Start by doing this to identify the amount of garden space that can be levelled to site your new greenhouse. Don’t be too concerned about a southerly aspect because many small and medium sized greenhouses are virtually square and will catch enough sun if only one side faces south. Do avoid overhanging trees and try to achieve some shelter from the prevailing wind. Also consider if you will need to run services such as water and electricity to your greenhouse and decide how best to achieve this.

After surveying your garden you should have a good idea of the size of greenhouse that can be accommodated. Our advice is to buy the largest greenhouse size that space and budget will permit.You’ll be amazed at how quickly you will fill it with seedlings and plants! When you're choosing a small greenhouse it's vital that you have efficient staging to gain the maximum from your space.The best staging for this greenhouse is the three tier, 1' wide Caverswall.This is a nice working height (3') and the wooden slatted tops are removable so you can grow tomatoes through the frames in the summer. This Sandon model has a good eaves height of 5'4" with the metal base.This gives you plenty of height for working in and for your plants. Remember to add downpipes to collect that precious rainwater.

You'll see from the table above that we are offering superb prices on the toughened glass upgrade on this model.You should really consider the upgrade because TG is up to 6 times stronger than horticultural glass, and if it does break, it breaks in a much safer way - disintegrating into thousands of small pellets like a car window. Not only that, but we also supply all TG upgrades on this model in 'large panes' this means that you don't get the unsightly dirt and algae that you get with overlapping small pane horti glass. Many retailers only offer this model with small pane TG or charge a premium for large pane, but as we source the TG direct from the factory (cutting out the middleman) we can offer large pane toughened at these superb prices. JAMES SAYS... When we first decided to design a new greenhouse in this category, we had a simple brief - to make a good quality greenhouse at an affordable price. In order to improve on existing models, we improved the reliability of the door wheels (inserting a turned brass core), we strengthened the corner bars by designing in a double box section, next we improved the roof vent design (also adding stops- to keep it in position), then we improved the door bottom guides so that they are more durable. Lastly, wanting to avoid rusting W-shaped wire clips, we opted for a stainless steel band clip which will last far longer. The end result is a super greenhouse, designed and manufactured by us, so you can also save money by buying direct.

When we started to design this new Sherwood model, we wanted to fill a gap in the market for a better quality curved greenhouse - rather than competing directly with already successful Halls Supreme.To do this, we thought it absolutely essential to have a gutter on the greenhouse. Gutters are vital for collecting rainwater which is better for plants than tap water (and free!),The gutter also adds to the strength of the structure. next we wanted more height, so we based the height on our higher eaves models (about 1' higher). Added to that, we decided to add a hanging basket rail - a useful feature for starting-off baskets. plus, we also used the better quality stainless steel clips and increased the thickness of the acrylic glazing (just for the curves) by 33% to 2mm.

The frame has up to twice the metal in some sections making it extremely strong, and the PVC bar capping (which retains the glass) is screwed in - making it all but impossible for the glass to blow out in strong winds. JENNY SAYS... When my Dad made cedar greenhouses before and after the war, he often used the same tried and tested design of sloping sides. The Alton Victorian is how greenhouses used to be.The Victorians were not daft; they worked out that the 45 degree roof pitch was the optimum for maximising light transmission particularly at the height of the day, so there is actually a technical advantage to the traditional and elegant roof pitch. Not only that, but the extra height created gives you a more stable atmosphere in the greenhouse which results in less temperature fluctuations in the season and less 'shocks' to plants. We thought carefully about the design, and decided that high eaves and a tall door were important and that a single door would be better than a double door- why? Well with a single door you have a generous 30" each side of the door way which dictates the width of your staging inside the greenhouse. This means that you have a genuine increase in capacity over a 6' wide greenhouse and could even have more benching than an 8' wide model with double doors!

The dwarf wall helps to store heat in the greenhouse so keeps the temperature more even, it also looks good in the garden and hides any mess in the greenhouse. However, bear in mind that if you wanted to have crops right on the floor then light may be reduced. Installation is included, but you need to get your builder to prepare the base ready please only build this when you have the official brick base plan for this model, which we will send out with your order confirmation.

You should really consider the upgrade because TG is up to 6 times stronger than horticultural glass, and if it does break, it breaks in a much safer way - disintegrating into thousands of small pellets like a car window. Not only that, but we also supply all TG upgrades on this model in 'large panes' this means that you don't get the unsightly dirt and algae that you get with overlapping small pane horti glass. Many retailers only offer this model with small pane TG or charge a premium for large pane, but as we source the TG direct from the factory (cutting out the middleman), we can offer large pane toughened at these superb prices. (All TG on this model is float quality to BS6206 grade A).

Very very impressed! We picked the biggest greenhouse that would fit into the available space and then worried that perhaps we had chosen a 'cheap' option!! How delighted we were when it turned out to be of strong construction and quite easy to build ( by my husband, with no help). It did take a bit longer than expected to complete but the unexpected quality made up for that! We were short of a few bolts that came by return of post next day!!! Overall we got a 8x8 greenhouse with all the staging and with automatic window openers for less than a 6x8 of inferior quality on sale at our local DIY. I really do not know how the greenhouse people do it!! I won't hesitate to order from them again.

JAMES SAYS... When we first saw these Swallow greenhouses a couple of years ago, we knew that they would be popular with our customers. Now that we have delivered and assembled plenty we get a steady stream of positive comments back from customers. These Swallows are how greenhouses used to be: plenty of wood to make a solid frame and a traditional design with low-level cladding. Combine this with modern enhancements such as toughened safety glass throughout and the 20mm 'damp barrier' at the base which guards against the lower timbers sitting in water. I purchased the 8x10' model from The Greenhouse People whilst visiting their stand at last year's Gardeners World Show.This is my first greenhouse so I’ve never assembled one before.The assembly instructions were detailed and easy to follow, which enabled me to erect the frame on my own, only needing assistance from the wife to assist holding the glass in place when inserting the glazing beading strips. These strips are an excellent way of securing the glass in place.The large glass panes do away with the usual overlapping panes that could attract green mould.The high eaves provide a great deal more room inside. I ordered three vents with automatic openers, two louvres and two hanging basket rails. The gutters are a useful feature and are built into the frames as standard. I’m very impressed with this greenhouse and decided afterwards to order the Hercules wooden staging which is also excellent. Before assembling I checked all the parts (as advised in the instructions leaflet) and noticed a couple of the glass panels had been sent the wrong size. I rang The Greenhouse People who apologised and quickly sent out the correct glass. Excellent service all round.This is an excellent greenhouse which really looks the business. A big thank you to The Greenhouse People.

RICHARD SAYS... The Janssens Victorian range is made to a high specification. Most glazing bars are 'box section' which makes them neater and stronger that standard extrusions.The eaves are very high (6'7") this gives lots of flexibility with doors which can be situated on the end or the sides and (although 1 x single sliding door is standard) can be upgraded to double sliding, hinged or double hinged. All the large pane toughened glass is held in with a black rubber capping system which is extremely strong in the wind. If you are looking for a quality greenhouse, with plenty of height, perhaps to sit in as well as to use as a greenhouse then the Janssens Victorian may well be your greenhouse. ROGER SAYS... All you have to do to get ready is to build a brick base (built to our official plan only please!) and Robinsons will come and assemble the greenhouse for you - all in the price. Choose your colour white, Ivory or green and add some staging & shelving and you are ready to receive your new Victorian greenhouse - the extra height in these models (because of the steep pitch to the roof) creates a nice atmosphere for plants as well as increasing the light transmission. The attention to detail in this model is what really finishes it off - cast aluminium spandrels add the Victorian touch inside plus small details such as nut caps and extra strong Bayliss MK7 triple spring autovents on the side vents make all the difference in elevating this greenhouse to class all of its own.

Now this new Janssens Junior Orangerie model has made this style of greenhouse far more accessible. The Naseby is a serious greenhouse.With room for a 3' wide bed or staging each side of the generous double doors (with no step) you can really do some serious growing.The eaves height of 5'5" is also generous and allows plenty of height for tomatoes or Chrysanthemums or other height loving plants. All the roof vents are automatic and a good number of louvres are also included.These are best positioned about 18" off the ground where the hot air rising out of the roof vents will actually suck fresh air in through the louvres.You can extend the Naseby literally up to any length you wish with the 8' extensions plus add a partition (complete with double doors) which enables you to keep a smaller section separate for propagation (usually at the back of the greenhouse).
