EL SEMPITERNO VERANO DE SOTOGRANDE

Las percepciones y la imagen que tenemos sobre alto, las expectativas en contraposición de la realidad, son las ideas que finalmente permanecen cognitivamente en nuestros recuerdos y en las experiencias que acumulamos de la vida. Peso a lo extenso y rico del diccionario, es complejo y casi utópico definir el verano para los sotograndinos.

La sensación de una temporada estival, tan plena como la que vivimos, es difícilmente equiparable a otro destino del mundo. Los mejores campos de golf del continente, un Grand Slam internacional de polo con varias de las organizaciones y jugadores más importantes del planeta, la regata, la playa, el sol, el mar, las terrazas y por supuesto, la calidad. El estilo de vida y la calidad de la misma en una urbanización que respira glamour y saber vivir.

Todas esas cosas y a la vez ninguna significan Sotogrande en el imaginario colectivo y personal de cada visitante o residente. THE EVERLASTING SOTOGRANDE SUMMER

The perception and the image that we hold up, the expectations opposed to reality, are the ideas that ultimately remain cognitively in our memories and in the experiences we accumulate in life. However extensive and rich the dictionary is, it is difficult and almost utopian to define summer for the people of Sotogrande.

The sensation of a summer season, as full as the one we lived, is hard to compare with another destination in the world. The best golf courses on the continent, an international polo Grand Slam with several of the world’s most important organisations and players, the regatta, the beach, sun, sea, terraces, and of course, quality. The lifestyle and quality of it in a resort that breathes glamour and savoir-vivre.

All of these things and in turn none mean Sotogrande in the collective and personal imagination of very visitor or resident. There are many concepts of this resort, one for each one, for each experience of life. “I have travelled all over the world and I have not seen the quality of life in Sotogrande anywhere else”

Modelo internacional, rostro de una de las marcas de moda más míticas de los 80 y 90, Valeria de Montenegro abre las puertas de su casa para recibir a la Revista de Sotogrande. Con ella hablamos de moda, cocina, pintura y redes sociales en una relajada charla donde la modelo se confiesa una auténtica enamorada de la urbanización, donde reside de forma permanente desde hace años.

Valeria de Montenegro, amiga de la casa y ‘sotograndina’ ejemplar, muchas gracias por recibirnos. Es un placer contar contigo en las páginas de La Revista de Sotogrande. Queríamos comenzar esta entrevista echando la vista atrás. ¿Qué recuerdos tienes de tu llegada a Sotogrande?

Yo empecé a venir a Sotogrande a veranear. Durante mucho tiempo mi padre, que es italiano, nos llevaba a Cerdeña pero entonces se enamoró de una española que quería pasar los veranos en España. En ese momento, el mejor lugar para veranear con la familia -y lo sigue siendo- era Sotogrande. La primera vez que vinimos era el año 1983.

Mi padre alquiló una casa en el Paseo del Parque. Estuvimos cuatro o cinco años viniendo cada verano. Mi padre alquilaba diferentes casas hasta que –como era constructor- compró una parcela en los antiguos terrenos del polo e hizo lo que es hoy Lacasitos.

Cuando construyó ese proyecto decidió quedarse con dos casas en primera línea, unirlas y así tener residencia de verano. Yo por entonces vivía en Madrid, trabajaba de modelo, empecé muy joven, a los 14 años, luego vinieron muchas campañas, entre ellas Don Algodón.

An international model, the face of one of the most legendary fashion brands of the 80’s and 90’s, Valeria de Montenegro is opening the doors of her home to welcome Sotogrande Magazine. We talked to her about fashion, cooking, painting, and social networks in a relaxed talk in which the model declares herself to be a real lover of the resort, where she has lived permanently for years.

Valeria de Montenegro, a friend of the frm and exemplary Sotogrande local, many thanks for welcoming us. It is a pleasure to have you among the pages of Sotogrande Magazine. We wanted to begin this interview by looking back. What are your memories of arriving in Sotogrande?

I began coming to Sotogrande for summer holidays. For a long time, my father, who is Italian, took us to Sardinia but then he fell in love with a Spanish woman who wanted to spend summers in Spain. At that time, the best place for spending summer with family -and it remains so- was Sotogrande.

The frst time we came was in 1983. My father rented a home on Paseo del Parque. For four or fve years we came every summer. My father rented different homes until -as he was a builder- he purchased a plot on the former polo land and created what is now Lacasitos.

When he built that project he decided to keep two houses on the beachfront, combine them, and thus have a summer home. Back then I was living in Madrid, working as a model, I started very young, at the age of 14, then there were lots of campaigns, including Don Algodón.

Tu nombre y tu rostro se asociaron desde ese momento a esa mítica marca de moda. Se puede decir que el gran boom de Don Algodón vino contigo.

Claro, Don Algodón era en su momento la única tienda de ropa para las chicas jóvenes. Lo era todo, la moda de la España de los 80 era Don Algodón. Hice muchas campañas con ellos en Santo Domingo, en Canarias, en Madrid.

Luego, me vine a Sotogrande. Resulta que este lugar me ha traído un montón de cosas. Primero aquí conocí a mi primer marido, a los 16 años me enamoré en Sotogrande. Luego me casé en Madrid, pero me vine a vivir aquí justamente porque a mi marido le habían ofrecido un trabajo. De ahí nacieron mis niños y me quedé, cambié mi vida de modelo por una vida completamente opuesta.

Sotogrande entonces, en los 90, era muy diferente a ahora. Solo había unas pocas familias de Madrid, que veraneaban cada año y se conocían de toda la vida. Luego, en invierno, no quedábamos más que quince. Pero me encantó por la calidad de vida que

le ha dado a mis hijos. Me di cuenta de que no tenía nada que ver con la que podría darle en Madrid.

Yo he viajado mucho, he vivido en todo el mundo -en Sudamérica, Italia, Japón, Inglaterra- y la calidad de vida de Sotogrande no la he conocido en ningún otro lugar. Tiene seguridad, naturaleza, un colegio fantástico, no hay apenas tráfco. Sobre todo la seguridad es increíble, yo duermo con la puerta abierta, nunca he tenido un problema en todos estos años. Además, tienes el aeropuerto Gibraltar, el de Málaga. Yo Sotogrande siempre lo apoyo, lo he apoyado siempre y de aquí no me muevo más.

¿Qué fue lo mejor de esa maravillosa etapa de modelo en la que estuviste viajando por todo el mundo?

La recuerdo como una etapa completamente diferente. Yo he vivido muchas vidas en una misma, muchas etapas completamente distintas unas de otras. La etapa de modelo me permitió conocer a muchísima gente internacional, viajar mucho. Era divertido, claro que sí.

From that point on, your face was associated with that legendary fashion brand. It can be said that the great boom of Don Algodón came with you.

Of course, at the time Don Algodón was the only clothes shop for young women. It meant everything, fashion in the Spain of the 80’s was Don Algodón. I did many campaigns with them in Santo Domingo, in the Canaries, in Madrid.

Then, I came to Sotogrande. The fact is that this place has brought me so many things. Firstly, I met by frst husband here, I fell in love in Sotogrande at the age of 16. Then, I got married in Madrid, but I came to live here because my husband had been offered a job. Then my children were born and I stayed, I changed my model life for a completely opposing life.

In the 90’s, Sotogrande was very different to what it is now. There were only a few families from Madrid, who spent summer here each year and had always known one another. Then, in winter, no more than ffteen of us stayed. But I loved it thanks to

the quality of life it has given my children. I realised that it was not at all similar to that which Madrid could offer.

I have travelled a lot, I have lived all over the world -in South America, Italy, Japan, England- and I have not seen the quality of life in Sotogrande anywhere else. It has security, nature, a fantastic school, there is barely any traffc. Above all, the security is incredible, I sleep with the door open, I have never had a problem over all these years. Also, you have the Gibraltar airport, the one in Malaga. I always support Sotogrande, I have always supported it and I won’t move from here.

What was the best part of that wonderful time as a model when you were travelling all over the world?

I remember it as a completely different period. I have lived many lives in a single life, many stages that were completely different to one another. The period as a model enabled me to meat so many international people, to travel a lot. Of course it was fun.

Después tuve una etapa totalmente opuesta, que fue la familiar, con mis hijos. Aquí empecé a pintar, es uno de mis grandes hobbies.

Luego hablaremos de la pintura, pero antes otra de tus grandes pasiones es la cocina. En los últimos tiempos has ido un paso más allá con la publicación del libro ‘Un plato más’. Cuéntanos sobre esa faceta culinaria.

La verdad es que en la cocina, he ido adquiriendo habilidad, cuando tienes cinco hijos no te queda otra, no puedes estar todos los días dándoles espagueti y tortilla.

He de decir que tuve una gran maestra que fue mi abuela. De pequeña viví con ella en Uruguay –mi madre es uruguaya- y siempre la recuerdo cocinando. Todo lo hacía a mano, la pasta la hacía casera, fue una etapa maravillosa de mi vida.

Ahora me encanta cocinar, tanto la cocina como la pintura me dan muchísima

tranquilidad, me relajan. Recuerdo cuando en el confnamiento estábamos aquí con los chicos y me propusieron grabar lo que iba cocinando cada día. Desde ahí empecé a publicar mis recetas, lo tengo como entretenimiento, no soy ninguna chef profesional. He hecho algunos cursos y tengo todos los libros de mi abuela, que la considero la mejor cocinera del mundo, pero ante todo es algo que me divierte, me entretiene, me gusta y tengo a mis seguidores, que no son muchos pero son feles, y siempre me animan y apoyan.

Afterwards, I had a completely opposing period, family based, with my children. I began painting here, it is one of my great hobbies.

We will talk later about painting, but frst, another of your great passions is cuisine. Recently, you have gone a step further with the publication of the book “Un plato más”. Tell us about that culinary facet.

The truth is that I have gradually acquired skill in the kitchen, when you have fve children you don’t have a choice, you can’t feed them spaghetti and omelette every day. I must say that I had a great teacher, my grandmother. As a young girl, I lived with her in Uruguay -my mother is Uruguayanand I always remember her cooking. She did everything by hand, the pasta was homemade, it was a marvellous period in my life.

Now, I love cook, both cooking and painting provide me with great peace of mind, they relax me. I remember during lockdown we were here with the kids and they made me record what I was cooking each day. From there, I began to publish my recipes, it is like entertainment to me, I am not a professional chef at all. I have taken some courses and I have all the books of my grandmother, who I consider to be the world’s best chef, but above all, it is something that is fun, it entertains me, I like it and I have my followers, there aren’t many of them but they are loyal, and they always encourage me and support me.

La pintura también es otra de tus pasiones, cuéntanos.

Pintar me gusta desde pequeña, estuve seis años dando clases y cuando vine a Sotogrande vi que era el lugar idóneo para pintar.

Aquí di clases con un profesor tres años y luego con Pepe Palma en San Roque otros tres. Me encanta pintar, en el año 2000 hice tres exposiciones y tuvieron mucho éxito, el mismo día de la presentación lo vendí todo. Luego me fui a Sudamérica a vivir durante ocho años y cuando volví, me puse a pintar más y, como tengo mi cuenta de Instagram, vendo algunos cuadros por ahí, los envío a toda España.

Desde luego se ve que te manejas bien en las redes sociales. ¿Cómo abordas esta forma de comunicación?

Creo que las redes sociales lo han cambiado todo. Antes tenías que irte a Madrid para trabajar, ahora donde estés, desde tu casa, puedes tú mismo abrir tu propia cuenta de Instagram y hacer lo que te guste, te ve el mundo entero. Las redes sociales han cambiado todo.

Varios de mis hijos son infuencers y a mí misma me mandan muchas veces mensajes para promocionar joyas o temas de cocina. Ahora que mi hijo pequeño se va a la universidad, digamos que mi etapa de hijos pequeños ha terminado. Si me salen trabajos y cosas que me gusten y me diviertan las voy a hacer.

Tu familia, lo vemos en muchas de tus publicaciones, ocupa en tu vida un lugar primordial.

Mi familia lo es todo. Estamos súper unidos. Yo soy como una gallina con sus polluelos. Me encantan los niños, nos hemos criado muy juntos, en Sotogrande, la vida aquí es muy familiar. Ahora mis hijas ya no viven aquí pero por las redes seguimos conectados.

¿Te gustaría que siguieran tus pasos en cierta medida, en lo que se refere al mundo de las marcas, la moda?

Mi hija Luna empezó muy joven, recién abierto Instagram fue una de las primeras infuencers. Con 14 años subió la típica foto del colegio con sus amigas y solo tres años después ya empezó a irle muy bien, a tener miles de seguidores, se mudó a Madrid, viajó por todo el mundo, lo disfrutó. Ahora ya ha cumplido 25, vive en Londres, trabaja en una empresa que nada tiene que ver con las redes. Son etapas.

Painting is another of your passions, tell us about it.

I have liked painting since I was little, I took classes for six years and when I came to Sotogrande I saw that it was the ideal place for painting.

I took classes here with a teacher for three years and then with Pepe Palma in San Roque for another three. I love painting, in 2000 I had three exhibitions and they were very successful, I sold everything on the day of the presentation. Then I moved to South America to live for eight years and when I came back, I began painting more and, as I have my Instagram account, I sell some paintings there, I send them all over Spain.

Of course, it is clear that you operate well on social networks. How do you approach this form of communication?

I believe that social networks have changed everything. Before, you had to go to Madrid

to work, now wherever you are, from your house, you can open your own Instagram account and do what you like, everyone sees you. Social networks have changed everything.

Several of my children are infuencers and I am often sent messages to promote jewellery or cooking things. Now that my youngest child is heading to university, let’s say that my period with young kids has ended. If jobs and things that I like come up and I enjoy them, I am going to do them.

We often see your family in your publications, it has a key role in your life.

My family is everything. We are really united. I am like a chicken with its little chicks. I love children, we grew up very close to one another, in Sotogrande, life is very family oriented here. Now, my children no longer live here but we are still connected on social networks.

Volviendo a la urbanización, ¿Cómo te gusta disfrutar de Sotogrande?

Pues mira, soy de las que vivo aquí todo el año, quizá por eso la época que menos me gusta es el verano, hay mucha gente. Me gustaría irme en verano y alquilar una casa en el norte, pero no lo hago porque vienen mis hijos, para ellos el verano es el momento en que más se divierten.

Creo que Sotogrande es completamente diferente a hace años. Cuando me vine a vivir aquí, todos nos conocíamos, tanto padres como hijos, era una pequeña comunidad. Hoy es lo contrario, no conozco a casi nadie. En ese sentido, creo que lo mejor que le ha pasado a Sotogrande ha sido el confnamiento. Mucha gente ha descubierto este lugar, por eso creo que nunca va a dejar de crecer, siempre va a ir a más.

¿Cómo sería un día perfecto en la urbanización para Valeria de Montenegro?

Para mí todos los días son perfectos, la verdad. Me encanta Sotogrande. Soy muy casera, mi rutina casi siempre es la misma, muy de estar en casa, ir al supermercado, dar una vuelta por el pueblo, cocinar y cuando tengo tiempo pintar. La verdad es que me encanta.

Would you like them to follow in your footsteps to some extent, in terms of the world of brands, fashion?

My daughter Luna began at a very young age, when Instagram frst opened up she was one of the frst infuencers. At the age of 14 she uploaded the typical photo with her friends and just three years later things were already starting to go very well for her, she had thousands of followers, she moved to Madrid, she travelled all over the world, she enjoyed it. Now that she has turned 25, she lives in London, and works at a company that has nothing to do with networks. There are stages.

Returning to the resort, how do you like to enjoy Sotogrande?

Look, I am someone who lives here all year round, perhaps that is why the period I like least is summer, there are lots of people. I would like to go in summer and rent a house in the north, but I don’t do it because my children come, for them, summer is the time when they have most fun.

I believe that Sotogrande is completely different compared to years ago. When I came to live here, we all knew one another, both parents and children, it was a small community. Now it is the opposite, I know almost nobody. In that regard, I think that

the best thing to happen to Sotogrande was lockdown. Many people have discovered this place; therefore I believe that it is never going to stop growing, it will always get better.

What would a perfect day be like in the resort for Valeria de Montenegro?

For me, every day is perfect to be honest. I love Sotogrande. I’m the home-loving sort, my routine is almost always the same, staying at home a lot, going to the supermarket, going for a walk around the town, cooking, and when I have time, painting. Honestly, I love it.

Mucho antes de este cambio vital que el propio devenir de los tiempos ha traído a nuestras vidas, los arquitectos de ARK llevan años abundando en este concepto. En la necesidad de una “arquitectura emocional”, más humana, capaz de adaptarse como un guante a las necesidades de sus habitantes y a las peculiaridades del entorno natural. Es la filosofía que desde sus orígenes guía todos y cada uno de sus proyectos donde el

equilibrio, la personalización y la sostenibilidad forman una base sólida sobre la que se levantan sus selectas villas siguiendo siempre como guía maestra el trazo sabio de la luz.

El TP52 alemán Red Bandit se proclamó campeón absoluto y el Maxi australiano Black Jack logró la victoria como el barco más rápido en completar el recorrido de 241 millas náuticas (446 kilómetros), que este año se redujo excepcionalmente a 215 millas náuticas (398 kilómetros).

Si por algo es reconocida Normandía, además de por situaciones históricas, es por el Monte Saint-Michel. Un punto que todo turista marca en su agenda y donde consigue trasladarse a otro era, como si de una máquina del tiempo se tratara.

Normandia, región poblada en su origen por pueblos celtas, está situada al noroeste de Francia bañada por el canal de la Mancha. En ella se encuentra el Monte Saint-Michel, conocido como la ‘Maravilla del Oeste’, debido a que en la Edad Media fue uno de los destinos más importantes de Europa. Este pueblo está construido en una pequeña isla rocosa y poco a poco se ha ido convirtiendo en uno de los lugares más concurridos de Normandía, además de uno de los primeros de Francia; llegando a ser nombrado como Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO desde 1979.

Normandy, a region originally populated by Celtic peoples, is located in the northwest of France bathed by the English Channel. It is home to Mont Saint-Michel, known as the “Wonder of the Western World” due to the fact that in the Middle Ages it was one of Europe’s most important destinations. This town is built on a small rocky island and it has gradually become one of the busiest places in Normandy, as well as one of the first in France; and was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

“Nosotros nos encargamos directamente de la atención a los equipos y a los vip vinculados a ellos. Trabajamos en coordinación con los promotores del evento”, explica Rubio. Si bien, esta organización lleva trabajándose desde el mismo momento en que fueron elegidos como sede, allá por octubre de 2020.

“Empezamos a trabajar desde el minuto uno, hicimos un plan estratégico que incluía toda la preparación y a día de hoy podemos decir que los resultados han sido lo esperado. Desde hace tiempo estamos recibiendo muchas peticiones para ser socios del campo de golf. Hemos conseguido validar la visión que tenemos; tornándonos más exclusivos y enfocando más en la calidad”.

UNA OFERTA RESIDENCIAL BASADA EN LA EXCELENCIA

Coincidiendo con los preparativos de la Solheim, Finca Cortesin ha desarrollado su nuevo departamento residencial: Finca Cortesín Real State. Una apuesta por el residencial espacioso y de calidad, que combina la tranquilidad de una lujosa

No hay que olvidar que en el terreno del golf, ellos ya fueron los primeros en utilizar agua regenerada para el riego. Ahora esa misma flosofía de ahorro energético y cuidado responsable de los recursos naturales se mantiene en el diseño de toda su área residencial –donde priman elementos como las placas fotovoltaicas o la geotermia- y que no deja de suscitar entusiasmo al rebufo de esta ola de visibilidad que implica la Solheim.

“Creo que nadie debería perderse este torneo –subraya Vicente Rubio- Traer la Solheim al sur de España implica que va a ser la primera vez que ésta se juegue bajo el sol. “We are responsible for looking after the teams and the VIPs linked to them. We work on coordination with the event promoters” explains Rubio. However, this organisation has been working since the moment they were selected as venue, back in 2020.

“We started working from the frst minute, we created a strategic plan which included all the preparation and we can now say that the results have been what we hoped for. We have been receiving a lot of requests to become members of the golf course for some time now. We have managed to validate the vision we have; becoming more exclusive and focusing more on quality”.

Coinciding with the preparations of the Solheim Cup, Finca Cortesin has developed its new residential department: Finca Cortesín Real Estate. A commitment to spacious and quality housing, which

El fotógrafo Cuco de Frutos descubre para La Revista Sotogrande algunos de los secretos de su nuevo Studio & Showroom a las puertas de Sotogrande.

A different perspective, a unique visual concept and an iconic conception of light, perspective, and reflections show a different image of the world through his lens. The photographer Cuco de Frutos revealed some of the secrets of his new Studio & Showroom, just outside Sotogrande, to Sotogrande Magazine.

“El sentido de la fotografía no consiste en capturar un momento o un instante, busca proyectar en una imagen, desde tu interior, todo ese aprendizaje personal, emocional y artístico que has experimentado a lo largo de la vida. Una fotografía es exacta cuando logras transmitir todo ese camino a través del objetivo”.

Con un concepto espectacularmente plástico, conceptual y una visión con muchísima personalidad sobre su idea del arte y la proyección creativa, el fotógrafo Cuco de Frutos descubre algunas de sus obras más impresionantes de los últimos años. Una filosofía única a la hora de interpretar paisajes, lugares y momentos que permiten emocionar como nadie a través de sus extraordinarias fotografías en gran formato y con un singular sello de impresión y exclusividad.

A las puertas de Sotogrande, en el emblemático bulevar de Torreguadiaro, Cuco de Frutos abre su nuevo Studio & Showroom, sin duda, un lugar especial y diferente que va más allá de un simple espacio convencional. With a spectacularly plastic, conceptual concept, and a vision with lots of character about his art ideas and his creative projection, the photographer Cuco de Frutos is revealing some of his most impressive works of recent years. A unique philosophy when it comes to interpreting landscapes, places and moments that make it possible to create emotion like nobody else through his extraordinary large format photographs with a unique hallmark of printing and exclusivity.

Just outside Sotogrande, on the emblematic Torreguadiaro boulevard, Cuco de Frutos is opening his new Studio & Showroom, undoubtedly, a special and diLerent place that goes beyond being a mere conventional space. All of this is the result of years of work in photography and travel around the world; a trip that is now taking a rest and laying down foundations in Valle del Guadiaro.

“After years of living between Spain and the United States, travelling around the world and immerse myself in all the sources of culture and diLerent visions of life; I am at a perfect point to position myself and find a fixed point on the map. My wife [Patri] and I are happy to be here, living in a spectacular mill from the 18th century in San Martín del Tesorillo and even more so to work every day in a studio where I can have breakfast overlooking the sea, just 50 metres from me, it is a luxury” explains the photographer.

Beyond creativity, originality, and the emotional message of his images, if there is something that increases the seductive appeal of the works of Cuco de Frutos is the artisanal creation of his works. Antes de preparar la barbacoa, ¡no te olvides del vino! Estos son los mejores vinos para servir en la parrilla este verano.

Es uno de los placeres del verano: amigos, familia, aire libre y una buena parrilla. Las barbacoas son, por excelencia, uno de los grandes acontecimientos sociales en estas fechas. Disfrutar de una sabrosa comida en un ambiente informal, alegre, distendido. Con su propio ritual a fuego lento, desde los preparativos hasta las largas sobremesas.

Una fiesta consagrada al disfrute, al acto de compartir, a la ligereza y la sencillez de las tardes de verano. Para preparar una buena barbacoa es imprescindible, por supuesto, una buena carne. Pero también un vino apropiado. Aquel que sea capaz de acompañar y realzar esos sabores ahumados tan característicos de estos festines veraniegos.

Antes de elegir cuál es el vino ideal para servir junto a las brasas hay que tener en cuenta qué tipo de carne vamos a preparar. No es lo mismo la contundencia y complejidad de la carne de vacuno que la sencillez del pollo.

Lo importante, como en cualquier armonía, es hacer coincidir la intensidad del vino con la del plato que acompaña. De ese modo, cuanto más magra sea la carne, más ligero deberá ser el vino. Cuanto más grasa tenga, más atrevido y complejo podrá ser el caldo con el que decidamos maridar.

It is one of the pleasures of summer: friends, family, outdoors, and a good barbecue. Barbecues are, par excellence, one of the great social events of this time of year. Enjoying a delicious meal in an informal, joyful, relaxed setting. With its own slow cooked ritual, from the preparations to the long after dinner conversations.

A party devoted to enjoyment, to the act of sharing, to lightness, and to the simplicity of summer evenings. To prepare a good barbecue, it is of course essential to have good meat. But also the right wine. One that is able to accompany and enhance those smoky flavours that are so characteristic of these summer feasts.

Before choosing what the ideal wine is to serve next to the embers, it is necessary to bear in mind which meat we are going to prepare. The force and complexity of beef is diLerent from the simplicity of chicken.

The important thing, as with any pairing, is to make the intensity of the wine coincide with that of the accompanying dish. Thus, the leaner the meat, the lighter the wine needs to be. The more fat it has, the bolder and more complex the wine that we decide to pair it with can be.

Así, si empezamos por la carne estrella de las barbacoas, el vacuno, lo mejor será escoger un vino tinto crianza, con mucho cuerpo. En ese sentido, los de uva tempranillo son una estupenda elección. La razón es que la grasa equilibra el tanino del vino tinto, ambos sabores se combinan y complementan, sin que uno opaque el protagonismo del otro.

En este caso, Arienzo de Marqués de Riscal es un acierto asegurado y está valorado en la Guía Peñín 2023. Este crianza destaca sobre todo por su gran versatilidad. Con la esencia más pura de un Rioja, se trata de un vino para espíritus innovadores, valientes, modernos y comprometidos.

Potenciar el sabor de un buen chuletón de ternera o un entrecot es también una de las virtudes del vino XR de Marqués de Riscal. Con un 95% de uva tempranillo, este vino es un homenaje a todos los maestros bodegueros. Comienza algo cerrado al igual que los buenos vinos bordeleses, pero enseguida surgen recuerdos ahumados, especiados, balsámicos con muy buena intensidad.

Otro tempranillo ideal para las brasas es el Frank Gehry Selection 2012. Resultado de una cuidada selección de uvas procedentes de viñas propias de más de 80 años. Cuando este crianza se atempera, se abre y muestra una interesante cantidad de matices. De trago lento y largo, es sin duda un vino de amistad y de pausa.

Si en lugar de vacuno somos más de carne cerdo o de pollo, el armonía puede ser más flexible. En estos casos se puede optar por vinos tintos jóvenes o incluso por blancos, especialmente apropiados sobre todo para acompañar la carne más ligera del pollo.

Entre los tintos recomendamos, por ejemplo, Finca Torrea. Elaborado con uvas de las variedades tempranillo y graciano, es un vino de corte vanguardista, con un perfil actual y mayor carácter afrutado. Con una crianza más corta, resulta un vino elegante, fresco y fácil de beber.

En cuanto a los blancos, un acierto seguro es el Marqués de Riscal Verdejo, con agradables aromas de verbena y frutas tropicales, con sabores generosos y sensación en boca fresca y vivaz.

Por otro lado, no solo de carne viven las barbacoas. La parrilla es una técnica igualmente suculenta para preparar cualquier tipo de pescado –ahí están los famosísimos espetos malagueños, sardinas que han conseguido a la brasa su mejor versión- y, supuesto, verduras. Cualquier tipo de verdura gana en atractivo y sabor servida en una buena parrillada.

Para estos casos, la elección bien pensada del vino también es clave para convertir la barbacoa en una experiencia gastronómica perfecta. Si hablamos de pescados y verduras, sabemos que lo mejor es acudir a los blancos o a los rosados.

Su origen en España no está claro del todo. Varios puntos de la geografía mediterránea, desde la Costa Brava a la Costa del Sol, se atribuyen la patente de estos oasis de relajo veraniego. Lo que sí parece claro es que ya por el siglo XIX las familias descubrieron las bondades de encontrar un buen sitio donde comer y beber frente al mar. Al principio, sencillas construcciones de madera donde refrescarse y comer algo de pescado fresco. Lo llamaron chiringuito, un nombre cuyo origen también es más que peculiar.

Se cree que la palabra tiene sus raíces en Latinoamérica, en otro término extremadamente parecido: “chinguirito”. Se usaba en México y Cuba para nombrar un tipo de aguardiente elaborado en la Nueva España durante la época de las colonias. En algún momento de la Historia, un más que probable lapsus lingüístico cambió para siempre el futuro de esta palabra convirtiéndola en lo que es hoy. Según el diccionario, el chiringuito es un quiosco o puesto de comida y bebida al aire libre. Sin embargo hace tiempo que los chiringuitos son mucho más que eso.

La clásica estampa del verano –esos viejos merenderos donde buscar la sombra, beber cerveza y comer pescaíto- se reinventa. Muchos de estos establecimientos a pie de playa se han reconvertido en nuevos templos del lujo, el exotismo y el placer.

What does seem clear is that back in the 19th century, families discovered the virtues of finding a good place to eat and drink by the sea. At the beginning, they were simple wood constructions for sitting down and eating some fresh fish. They called it a “chiringuito”, a name whose origins are also very peculiar.

It is believed that the word has its roots in Latin America, in another extremely similar term: “chinguirito”. It was used in Mexico and Cuba to name a type of liquor produced in New Spain during the era of the colonies. At some point in history, a highly likely linguistic lapse changed the future of this word forever making it what it is today. According to the dictionary, a chiringuito is an outdoor kiosk or food and drink stand. However, for a long time, beach bars have been much more than that.

The classic image of summer -those old picnic areas for seeking shade, drinking beer and eating fish- has been reinvented. Many of these establishments by the beach have been transformed into new temples of luxury, exoticism and pleasure.

La primera piedra de este edificio se puso en octubre de 2021, momento que marcaría el antes y después de La Organic ya qué se convertiría en la pionera en el sector del oleoturismo. Un proyecto arquitectónico de vanguardia, cargado de simbología y único en el mundo, donde la persona que lo visite podrá enriquecerse de la historia del aceite de oliva, de su proceso y de su sabor de alta calidad. Este museo en medio de la almazara quiere rendir homenaje al aceite, a Ronda, a su tierra, a Andalucía y a sus costumbres.

El edificio tiene forma de cubo de 30 por 30 por 25 metros, con unos 26000 metros cuadrados, incrustados en el terreno para que se mimetice completamente con el entorno. De él emerge un enorme cuerno en alusión a un toro que hace referencia al nombre del museo, así como una aceituna de 12 toneladas en uno de sus muros y un ojo gigante, guiño que hace referencia a famoso pintor malagueño Pablo Picasso. El museo de LA Organic encaja en perfecta sinfonía con la naturaleza, como si se hubiese pintado en un lienzo perfecto, un regalo para los sentidos.

El museo consigue que Ronda sea una parada obligatoria en el turismo de Andalucía. En el que se prevé atraer 200.000 visitantes anuales. Se pone el foco en el turismo de calidad, para que las personas que se acerquen pernocten en el lugar y demanden otros servicios de la zona.

La experiencia te sumergirá en cada paso. Una vez que estes dentro en este imponente lugar podrás acceder a través de un “estoque”- un túnel que

proyecta los sonidos de las aceitunas al caer del olivo- al interior. En el sótano podrás ver paso a paso el proceso de transformación de la de la aceituna en AOVE a través de paneles de cristal, así como un museo con exposiciones relacionadas con el mundo del arte tomar un café, degustar sus productos ecológicos o comprar algún recuerdo en la tienda. Además, el techo está compuesto de una lona interior hecha con textil reciclado del diseñador Starck e inspirado en un cuadro de Goya.

Está Almazara será un referente mundial de diseño, cultura y turismo que potenciará la imagen de Ronda en el mundo.

Este proyecto pretende beneficiar a todo el municipio de Ronda y a la comarca creando trabajo y convirtiéndose en una empresa que sea fuente de empleo. La constructora de la obra es local, ha generado 160 puestos de trabajo directo y 825 indirectos y, una vez puesta en marcha, 50 directos y 250 indirectos.

Este museo supone la culminación de un proyecto que comenzó en 2004 con la creación de la marca LA Organic, un aceite de oliva de alta calidad procedente de agricultura ecológica, y continuó en 2018 con LA Organic Experience, una idea que tiene menos de una década y quiere trasformar la forma de visitar una almazara. LA Organic Experience quiere adaptar el concepto clásico de los viñedos y bodegas riojanas para llevarlo al sector del aceite ecológico de primera calidad. Una idea bajo el diseño de Philippe Starck que tomó forma en una finca de 26 hectáreas en plena serranía rondeña con unas vistas mágicas hacia la Sierra de Grazalema.

Una de las particularidades de LA Organic Experience es su exclusivo hotel boutique llamado el Cortijo LA Organic. Un enorme caserío que cuenta con cinco habitaciones de lujo en el interior. Un cortijo rondeño que data del siglo XIX completamente rehabilitado y adaptado a las necesidades de los clientes. Un lugar muy especial para incrementa las posibilidades de disfrutar de esta finca.

Talor Gooch (Rangegoats GC) se llevó la victoria del LIV Golf Andalucía con 12 bajo par para 67, tras una cerrada ronda con Bryson DeChambeau (Crushers GC) -que terminó 11 bajo par, y Brooks Koepka (Smash GC) -con 9 bajo par- en un emocionante domingo en el Real Club Valderrama.

Con esta victoria Gooch se convierte en el primer jugador en ganar tres campeonatos de LIV Golf, tras obtener las victorias de Adelaide y Singapur a principios de año. Sobre este logro, Gooch dijo: “Es muy especial. El año pasado no obtuve ninguna victoria y este año me concentré mucho en obtener una victoria individual. En realidad no piensas mucho más allá de la primera [victoria] hasta que obtienes la primera… Definitivamente pensé que obtendría tres victorias esta temporada, pero es genial que estemos aquí, y es especialmente genial obtener la tercera aquí, en Valderrama”.

En el apartado musical, el artista sevillano puso el gran acento del espectáculo con su concierto en directo al término de la segunda jornada de competición. Sin duda, una prueba que seguro se repetirá con mayor auge todavía en las próximas vistas de LIV Golf a Real Club Valderrama.

XXIV Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol: Una cuestion de sangre

La tan controvertida como fascinante y muy cinematográfica figura del asesino en serie será el motor temático de la vigésimo cuarta edición de uno de los festivales de cine más veteranos de Andalucía. Alrededor de su consabida Sección Oficial a concurso y sus proyecciones paralelas con películas de todas las épocas y para todas las edades y públicos, numerosas personalidades del mundo de la cultura y el fantástico desfilarán por la Costa del Sol del 3 al 9 de septiembre en un certamen que incluirá, como es de costumbre, actividades como exposiciones, coloquios, presentaciones de libros y cómics e incluso jornadas gastronómicas.

Un año más y como siempre liderada por el incombustible Julio Peces y la Asociación Cultural Unicornio, la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol despliega su ecléctico abanico de proyecciones y actividades manteniendo su sede matriz en Estepona pero extendiendo sus sedes a San Pedro de Alcántara (Marbella), Benahavís e incluso Málaga capital, donde tendrá lugar la presentación del cómic Bokerones fritos de los famosos humoristas gráficos Idígoras y Pachi, galardonados en el Festival con el Premio Azpiri 2023 al mejor (es) dibujante (s). Pero antes de entrar en su jugosa programación cinematográfica, ya no sorprende en cada nueva edición la nómina de homenajeados por el festival, una lista de premios que incluye el Unicornio de honor 2023 para Mick Garris, veterano realizador estadounidense siempre ligado al cine fantástico y de terror de serie B (cuando ese término significaba algo) gracias a películas como Critters 2 (1988), que será proyectada en Puerto Banús con la presencia del propio director para goce del fan del terror ochentero; Psicosis IV: El comienzo (1990) o Sonámbulos (1992), empezando aquí una bonita sinergia con el material literario de Stephen King que se vio continuada con la estupenda miniserie Apocalipsis (1994) o la nada despreciable adaptación TV-Movie de El resplandor (1997). El Premio Especial del Jurado 2023 recae este año en el joven actor madrileño Javier Bódalo, quien a pesar de sus 33 años ya cuenta con una dilatada experiencia dentro del cine fantástico patrio gracias a sus participaciones en El espinazo del diablo (2001); Promoción fantasma (2012); La noche del virgen (2016) o Tiempo después (2018), además de contar con un importante papel en la serie dirigida por Álex de la Iglesia para HBO 30 monedas, por lo que el reconocimiento, aunque prematuro, está más que justificado. The highly controversial and fascinating, and very cinematographic figure of the serial killer will be the thematic driving force behind the twentyfourth edition of one of the oldest film festivals in Andalusia. Around the familiar Official Section in competition and the parallel screenings with films from all eras and for all ages and audiences, several figures from the world of culture and fantasy will appear in the Costal del Sol from 3 to 9 September at an event that will include, as is custom, activities such as exhibitions, talks, book and comic presentations and even gastronomic days.

Once again this year, and as always, led by the tireless Julio Peces and the Unicornio Cultural Association, the International Fantasy Film Week of Costa del Sol is displaying its eclectic range of screenings and activities while maintaining its main venue in Estepona but extending its venues to San Pedro de Alcántara (Marbella), Benahavís and even Malaga, where the presentation will take place of the comic Bokerones fritos by the famous comic artists Idígoras and Pachi, winner of the 2023 Azpiri Award at the Festival for the best artist(s). El apartado de proyecciones cinematográficas se divide, como viene siendo habitual, en una Sección Oficial a concurso y una serie de proyecciones retrospectivas, divididas en una programación basada en el eje temático del festival (asesinos en serie), en la que se proyectarán films como Psicosis (1960); El silencio de los corderos (1991), Se7en (1995) o La isla mínima (2014); la selección Arvi, clásicos del cine patrocinada por dicha distribuidora, esta vez dedicada a films del año 1973, en la que se podrán ver clásicos como El exorcista, 007: Vive y deja morir, Operación dragón o Cuando el destino nos alcance y la ya habitual sección Fantástico en familia, con títulos como La princesa prometida (1987), Los Goonies (1985) o Jumanji (1995). Uno de los platos fuertes del festival es la publicación del libro, siguiendo con la colección del festival, La marca del asesino, en la que autores como el psiquiatra José Ignacio del Pino, el productor y director de series de televisión Javier Quintas, el crítico y productor del festival Fimucité de Tenerife y de la CutreCon de Madrid Pedro J. Mérida, el director de documentales Juan Mata o este periodista y humilde servidor de ustedes indagarán en la figura del asesino en serie desde sus respectivos terrenos de especialidad, ahondando especialmente, como no podía ser de otra manera, en la trayectoria de estos monstruos de carne y hueso en la historia del audiovisual, desde el cine mudo hasta nuestros días pasando por los productos televisivos. Como complemento a esta obra y siguiendo con el eje temático, del 4 al 15 de septiembre en la sala de exposiciones del centro cultural y juvenil San Pedro de Alcántara y del 20 de septiembre al 6 de octubre en la Biblioteca Municipal de Estepona se podrá disfrutar de forma totalmente gratuita (santo y seña de la Semana) de la exposición Letras vs. Fotogramas, una colección de portadas y carteles de las más célebres historias de asesinos seriales en la ficción literaria y cinematográfica.

El jurado del certamen estará compuesto este año por el propio Javier Quintas, el mítico Ramón Langa, de sobras conocido por haber sido durante décadas la voz en castellano de Bruce Willis o Kevin Costner pero con una dilatadísima trayectoria también como actor de cine y televisión y la actriz española de ascendencia japonesa Almar G. Sato, vista en series patrias como Proteger y servir o La caza. Guadiana y en películas de proyección internacional como la reciente y muy gamberra Mad Heidi. La gala de clausura del festival se celebrará el 9 de Septiembre de 2023 en el Auditorio Felipe VI de Estepona y estará presentada por la actriz y presentadora Lara Dibildos, y en ella se entregarán todos los Premios Unicornio a las películas a concurso, así como los premios especiales y honoríficos. También servirá este festival como sentido homenaje y recuerdo al tristemente fallecido Carlos Pacheco, el dibujante de cómics más importante e internacional de la historia de nuestro país, sanroqueño y colaborador y amigo de la Semana desde hace más de una década.

As you would traditionally expect at the festival, Japanese cinema will be present with Happy Ending, a short fantasy drama directed by Akira Iwamatsu.

One of the cornerstones of the festival is the publication of the book, continuing with the festival collection, La marca del asesino (The Mark of the Killer) , in which authors such as the psychiatrist José Ignacio del Pino, the producer and director of television series Javier Quintas, the critic and producer of Tenerife’s Fimucité festival and of the CutreCun in Madrid, Pedro J. Mérida, the director of documentaries Juan Mata and yours truly, this journalist and humble servant, will delve into the role of the serial killer from their respective specialities, especially investigating, as you would expect, the trajectory of these flesh and bone monsters in the history of film, from silent film to the present, along with television productions. Desde el inicio de la urbanización, con el aterrizaje de los primeros miembros de la comunidad, destacó un aspecto primordialmente: las familias sabían divertirse y era raro el día que no disfrutaban de alguna velada para el recuerdo organizada en la villa de alguno de sus miembros. From the outset of the resort, with the arrival of the first members of the community, one aspect mainly stood out: families knew how to have fun and there were few days when they weren’t enjoying a memorable evening organised at the villa of one of their members. Summer was the most explosive point on the calendar.

The endless days of games and bathing at El Cucurucho (now Trocadero Sotogrande), gymkhanas and Olympiads each summer, sandcastles, football matches, polo on the beach pitch as evening fell and enjoying the sun and friends; mean that each Sotogrande resident has unforgettable memories in their mind of what was their “perfect summer in the resort.”

Clay pigeon shooting, golf, excursions, bike races along Paseo del Parque, the taste of an ice cream, the first swim, putting up the beach volleyball net and some unavowable pranks make all those moments experienced and staged by generation after generation under the radiant and warm summer sun, the history of this report.

Citas privadas para el resto del mundo, pero a las que asistían todos los sotograndinos para seguir acumulando recuerdos de unos años mágicos. Los más jóvenes, por su parte, también lo pasaban en grande en la por entonces conocida discoteca Óscar (situada donde hoy se alza el centro comercial Mar y Sol) donde las noches de verano se tornaban interminables. Los más pequeños, asimismo, ocupaban un papel destacado en la parte lúdica de la finca. Las familias cuidaban al máximo a sus niños, dándoles los veranos más maravillosos de sus vidas con todo tipo de propuestas en las que, además de

pasarlo en grande, forjaban un cariño hacia esta tierra imborrable. Capeas, concursos de equitación, gymkanas, maratones , cualquier idea resultaba idónea para hacer que los más menudos fueran felices.

Jugar en la playa, hacer un castillo, montar una carrera o partidillo o deleitarse con un exquisito cóctel mientras se disfruta de un partido de polo al caer la tarde con la playa al fondo son elementos que no sucumben al tiempo y década tras década, siguen formando parte del misterio la magia de Sotogrande.
