Identity Construction: The Alchemy of Learning

This paper will begin by taking a brief look at some of the identity theories that have been expressed and developed during the 20th and 21st centuries by way of providing some background context. The main part of the essay will examine how learning can be an agent for change that has profound effects upon the development and construction of an individual’s identity. Throughout the discussion, the author will draw upon some examples of technologically mediated learning experiences that demonstrate identity construction in action.
