Birth Time Rectification [BTR] – “Ishta Sodhanam- ‘’ इ श धन” This paper on BTR is only compilation of BPHS and nothing more for those who are really engaged in learning astrology from classic. There are many views and options discovered by modern think pads and scholars for BTR. Basically, BTR is tried on the basis of events occurred in the life of jataka. The basic rule is given in BPHS for BTR to be done before reading the chart. Ascendant is soul and Praanapad is breathing so when both synchronized human birth come into existence. If this is not done birth is ‘sthaavar’ non-living being. This means that an inconsistency in birth time is removed by this method and pure birth time may be calculated. There are three options for BTR either by Praanapada, Gulika or Moon. Here praanapada is envisaged.

‘ ण ‘ल

कण श

वदं त ल ’ Asc always falls in trine to praanapada.

ण श पद यत

य त’ means Asc d9 and Praanapada d9 should fall in one

sign. Whenever one tells me to do BTR this is the basic rule. If you go by life event then the BTR process may prove good with this option. One may go for higher division by narrowing the Asc amsha and Praanapada amsha. For more details please refer to BPHS Varanashi edition Shri Ganeshdutt Pathak, Ch-4.Asc is mathematically calculated so it can be rectified by mathematical calculations only and its rectification cannot base on your life incidents. Please remember, BTR cannot be done on the basis of your life incidents, as it will always differ in one way or the other as there are many options and exceptions given in Vedic Astrology and by the way there is a very basic logic for not to rectify BTR by your life incidents. But this is not the subject matter of this paper so not touched here. Basically, your ascendant is your ‘atmaa-soul’, Moon is ‘mahadehadhipati’, Sun is soul and Gulika is the portion of Saturn the highest longevity giver. Praanapada is your breathing so when synchronized with soul human birth come into existence. Most of the astrologer says Gulika and Saturn are trouble inflictor. As per BPHS [Varanshi edition of Shri Ganesh Dutt Pathak] shloka-8, chapter-4, the Ascendant [Asc] not purified with reference to the ‘Praanapada’, ‘Gulika’ or ‘Chandra’ is considered as improper and it may be known as Asc of non-living being. Rules for BTR as per ‘Praanapada-PP’ are as under.

[01] Multiply the birth time ghati by 4 and put it at one place. Divide the pala by 15 and add this to above ghati of birth. Divide this result by 12, the remainder is PP rashi. [02] The remaining to the pala be multiplied by two will stand for the ansha-degree and sign [as above] and known as ‘madhyam-mean PP’. [03] adding this [the above degree and sign] to the sun’s sign degree in case of moveable rashi, 9th sign from sun’s sign degree in case of fixed rashi and 5th sign from sun’s sign degree in case of dual rashi should be added which will give you the ‘spasht-explicit or correct’ PP. By doing this when sign degree of PP and Asc is equal, the birth time is said to be correct and valid for horoscope reading. [04] There is also another method. Convert birth time into ‘pala’ and divide it by 15 and add the remainder to sun’s sign-degree as said above will give you correct PP. So this explicit PP and birth time tallied to sign-degree is valid for horoscope preparation and reading. Let us take practical horoscope of male as under. M-B:: 05-Oct-1961; 12.05; Valsad; ghati13-pala 48-

[01] ghati 13*4=52 and pala-48 /15 = 3 remainder is 3. [02] 52+3=55 /12= 4 and remainder is 7 which is the sign of PP and remainder of pala 3*2 = 6 is the degree so PP is 7sign6degree which is mean PP. Adding Sun’s degree [5th sign as in dual sign] 9.18.28 so explicit PP is 16.24.28, means, 4.24.28 which is not tallied to Asc so BTR needed. [03] BTR ghati is 13.37 so 14*60= 840+07=847/15= 56 sign remainder is 7*2=14 56S14D + 9S18D = 64S02.28 = 4.02.28 which is the same d9 as Asc d9, the explicit PP. [04] Again 13.37 is birth gathi pala[4M24S], so 13*4=52 and 37/15= remainder is 7 and value is 2. 52+2=54S and 7*2=14 dg adding Sun’s sign degree 9.18.28 = 64.02.28 so correct PP is 4.02.28. Now BTR chart is as under. M-B:: 05-Oct-1961; 12.00.36; Valsad; ghati13-pala 37

Praanapada is 2Le26 So Asc d9 and Praanapada d9 is same. So here in V1 both Asc position and Praanapad position come in trine zodiac sign, in V9 in same zodiac sign, in V24 & V60 both in the same sign. So, it is considered valid for viewing and making this horoscope. The Asc of V24 falls in the Vi and in the same way Pranapada also falls in the Vi. The Asc point of V60 falls in Aries and Pranapada falls in Sagittarius, the trine sign. Jhora software has a time change tool-key that starts from 1 second to 15 seconds or more which is very useful for optimal rectification. Now let's take a horoscope that falls in Rashi Sandhi. F-GJ ∷ 15-June-17; 1.49; Madras-Chennai

The point of Asc is 29dgPi49 Pranapada Bindu is 12dg Ge2.02 If we do BTR here with the help of Jhora software, the horoscope is found as follows which tallies to V1, V9, V24 and V60. The time of rectified birth is 1.58.32. Asc point is: 02Aries37.06 AND PP is 02Le33.26 So here in V1 both are in triangles, V9 in one zodiac sign, V24 is in one zodiac sign and V60 both are in triangle. So in this way the events of life can be revealed by

doing the due rectification. The student and the reader can decide whether it is right to search for life events from this BTR or whether it is proper to do BTR from life events. One thing should always be keept in mind that there are many options and methods to map the life events given in our scriptures. If you know it, do the BTR first and then evaluate the event is my honest view.
