Bountiful Gourmet...Burger Boys BURGER BOYS SCORES WITH DELICIOUS BURGERS North Shore burger lovers can rejoice. There’s finally a burger bar that can rival the best on the Island. Everyone knows how I love burgers. Burger King once said I should be the patron saint of the industry. So when I get a call from man about town and bon vivant Eppy, a man who knows his burgers also, I listen. I join Eppy for a lunch time feast at Burger Boys in Glen Cove. It is well worth the visit. Using top ingredients, owner Tony Lagos, who has owned a variety of restaurants in Long Island and Queens, has hit a home run. The 8 oz burgers are delicious and there’s an impressive list to choose from. We opt for the Cyclops, a beauty topped with bacon, fried onions and a fried egg, along with lettuce and tomato. It doesn’t fit in our mouth, but nothing we can’t handle. A winner. Other selections include the Pepperoni Pizza Burger, a beef burger topped with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce, The Greek, a lamb burger with feta cheese, tomato, cucumber and

by Rich Branciforte tzatziki sauce, and the Juicy Lucy, a classic beef burger stuffed with gouda, cheddar and American cheeses. Burger Boys offer many other menu items that are sure to delight. They have a excellent selection of salads including Greek, Cobb, Wedge, Caesar and House. The appetizers include mini rice balls, chicken quesadilla, Greek meatballs, coconut shrimp and more. The sides are really good. The burgers come with a mountain of fries, and the onion rings are large and a delight. Several times a week Tony has specials on the menu. On Thursdays and Saturdays he features an 18 oz Porterhouse, on Wednesday and Friday fish specials, and on other days Eggplant Parmigiana and meatloaf stuffed with Gouda cheese. Burger Boys also has an impressive list of draft beer, wines, and cocktails. Don’t take the word of two burger mavens like Eppy and myself. Check it out. Burger Boys Bar and Grill is located at 70 Landing Road, Glen Cove. They also do takeout. They can be reached at 516-723-9710.

When Major League Baseball released the 2021 schedule, showing the second round of the Subway Series would take place at Citi Field during the weekend when the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks took place, the Mets knew they had to deliver a ceremony which struck the right tone. While the team struggled on the field to the consternation of their fans this past season, they came through with flying colors as far as 9/11 was concerned. Yes, there were color guards, gigantic flags unfurled, and a plethora of elected officials, but it was the little things which made the night so memorable. Before the game began, many members of the 2001 Mets stood interspersed with New York City first responders along the right and left field lines. During the playing of our national anthem, Mets and Yankees players, who both wore “New York” on their uniforms, also interspersed along the first and third base lines. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and his Mets counterpart, Brandon Nimmo, played against each other in amateur ball as teens, and you could see they were happy to have a few un-

planned moments to get reacquainted. I spoke to some of the 2001 Mets who were at Citi Field. Glendon Rusch said he enjoys the high praise he gets nowadays from broadcasters and sportswriters because his games rarely went more than two hours when he pitched. Rusch’s fellow starter, Steve Trachsel, was at the other end of the time spectrum as he worked so deliberately he was referred to as the “human rain delay.” Trachsel would be considered Mr. Speedy these days. “All games seem to go four hours these days. I can’t stand it!” he said. 2001 Mets reserve infielder and pinch hitter de luxe Lenny Harris decried the lack of attention paid to moving base runners through productive outs these days, while outfielder Jay Payton complained about new stats which are meaningless. “The obsession with launch angles is hurting young batters learning how to hit the ball squarely. Does anyone really care about exit velocity of a foul ball?” The Mets’ cable home, SNY, did a great job with their documentary, “9/11: The Mets Remember,” as it nicely mixes in footage of that fateful day with the recollections of a number of players. Todd Zeile, who is now an SNY studio host on Mets pre and postgame shows, recalled the smell stench from lower Manhattan as the Mets bus was going over the George Washington Bridge which is roughly ten miles away from Ground Zero. Hall of Famer Mike Piazza graciously said, “If people just remember me for my home run against the Braves in the September 21st game against the Braves, then that’s fine with me.” The documentary also gives airtime to a pair of often overlooked Mets, Joe McEwing and Vance Wilson. My only criticism of “9/11: The Mets Remember” is letting Braves reliever Steve Karsay only talk about the pitch he threw to Mike Piazza. Karsay grew up in north-

ern Queens and it would have been interesting to get his recollections of what surely must have been mixed emotions. Jimmy Kimmel, the host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” grew up a Mets fan in Brooklyn and his family’s move to Las Vegas when he was in elementary school did not alter his fandom. Kimmel was 18 when the Mets won the 1986 World Series and it remains his favorite sports memory as it is for so many When Major League Baseball released the 2021 schedule, showing the second round of the Subway Series would take place at Citi Field during the weekend when the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks took place, the Mets knew they had to deliver a ceremony which struck the right tone. Kimmel’s labor of love, “Once Upon a Time in Queens,” debuted last month on ESPN, and is well worth catching on either demand on cable or on its streaming service, ESPN+. A big plus about “Once Upon a Time in Queens” is there is a lot of previously unseen footage. I had always heard about Bob Costas and his NBC Sports crew standing in the Boston Red Sox clubhouse in the tenth inning of Game 6 awaitMichael Kay ing their World Series celebration only to have to scurry when the Mets made their miraculous comeback. For the first time, we get to witness it. Costas, who has a new Photograph © E.H. Wallop monthly show on HBO, “Back on the Record with Bob Costas,” has long been regarded as one of television’s best interviewers, has written the forward to Michael Kay’s “CenterStage” (Scribner). Kay, best known for being the YES Network’s play-by-play voice for the Yankees, has proven to be a pretty good interviewer himself. “CenterStage” is a collection of the transcripts of Kay’s studio show where he gets to interview celebrities from all walks of life. tions of shows which featured guests like Paul Simon, Jon Bon Jovi, Lorne Michaels, Adam Sandler, Jay-Z, ARod, and so many others. At the annual CBS NFL media day ,CBS Sports CEO Sean McManus admitted he tries to “thread the needle” when it comes to gambling. He said CBS Sports will accept ads from Draft Kings, FanDuel, Points Bet, Caesars, and the like, but he doesn’t want his NFL broadcasts to mix in wagering talk because most of the sports-viewing audience are not gamblers. McManus also announced the popular Tuesday night roundup show, “Inside the NFL,” is moving from Showtime to ViacomCBS’s streaming service, Paramount Plus. Ray Lewis, Michael Irvin, and recently retired New England Patriots wide receiver Justin Edelman will be joining Phil Simms, James Brown, and Brandon Marshall on the panel. Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who lost in the men’s semi-finals to Novak Djokovic at the 2021 US Open, is a baseball fan. Before the Open started, he went across the street to Citi Field to watch the Mets take batting practice. Zverev made fast friends with Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor who was in attendance for Zverev’s Opening Day match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

NEW JOE PIKET VIDEO

You would think that Joe Piket would want to take a rest after winning Piano Entertainer of the Year in the LI Press Best of Long Island 2021. A veteran to the Long Island Music scene, Joe keeps pushing the envelope, his latest effort being a new video. Joe and his wife Anna have been close friends with Blaize and George for more than fifteen years. Although they are all musicians, they had never played together until last summer. That soon changed as they jammed together every weekend for a year. Although Joe thinks of himself as a pianist, he soon got a chance to develop his guitar chops. He loved it and his power trio recorded a new song, The Four Chord Song. On a recent visit to their friends, Joe announced that they were going to be shooting a video, spur of the moment. Joe remembers, “ Somehow we got a lot of cool footage and some funny stuff too.” Their friend Rich Chiraz did a stellar job pulling the video together for them. The song and the video feature Joe on guitar and vocals, Blaize on bass and vocals, George on drums and vocals, and Anna on percussion and vocals. Joe says Anna stole the show! You can check out JP And Friends, The Four Chord Song on YouTube or Google JP and Friends Four Chord Song . You can also check out all of Joe’s music and videos on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and more.

The title track on José Feliciano’s latest album Behind This Guitar sums up, with uncanny accuracy, the still-unfolding career of this remarkable and singular figure in American musical culture of the last half-century. Puerto Rican by birth, a New Yorker (Spanish Harlem) from his childhood, José Feliciano has been a fact of American musical life since his breakthrough at the height of the Sixties – the golden age of American pop and rock music. Feliciano’s new album on the Anthem label is more than the latest turn in an uncommonly long and steady performing and recording career. Jose will be at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center October 23rd. For more info: 631-288-1500.

JAZZ & BLUES KIRK WHALUM ASKS, HOW DOES CHRISTMAS SOUND? When we think of Christmas, sometimes it’s the sights that come to mind: the multi-colored lights framing the windows of neighbors’ houses, the line of eager children waiting to sit on Santa’s lap, the Nativity scene on the lawn at the local church. Or maybe it’s the smells that arise first: fresh-baked gingerbread, pine needles, a turkey dinner in the oven. On his new album for Artistry Music/Mack Avenue Music Group, GRAMMY® Award-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum asks How Does Christmas Sound? On his second holiday-themed album, Whalum doesn’t answer that question in the expected way – revisiting the most familiar carols, the ones that have already worn out their welcome most years by the time Thanksgiving rolls around. Instead, he finds a more spiritual, introspective sound for Christmas, one that acknowledges the melancholy that often accompanies the Yuletide and the faith that is so central to his own celebrations. THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF LOUIS ARMSTRONG ALL STARS While New Orleans native Louis Armstrong passed away in 1971 at the age of 69, today his legacy as the kingpin of jazz continues to grow. The most significant example of this is the ensemble The Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong All Stars, comprised largely of top-of-the-line Crescent City musicians paying tribute to him with the brilliant album A Gift to Pops. The inventive re-envisioning of music associated with the trumpeter/vocalist during his five-decade career features new arrangements and new performances of stalwart tunes ranging from the “The Peanut Vendor” (recorded by him in 1930) to “What a Wonderful World” (recorded in 1968 and the most successful tune of his career). Special guests include Wynton Marsalis and Common. The band also features trumpeters Ashlin Parker and Wendell Brunious, tenor saxophonist Roderick Paulin, pianist Courtney Bryan, banjo player Don Vappie, vocalists Niki Haris and Menia Chester, and guitarist Derwin “Big D” Perkins in a special guest cameo on “Black and Blue.” SUE FOLEY’S PINKY’S BLUES Stony Plain Records announced an October 22 release date for Pinky’s Blues, the new album from award-winning blues guitarist/singer Sue Foley. Featuring several Sue Foley originals, as well as songs from some of her favorite blues and roots artists, Pinky’s Blues was recorded at Fire Station Studios in San Marcos, Texas. Joining Sue Foley (guitar, vocals) for the recording sessions were Jon Penner (bass), Chris “Whipper” Layton (drums) and Mike Flanigin (Hammond B3 organ), who also produced the album. The legendary Jimmie Vaughan joins in as a special guest on rhythm guitar for the track, “Hurricane Girl.” To support the release of her new disc, Foley will embark on an extensive tour. Foley also shot videos for three songs from the new album that were directed by Tim Hardiman, who directed the latest Black Keys video.

ON THE ROAD DEAD & COMPANY ADDS TWO RED ROCKS CONCERTS Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, John Mayer, and Bob Weir, with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti – has added two concerts at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado to its 2021 tour. The shows – Tuesday, October 19, and Wednesday, October 20 – went on sale to the general public beginning Friday, September 24 @ Noon MDT through AXS. The Grateful Dead performed over 2,300 concerts during their decades-long career, but one of the band’s favorite venues was Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The band’s maiden run at Red Rocks was July 7-8, 1978, and they went on to play 20 epic shows there from 1978-1987. JORMA KAUKONEN’S MULTIDIMENSIONAL WORLD Jorma Kaukonen and John Hurlbut : The River Flows Volume 2 was introduced on vinyl on Record Store Day this past July, Culture Factory released John Hurlbut and Jorma Kaukonen: The River Flows Volume Two (CFU-01200) in all formats September 24th. At the same time they are releasing a box set The River Flows Vol. 1 & 2 / The Complete Sessions, a CD package with 8 live tracks recorded one special evening at the Quarantine Concerts as a bonus disc. Recorded last summer along with Volume One, this album continues along the same path. “Guitar maestro Kaukonen shares top billing with singer/guitarist John Hurlbut in a down home session of remarkable six-string storytelling” said Sterophile and No Depression revealed “Kaukonen and Hurlbut view music as a conversation… What we hear in this acoustic marvel is an intimate tête-à-tête celebrating 40 years of friendship.” For the Road...Jorma is going out playing with Jack Casady (Hot Tuna), friends, and playing solo over the Fall. Buy your tickets now as venues are providing extra space between tables often reducing their capacities. Mask up and come have some fun! MARTIN SEXTON RELEASES NEW EP Singer-songwriter Martin Sexton released his new EP 2020 Vision, available everywhere through Kitchen Table Records. His first new release in six years, the 4-song collection snapshots moments of clarity during the past year and beyond. Martin Sexton 2020 Vision features lead single “Hold On,” a sun-shining-through-the-rain song brimming with soul guitar fixings, punchy horns, and a touching narrative about the simple pleasures of spending time with loved ones. American Songwriter stated, ‘Hold On’ opens 2020 Vision with the soulful beauty of a moment in time. The EP also includes “Calling On America,” which follows in the grand tradition of tender R&B cultural commentary epitomized by soul poets like Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye. Featuring a guest appearance from longtime friend and supporter John Mayer on guitar, it’s a scene-setting song panning through visual vignettes of love and harmony while also contemplating division. Relix called it “a vivid, varied look at life during the quarantine.” He’ll be in Tarrytown NY in December.

The Numbers of Food Insecure Begin to Decline After 18-months of responding to the increase in need for emergency food assistance brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, loss of jobs and underemployment, Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank and its 329 member agencies are seeing a decline in the number of Long Islanders struggling with food insecurity. Between March of 2020 and 2021, Long Island Cares provided food assistance to an additional 287,481 people struggling to put food on their tables and feed their families. These numbers were in addition to the 259,000 people already known to the Long Island Cares hunger network and represent a 54.8% increase in need throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. During the first year of COVID-19, The Harry Chapin Food Bank delivered 18,957,519 pounds of food to individuals and their member agencies.

BOOKS HEIMALL RECORD ALBUM COVERS New Jersey resident Bob Heimall, who helped craft some of the most iconic album cover images for rock legends like John Lennon, Carly Simon, James Brown, Jim Morrison and many more, has published a new book telling all the stories behind the making of these classic graphics in Cover Stories: Tales of Rock Legends and the Albums That Made Them Famous. The book is available now at Amazon and wherever good books are sold. In Cover Stories: Tales of Rock Legends and the Albums That Made Them Famous, Heimall not only gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at working with the artists, but also tells the stories about how their covers came about, including pictures of the album covers, too. His multi-decade career in album graphics showcases his work during the majority of his career.

RAINBOW IN THE DARK: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY

The long-awaited autobiography from heavy metal music icon Ronnie James Dio, the powerhouse voice of Elf, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his long-time bespoke band DIO, was recently published by Permuted Press in the U.S. co-written with British music journalist Mick Wall and Dio’s widow and long-time manager Wendy Dio, RAINBOW IN THE DARK: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY is now available at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com or wherever books are sold.

HAUNTED LONG ISLAND MYSTERIES

Over the past six-months the regional food bank and many of their member agencies have seen a decrease in the number of people visiting community food pantries, as well as a decrease in the amount of people visiting Long Island Cares’ satellite locations. This reduction in need can be accounted for as people return to work, find new jobs, gain access to increased government assistance to help pay their rent, and receive COVID-19 vaccinations. According to Kristine Lehn, Chief Network Officer for Long Island Cares, “There are several factors that have contributed to the decline. Our 329 community-based agencies have done an outstanding job increasing their fundraising income and have sponsored several incredibly successful virtual fundraising events. Many of them expanded their profiles by collaborating with concerned community stakeholders while others procured additional food through relationships with local markets, groceries and restaurants. Long Island Cares supplemented these accomplishments by providing nearly $500,000 in grants to our member agencies to support their operations during the first twelve months of the pandemic.”

Long Island’s history extends beyond the physical reality surrounding us and into the great unknown of the spiritual realm. Deceased patrons and other visitors from the past linger at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho, one of the oldest continually operating restaurants in America. Victims of the Louis V. Place shipwreck aren’t resting so peacefully at the Lakeview Cemetery in Patchogue. Spirits move furniture, knock on doors and pace throughout the exhibits at the Long Island Maritime Museum. Awardwinning author and historian Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, alongside medium and paranormal investigator Joe Giaquinto, use extensive interviews, research and investigations to unveil a new collection of Long Island’s ghostly past.

POP/ELECTRONIC LOOP ARTIST I AM KAWEHI I AM KAWEHI is a new breed of musician, a pop/electronic loop artist that Elle Magazine called “The Genius OneWoman Band” who uses technology to carry the weight of a full band on her own. After a long absence from tour due to the pandemic, I AM KAWEHI returned to the stage this fall beginning September 19th in Atlanta. Earlier this summer, Kawehi performed three special shows in her native Hawai’i and recorded her own rendition of “Hawai’i ‘78” – made popular by Iz Kamakawiwo’ole – that has a deep personal connection for her. “I was lucky to be sent to Kaiapuni (Hawaiian immersion school) when I was young - it was a new adventure in learning, an immersion into the Hawaiian language where all classes were taught in Hawaiian,” she recalls. “I look at my roots as an immovable mountain - when all is gone, I’ll be found in you, still standing.” With renewed energy and inspiration from her 2021 Hawai’i performances, Kawehi returns to the stage for a two-month headlining tour with new music expected this fall.

HARRIS COLE & SOMNI Harris Cole & Somni Sirens EP is out October 22. Already establishing themselves in the electronic beat scene, the dynamic duo display their production prowess in their new single “Hope!” off the upcoming ‘Sirens EP’ LA based multi-disciplinary beat smiths Harris Cole and Somni join forces in their new collaborative project, ‘Sirens EP’. The 5 track extended play exists as a scrapbook piecing together the complete timeline of their friendship. They say: “We’ve both discovered a lot about ourselves as well as each other, in ways that we wouldn’t if we were not so different, but simultaneously incredibly alike.” From the streams of free-flowing euphonious sounds in “Bessemer”, to bittersweet melodies and a sense of yearning in “Sirens”, this body of work sets us on a gentle see-saw ride with a glimmer of hope. Both artists collaborated on a track earlier this year on the Friends Of Friends ‘Up Too Early Volume 2’ Compilation which was featured on Mixmag Best Albums of The Year 2021.

Pre-orders and pre-saves for the album, which include a free download of the first single, “Believe,” are available worldwide The aptly titled album is so named because, as guitarist Chris Lane says, “The songs are really about different takes on what’s going on around us. Not a specific event, but just reviewing things as we travel through this station of life, viewing things from a different point where you might have interpreted them differently as a younger person, or how you probably will interpret them differently when you’re older.” JULIA WOLFE GIRLS IN PURGATORY The Queens-based singer, songwriter and producer is releasing her debut EP Girls In Purgatory on October 7 and will be headlining her first shows ever at Mercury Lounge in NYC on October 16 (sold out in just three days!) and Elsewhere in Brooklyn on October 17. WOMEN WHO ROCK

Dar Williams

NEW DAR WILLIAMS ALBUM When Dar Williams starts discussing her latest album, I’ll Meet You Here, she’s not yet sure she can identify its through line; a thread that might connect its 10 songs together. But as she delves into the collection, released Oct. 1 on BMG’s recently launched Renew label, she mentions her attempt to turn her yard into a meadow. Unfortunately, the wildflower seeds she scattered on the grass around her home, in New York’s Hudson Valley, didn’t take. Now she just has an unruly lawn. Like everyone else, Williams spent 2020 in that state of non-control. She and longtime producer Stewart Lerman tracked most of the album, her 12th studio recording, in November of 2019. In late February of 2020, she cut the title tune in Woodstock with bassist Gail Ann Dorsey and Larry Campbell, who produced the track and played guitars, pedal steel and twangy baritone guitar.

heroes including Paul Stanley and Eric Singer (KISS), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick) Corey Taylor (Stone Sour/Slipknot), and Shaun Morgan (Seether) as one of the most refreshing new bands touring today, and they have conjured a wildly engaged fan club—The Dead Corps. With X’s painted over their eyes, the band and fans conjure a rebellious return to fun, freedom and true fandom. McQueen on drums, Daisy on bass and Meta on guitar are a power trio with monster tone and raw rock energy. Heads bang as classic metal and grunge riffs are coaxed into pop hooks. Innocent child-like vocals are interrupted by screams and the occasional brutal growl, as finely crafted wordplay forces unexpected stops and odd time signatures into submission. . The band is currently promoting the singles from their full-length due out in October, 2021. The live album called The Dead Shall Dance, was recorded at The Cowan in Nashville.

CC Clarke

The Dead Deads

THE DEAD DEADS Nashville-based rock band The Dead Deads are cherry-picking everything good about grunge, hard rock, indie, classic metal and punk, and creating memorable and fun alternative music for rock fans across generations and genres. They are that “up-and-coming” band that touring artists have known and loved at first sight. They’ve been named by many of their own

CC CLARKE NEW SINGLE London based singer songwriter/ beauty influencer CC Clarke released her new single “Back To You” on September 24th. This new single follows the success CC has had with previous singles “Boys Do Cry,” “A Little More” and “Not Playing” the latter two of which have charting in the UK Top 40 Pop Charts. This last year has not only been busy for Clarke professionally in music and beauty but also personally as she welcomed the birth of her first child in 2020. This new personal milestone was something that influenced CC’s music specifically with the message of her previous single “Boys Do Cry.” Now CC is following up another song about another important person in her life, her husband, with new single “Back To You.”

Ylona Garcia

YLONA GARCIA NEW TRACK 19-year-old Sydney-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Ylona Garcia has released a brilliant slice of power pop breakup balladry entitled “Don’t Go Changing” via 88rising. Produced by industry veterans Jonas Jeberg (Panic! At The Disco, Demi Lovato, The Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez) and Marcus Lomax (Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Miley Cyrus), the Filipino-Australian trailblazer and 88rising newcomer effortlessly uses emotionally telling vocals to grieve through different stages of letting go. Speaking on the single, Ylona says, “Don’t Go Changing’ is a song that embraces truth towards life’s many mysteries, tough love in particular.” To create the song’s video, Ylona Garcia invited her fans onto the mainstage through a collaboration with Samsung to include personal footage of their cultural roots inside her music video. The final music video features photos and videos from across the globe, shot by real fans on their Samsung phones, each representing a slice of each creator’s life beautifully juxtaposed with that of Ylona’s. JILLETTE JOHNSON “DADDY DOPAMINE” Jillette Johnson recently released a new single “Daddy Dopamine” as she embarks on her first national tour in support of her critically acclaimed new album It’s A Beautiful Day And I Love You. The song was co-written and produced by Joe Pisapia, who produced her last album, and marks the first time Jillette has released a collaborative single. The tour with Houndmouth kicks off in Oxford, MS and will make stops in Boston, MA, Washington, DC, and more. Find a full list of tour dates at her website. Earlier this year, Johnson released her first full length album in more than four years It’s A Beautiful Day And I Love Photo by Betsy Phillips You.

RHYTMN TRACKING

With Jimi LaLumia

TONY BENNETT When MTV was still a thing, and the epicenter of youth culture, the last person anyone ever expected to see on the channel was 1950’s/60’s crooner and nightclub mainstay Tony Bennett, yet there he was with a special of his own, and then hanging with Stevie Wonder, and touring as a co star with rock bands. He always kept his hands in the ‘now’, and this proved through more recently when he joined forces with Lady GaGa years ago, at the height of her teen pop stardom; they recently teamed up again for a live show. Now, at the age of 95 years old, Tony Bennett has decided to call it a day and retire, as he has canceled the remaining dates on his most recent tour. Health issues and the fact that he suffers from Alzheimer’s are obvious factors in this decision for this longest lasting ‘pop star’ of all time to ‘call it a day’. In more recent times, the ‘performing life’ of recording artists seem to grow shorter and shorter. One of Tony’s long time friends, (and Rhythm Tracking fave) Diana Ross is one of the few still keeping on as they say, as she prepares to embark on a world wide tour that had been delayed by Covid, and a new studio album to promote at her upcoming shows. BRITNEY SPEARS In pop culture news, nothing has generated more interest in recent times than the “Free Britney” movement, as the one time Queen of Pop fought for her basic human rights against a conservatorship that her father controlled, deciding everything from the color of her cabinets to her right to give birth. The public followed this with more interest than they had for political issues that affected their own lives; such is the power of pop culture. Thus, it is headline news that Britney is now free (for the moment)to make her own decisions and to run her life without overseers. It’s just a matter of time till pop/cult junkies find a new celebrity to obsess over; stay tuned.

COUNTRY RANDY TRAVIS DIGGIN’ UP BONES One of the most influential country artists of all time, Randy Travis, is bringing back his chart-topping hit like it’s never been heard before with “Diggin’ Up Bones (2021 Remaster).” Originally written in 1983 by Paul Overstreet, Nat Stuckey and Al Gore, and released in 1986, this song’s traditional country sound established a standard for the seven-time GRAMMY winner’s storied career. This remastered hit can be found on Travis’ upcoming Storms of Life (35th Anniversary Deluxe Version) out on September 24, with three previously unreleased songs from The Vault. THOMAS RHETT EARNS 18TH CAREER NO. ONE Multi-platinum entertainer and current CMA Award nominee Thomas Rhett has earned his 18th No. One single with “Country Again” as the song summits both the Billboard Country and Mediabase/ Country Aircheck Charts, while previously earning the top spot at Canadian Country Radio for two consecutive weeks. Serving as the defining title track for his latest album and featuring “the kind of songwriting brawn Rhett always possessed” (American Songwriter), the song also marks the superstar’s 12th consecutive No. One hit — the longest current active streak in the format (Mediabase/Country Aircheck Chart). NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE: NASHVILLE’S BIG BASH Country music’s hottest superstars will ring in the new year when CBS presents NEW YEAR’S EVE LIVE: NASHVILLE’S BIG BASH, Friday, Dec. 31 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT, 11:30 PM-1:30 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Originating from downtown Nashville across multiple locations, the star-studded special will be packed with high-energy performances celebrating the excitement and anticipation of a new year. Firstannounced performers include Jason Aldean, Jimmie Allen, Kelsea Ballerini, Gabby Barrett, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Luke Bryan, Dan + Shay, Elle King, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Cole Swindell and Zac Brown Band, with additional artists to be announced at a later date. The five-hour celebration will feature nearly 50 performances from locations across the city, including the mainstage in Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park anchored by headliners Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band and Dan + Shay. TOBY KEITH HAS A PESO IN MY POCKET Singer, songwriter and entertainer Toby Keith will release his first all-new Show Dog Nashville album in more than five years October 15. Peso In My Pocket was co-produced by Kenny Greenberg and Keith, and features the highest Billboard Country Airplay chart debut of his career with the lead single “Old School.” Though Keith has accomplished much since the 2015 release of 35 MPH Town perhaps most notably in writing the Clint Eastwood inspired “Don’t Let The Old Man In” - a new studio album was long overdue. And Peso In My Pocket has more than a little to do with the worldwide pandemic. “My whole musical career, I haven’t been off the road this long,” Keith says, calling 2020 “a reset button I never would have hit.”

COLIN BLUNSTONE’S ONE YEAR 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Originally released in November 1971, One Year is the debut solo album from The Zombies’ frontman Colin Blunstone, recorded over the course of “one year” following the band’s break-up and the posthumous success of their single “Time of the Season.” To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the landmark album, Sundazed Music will release a double LP edition on November 5. The second LP, That Same Year, features Colin singing his own compositions, many accompanied solely by his acoustic guitar, and gives a deeper introspective look into that time in his life. The double LP is now available for pre-order. Coinciding with the anniversary release, Colin will join forces with composer Joe Wong (Russian Doll, The Midnight Gospel, Master of None) to recreate One Year live on stage in its entirety for the first time, with exclusive shows at Los Angeles’ Regent Theater (November 2) and New York City’s Gramercy Theatre (November 8).

TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA RETURNS TO THE ROAD

Multi-platinum, progressive rock group Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will be bringing its highly-anticipated Winter Tour back for 2021 for their first ever performances at the brand new UBS Arena at Belmont Park. This year’s long-awaited tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of the group’s landmark album Christmas Eve and Other Stories, the 3x certified platinum album that launched the group to superstardom and spawned the bring-the-whole-family rock holiday tradition that has now played to more than 17 million fans all across the nation. UBS Arena at Belmont Park, located on the border of Queens and Nassau County, will host two shows on Saturday, December 18 at 3pm and 8pm.

COLDPLAY’S “AMSTERDAM SESSIONS”

Coldplay’s ‘Amsterdam Sessions’, a rarely seen and intimate 2000 performance in support of the band’s breakout critically acclaimed album Parachutes, is now available to stream for the first time ever exclusively on The Coda Collection. Taped in summer 2000 on the eve of the record’s release, the performance captures a pivotal moment in the band’s early career just prior to their meteoric ascent to global stardom. The session marked one of the first times the band had showcased their music outside of the U.K., delivering renditions of standout hits such as “Trouble,” “Don’t Panic,” and “Shiver” as well as “Yellow,” which was released as a single on the exact same day of the session’s recording.

ALLMAN FAMILY REVIVAL 18-CITY TOUR

Devon Allman announced the fifth annual Allman Family Revival, a celebration of the life, spirit, and music of Gregg Allman, hosted by his son, Blues Music Award-winning Devon Allman and anchored by his group, The Allman Betts Band. On what would have been Gregg Allman’s 70th birthday (December 8, 2017), Devon decided to gather his talented friends to pay homage musically. Musicians that had toured with Gregg, jammed with Gregg & inspired by Gregg turned up to throw down. Legends like Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, wunderkind Marcus King, and the Orbison’s, all took part in the inaugural performance, laying the groundwork for The Allman Family Revival to be an annual who’s who of musical talent. Now…It’s a yearly tradition, and it’s grown from an annual celebration in San Fransisco to a full fledged coast to coast tour. Based on the format of “The Last Waltz” concert with The Allman Betts Band as the house band and featuring up to a dozen marquee names in music, it’s an epic 3 hour show unlike any other. This year the touring lineup will include The Allman Betts Band, Robert Randolph, Donavon Frankenreiter, Lilly Hiatt, Cody and Luther Dickinson, Eric Gales, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Jimmy Hall, Lamar Williams Jr. plus many more to be announced. The Allman Family Revival will also feature Kenny Wayne Shepherd, G. Love, Samantha Fish, Alex Orbison, and Kenny Aronoff in select markets.
