Bringing the light of loving-kindness and compassion to the Dharma Path, Bringing love to spread over all directions. Though arduousness and miserableness know how to look, Our steadiness is that we can overcome all all.
