Pa r i s J e t ´ a i m e September, a month of new beginnings and time for one of the most anticipated events in interior design and décor: Maison & Objet. We find inspiration in Paris, in its “French Style”, its streets and buildings, in “Parisien Bohéme” and all its glamour. We recover the high ceilings, luminous rooms, rich mouldings and colour-washed woods combined with the latest Deco trends.

P.05

With the end of the First World War, Paris lived an explosion of joy and celebration in every field, becoming a beacon for artists, writers and poets. This gathering of talent in the City of Light resulted in a whole range of avant-garde movements and new artistic trends, especially Art Deco. The refinement of Art Deco’s precise clean lines, geometric shapes, luxurious materials and the play of volumes and forms imparted a unique energy to furniture, jewellery, glasswork, photography, cinema and graphic arts. The decorative arts were reborn, opening new avenues for chromatic combinations, prints and fabrics. Opulence and extravagance served as a welcome contrast to the years of war and austerity as well as a form of escapism from the looming economic depression and the threat of a second war. Enjoying life, to the rhythm of jazz, became an obsession.

P.06

P.07

The decorative tastes of this era were expressed in a passion for opulent materials such as aluminium, copper, steel, ebony, rosewood, marble, granite, furs and other exotic materials such as mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, shark and zebra skins and newer materials such as chrome and plastic. The interplay of black and white became one of the hallmarks of the Art Deco style, combined with metallic greys, gold-leaf, chrome and bronze with bright colours.

P.09

Copper, brass, grille-work, marble, linen and velvet combined with a pallet of ochres, powder pink and terracotta are used to create sophisticated spaces with a fresh, contemporary feel. We are suggesting our Urban Chic catalogue this autumn with more eclectic, modern and casual combinations for the season. Tempted?

N A PA R B I E R Craft beer + GASTRONOMy Hisbalit’s exclusive Art Factory personalisation service brings surfaces to life with cool Retro results.

P.12

P.13

The studio had to create an atmosphere that combined the traditional and the industrial. The commission presented a particular challenge for the designers and decorators given that Barcelona is the heart of craft brewing in Spain. It was essential to make an impact.

The prestigious Lázaro Rosa-Violán studio was commissioned to realise the vision of the owners of Navarra’s craft brewery Naparbier and continue the tradition of Brew Pubs, establishments where beer is brewed and consumed onsite. In this case it is a hot spot for lovers of craft beer, combining traditional brewing techniques with contemporary Catalan cuisine. And so Naparbier Barcelona was born, a restaurant/brewery located in the heart of the Eixample district of Barcelona.

P.14

P.15

The contrast of materials is striking throughout, where the rustic – wooden tables and stools – is combined with more industrial elements and features. The restaurant contains its own on-site brewery in full view of the patrons. To the décor was also added the “rock and roll” touch of the proprietors. In keeping with the highly personal design of the space, a unique floor pattern was created thanks to Hisbalit’s Art Factory service. This exclusive service permits the creation of unique decorative features through an “a la carte” selection of colours, textures and compositions.

The creative concept of the project was based on the image of an apothecary, a combination of the classic and the modern. The aim was to associate craft beer with the notion of a potion or elixir, as prepared by the apothecaries of old. P.16

P.17

The opportunity offered by Hisbalit to produce customised typography, images and logos allowed the creation of a unique and exclusive space bursting with personality.

The floor of the brewery has a very special design composed of black and white floral motifs giving a cool Retro feel to the space. Hisbalit’s unique Identity Mosaic also played a key role in the project. The name of the brewery “Naparbier” was reproduced in hexagonal mosaic tiles using this exclusive product.

Co ca - Col a Hisbalit transforms C o c a - C o l a’ s S pa n i s h h e a d q u a r t e r s In hand with Stone Designs Coca-Cola may be the most universally recognised and potent brands around the world. The core message of the company in its image and its actions is the concept of happiness. Always attentive to the latest trends, the company commissioned Stone Designs to transform its Spanish headquarters. This represented an enormous challenge for the interior design studio; to transmit the values of energy and optimism while respecting the dynamic work model of the Coca-Cola Company.

P.20

P.21

The result has been a series of spaces (reception, canteen and cafeteria) bursting with character and personality. Colours, forms, materials‌ all employed to create an effect that is both adventurous and familiar. The communal spaces, inspired in an open concept, give employees and visitors alike the feeling they are at home.

P.22

P.23

Additionally, as these are the headquarters of Coca-Cola Iberia, they had to reflect the social aspect of the Spanish character while having the adaptability to be converted into a work or meeting space when necessary. As we all know, the best ideas flow in a relaxed atmosphere over a coffee or aperitif!

P.24

The canteen has a welcoming feel, reflecting Coca-Cola’s philosophy that “happy employees give the best of themselves”. The space is the definition of versatility. This is not a place where all the tables are the same or lined up in rows. Stone Designs aimed to create a variety of spaces and atmospheres, because there are times when we are with a group of colleagues and others when we need to work quietly or have a private conversation. P.25

HISBALIT IN THE PROJECT On this occasion, the studio decided to work with Hisbalit mosaic tiles, given the broad range of colours and forms available. The hexagonal mosaic tile takes centre stage, selected from the Unicolor collection, specifically reference 103 A.

In designing the new floor of the reception area, Stone Designs decided to emphasise Coca-Cola’s corporate colours: red (reference 176F) and white (reference 103A), also from the Unicolor collection, as well as two other tones (references 306 and 106) from the same Unicolor collection. The execution of this design was made possible thanks to the exclusive Art Factory personalisation service from Hisbalit.

One of the stars of contemporary Spanish design, Pepe Leal initially studied Art History before dedicating his talents to his passion for interior design and dĂŠcor. After a time in the fashion world, he also expressed his creativity in designing furniture. While his projects have a striking aesthetic impact, he is a firm defender of functionality. We share his love of colour!

1// H o w w o u l d y o u d e f i n e P e p e L e a l a n d h i s s t y l e ? I don’t think I have a definite or clearly identifiable style; at least I don’t see it myself. My aim, in all my projects, is that the style of my client remains prevalent. I try to bring out the best in them, provide a filter to order and give coherence to their tastes to create very personal, different and distinctive projects. I don’t like to impose my style everywhere I go but try to find the style that best fits the space, the location and my client’s personal tastes, and of course, their budget. To approach the project in a professional manner but not so it shows too much.

F o r y o u , w h a t d o s u r fa c e s c o n t r i b u t e t o a s pa c e ?

Well, it depends on the project… there are times when the wall and floor surfaces are the real heart of the space, serving to reinforce or even determine the specific style we have chosen. In that case, it’s everything. Other times, however, we look for more neutral surfaces, merely to accompany, complement, contrast or reinforce other protagonists. But, of course, in our studio nothing is left to chance; everything is very thought out and forms a part of something.

W h a t fa s h i o n o r t r e n d w o u l d y o u b r i n g b a c k ?

More than any fashion or trend, I’d like to recover the traditions, trades and craftsmanship that are disappearing. We are losing a great deal of techniques and skills that only come from experience, handed down from generation to generation. I’m also troubled by the way wallpaper is going. It’s becoming just an enlarged photograph instead of what it truly is, putting paint on paper, and fewer and fewer people are doing it.

Y o u r m o s t p e r s o n a l p r o j e c t , y o u r m o s t e n j o ya b l e p r o j e c t, yo u r m o s t f u n c t i o n a l p r o j e c t.

The most personal, without a doubt, is my home. The most enjoyable is difficult to choose because, although it sounds like a cliché, I enjoy all my projects with the same intensity. I think it’s part of my life, enjoying them. If not, I don’t think I’d be happy! I have really enjoyed the various editions of Casadécor, because I get to do what I want. Generally, these have been my best projects. And finally, the most functional… Mmmm, I don’t know. They should all be functional. If not, I wouldn’t be a good professional. I don’t think I could pick out any one in particular.

Proportion. The dialogue between objects. The rhythm of accent and silence, absence and fullness. Basically, finding balance… like everything in life.

C o l o u r s yo u c o u l d n ’ t l i v e w i t h o u t.

Ha ha ha. All of them! There are no ugly colours in nature. Ugliness comes from us. I couldn’t imagine my life without colour.

7// W h a t h i s t o r i c a l e r a d o y o u m o s t i d e n t i f y w i t h a e s t h e t i c a l ly ? All of them have something admirable, marvellous. For me, the most complete of all is the 18th century. The urban design, landscaping, architecture. It was a really revolutionary time in all aspects. But, of course, it’s a hundred years; you can’t compare it to other more specific or recent periods. The 1950’s is another era that I strongly identify with.

I f y o u c o u l d o n ly c h o o s e o n e , w h i c h H i s b a l i t c o l l e c t i o n w o u l d yo u c h o o s e ?

I’d die if I could only choose one! But, if I had to, I’d choose Urban Chic.

Hisbalit participated in this exhibition given the close ties it has with the country. The relationship between Hisbalit and Mexico began in 2006, beginning a process of internationalisation of the company and which has been sustained over the years through a number of contracted projects. Over a decade later, Hisbalit has consolidated its position as a leader in the mosaic tile market in Mexico. Through this process of internationalisation, Hisbalit mosaic tiles have established a firm presence in over 60 countries.
