Prensky's paper "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants" has influenced a number of Higher Education Institutions to tackle the growing concern that not only students are learning differently, they are also using a range of personalised digital tools to work, learn and play. After it's HEA e-Learning Benchmarking exercise, Canterbury Christ Church University identified a need to raise e-capacity amongst its staff so that they were able to become more self-sufficient and be able meet the challenge of growing digital literacy amongst students and to speak their "language". Having been awarded funding to pursue a HEA Pathfinder project that addressed these issues, the University has embarked upon a series of situated, contextualised staff development programmes around a range of digital tools and applications that would support staff in developing their personal and professional practice.
