Para esta temporada no hace falta calentar motores, precisamente, en Sotogrande, ya vienen de por sí a toda máquina para un calendario que se antoja impresionante en la urbanización. Con unos datos y una inercia de mercado, especialmente el vinculado al sector inmobiliario y deportes de lujo; que mantiene su perfil de escalada positiva; unido a los grandes hitos que nos esperan en los próximos meses, la emoción y el optimismo está más que justificado.

El próximo mes de junio desembarca en el Real Club Valderrama, en pleno corazón de Sotogrande, uno de los eventos deportivos más importantes en golf internacional. Nada menos que el LIV Golf, una de las competiciones con mayor elenco de estrellas en este deporte, visitarán la urbanización en un formato más que divertido e impresionante. Una apuesta por el golf que parece que no se acaba ahí, ya que todas las campanas suenan y apuntan a que el European Tour mantendrá su visita con un torneo, nuevamente en el mes de octubre en la urbanización.

Pero no sólo de golf vive el hombre, el polo sube la apuesta. Nada menos que 22 goles para el Alto Hándicap este verano en el Torneo Internacional de Polo que organiza Ayala Polo; una gran noticia y que consolida y refuerza el liderazgo de Sotogrande en el mundo del polo, en su ventana estival.

A todo eso le sumamos festivales de música, regatas, competiciones sociales como el Circuito de Golf Sotogrande que alcanza su décima edición; presentaciones y aperturas de nuevos establecimientos, nuevos hoteles a la vista. ¿Qué más quieren? It isn’t really necessary to rev the engines for this season in Sotogrande, as they are already operating at full speed for a season that looks impressive in the resort. With data and market momentum, especially the one linked to the property sector and luxury sports; that is maintaining its positive momentum; linked to the major milestones that await us over the coming months, the excitement and optimism is greatly justified.

Next June, one of the most important sports events in international golf is coming to Real Club Valderrama, in the heart of Sotogrande. None other than LIV Golf, one of the competitions with the greatest cast of stars in this sport, will visit the resort in a very fun and impressive format. A commitment to golf that seems that it won’t end there, as all signs are pointing to the European Tour maintaining its visit with a tournament, once again in October to the resort.

However, man does not live on golf alone, polo raises the stakes. No fewer than 22 goals for the High Handicap category this summer at the International Polo Tournament that Ayala Polo is organising; great news and it consolidates and strengthens the leadership of Sotogrande in the world of polo, in its summer window.

“La finalidad del periodismo siempre será: contar historias y analizarlas”

· Muy buenas, es un placer tenerte en las páginas de nuestra revista. Es uno de los grandes nombres del periodismo nacional, cuéntenos cómo nace ese interés por comunicar y sus inicios en la profesión.

Desde niño tuve interés por los asuntos de actualidad. Mi padre compraba algún periódico todos los días, y yo me sentaba con él a echar un vistazo. Luego estudié Periodismoenlauniversidad.Empecécomo becario en la Cadena Ser y después trabajé en Televisión Española como periodista deportivo. Más tarde pasé por Telemadrid, Telecinco, volví unos años a Televisión Española y ya llevo once años en Antena 3.

· Estamos muy acostumbrados a verle en los informativos de televisión y en ocasiones en la radio. ¿Vocacionalmente qué formato le inspiraba más? ¿Hacia dónde cree que va el futuro de la comunicaciónyelperiodismodigital?

Me gustan todos los formatos que tengan relación con la actualidad. Ahora hago un informativo diario, pero en otros tiempos

dirigí magazines con entrevistas y debates. Me siento cómodo en cualquiera de estos géneros periodísticos. Y son formatos que no van a desaparecer con las novedades tecnológicas. De hecho, lo que ocurre es que se difunden aún más, gracias a los dispositivos móviles.

· ¿Cómo cree que será la comunicación dentrode10años?

Es difícil imaginarlo, porque la tecnología avanza muy rápido. Hace diez años poca gente utilizaba Twitter, y ahora lo usa todo el mundo. Y hace treinta años apenas se utilizaba internet. Quizá el año que viene inventen algo nuevo que nos cambie la vida, y que cambie también nuestra forma de hacer periodismo.

· ¿Se hace mejor o peor periodismo que en las décadas doradas de la irrupción de la radio y televisión comercial? Es un debate muy recurrente pero que suena másanostalgiaquearealidad,¿nocree?

Eso es pura nostalgia, propia de quienes creen que cualquier tiempo pasado fue

mejor. Yo no comparto ese criterio. Antes y ahora el periodismo es lo que siempre ha sido:contarlasnoticiasyanalizarlas.Luego, cada usuario de la información decide qué medio o qué periodista le gusta más. Por suerte vivimos en un país libre en el que podemos tomar ese tipo de decisiones, porque hay variedad para elegir.

· ¿Ycómonacesufacetadeescritor?

Se puede decir que esa faceta surge casi por accidente. Hace años me propusieron escribir y lo hice sobre algo que conozco bien: la política de Estados Unidos. De ahí surgió un segundo ensayo sobre la Rusia de Putin. Y escribiendo "El rastro de los rusos muertos" nació la idea de convertir esa temática en una novela. Era un riesgo, pero ha sido divertido. Y he aprendido mucho, porque para escribir tienes que investigar, y eso es muy enriquecedor.

· Hello, it is a pleasure to have you among thepagesofourmagazine.Youareoneof thebignamesinnationaljournalism,tell us how that interest in communicating emerged and about your beginnings in theprofession.

I have been interested in current affairs since I was a child. My father would buy a newspaper every day, and I would sit down with him to have a look at it. Then I studied Journalism at university. I began as an intern at Cadena Ser and then I worked at Televisión Española as a sports journalist. Later I moved to Telemadrid, Telecinco, I returned for a few years to Televisión Española and I have been at Antena 3 for eleven years.

· Weareveryusedtoseeingyouinthenws ontelevisionandsometimesontheradio. Vocationally, which format inspired you more? Where do you think the future of communication and digital journalism is heading?

I like all formats that are related to current affairs. Now I do a daily news program,

but at other times I ran magazines with interviews and debates. I feel comfortable in any of these genres of journalism. And they are formats that are not going to disappear with new technological developments. In fact, what is happening is that they are broadcasting even more, thanks to mobile devices.

· What do you think communication will belikewithin10years?

Itisdifficulttoimagineit,becausetechnology is advancing very quickly. Ten years ago there were few people using Twitter, and now everyone uses it. And thirty years ago the internet was barely used. Perhaps next year they will invent something that changes our lives, and also changes our way of doing journalism.

· Is better or worse journalism produced than in the golden decades of the emergence of commercial radio and television? It is very recurrent debate but itsoundsmorelikenostalgiathanreality, don’tyouthink?

That is pure nostalgia, characteristic of those who believe that the past was always better. And I do not share that judgement. Before and now, journalism is what it has always been: reporting stories and analysing them. Then, each user of the news decides which media outlet or which journalist they like most.Luckily,weliveinafreecountrywhere wecantakethosekindsofdecisions,because there is the variety to choose.

· And how did your facet as a writer emerge?

You could say that this facet emerged almost by accident. Years ago I got an offer to write and I did so on something that I know well: the politics of the United States. From that, a second essay emerged on Putin’s Russia. And by writing “The face of the dead Russians” the idea arose to turn that subject into a novel. It was a risk, but it has been fun. And I have learned a lot, because to write you have to research, and that is very enriching.

· ¿Cuál es el secreto para compaginar la efervescencia de la actualidad con la pausadarutinadelnovelista?

La pausada rutina del novelista lo que te permite, precisamente, es cambiar el ritmo frenético de la actualidad. Es un contraste que resulta muy sano, y que te ayuda a hacer algo que los periodistas no podemos hacer en el día a día: escribir con calma y en un formato largo.

· En su nueva novela ‘Kazan’ recorre la mayoría de los momentos históricos más determinantes del último siglo. Desde su visión analítica, ¿cree que podrían volver a repetirse? ¿Somos una sociedad más madura?

LaguerradeUcraniaesunademostraciónde que determinados desastres provocados por

el ser humano se repiten periódicamente. Nadie podía imaginar que a estas alturas del siglo XXI tendríamos en Europa una guerra como las de la primera mitad del siglo XX. La maldad siempre está presente. A veces está controlada, pero otras se descontrola. Putin se ha descontrolado, y el resultado es terrible.

· Es todo un experto en geopolítica y lo demuestra en su documentadísima novela. ¿Cómo ve las amenazas actuales? ElcursodelaguerraenelEstedeEuropa, la pérdida del liderazgo económico de Occidente,…

La historia no es estática. Evoluciona y tiene periodos distintos. Unos, más pacíficos. Otros, más peligrosos. Occidente se encuentraanteunretodeprimeracategoría, delquenodebesalirderrotado.Nosepuede

aceptar que el final de la invasión de Ucrania sea una victoria del invasor. Lo difícil es gestionar ese desenlace.

· PoniendolalupaenEspaña,¿formamos parte de la peor generación desde la transición o sufrimos la peor ‘camada’ políticadelademocracia?

Es posible que esta no sea la mejor generación de políticos, pero quizá sea porque los ciudadanos no somos capaces de generar políticos de mejor nivel. En democracia, los líderes políticos surgen de la sociedad. Esa es una reflexión que debemos hacer. Pero, igual que decía antes, tampoco en esto creo que cualquier tiempo pasadofuemejor.Todosevedeotramanera con la perspectiva del tiempo transcurrido.

· What is the secret for combining the commotion of news with the slow routine ofthenovelist?

Preciselythat,theslowroutineofthenovelist allows you to change the frenetic pace of news.Itisacontrastthatisveryhealthy,and it helps you to do something that journalists cannot do on a daily basis: write calmly and in long format.

· In your new novel ‘Kazan’ you explore most of the most decisive historic movements of the last century. Through your analytical vision, do you believe they could be repeated again? Are we a more maturesociety?

The war in Ukraine is a demonstration that certain disasters caused by humanity

repeat on a regular basis. Nobody would have imagined that at this point in the 21st century we would have a war in Europe like those of the first half of the 20th century. Evil is always present. Sometimes it is controlled, but at other times it gets out of control. Putin has got out of control, and the result is awful.

· You are a real expert in geopolitics and you show that in your much documented novel. How do you view the current threats? The course of war in Eastern Europe, the loss of economic leadership oftheWest...

History is not static. It evolves and has different periods. Some are more peaceful. Others are more dangerous. The west is facing a challenge of the highest degree, that it must not emerge from defeated. It is not

possible to accept the end of the invasion in Ukraine being a victory for the invader. The difficult part is managing that outcome.

· Focusing on Spain, are we part of the worst generation since the transition or are we suffering from the worst political “litter”ofthedemocraticera?

It is possible that this is perhaps not the best generation of politicians, but perhaps that is because us citizens are unable to generate politicians of a higher quality. In a democracy, political leaders emerge from society. That is a reflection that we must make. But, just as I was saying before, I don’t believe that the past was always better. Everything looks different with the perspective of past time.

· ¿Qué cualidades serían las idílicas paraelpróximolíderpolítico?

Lo mejor sería que tuviera capacidad para unir al país en un proyecto nacional a largo plazo, que pueda ser asumido en sus términos generales por todos los partidos. Pero no soy muy optimista al respecto.

· Antes de acabar, algo más personal. ¿Dónde podemos encontrarle cuando no está trabajando? ¿Qué le divierte y apasiona?

Me pueden encontrar corriendo cerca de mi casa, o jugando al fútbol con mis amigos, o tocando el piano, aunque más bien lo aporreo. O, simplemente, viendo una película con mi familia. Y, por supuesto, en el estadio Metropolitano, para animar al Atleti.

· Imagino que la información en casa es toda una religión. ¿Cómo llevan esa sana rivalidad por las audiencias o por conseguirunaexclusiva?

La información es parte de las charlas que tenemos en casa mi mujer y yo, pero

no nos pasamos el día hablando de las noticias. Hay que tomarse descansos de vez en cuando. Y no nos ocupamos de las audiencias.Esunasuntoquequedaparala faceta profesional de cada uno.

· Si no conoce Sotogrande, apúntese un ‘debe’ en la agenda de 2023 muy importante. Queda más que invitado a disfrutar del golf, del polo, la vela y las fantásticas playas de nuestro entorno. Hasidounverdaderoplacer.

· What qualities would be ideal for the nextpoliticalleader?

The best thing would be that they had the capacitytounitethecountryinalongterm national project, that could be accepted in general terms by all the parties. However, I am not very optimistic in that regard.

· Before finishing, something more personal. Where can we find you when you are not working? What is fun and excitingforyou?

You can find me running close to home, or playing football with friends, or playing the piano, although really I bash it. Or simply just watching a film with my family. And, of course, at the Estadio Metropolitano, to cheer on Atletico

· I imagine that news at home is a real religion. How do you handle that healthy rival over audiences or for

A bordo de un bellísimo catamarán de 24 metros de eslora, 11 de manga, más de 200 metros cuadrados de cubierta y propulsión a vela y a motor. En definitiva, uno de los catamaranes más grandes de España y el único cien por cien accesible.

Con capacidad para 150 pasajeros, el Pura Vida se alquila por horas y con

tripulación profesional. Está preparado para acoger todo tipo de celebraciones ya sean privadas, empresariales o infantiles. En su garantía de confort se combinan la estabilidad, gracias a su doblecascoeimportantesdimensiones, y la magia de la navegación a vela.

Dispone a bordo de servicio de bar, mesas convertibles en solárium, redes en proa para tumbarse, escaleras de baño, tobogán acuático, dos aseos -incluyendo uno para personas con movilidad reducida-, pista de baile, duchas, equipo de música y proyector para presentaciones.

Its name couldn’t be more fitting: Pura Vida (Pure Life) A perfect summary of the philosophy of this project which aims to turn any event into a unique, special and unforgettable experience. How? On board a very beautiful 24-metre-long catamaran, with a breadth of 11 metres, and a deck of over 200 square metres and sail and engine powered. Ultimately, one of the largest catamarans in Spain and the only one that is one hundred percent accessible.

With the capacity for 150 passengers, the Pura Vida is rented out per hour and with a professional crew. It is ready to host all kinds of celebrations, whether private, business or for children. Un enorme recorrido circular de 1.600 kilómetros en pleno corazón de Europa, atravesando valles, lagos, montañas, glaciares y ciudades patrimonio de la Unesco. ¿Aún no conoces la Gran Ruta Suiza?

Si existe un país ideal para atravesar en coche ese es Suiza. Pocos lugares se pueden recorrer en poco más de una semana sin dejarte nada atrás. Su accesibilidad, sus buenas carreteras pero sobre todo sus paisajes diversos y apasionantes llenos de pueblos de cuento y sorpresas naturales lo han convertido en un destino excepcional para unas vacaciones diferentes. Se trata de un recorrido circular de 1.643 km que incluye todos los lugares destacados del país, incluyendo 22 lagos, cinco puertos de montaña alpinos, dos Reservas de la Biosfera, trece Patrimonios de la Unesco, y cientos de impresionantes ‘view points’ donde rematar el viaje con una galería fotográfica de infarto.

La Gran Ruta Suiza se compone de un total de ocho etapas -con dos pequeños desvíos para conocer Ginebra y Basilea- a cada cual más increíble. Aquí algunas recomendaciones de lo que no te puedes perder.

Etapa1:Zurich-Appenzell

Nuestro viaje por el corazón de Suiza comienza en Zúrich, centro bancario y financiero mundial. Una ciudad cosmopolita y llena de historia, ocio y cultura. Nada más abandonar este centro urbano, comenzaremos a deslumbrarnos con algunas de las bellezas naturales de Suiza. Es el caso de las cataratas del Rhin, el salto de agua más grande de Europa, con 23 metros de profundidad. La ruta atraviesa bellas localidades como San Gall, con su conjunto histórico singular y su catedral barroca, incluidos en la lista del Patrimonio Mundial Cultural de la UNESCO.

2:Appenzell–St.Moritz

La segunda etapa incluye desde pueblos singulares a algunos de los lugares más representativos del lujo y la jet set suiza. Empezamos por enclaves como Maienfeld, lugar que sirvió de inspiración a la poetisa Johanna Spyri para crear su más famoso personaje: Heidi.

Entre los puntos de interés destacan algunos como Guarda, un bello pueblo de casas del siglo XVII cubiertas con maravillosos frescos exteriores, el Parque Nacional Suizo, un área de más de 170 kilómetros cuadrados con una interesante red de senderos, o el monasterio de San Juan de Müstair, del sigloVIII,tambiénpatrimoniodelaUNESCO.Todopara acabar en St. Moritz la cuna del lujo y las vacaciones de invierno, famosa por a sus aguas medicinales que la consagraron como ciudad balneario.

Stage

1: Zurich - Appenzell

Our trip through the heart of Switzerland begins in Zurich, the global banking and finance centre. A cosmopolitan city packed with history, leisure and culture. With interesting museums, gastronomic festivals, art galleries and exclusive shops. A really complete visit that can be finished off with an excursion through Lake Zurich on one its historic steamboats.

As soon you leave this urban centre, you will begin to be amazed by some of the natural beauties of Switzerland. Such is the case of the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe, with a depth of 23 metres. The route goes through beautiful towns such as San Gall, with its unique historic complex and its baroque cathedral, included on the UNESCO list of Global Cultural Heritage.

2: Appenzell - St. Mortiz

The second stage includes everything from unique towns to some of the most representative places of luxury and the Swiss jet set. We begin with places such as Maienfeld, a place that served as inspiration for the poet Johanna Spyripara to create her most famous character: Heidi.

The places of interest notably include some such as Guarda, a beautiful town of houses dating to the 17th century covered with wonderful exterior frescos, the Swiss National Park, an area of over 170 square kilometres with an interesting network of paths, and the Convent of St. John Müstair, from the 8th century, also a UNESCO heritage site. All before finishing in St. Moritz, the birthplace of luxury and winter holidays, famous for its medicinal waters which made it a spa town.

Etapa3:St.Moritz–Bellinzona

La tercera etapa tiene como gran atractivo la posibilidad de atravesar un auténtico tesoro de naturaleza virgen. Se trata del Parc Ela, el mayor parque natural de Suiza. Sus 548 kilómetros cuadrados emanan fascinación natural con sus múltiples paisajes en torno a los pasos alpinos de Albula, Julier y Septimer y sus pueblos románticos intactos. Cerca de aquí se recomienda abandonar momentáneamente el coche para recorrer los 122 kilómetros de la línea ferroviaria Albula/Bernina, una de las más espectaculares en el mundo.

Etapa4:Bellinzona–Zermatt

La etapa cuarta es una de las más apasionantes para hacer por carretera. Supera los 300 metros de desnivel a lo largo de unos cuatro kilómetros y 24 curvas de infarto. El esfuerzo merecerá la pena con tal de disfrutar de los fantásticos glaciares suizos, como el Glaciar del Ródano o el Aletsch, pero sobre todo con tal de llegar a uno de los paisajes ineludibles para todo aquel que visite Suiza: El Monte Cervino o Matterhorn.

Este gigante montañoso de forma piramidal está considerado la montaña más fotografiada del mundo. Frente a él se encuentra el Klein-Matterhorn, la estación de teleférico a mayor altura de los Alpes, que se comunica con la preciosa Zermatt, destino favorito para los amantes del senderismo y el esquí. Una pequeña ciudad, libre de coches, con unas vistas incomparables.

Stage 3: St. Moritz – Bellinzona

The great appeal of the third stage is the chance to cross a real treasure of unspoilt nature. This is Parc Ela, the largest natural park in Switzerland. Its 548 square kilometres exude natural fascination with its many landscapes around the Alpine passes of Albula, Julier and Septimer and its intact Romantic towns. Close to here, it is recommended to leave your car momentarily to explore the 122 kilometres of the Albula/Bernina rail line, one of the most spectacular in the world.

Stage 4: Bellinzona – Zermatt

The fourth stage is one of the most exciting to do by road, it surpasses a change in height of 300 metres over four kilometres and 24 heart stopping bends. The effort will be worthwhile in order to enjoy the fantastic Swiss glaciers, such as the Rhône Glacier and the Aletsch, but above all, in order to reach one of the unmissable landscapes for anyone who visits Switzerland: The Matterhorn.

This pyramid-shaped mountainous giant is consideredtheworld’smostphotographedmountain. In front of it is the Klein-Matterhorn, the highest cable car station in the Alps, which is linked to the beautiful Zermatt, the preferred destination for those who love hiking and skiing. A small city, free of cars, with incomparable views.

Etapa5:Zermatt–Lausanne

Desde aquí el viaje en coche continúa en descenso hasta el lago Lemán, donde se encuentra el mítico castillo de Chillon, ubicado sobre una roca. Uno de los edificios de carácter histórico más visitados de Suiza, residencia durante cuatro siglos de los condes de Saboya.

Junto al lago se encuentran también las célebres terrazas de viñedos de Lavaux. Con una superficie de cultivo de 800 hectáreas, es la zona viticultora suiza por excelencia. Sus viñedos, que descansan en bancales, se aprovechan de la radiación directa del sol y la reflejada por el lago para dar lugar a unos caldos excelentes. La mejor forma de conocer la zona es subido al “Tren de las viñas” que atraviesa toda la superficie de los viñedos.

Etapa6:Lausanne–Neuchâtel

Antes de continuar rodeando el país merece la pena hacer dos paradas: Una en Lausanne, ciudad universitaria y capital Olímpica, y por supuesto Ginebra, símbolo de la “metrópoli más pequeña del mundo” y famosa por su selecto arte relojero y su popular Jet d'Eau, un fotografiadísimo chorro de agua a 140 metros de altura.

De ahí, el viaje continúa hacia el “Creux du Van”, un vallerodeadodeparedesrocosasdehasta160metros de altura, y el Neuenburgersee, el lago más grande situado completamente en Suiza, con 38 kilómetros de largo y 8 de anchura.

Stage 5: Zermatt – Lausanne

From here, the journey by car continues downwards to Lake Geneva, home to the legendary Chillon Castle, located on a rock. One of the most visited historic buildings in Switzerland, for four centuries it was the home of the House of Savoy.

Next to the lake are also the famous terraces of vineyards of Lavaux. With a growing area of 800 hectares, it is the Swiss winemaking area par excellence. Its vineyards which grow on terraces, harness the direct light of the sun and that reflected by the lake to produce excellent wines. The best way to discover the area is on board the “Vineyard Train” which crosses the entire area of vineyards.

Stage 6: Lausanne – Neuchâtel

Before continuing around the country, it is worth making two stops: one in Lausanne, a university city and Olympic capital, and of course Geneva, symbol of the “world’s smallest metropolis” and famous for its select art of watchmaking and its popular Jet d'Eau, a much photographed 140-metre-high jet of water.

From there, the journey continues towards “Creux du Van”, a valley surrounded by rocky walls measuring up to 160 metres high, and the Neuenburgersee, the largest lake located completely in Switzerland, 38 kilometres long and 8 wide.

Antes de volver a Zúrich, la última etapa del camino nos reserva grandes descubrimientos. Se recomienda, llegado a este punto hacer un pequeño desvío hasta Basilea, ciudad cultural por excelencia. Concentra el mayor número de museos del país, más decuarenta.Además,deunhermosocentrohistórico y arquitectura moderna. Tras esta visita obligada, retomaremos el camino hacia otro de los lugares más sorprendentes de esta ruta, la primera reserva de la biosfera de Suiza: la Biosfera de Entlebuch. Ninguna otra región puede jactarse de tantas joyas naturales como ésta que nos aguarda al final del camino con la visión de inmensos pantanos, idílicos pastos alpinos o el majestuoso pico del Schrattenfluh.

Por último volveremos a Zúrich pasando por Lucerna. Sus atractivas tiendas y su ubicación única junto al lago y las montañas, la convierten también en un destino imprescindible para los habituales de la Gran Ruta que acuden a admirar su diseño innovador, mezcla de tradición y modernidad, justo antes de regresar a casa.

Existen cientos de razones para viajar a este precioso país centroeuropeo. Lo único importante es escoger bien la fecha. Aunque el país –con más del 62% de su territorio ocupado por montañas- suele ser popular por su clima frío, la primavera es una época ideal. Before returning to Zurich, the last stage of the journey has great discoveries in store. Having reached this point, it is recommended to take a small detour to Basel, the cultural city par excellence. It houses the largest number of museums in the country, more than forty. As well as a beautiful historic centre and modern architecture. After this essential stop, we will re-start the journey towards another of the most surprising places on this route, the first biosphere reserve in Switzerland: the Entlebuch Biosphere. No other region can boat so many natural gems as thus one which lies at the end of the journey, with the view of immense swamps, idyllic Alpine pastures and the majestic peak of Schrattenfluh.

Lastly, we will return to Zurich, passing through Lucerne. Its attractive shops and location next to the lake and mountains, also make it an essential destination for regulars of the Grand Tour who come to admire its innovative design, mixture of tradition and modernity, right before returning home.

Así, cineastas tan importantes como Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, James Gray o incluso Alejandro González Iñárritu han abordado por diferentes y personales vías, desde la nostalgia hasta el componenteautobiográfico,aquellostiempos que les convirtieron en los autores que son hoy en día.

En una de las mejores secuencias del fabuloso drama autobiográfico Los Fabelman Los (7 nominaciones a los premios Oscar de este año, incluyendo mejor película y director), un alter ego del adolescente que un día fue Steven Spielberg descubre a través de videos caseros familiares rodados por él mismo en Super 8 cómo su madre está enamorada de un hombre que no es su padre, con esa correspondiente carga traumática tan presente a lo largo de toda su filmografía. In one of the best scenes of the fantastic autobiographical dram The Fabelmans (7 Oscar nominations this year, including best film and director), an alter ego of the adolescent that Steven Spielberg once was discovers through family home videos filmed by himself on Super 8, how his mother is in love withamanwhoisnothisfather,withthe corresponding load of trauma that is so present throughout all of his films. It is just one of the many moments in which the director of Schindler’s List Schindler’s List reflects on the endless power of the image as a vehicle that shapes our own existence, and it is worth highlighting the other in which one of his bullies from school reprimands him for having made him seem like nothing less than a god-like Apollo in a film shot during sports days, overwhelmed by the impossibility of fulfilling those expectations in real life.

Spielberg se suma con todo su arsenal de soluciones visuales y dramáticas (no crean que no sobra algún pegote) a la indiscutible tendencia de algunos de los mejores directores vivos a revisitar el pasado, ya sea en forma de biopic, fantasía autobiográfica, artefacto nostálgico, carta de amor al cine primigenio o recuerdos idealizados de una realidad que seguramente nunca ha existido.

Cuatro años antes, Quentin Tarantino ofreció en Érase una vez en Hollywood Érase una vez en Hollywood la que es probablemente la radiografía definitiva de Hollywood como parque de atracciones nostálgico y cementerio de ilusiones y juguetes rotos: jugando a falsear la historia (algo que ya había hechocongraciaytalentoenlaexcelente Malditos bastardos Malditos bastardos), el autor de Pulp Fiction ponía en orden su background de cultura popular en una fantasmática representación que incluía a Sharon

Otro que se pasó por la fascinante y parcialmente imaginaria California de los años 70 fue Paul Thomas Anderson en su Licorice Pizza Licorice Pizza. Reconociendo que es un film menor si lo ponemos al lado de obras maestras absolutas de este director como Boogie Nights Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Pozos de ambición de ambición o The Master, nadie puede negarle su condición de feel good movie ejecutada a la perfección, un coming on age con romance juvenil que también plantea su correspondiente juego cinéfilo con esa hilarante aparición del inefable productor de cine Jon Peters, todo un personaje, interpretado por Bradley Cooper. representation that included Sharon Tate, the sect of Charles Manson, Bruce Lee, and the already declining studio system putting the two men who are probably the two biggest male film stars of the last two decades at the centre of that environment: Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Vive en la zona desde hace más de doce años y aunque él siempre lo había consideradocomounlugarde‘veraneo’, que visitaba junto a su pareja y suegros para pasar las vacaciones; una vez que terminósusestudiosdecidióvolverpara disfrutar de al menos “un verano más”, según puntualizó, pero Sotogrande acabó por cautivarle al completo y se quedó.

Actualmente William está casado, tiene un hijo pequeño, y trabaja para una entidad bancaria pero lo realmente espectacular lo hace durante su tiempo libre en el que ejerce, de manera magistral la fotografía profesional.

Para él, cada sitio es único y este lugar es especial porque lo siente como su hogar, todo le resulta distinto y mágico. Un lugar en el que disfrutar de un gran clima durante todo el año, una comunidad perfecta para criar a un hijo y sobre todo, por la posibilidad de apreciar y fotografiar la belleza que hay en cada rincón de este lugar.

Hehasbeenlivingintheareaformore than twelve years and although he had always considered it a “summer holiday”place,thathevisitedwithhis wifeandin-lawstospendtheholidays; oncehefinishedhisstudieshedecided to return to enjoy at least “one more summer”ashestated,butSotogrande ended up absolutely captivating him andhestayed.

Desde pequeño la fotografía siempre llamó a su curiosidad: “la antigua cámara analógica de mis padres me traslada a mi niñez”, relata. Empezó en el mundo de la fotografía con retratos de todo tipo y diferente estilos: paisajes, modelos, animales, etc. Y pese a que con los años y el perfeccionamiento de su técnica ha conseguido una gran notoriedad en este campo le gustaría seguir conservado este aspecto de su vidacomounaafición,comounhobbie.

“Me encanta capturar momentos en el tiempo”.Piensaqueloquehaceespecial a la fotografía es que cuando vuelves a ver esa imagen, te lleva en milésimas de segundos de regreso a ese lugar, a revivir lo que sentiste, al perfume del ambiente".

Para William, su abuelo fue en cierta medida la llave y la puerta, al mismo tiempodetodoestemundo.Duranteuna larga parte de su vida sufrió Alzhéimer, “una enfermedad que va haciendo que los recuerdos vayan desapareciendo”. Por este motivo, a Williams le apasiona tantohacerfotografías:“quelafotografía sea un recuerdo es muy importante para mí, poder atesorar momentos en el tiempo como forma de recordar y no solo pensando en la belleza de la fotografía”. Éste es el verdadero motivo por el que comenzó a realizar retratos, para capturar momentos sencillos y convertirlos en recuerdos.

William trabaja también en diferentes proyectos para el futuro. Una de las cosas que más le llama la atención y quiere probar es la fotografía deportiva, perosabequeescomplicadoadentrarse en esta vertiente: “Hay una barrera de entrada más alta, no es tan sencillo iniciarse en ese tipo de fotografía”; consciente de todos los deportes de

élite y tan plásticos y visuales que se realizan en Sotogrande, por ejemplo. Por otro lado, también quiere comenzar a fotografiar moda de niños, tiene un hijo pequeño, que como él dice es “un poquito chulo”, y quiere aprovechar la oportunidad en estos años para compaginar su hobbie con pasar tiempo con su hijo.

Sin duda, William Birtwistle cuenta con uno de los objetivos más interesantes que apunta directamente a la urbanización; alguna de sus obras son más que reconocidas ya en Sotogrande.

For William, his grandfather was to a certain extent both the key and gateway into this entire world. He suffered Alzheimer’s during a large part of his life, “a disease that makes your memories gradually disappear”. This is why Williams is so passionate about taking photographs: “It is very important to me that photography should be a memory, being able to treasure moments in time as a way of remembering and not just thinking about the beauty of photography”. On the other hand, he also wantstostartphotographingchildren’s fashion,hehasasmallson,whoashe says is a “little dude” and he wants to harnesstheopportunityofthisyearsto combinehishobbywithspendingtime withhisson.

Con la llegada de la primavera el vino blanco se convierte en una bebida imprescindible. Su frescura y ligereza maridan como nadie con pescados, mariscos, pastas o aperitivos. El blanco siempre es una apuesta segura.

Verdejo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc. Sus nombres ya evocan por si solos elegancia, sofisticación, versatilidad, frescura. Pocas bebidas como ésta son capaces de contentar a tantospaladaresdistintosodeconvertirunsimpleaperitivoen una experiencia gourmet. Un imprescindible en las terrazas, las comidas y cenas al aire libre. Con sus reflejos dorados, su ligereza en boca, su aroma inconfundible mezcla de dulce y acidez.

El vino blanco es uno de los caldos más consumidos del planeta y lleva siendo así desde hace 2500 años. Un elixir tan especial que hasta en la Grecia Antigua el mismo Hipócrates lo prescribía como remedio de salud a sus pacientes.

Quien sabe de blancos conoce sus reglas, en este caso su regla fundamental. Y es que la única manera de aprovechar todo su potencial y sus matices es conservarlo y servirlo bien frío. Lo más recomendable es enfriarlo de dos a cuatro horas antes de servir a una temperatura entre los ocho y los doce grados -entre 8º y 11º para blancos jóvenes y ligeros, entre 10 y 12 º para los blancos con crianza-. A cambio, obtendremos un olor y un sabor inconfundibles, capaces de maridar con un sinfín de platos deliciosos.

Cómo maridarlo

Desde siempre lo más habitual es relacionar el vino blanco con los platos de pescado y lo cierto es que la combinación no podría ser más perfecta. La razón –dicen los expertos- es el hierro. Al tener el pescado una gran cantidad de hierro, lo mejoresmaridarloconunabebidaligera,frescayconeltoque justo de acidez. No obstante, existen otras combinaciones ideales como vino blanco y marisco, sobre todo si se trata de crianza.

En el caso de las carnes, se recomienda degustar el blanco con carnes blancas, como el pollo o el pavo, o carnes frías tipo carpaccio o roast beef. También queda perfecto con recetas como pastas, ensaladas, arroces, salsas marinadas, cremas suaves o incluso fruta.

Por último, si algo le queda bien a un caldo como el blanco es el queso. Cualquier tipo de queso en realidad. Desde el brie, a los quesos tiernos o incluso los curados.
